RPGWW MUSH - Location of Devil (Details) (Oh, hey, edits)

Unread postby Banjooie » Sat Dec 24, 2005 5:51 am

Alright, since I'm going to be coding this sucker, I'm going to need/want a few things.

(this is in vague order of importance from most to least)

1: ASCII Logo:

Optional, but /superkeen/. Cannot have color in it. Preferably no wider than 72 characters, in a monospace font, as many lines as you like but people will see this EVERY TIME THEY CONNECT so don't be dumb.

2: Final details on Login System

I would prefer to do this one of two ways.

A: Each char has its own login (Easy, but gets cumbersome since you people have a billion characters)

B: One main login account, and @emit characters. (Easy, but then you have to associate the account with the characters mentally, and it's egh.)

I assume we're leaning towards #2.

3: Actual Admin-Type Folks EzCode Parsing Error:]DONE, kinda[

No, I suspect most of you don't know MUSHCode from a hole in the ground.

THIS IS NOT A GIGANTIC DEAL. There's a handy little flag called Royalty which is basically the IRC equivalent of ops. I can give you fancy little commands to do what you need to do. I just want to know how many people I'm setting this up with initially, we can toss about numbers later.

EDIT OF CRAZY:
Okay, I've got Dia, AM, DM, Gus, Adam, Kate, Idran, Shinigori, and Jak Snide their accounts. For, y'know, security reasons, I'm not wizbitting anyone until we're ready to open, and they can log in and change their passwords to something a lot more secure than I've got.

4: Construction of Grid EzCode Parsing Error:]PANIC! PANIC![

My general idea looks kinda like this.

From the OOC nexus, we have Country Rooms. Country Rooms are connected in a geographical manner, and also have separate exits leading to areas within the country.

Doma would lead to North Doma, South Doma, East Doma, West Doma, Doma City, and the surrounding countries. Maybe less, depending on how much we actually need.

Thus, we can infinitely categorize downward, and prevent people having to spend forever searching the grid to figure out where they want to go.

Anyone else have a better idea?

ANOTHER EDIT OF CRAZY

There are a lot of countries in Igala. How many should I do, and are there any particular rooms that aren't countries but need their own area? (some kind of mountain for instance)

Also, I'm not doing the descs.

5: Combat System

I suspect you crazy folks want some sort of system (no joke this time). I can do something outside of Philsys if you want--the main issue with Philsys, amusingly, is simply coding in your attacks. Maybe something like the d6 chat system? (and of course Diasys)

6: News Files EzCode Parsing Error:]SEMI-SUCCESSFULLY DELEGATED[

Ahahaha, these are SO being delegated. These are the things folks want to read upon connecting to your MUSH, to get the general gist of things. Commands, theme, history, etc. I can do commands and the like, but there is no way in hell I'm doing the theme and history files. You won't like what happens.

7: Neat Shiny Things EzCode Parsing Error:]Semi-decided![

This is not high on the list, but I want to know what you people want to be able to do with the MUSH. Brian, I'm talking about things from +fuzzle to +finger, here. I can code this, just tell me what sort of things you want. In fact, I can even pull up a dictionary-definition bot. All sorts of craziness. Also: Mudnet.

8: How we're going to handle adding things to the grid

Yes, this is out of order, bite me. What will a town or building require before it is formally added to the grid? (I suspect most towns will simply be objects, otherwise, to be discarded when need be) For instance, the Jade Dragon would be dug and linked, whereas the Pink Flaming
Flamingo you just invented would be an object.

9: Factions EzCode Parsing Error:]Not being done![

If we want to produce coding for Really Large Faction(TM) IE so that perhaps there are faction-controlled rooms, locked +bboards this is doable. I'm talking Doma Guard, Riva Dragoons, etc.

10: Oh, yeah, +bboard EzCode Parsing Error:]Not being done![

Should I bother installing this? It only takes a minute, but we already have a forum and all.

