I've played a disturbing number of the FE games- I consistantly like them because they're actually reasonably challenging. You have to be careful but not overcautious- bad things happen if you're too slow in most scenarioes.
[---------------------------]

Zem: Yes, Marth and Roy are from two of the currently 9 Fire Emblem games. If you like strategy RPG's, PLAY THEM.

Thus far I've only played the ones available on the GBA but have found them to be overall a good buy if'n one likes a turn based strategy type RPG. Replay value might not be the highest, especially if you've gone so far a sto max out your characters but that's probably besides the point.

Okay. I hereby give my full review of Fire Emblem! At least, the gameboy ones that I've played.

Characters? Fucking A+, even if you have to work your ass off to get the conversations between them.

Storylines? An A, if not an A+. Hard to find fault with them.

Battles? Well...

The battles are fast-paced, and the animations of them are totally f'in sweet. However, the sheer fact of the matter is, they can sometimes be really annoying. If someone dies, they die for good. No second chances, no reviving, nothing. This means that they set hordes of lower-levelled pansies after you, that -may- get a lucky shot on your characters and kill them. You generally restart the chapter after that.

So, storyline, art, and characters get an A to an A+. Battles themselves? Anywhere from a B to an F. Sorry, FE. :{

You have to minimize the chances that your enemies are going to get those shots.

Though in most of the other FE games I've played, there's a way to get around the pansies, such as in FE4.

There are two skills called "Wrath" and "Ambush." "Wrath" has you auto-critical if you're under 1/2 health (which also adds up to auto-hitting- if you crit, you can't miss), and "Ambush" has you go first in every battle regardless of who's attacking whom if you're under 1/2 health. Send out one of the characters with the combo and they melt an entire enemy force because the moment they get hit the first time, they suddenly automatically do triple damage to anything that comes near them. The only characters who can end up with this are both reasonably powerful and reasonably fast mages, so you periodically do extra extra damage.

Also note that most enemies don't have a good luck stat, so critting you is only something they can do if you screw up by, say, letting the guy with the Killer weapon attack or exposing a unit vulnerable to a particular weapon TO that weapon, such as Hammer or Armorslayer.

Anyway- the fights aren't hard so long as you're both careful and expedient with your movements and the game becomes really absurdly easy if you only use the same set of characters repeatedly, thus keeping all of the experience in the same pool.
[---------------------------]
