Favourite Video Game Evar!

Postby Ganonfro » Sat Dec 23, 2006 12:57 pm

Since I'm bored, and interested in getting new games soon, I'd like to hear everyones opinion on what their favourite video game is and why.

This being a gaming forum, there's been a distinct lack of video game talking, and I'm here to stop it, damnit! So talk! :D

* Silent Hill

Can't decide. I'll go into further detail later; I'm at work right now. :D!

Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Advent Rising (yes, despite its glitches), and Psychonauts are at the top of my list. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. I once had Azure Dreams. Game kept crashing when I tried to load it, though. Am I missing a good game? (y/n)

Lesse. I have several favorite video games! In no paticular order:

Popful Mail (Sega CD)
Lunar Eternal Blue (Sega CD)
Disgaea (PS2) <p><div style="text-align:center"><hr />Image

Not sure if it's my utmost favorite, but Shadow of Destiny (PS2) would definitely be up there. Or Shadow of Memories, whichever name you want to use for it. <p><hr />

I'll take any game from the Monster Rancher series. Also, Disgaea and Disgaea 2. And we can't forget about Darkstalkers. There's also Dungeon Siege which, as far as mechanics are concerned, I consider the Perfect RPG.

Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 1 and 2, a load of FPS games (Far Cry topping them), and the Soul Calibur series in general.

Azure Dreams was not a game I expected anyone to bring up. I had the gameboy color version of it. It was a cross between Harvest Moon, in that you practically help rebuild a town and could impress several ladies in the process, and Pokemon with the random dungeon of the Lufia series. Crazy fun game though.

Ocarina of Time was initially fun, but then bogged me down. I dunno, I didn't like it all that much. <p><hr />

Curtis: Oh, my pupil, so tenacious of life, guess I have to kill you again.
Dan: Shut up, before you run out of breath!
Curtis: I got rid of those smiles, there's no one left to disturb our game. Just you, and me.
Dan: Sounds fair, 'cuz I hate holding back, even for an old fart like yourself.

Being the Zelda fan that I am, I'd have to agree that while OoT is a great game, it lacked depth. For the size of the game, Link's Awakening was better in my opinion. Majora's Mask was insane (mostly the good way) to play, and countless frustration at times.

The best thing about OoT is that I actually want to learn to play the Ocarina, since it's similar to a flute in fingering and play style from what I gathered.

My favourite games consist of Soul Calibur, FF4, Pokemon Red since I played it till the timer stopped at 255 hours and still kept playing... And good old Resident Evil 4. Good things come at 4, I guess.

BA: My PSX. I would load it to a certain point then it'll just freeze and get all wonky. Believe me, if it was just a rom, I would've just looked for another download. =/

Idran: I personally couldn't stand Majora's Mask. Time limits stress me out like something fierce. <p><div style="text-align:center"><hr />Image

I think the major aspects of the game which make it such a time-hole for me are the: dungeon crawling, cuteness, completionism. On the last one, it's very possible to be completionist ('catch them all,' unlock every dungeon, etc.) in the game, without the aid of another player/game system/cartridge/etc. I likes this, I do.

I'm not sure it's particularly difficult--I unintentionally power-leveled through the plot without realizing it, one-shotting bosses. I didn't find out what the issue was until post-credits in some of the auto-unlocked extra dungeons. It's not too hard, really, to get back up to power-leveled status if you take the extra dungeons in the right order. Though, once you max out on level, there's a couple tasks which are still difficult, and a few dungeons which reset your level (temporarily), which definitely make things...interesting.

There's an unholy number of items and skills, which is something in games I always have fun discovering as games go on. I'm still finding new things now, in the later dungeons (there's only two I haven't explored all the way through yet) and as I max out various pokemon. Note: last Pokemon game played, Blue on GB. The skills are the same as with other games (if sometimes necessarily different in function), so there might be only few surprises to the fan/atic there.

Non-plot rescue missions are actually kind of dull, don't have much in variety. I've this impression that rescues can be done between players over the wifi? I'd like to check into that, cuz that sounds neat. One of the few cooler things about the missions is that they have codes to them--write down the code and you can share it with someone. Likewise, you can get someone else's code and enter it into your game prior to loading your save--you'll have that mission available to you. Also, of course, someone/s has/have figured out the pattern to these codes and posted up a list of a number of possible codes on the internets, which is convenient for when you need stuff (if a bit twinky).

