Caina walked along, calmly taking in the sights. After all, its not like she would ever be able to take in what the sights look like right now ever again.

A slight hue tinged Charon's cheeks at the mentioning of flying. Looking to the ground she replys "Four days is by walking, how long by flight?" Standing uneasily, fidigeting with a few small stones with her feet. She looks up, a touch embarrased and shrugs her shoulders not knowing wether or not to say more.

"It's only four days. You'll hardly even notice it!" Caina says cheerily, as she walks along. Ephemerals always find the silliest things to complain about.

"I only asked becasue I thought I could do a little lifting of my own..." Charon meekly replies. "If we get to the island quickly we can set things stright quickly also... but if a hike is what everyone wants I'm up for that too." And she takes up a steady, pace trying to get a little to the side and ahead of the group.

(OOC: I will be back at the end of next week. I'm leaving tomorrow...)

"We can walk. Flying would only cut the travel time by a day or two. It will be a sixty five kern walk, so we can probably make it within five days." Raishilliah told the group as they walked along. "Unless anyone has any objections..."

The party continued their trek through the town, passing the water station where a few phoenixi were talking, a large black house, and pausing at the market. It was a dusty, crowded mass of shops and creatures barganing and carrying packages.
Liah paused for a moment and told the group, "We need to stop and get some food for our journey here. Going at least ten days without food would be bad."
With that, she turned around and began to bargain with the shopkeeper closest to her; a tall elf that was selling some sort of meat.

For Caina, this wouldn't be much of a problem. Her people didn't require that much in the way of food. Most of the dining was part of social custom, rather than actual need.

Still, one has to keep up appearances. Thus, she wandered off from the group, seeking a vendor dealing in nuts, properly fresh fruit, or berries. She nursed a hope in her heart that someone there might actually deal in such from the mortal realms, but she wasn't sure if trade between the two worlds had advanced that far. Still, a couple of Selyndirth Toadstools would be nice. Or whatever mortals were calling them these days.

Siz's tail gave a wide swish, as Sizreina herself looked around the market with wide eyes. She wanted to see what kind of shops were here, keeping an eye out for someplace to stock up on dried foods, and perhaps anyone peddling shiny things.

Charon looked about and finding a herb stand bought a few items used for both cooking and other bits of magic she knows. "Just in case... I don't have that great of a feeling about this." se said to herself and placed them in her bag and wondered on milling about, just observing the people around not trying to be notced.

Myrii Looked around town as the group moved on. He saw a few races he was not familiar with, cocking his head at them.

(Sorry about my absence. I had to stay three days later than expected.)
Raishilliah had finished her purchases at the meat store and moved onto a shop sellling what she usually ate. It was a small store compared to the rest. There was not as much demand for things like mehri. Liah looked around to see how the rest were doing with finding what they needed.

In front of Caina was indeed a shop selling fruits and nuts. Indeed, some of them were native to the Plane, but some were more ordinary to her, and thus more unusual to anyone who lived on the Plane. The only others there were two phoenixes that were buying firebrul and kail. One turned around and asked, "Are you going to buy something too?"

One of the many phoenixen shopkeepers noticed Sizreina looking around the shops and asked, "Do you need help finding anything, miss?"

(Anyway, some explanations are needed as to names. Mehri is a chow mein like root, kail is a small golden colored apple, and phoenixen is... well, the phoenix equivelant of elven.)

"Why yes I would," Caina answers with a smile. "I'll have a double handful of those walnuts, there. A triple handful of those blackberries, please. And two dozen of those mushrooms; don't worry about the poison. What will that total to?"

Caina never could understand the attachment that ephemerals had to money, but it was good enough to get her what she needed without undue dishonor.

