This is Trevor's mom, the writer and frequent con-goer -- why don't y'all enter some of your art in convention shows? An easy one to get to is ConGlomeration in Louisville (August) and I know the art person; but an even better one is MarCon in Columbus during May.

Very impressive art -- by entering in art shows you can get some exposure, hang out with pros, sometimes even pick up contracts if the right people see your work. And you can sell it too.

The college convention I've been going to for the past four years, Genericon, would likely also welcome such art submissions. They have an auction as well.

Granted, the next one isn't until January, but... <p>

Out of curiosity, was this art from the site, or on DA--or both?

I remember the last art show/auction I looked at, at 2005's AWA. Most of the artists were well beyond my skill, at least in part if not whole, but that didn't stop a lot of "unprofessional" pieces from being up for auction. It was kind of neat to see that one didn't have to be perfect/appear to be perfect in order to enter that sort of thing.

Still, my 2D art I save mostly for recreational purposes. I do it for friends, myself, and for fun, and I'm kind of loathe to give the physical away. Part of the reason why I don't mind when my art doesn't come out with particularly high or persistent quality is that it's not all that serious an endeavour for me to begin with. I think I'd have to start on a piece with the express -intent- of selling it, if I were going to do so--in order for it to be in a form and quality to be able to be sold, and for me to be able to let go of it.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind trying to sell some of my better (or worse) pieces of jewelery at cons. Hell, at AWA someone random woman wanted to buy a corn dangly that I was making to go on my glasses. If art tables weren't so expensive, I'd like to see what I could do at one... <p>

Part of the reason I haven't is because to sell things at a con, you need a vendoring licence or somesuch, (at least in the Baltimore area you do.) One of these costs, like, a kabajillion dollars. If I do not know that I'll make that back, then I won't spend it to attempt to make money. Not a risk taker is this Rube.

The other issue for me is that I have no website or buissess venture or other thing named "Kawaiistarmangaartfirestudios.com" to help hawk my money making plans. I was pretty sure a fruitly named webside was required for these things.

I intend to try and do that sometime soon. :\ But reduced hours at work limit my money for attending cons out of state, so I gotta wait for some to roll about in Texas.

Also a general lack of confidence yet enough in work. :\