A lot of items and skills seem pretty superfluous, but I think this may be due to my play style (power-level, offensive brute force). I've found myself using more varied items/skills in the dungeon which sets your level to one, takes your items and money, and makes it so you have to go it alone.

Plot is simplistic and there's a very few translations which come out awkward. It's actually kind of reminiscient of old SNES, only much clearer on what's being communicated. Only one save spot, and saving at a save point (your base) or a quick save (anywhere) is necessary--no autosave.

I think that about covers it. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">dictionary.com | encyclopædia dramatica

It's a three way tie between Psychonauts, Earthbound, and Ouendan, I guess.

Earthbound WAS pretty damn good. Now as I think on it, it shares the same rank as Shadow Hearts: Covenant on my books. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. I think WoW has finally got to the point where it can claim this title from me...

I've been playing Beyond Good and Evil lately... it was released in 2003 for the computer, but came over to the PS2. Has anyone else played this? Fun stuff... a little fighting, a little stealth, a little vehicle combat. The only problem is that it's short, only ten hours.

Loved that game to bits, and got it at the same time as I got the first new Prince of Persia game. The fact that it got equal playtime says something about it. Sad that it didn't get much attention, really :[

One of my favorite moments while playing a game happened in that game. You know, on the roof, and ya being ___ by the ____, and the camera angle spins and ____, and I totally wasn't expecting it to be as cool as it was and for some reason I just got a huge buzz from it all. A really good fun game that was short enough to never get repetatively dull ... but still wish was a little longer.

As for my Favorite game ever!?!?!?!
I have no clue. I played over 256 C64 when a lad and own such a vast collection I find it really hard how anyone can pick just one. Creatures 1 and 2 deserve a mention because Clive Radcliff Exterminates All The Unfriendly Replusive Earth Ridden Slime

I always enjoyed long running series like, Dizzy,Mega Man, Ys, Castlevania, Super Mario. Talking of Mario, Mario 64 will always hold a special place in my memories. When I first moved Mario and made him jump about and turn and spin and everything you could do... I spent a good half an hour on the beginning bit before any actual level just having fun on it. It was mostly just because of the jump from 2D to 3D but nothing has ever really gotten such a sublime gaming moment as that for me before. Heaven in gaming moment if there ever was one.

However I wouldn't call it my favorite game ever.

Oh Donkey Kong 94 on the gameboy - A game I played until its memory pak ran out so it can no longer save - is another awsome nintendo Mario game with lots of fun to be had. Or was at the time.

My most played game ever is actually Grandia 2. I've completed it over 6 times now I think, which is a lot for me espically for a RPG, and I have to stay away from it because almost every time I pick it up I end up playing it to completetion again.

"Lollipop lane kid. Lollipop lane."

The biggest crime is I have Grandia 3 waiting to be played but I'm not allowing myself to touch it until Tales of the Abyss is finished. Something I thought I had nearly done until another plot twist happened. Damn awsome Tales game with there surprise none endings all the time.

Oh and the Wild ARMS series has always had a special place in my heart as well. Wild ARMS and Wild ARMS 3 particularly. I'm hopefully finally getting my hands on Wild Arms alter code F and looking forward to Wild Arms 5 as well, if it ever gets translated.

Oh And I adore the Devial May Cry series as well! Demon slaying kick ass sword swinging, three headed nunchucks, elec guitar with bats and many more fun things to be had, even though you mostly always only use Ebony and Ivory with a sword.

... And a ton more other things like old classic games you get in these retro paks like bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island and thousands more...

How can yo choose!? HOW!?!?!

Ah, that bit nearish the end? :D

And Grandia 2 is a kingly game, yes. Better than Grandia 3, too. At least plot wise. G3's combat does kick all sorts of ass, though.

I've been into Kingdom Hearts lately, but only because my girlfriend has both of the games and I finally have a membory card for my PS2. = D

As for other good games, you should look into Alien Hominid. It's really easy and repititious, but at the same time, for some odd reason, controlling a small tiny deranged alien and going on a rampaging killing spree with all kinds of strange aliens is quite appealing to me.

Touch Detective for the Nintendo DS, a rather fun Monkey Island type of game where you solve mysteries and the like.

Monkey Island also being a key great game of awsome, as is Sam and Max Freelance Police.

Nope.
I have not. Seen the entire television series though but have yet to get the new games. Not sure if I dig the 3D graphics for one but I was thinking on it. Most likely wait a bit then buy the Season package instead of it seperately.