More as I think of it, or something.

Edit: On the other hand, will we have a forum for MUSH issues?

1. I can't do these, so someone else can look into it.

2. B, because there's simply no easy way to accomodate the enormous number of characters any given RPGWWer has. Seriously. The other option is to give logged-in patrons free access to the @name command, but only targeting themselves, if that's possible. I don't even like that, though, as it's too readily abusable.

3. All of the forum admins (myself, Dia, DM, Gus, theoretically Adam) plus all of the RP moderators. Not all of those people are going to be MUSHing or are active or whatever, but that's the base list. If it somehow proves insufficient we can have other people.

4. Grid setup sounds good to me. Object rooms can be placed within the categories as needed by players without intervention from anyone else if they know how, so that's good enough.

5. A simple or relatively simple random event resolution system is perfectly fine. Since the purpose of such is just to resolve events quickly, there's no need for it to be complex. Players wishing to use more complex systems can opt to do so. Is it possible to have a die-roller script (+dice xdy or something) that will roll x dice with y sides? I imagine it should be.

6. Someone else who cares can do this, so it won't have to be you.

7. +finger profiles are going to be a huge part of the MUSH on account of the fact that an individual +finger per character is going to replace having multiple logins to some extent; any character in a scene can be rapidly learned about with a quick +finger to display their bio. We can worry about amusing bells and whistles (+frypan! :D) later.

8. I think that most towns, inns, etc. should simply be enterable objects within the appropriate room. Even common RP spots such as the JD don't need to be rooms, just enter_OK objects within Doma Capital. This way a simple "look Jade Dragon" before entering will tell you if it's been burned down or something. =P

9. We don't need factions, this isn't Videoland, factions aren't part of our RP style, etc. Unless for some reason it becomes an issue where the Legion of Pink Fluffy Doom Bunnies have control of 3/4 of Riva and no one knows about it...um, yeah, news posts/the forum should handle that.

10. Something tells me we don't need it. <p>

If you can do better, I totally invite you to do so. I don't think this is a "first come first serve" thing. <p>

I love making ASCII images, that's why I basically screamed that. Sorry :D

FWAH.

I've done a star background thing before and it went very well. This came out decent, I think.

Any suggestions are quite accepted. I was considering making a big sword, too, but decided against it.

(EDIT: Actually, this didn't come out too bad, either.)

Um, also. I respectfully request that I be given at least some power here, if only over Elemaer stuff. I mean, do any of you admins really want me bugging you about tweaking the rooms for my setting? <p>-_-___-___-___-_-

Ordinarily I'd just ignore this post, but after working 8 hours from 8-4 on Christmas Eve, I'm more inclined to tell you where you can stick Elemaer.

In all seriousness, WTFever.

Edit: The proles can decide which ASCII logo they like better. I am personally in favor of the first one unless everyone here has recently changed class to Fighter. <p>

Of note: I tried to make corn at Rennar's suggestion, but it came out abysmally.

Yeah, this is what I get for not looking at the OOCforum for a while. Bleh!

I'm with Brian on Spleen-logo #1 since #2 reminds me of MUDs and we ain't one of those. As for MUSHcoding, I know a LITTLE but nowhere near enough to build a system and stuff.

Newsfiles:

I think I can handle most of these. I'll probably start asking questions on what exactly the content will be, but I already have a few things in mind. <p>--------------------

Now that I'm back from Oregon and ready to rock, I will be glad to help out and write descriptions for locations or objects or whatever else needs to be done in that vein.

Okay, here's the situation as it stands.

Igala wise, I currently have:
1x Continent Room
Valth
Baron
Nekonia
Riva
Doma

I have nothing in these rooms, no descs, no nothing.

Spleen, because he handed me stuff, gets to have a few Elemaer rooms. I'm not handing him a wizbit.

I've installed the SGP, and it comes with a boatload of functions, still yet to find a good dieroller (I am meh on doing this myself). <p><Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"
