As Kaze looked around, he noticed one or two footprints leading into an alley. Clearly, however, he would not be able to keep up persuit if he could be seen coming and out run. He quickly wove a shadow cloak from the mana around himself, pulling his ferret down into his arms to conceal it as well, all while running as fast as he could still manage towards the alley. The thief would not escape him this time...

((Kaze has cast 'Shadow Cloak' on himself, if anyone is wondering...))

IT LIVES... AGAIN!

Postby ChristianC » Mon Feb 10, 2003 6:13 am

Kumenil tries to speed up even more. He tried to conclude which way the criminal would be heading, but it wasn't easy. The flooded area was familiar too him, but the mass of waters could make some roads impassable, and some of the commonly unpassable ways could be open. Which meant...

Trying to focus, the elderly monster hunter continued running after, dodging every few citizen who accidently got in the way. He had to lose some dead weight, but what? His weapon he could certainly not drop, he could perhaps need it... And his armor would take to long to get off, got to scrape that idea.

Stepping around the masses of people, Sayra reaches the guard consoling the crying child.
'Excuse me, But there has been multiple thefts.' She stated still trying to catch her breath from the long sprint after the nameless thug.

Ardiss had long since ceased to run after the thief, having lost track of him, and was now retracing his steps, to see if he couldn't pick up the trail again.

Per his norm, he looked more than a little frustrated as he went about this, having essentially been made a fool of on several occasions.

Ardiss' attempts to retrace lead him toward the edge of the crowd, where he sees a few people gathered around a member of the Argent Guard, and can overhear them quite nicely.

****

"Thefts?" the elite guardsman says, looking at Sayra "What can you tell me?"

****

"I lost my mommy," the little girl says, looking up at Kaili. it's clear that she's frightened, and trying to hold it back. "Everything got bright, and I couldn't see. Then Mommy was gone. So I asked the man in armor to help me, like Daddy said I should."

****

Kaze ducks into the alley, as his shadow cloak takes hold over him. Seeing the footprints leading around the corner, he pursues. The jumble of footprints leads toward one of the flooded sections of town, and he can see an elderly man dashing in that direction.

****

Kumenil watches as the thief leaps into the water and runs toward one of the abandoned buildings.

If the old man recalls correctly, that building has only one entrance. Save for the windows, which would take time to get through. Enough time to close the gap.

Whether or not the old man wanted his help, Kaze was determined to give it. With ragged breaths and weary feet, keeping close to the sides of buildings so that his cloack would be as effective as possible, Kaze continued to strain forward as fast as his feet would take him. His prey was not far from his grasp now...

Kaili smiled gently at the girl. "What does your mommy look like? Perhaps I can help you get back to your mommy." Jet let out another meow at the girl. "Do you have any idea which way your mommy might have gone as well?" Kaili still smiled kindly at the girl, hoping she would accept her aid.

Kumenil smiled for himself as he sped down to the water. If he could trap the thief in the house before he makes it through one of the windows...

Water splashed against the walls as Kumenil rushed through the puddles, ignoring completely how his pants became soaked through. The area was abandoned, which was fine, but Kumenil started to regret sending the young woman away... After all, his own knowledge in magic was quite limited, and the thief himself was using magic...

(OOC - Question, though. The windows, are they spread around the sides of the house, or in one general direction?)

Ardiss sighed. Well, if all he'd done so far was find someone else who couldn't find the damned theif, his chances at finding him again didn't look so great.

He approached Sayra and the guard. If nothing else, he could corroborate her story, and who knows? The guards might catch the guy with the information they had.

~Flash of light, and she was gone? Sounds like a kidnapping....~

Talos bent down next to the little girl as well, trying as best he could to keep a sympathetic face.

"What's your name? And do you know where your daddy is? Maybe he found her already."

Postby Uncle Pervy » Fri Feb 14, 2003 8:40 pm

(The Windows are spaced out generally. But, you won't have to worry about that)

"Sir!" Cries the thief, as he plunges through the water "Sir! I've been discovered!"

As Kumenil enters, and Kaze follows, the water begins to rise upward. The liquid forms into a robed figure, taking on solidity and color.

They both recognize this as a water-based teleport spell.

The man wears a veil, covering his face, save for his brown eyes. A headcloth hides the rest of his features. He glances at both Kumenil and Kaze, then begins to chant.