Raishilliah smiled as she noticed almost everyone finding what they needed. Caina had found one of the few places that sold Gaeran fruits and vegetables, Charon had already finished her purchases, and Sizreina, as Liah had expected, was bouncing about and generally looking at everything. Myrii and Talon, by contrast were either looking around or just standing there. Liah turned to the shopkeeper and said, "I will have some of the mehri, a handful of firebrul, and perhaps a dozen of those black fruits. What are they called again... oh, that is right. I will have a dozen of the rejin fruits. How much does that come to?"
"Three kruts."
After giving three silver coins to the shopkeeper, she asked Myrii and Talon, "Are you going to buy something or just look around?"

The shopkeeper that was helping Caina put the food in a small bag and said, "Well, it would come to four kruts or twelve gil... unless you use a different money system?"

"Well, I have some Leylethwen kroner, if you'll accept them," Caina answers smoothly, placing a score or so of silver coins on the counter. Silver was better than gold any day, it looks more like moonlight.

Charon walked to the edge of the stalls and leaned against the side of the last booth watching two children play as their mothers walked about somewhere buying what was needed for the week.

It brought a well needed smile to her face and after a minute or two she walked over to Liah and asked "Do you think this is going to work ... for the children at least ... they don't need to see any bloodshed ... and well...umm..." and she trailed off embarrassed by her questioning and the fact that she was showing herself as somewhat paranoid.

Raishilliah nodded to Talon and Myrii and then looked over at Charon, who seemed to be waiting for an answer rather uncomfortably.
"Charon, they should not have to. That is why we are here. To prevent it from happening... We have not had a war on the Plane in a thousand years. I would like to keep it that way."

Caina's shopkeeper called over to the neighboring stand, "Hey Gerai! Do we take kroner here?" After getting an okay, he turned back to Caina and said, "It should be about... um, two kroner."

(But meow, where's Dia? Will Siz wander the marketplace for eternity?)

"Thank you," Caina says, giving the coins to the shopkeep, then making her way onwards. That they only wanted two kroner didn't surprise her in the least. Silver is the superior metal, despite whatever Ephemeral economics may claim. It was nice to know that the people here were aware of it.

Content, she makes her way back toward Raishilliah. "I'm ready to be on our way," she says.

"Yes!" Siz chirped, whirling on the shopkeep. "Do you have any spare time for sale? No? Any purple ferrets? Well, okay, then. I'm looking for provisions for a trip. Food and such, you know. Oh! And anything particularly shiny."

Sizreina dug around in her pouch and pulled out Doman coinage. "Erm, you take gil, yes? How about this much..." she pulled out two quarren and held them forth, "worth of food."

Spare time for sale! Step right up!

Postby Angel of Fire » Mon Aug 18, 2003 6:35 pm

Raishilliah was glad that Charon had a similar reason for helping out in this trip.
Goodness knows I would have never gone to retrieve some strange artifact from another plane if it was not to prevent war or something about as deplorable...
So far, as she noted, Charon and Caina were done buying supplies for the journey, Siz was talking to a shopkeeper, presumably about to buy something, and Talon and Myrii were wandering around looking at the shops due to lack of money and... perhaps interest with Talon. There was no way to be sure.

The shopkeep smiled at Sizreina and said, "We take gil, don't worry. Food? Well, there are a few shops near here that sell foods from Gaera, but I sell dried fruits and vegetables... and of course dried meats. If you're going on a long journey I would reccomend those."
He also pointed out a shop where small and shiny knicknacks, toys, and small kitchen knives for protecting one's self from small critters were sold. There was a flock of children around the shop, all trying to buy something from the "Shiny Stand" as they called it.
"You might want to try there for shiny things."

Shiny shiny coins :3

Postby Halitosis the Hedgehog » Tue Aug 19, 2003 2:34 am

"If only I had some money..." Myrii thought, as he wandered around through the venders. Then, something caught his eye, gleaming in the light of the sun. He walked over to it, and picked it up. "What luck!" He said to himself, it was a coin. He had no idea how much it was worth, but immediatly brought it over to the nearest vendor selling dry food. "How much can I buy with this?" He said, holding the coin up to the vendor, "Preferably beans, and nuts."

