Kris whatever his last name is, a study on head shape

Unread postby pd Rydia » Sun Apr 25, 2004 8:58 pm

My Aerin and Virgil pics both made me realize I was having problems with head shapes, so Cho handily linked me to a tutorial and I decided to give what was in there a go with a new picture. And here it is! Shini's super wai kitty boy Kris De Fah or Vazaa or whatever his last name is, I'm not quite sure.

As a super special bonus, you can see it in sketch form, complete with doodles and notes!

As a story: originally I drew his neck fading into nothingness, and had an arrow pointing to where his torso should be saying "clothes go here." I later added both torso and shirt and erased the "go here" part.

oooooooooooh shading is loverly. I think my favorite bit. Head still seems somewhat big, perhaps it's the lack of lines that makes it odd? *shakes head* I'm not entirely sure. But one of your better ones yet for sure it is.

Image

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The good: Shading and hair are pretty nice.

The Bad: His neck is too long, as is the top of his head. It looks like you spliced perspectives on the latter; he has the top o' the head of someone looking downward, but the rest of the head looks forward.

Karin wuvs and approves of her kittyboi indeed, and I go HUZZAH on that shading! And the eyes! Quite spiff, and criticisms were pointed out.

Holy crap, that's neato.

The eyes are incredibly good, and it's got a very protraity looking quality to it, I'd probably have linked said picture in the RP I did in the Akina mansion just before it collapsed. I suppose what I'm trying to say is- Hot damn, Dia's getting good. o_o

Also: Vaza, or Akina. He'll go by both, but he prefers Vaza :(

Lessee if I can actually explain this!

One thing about eyes and their subsequent relations with heads is their placement. Them fuckers don't sit on the surface like good facial features, they sit receded a bit in the face. Now, see how you have that little spot on the left side of the picture where there's the little "v" shape on the edge of the face? Given how eyes recede, that's where the corner of the eye would be. The lower part of the "v" is the cheek bone, the upper part of the "v" is the eyebrow. The thing to be careful about after that is making sure the upper part of the head isn't too big.

And stuff! That's a lot of text for one measly suggestion.

I won't make commentary on how it is compared to a normal standard, but...DAMN. You've taken a few massive forward steps before, Dia, but this is yet another one. One of your best pieces yet, in my opinion. In general, this is a new level from your past pieces, and I hope to see it go up further.
ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^
Arch mage144: This means nothing to me. =P
T3chn0Namagomi: *motherly voice* Brian! What would Kate think if she heard you say that?!

---Dirtiness in a chat. Blame my mind for being in the gutter.

-Namagomi, who lives up to his name in this case.