****

"Do you know who?" the Argent Guardsman asks, looking at Sayra. "Where did this thief go"

****

"He's home sick," the little girl says. "Daddy got too wet, and has the flu. And Mommy's lost now..."

((I'm assuming both Kuminel and Kaze have entered the building by this point...))

Kaze quickly, and with little ceremony, tossed his ferret to one side. It landed on the wet ground and scrambled up onto a window sill, recognizing Kaze's behaviour as indicating that he had made a mistake of some kind, and something dangerous was likely to result. He himself took to one side of the building, hoping to go unnoticed. The building was flooded, and the shadows should be fairly thick near the walls. He stood within them and began working them to his will.

"Shadows of terror, specters of fear," he whispered in his already quiet voice, "darkness that lies in every heart, arise to consume!"

((Kaze casts Dark Pillar, targeting the water spellcaster. Exactly when he gets in the building and casts his spell, as well as whether he is spotted right away or not, is left to the GM))

Kumenil swears as the mysterious man begins his chanting. Pulling his sword from it's sheath, he launches forward, hoping to strike the man before he finishes his spell.

In the corner of his eye, he sees the young fellow who'd been following him begin a chant too...

Kumenil aims at the man's left arm, hoping not to kill, but bring enough inconvinience that the man'll forget about his spell.

Talos then looked over to Kali.

"Miss...perhaps one of us should stay with her, or take her home, while the other looks for her mother. Could you tell us what she looks like, little girl?"

~I hope that I get to look for her...I'd hate to tell her father that his wife is missing.~

"Fluid Wrath!" counters the Water Mage.

The waist-deep water surges upwards around the Monster Hunter and the twin-elemental mage. Kumenil is knocked from his feet by the upwards by the blast, flying up into the air, then landing spread -eagle into the water.

Kaze, however, finds that as he chants, the water surges into his mouth, robbing him of his words. Choking, coughing up water, he falls to his knees, chest deep in the water, as his nameless ferret watches with concern.

Kaze floundered for a second, then got back to his feet, all the while coughing hard, and spitting water from his mouth so as to be able to talk again. Enraged that he was unable to finish his spell, the boy took the first object that came to hand, which was the small statue he had been given earlier by the Argent guard, and flung it towards the water mage. He was no great shot, but it would serve as a distraction of some sort, hopefully one that would last long enough to allow him to finish his next spell. Obviously, Kaze had a one track mind...

"Emptyness that lies between everything, darkness from behind every star... Surge! Swell! Overwhelm with shadow's fury!"

Kaze's ferret, in the mean time, was still watching from it's pertch. Although it was finding the current scene to be a very unfamiliar one, and was becoming fairly nervous...

((Kaze = casting Dark Wave. His ferret = not having a name, becuase it's not in Kaze's nature to think of giving his pet a name. It's just his pet, and he's fine with thinking of it as that. I add this incase anyone is wondering...))

Gark! I bathed last month!

Postby ChristianC » Sat Feb 15, 2003 8:39 pm

OOC
Kumenil remained down-faced in the water for a while (<span style="color:fuchsia;">think a typical Ranma ½ scene</span>) and then flew up, sword still in hand, laughing as a giant plaster appeared on his forehead.

BIC
The warrior rose from the water as quickly as he could and grabbed for his blade, having lost it in his "flight". After digging around fevereshly in the water, he found it, and quickly grabbed it. Around the time he looked up, he saw a small statuette flying towards the water wizard, thrown from the young man. Kumenil smiled wrily and looked around the room, trying to find the location of the thief. He didn't want to lose his prey when he'd ran so far.

Kumenil could see the thief keeps to the corner.

The water mage makes a scything motion with his hand as Kaze casts. The water around the young man suddenly freezes, the flash of agony disrupting his concentration.

"Finished?" the water mage asks, sounding bored, "Or shall you dance with The Cascade a little more, apprentice?"

****

"Alright," the Argent guard says, "Be careful. I'll follow as soon as I can backup."

****

The little kid blinks. "Um," she says, "Mommy has yellow hair. And a green dress. And, um, she's tall. And pretty."

(Kaze is now immobilize and slowly freezing to death. He will have to roll 4 or higher on 1d6 to cast a spell successfully.)

