Expectations raised and dashed?

Unread postby Endesu » Wed Jan 11, 2006 4:20 pm

Let us say there is a movie coming out that you had been looking forward to for ages. The director is a good one, the previews looked promising, and the critics praised it as a masterpiece. You went to the theater (or downloaded it with the help of P2P) with your hopes up.

Let us say, then, that you were completely disappointed. You failed to see why so many praises were being laden upon this piece of crap. You went home (or turned off Media Player) disappointed, and defiled.

Has that ever happened to you? Have you come across a movie, a game, a television show, or an album which you had anticipated but were ultimately disappointed by?

Let's talk about it. <p><hr />

Repeatedly. The occasions are too numerous to lay out on the table. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Sounds to me like someone came back from watching Aeon Flux.

And yeah, this happens all the time. That's life. You see something, you hope it's good. You believe in your hope. Then you come to terms with reality. Wash, rinse, repeat. <p>Image</p>

snk vs capcom: chaos, which is stupid, because, i should had expected a half assed attepmt from old, tired snk, who has been using the same iori sprite for about 10 years. <p><div style="text-align:center"> <span style="color:fuchsia;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:large;">LAMBO SWIMS LIKE A BRICK!!</span>

Capcom's no better. They haven't really updated the Morrigan sprite for god knows how long either, so...yeah. <p>"DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DEFEAT US? OUR TREASURE MAY BE HEAVY, BUT WE ARE LIGHT AS WIND. ONLY MAGICS MAY HURT US, BUT ONLY WE KNOW WHICH ONES." --Omoikane, Digital Devil Saga 2</p>

that maybe true (i believe Morrigan's sprite is as old as iori's), but, dang, just look at capcom's two takes on the SNK vs capcom games, and you can see the difference. <p><div style="text-align:center"> <span style="color:fuchsia;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:large;">LAMBO SWIMS LIKE A BRICK!!</span>

Iori looks like he fits in with the CvS2 crew, though. Morrigan looks like they used a SNES sprite in the same game. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. No, because I don't read mags/keep up on entertainment or media news/pay any attention to reviews, critics, or hype.

The closest thing I can think of would be FFX, which I bought with my PS2. I wasn't expecting it to be awesome, but I was hoping it would be better than it turned out to be. Considering that I never finished it, I suppose it was a minor disappointment, but hardly a crushing one. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">Image</div>

thats because Capcom did their versions of every SNK fighter, so if you pick CVS2 iori, he will look 100 time better than morrigan (since capcom just reused sprites for their characters), same goes for SVC:C, SNK did new capcom character sprites (in their style) but reused their characters.

so, if you pick an SNK Iori and a Capcom Morrigan, both of them will look like SNES sprites. <p><div style="text-align:center"> <span style="color:fuchsia;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:large;">LAMBO SWIMS LIKE A BRICK!!</span>