In the meantime, Caina occupied herself by finding a bench to stretch and relax upon. For people with so little time and so much dishonor, Ephemerals were certainly fond of wasting time. Oh well. Maybe Sizreina would find something interesting?

Raishilliah looked at the horizon in worry; it was getting late. She sighed and called to Sizreina and Myrii, "When you are done we need to leave, or we will not make it out of the town until nightfall." Now, Liah was starting to worry. It was not exactly safe in the wilderness areas of the Plane at night. That is, unless the group wanted to wake up slightly burnt.

Myrii's shopkeep nodded and rummaged through a few piles of food. He got a few handfuls each of nuts and white beans.
"Will that be all right? It's about a remaerd's worth, unless you'd like to look at the other selections? We are closing shop soon though... It is getting late."

Siz's shopkeeper got her a dozen fish, a few pounds of meat, assorted dried fruits and quite a few vegetables.
"Will that do? That will be... um... two quarren."
He found a large bag, put Siz's food in it, and then handed it to her.
"You're one of the ones traveling with Raishilliah, right? She needs to leave soon. Heard her calling and all, so you'd best hurry. The Plane isn't exactly safe in the wilderness at night."

(Hali, I am assuming that Myrii is heading toward the group.)
Raishilliah smiled at Siz and commented, "Distracted by shiny things? No reason not to be." She was about to address the group when one of the docters from the hospital came up to her.
"Miss Raishilliah, I need to talk to you for a moment, if I could."

Liah nodded and went over to him. She came back a few minutes later, an annoyed expression on her pale face.
"Listen, there has been a slight change of plan. The doctors think that Anerson's health would come into question if he traveled with us. I hope there are not any problems with that."
She sighed and told them her original message.
"Anyway, darkness is fast approaching, so we need to get as far as we can before night."
She motioned them to follow her as she went back on the road that led out of town.

Charon takes up the pace beside Liah, and looks out into the fading sun. "This should be interesting without the man we are supposed to helping," she states to think air. "Is the night as dangerous as you say? I sure we could travel during the night to lessen the area we need to cover later...but that is just what I am used to..." she says to Liah with a red tinge hinting at her ears.

The journey begins!

Postby Angel of Fire » Mon Aug 25, 2003 3:45 pm

Raishilliah walked along with a peaceful look in her eyes. It was certainly going to be a nice journey, at least until they left the Plane. Noting Charon's question, she said;
"The Plane is not particularily dangerous at dark, with the exception of the occasional fire elemental that finds others in its territory a danger to it. Those are not very common, anyway."

Now the scenery was changing. The onkalyfe trees grew thicker and wild plants sprouted in patches. Occasionally they saw a farm or two, but it was mostly wilderness. Wild salamander babies played among the foliage and there was an occasional rasping noise as they talked amongst themselves. As darkness set in completely the group came apon an open area. There were no salamanders here, only a few sprouting onkalyfes that provided a small light.

"We will camp here," said Raishilliah.

Caina nods, not being in any particular hurry. Its not as though she would have to worry about growing old like some of the ephemerals here. Thus, she chooses a nice soft spot on the ground, not too close to the rest, and makes herself comfortable; enjoying a few of her provisions and watching the night sky.

Siz plopped down in the very place she stood when Liah had announced they were going to camp, pulling around her carrysack and taking out some of the dried fish she had bought earlier. She chewed her precious sustenance, ears swiveling around to appreciate the night sounds and tail tip twitching slightly, an indication of the energy she still had pent up inside of her.

Raishilliah took a few vegetables out of a small cloth bag and chewed on them thoughtfully. She plucked one of her feathers out and cooked a few vegetables with the feather's small flame.
"Does anyone want to keep the first watch? I will do the second one, and maybe the first if I need to."
Liah stood up and found a few branches to light a fire with.

The woods were peaceful and quiet at this time of night. Still, Raishilliah felt somewhat uneasy. There was something about this mission that bothered her...