The only response Kaze gave to the water mage was an enraged scream. Well, scream might not be the right word. Roar might be better, but is still not acurate. Perhaps hiss would be the best word to describe it.

Whatever it was, it didn't look like something that would be produced by the thin, fifteen year old boy. However, his vocal cords, so rarely used, did not seem to be able to produce any sound other than a toneless rasp at any volume below low speaking tones.

The young mage also began to beat on the ice with enraged blows. But even with all the anger and cold, his mind was working. If the mage turned his attention to the other... and he... yes, that might work...

This was when the ferret left the window sill. He recognized that sound, having heard it many times before when Kaze was confronted with an experiment he could not get to proceed right, or some other such barrier to his work. The small creature then began to run frantically back along the route they had taken. In this situation it knew only one thing to do: Find the nearest person then try and get them to come to Kaze's aid. As it scampered away from the flooded building, it's sensitive ears picked up on Sayra's charging down the nearby alley and the ferret scotted off in that direction...

((OOC: Note that Kaze has not actually begun doing anything yet. Also, if the GM wants the ferret's finding Sayra to be changed, he can say so and I will change it...))

Kumenil saw as the mage froze the water around the young man. Casting a quick glance at the thief in the corner, to make sure he was still there, he rushed towards the mage, hoping that the man was too focused on the boy to be able to cast a spell quickly enough.

((OOC - Quick question again, how much light is it in this room? Is it slightly dark or slightly light? Considering there are windows, I'm pretty sure what the reply will be, but you know.)

Without further ado, Kaze's ferret sprang up and grabbed onto Sayra's leg. It hung there for a moment, sqeaking insistently, and then sprang off and scampered a short way towards the building Kaze was in, stopped, ran back, jumped on Sayra's leg again, and repeated the whole process. It clearly intended to keep doing this until the woman decided to follow it.

Kaze, in the meantime, was trying to gather his now fairly scattered wits about him. The frustration and cold was making it difficult to think, and he was not sure he could successfully cast a spell now. He wasn't sure he could do anything particularly effective, perriod. But one thought kept running through his mind over and over.

Water conducts electricity. He had seen in experiemnts over and over again. Even if he couldn't get a spell all the way across the room accurately... he could still hit the water...

"F-f-falling f-from h-heaven on t-t-tainted ground-d-d... holy light-t-t to still the heart-t," Kaze began to chant once again, his teeth clattering together all the while, hoping that the water magus would be distracted by the swordsman long enough to let this spell work. Of course, if he did succeed in electrifying the water, that would effect everyone in it, himself and the sword swinger included.

This fact did not particularly bother Kaze at the moment, at least partially because it hadn't occured to him yet. He was far to focused on eliminating the conspiracy of thieves he saw creeping up around him*...

*Note: This conspiracy is almost entirely of Kaze's own creation, and a result of his sever paranioa. If anyone's wondering....

((Edit: The spell Kaze is casting is 'Lightning', BTW...))

Kaze spat into the water at his side, as if to say that nothing associated with the mage was worth his notice, and glared across the intervening distance at the other magus, his right eye crackling with yellow intensity, his left swirling with dark anger...

He took a moment to just do that, letting his temper simmer and his wits regather...

Ardiss, seeing Kumenil being accosted by the water mage, immediately made his way to the building's entrance. He summed up what he saw inside fairly quickly.

First incapacitate the agressor, then assist the victims... The room is soaked, I should be able to risk an attack.

(OOC - Sorry, I haven't posted in a while... -_-, I'm doing this is order since my last post)

Kumenil groaned inwardly as he rose again from the water, this was embarrassing! However, as soon as he caught his eyes on the young mage that had accompanied him, his jaw dropped.

"No Wa~" He yelled as the mage prepared to cast Thunder. Bracing for a electrical shock, Kumenil expected the worse. Luckily enough, the mage had probably realized his mistake.

Suddenly the fireball appears from nowhere and hits the water mage squarely in the arm. His focus on something else, the mage tried to cast another spell, and if so...

Lifting his sword in a ready position, Kumenil launches himself... at the thief. Hoping that the sudden move will be unexpected, he plans to use the young man as a insurance. Besides, who said only bad guys could take hostages?

"Well, third's a charm..." He muttered slightly for himself as he began the risky move.
