(sorry for the wait)

Angel Quickly jumped from behind the bush and let his arrow fly towards one of the approaching unicorns. Since he had an extra feew seconds because of their distance, he timed his shot and let the string go, for the closest unicorn.

(that would be the next unicorn in line for initiative)

Angel's arrow left the string with a *twang*, imbedding itself deeply in the shoulder of one of the three unicorns. The animal staggered, but somehow managed to stagger onward. It made a gouge at Genji with it's horn, but the Nephilim hunter easily managed to avoid the wounded creature's attack.

The next unicorn charged at Angel, rearing and slamming one of it's hoves down on his shoulder. The man was sent realing, rolled once, and regained his feet. The third unicorn went for Genji, taking a swipe at the feline hunter with it's horn as it charged past and angled for Elena. The hunter felt blood running down his arm, but the wound on his shoulder was insignificant, and he could still move well.

The final unicorn managed to regain it's feet and was now headed towards the group as well, although it was moving a bit slower than the others.

[Elena's turn]

Elena here went into a calculating mode. Trying to make it as good as possible, she calculated the distance between Angel on her left side, and Genji on her right. Taking two steps backwards and chanting, she raised her hand in the air and cast the spell...

(Wall of Force in front of her, trying to hit as many of the unicorns, trying not to the others, obviously.)

That was a shock...

Postby JoshuaDurron » Fri Jan 31, 2003 4:38 pm

With no warning, a web of electricity crackled into existence. It grew into a six foot wide, seven foot tall, twenty foot long wall that shot out to either side, catching the unicorn that was charging her, the one near Genji, and the one circling closer to Angel.

The wounded unicorn reared up and kicked at the air, but the shock it recieved was to much. With a final whinny, it collapsed and died. The one enroute to Elena staggered back and out of the wall, winding up on the side opposite the mage. She was safe for now. The unicorn by Angel was only grazed, and it was only mildly hurt. It took a moment to shake it's head and clear it.

The final unicorn charged forward toward Angel and bowled him over, knocking the already stunned man almost all the way into Elena's shock field. He was lucky to stop in time.

It was this moment that Jason arrived on the scene, a bit to the left of the action. He would have to run around the left end of the shock wall to reach the battle field.

[End round 1. Order of Init:

Genji
Jason
Unicorn 3
Unicorn 4
Angel
Unicorn 5
Elena]

Keldorn could hear the sounds of a fight going on. As sorry as he was that he didn't get to throw some of his own weight around, he figured that his slow and bulky form would be no match for agile unicorns. Besides, there hadn't been any terrible sounding screams of pain yet, and someone had to watch their stuff, lest it be stolen by theives or something.

I will EAT THEM ALL, Elena!

Postby Nick Shogun » Sat Feb 01, 2003 3:53 am

Genji grasped his other spear, the only real weapon he had left, gazing down at it with mixed feelings. There were three unicorns remaining, but now which one presented the biggest threat? Genji was not sure-- for once in his life, he was disarrayed. He closed his eyes and thought for a second, and decided that it would be a far greater loss to lose their mage. Genji dropped to his knees, screamed at the top of his lungs, and then threw the spear at the unicorn closest to Elena.

Whether it was due to the movement, the effort taken to scream, or the fact that he had just had his eyes closed, Genji's aim was the smallest bit off. His spear whistled through the air and grazed past the unicorns hind legs, then embedded itself into the ground with nothing more than a small scratch on it's target for the efforts of it's thrower.

Genji was now out of ammunition, but if he wanted to try, he might be able to retrive the first spear he had thrown in time to have some further effect on the battle.

[Jason's turn]

Jason unsheathed his sword. With his sword out he decided it would be best to take out the ones by people so he made his way around the sock wall towards the Unicorn by Elena.

((Jason is moving around the shock field. It will require all of his AP this turn.))

Still dazed from it's near miss by the shock field, the third unicorn looked about and fixed on the nearest target, which was Jason. It reared up and brought it's left hoof down to smash the young man's head. But Jason quickly dodged out of the way.

In the mean time, finding itself cut off from it's first target by a wall of force, and under fire from Genji, the fourth unicorn wheeled and charged at the hunter. It's horn failed to connect, but it managed to bowl the Nephilim over through sheer momentum. He managed to avoid being trampled, however, and escaped with only a few nasty bruises.

[Angel's turn. Angel is currently at close quarters with Unicorn 5, and attempting to move out of range will award the Unicorn a free attack]

Carlae didn't know what to do. She reasoned that the others could take care fo a few monsters, but on the other hand, what if they got hurt? She should be there to heal them. After deliberating, she rose to her feet and hurried towards the sounds of combat.

Angel Dropped his bow, not having tine to place it on his back and unshethed his short sword. He drove the short sword at teh closest unicorn and aimed for the main body of the unicorn to almost insure a hit, of course he was still a little shaken from the earlier blows.

(Angel does a blind thrust to unicorn 5, due to his stunned nature)

Angel succeeded in dealing the unicorn a glancing blow, driving it back a step. But almost as soon as he recovered from his lunge, the unicorn countered. Fortunately for him, the beast was still stunned enough by the new pain that it missed him. It didn't look like the horned horse could take much more of a beating.

[Elena's turn, then Genji's, then Jason's]

Elena wondered what her next move would be. The fighters were in such a way as to make her casting a spell very difficult without blowing someone's head off. Therefore, she decided to go with the safest way of helping them.

Chanting, she concentrated on the flow of time around the Nephilim. Working her magic, she worked on making time around Genji move slower, so that he would have a chance of getting back in the battle...

(Minor Haste on Genji)

Genji growled in irritation at the miss. He was a hunter! What nonsense this was! If his clansmen could see him now, missing a perfect target, allying himself with these small, fragile creatures, they would howl with laughter.

"Genji is not gonna let himself be the laughter of his village," Genji muttered to himself, springting toward the first spear he had thrown, hurrying to attack again.

Jason, his Dikatana in his hands, swung fast and hard upward, the tip cut a blade of grass on the ground and went onward to the unicorns throat. Jason had taken a step forward and now stood at the unicorns middle section.

Keldorn was apparently left alone with the group's belongings. He now had no choice but to stay and keep watch from theives.

Since he didn't see anybody about, he leaned back against his rock and continued his meal.

Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Postby JoshuaDurron » Sun Feb 02, 2003 11:02 am

The sun shone brightly into the clearing, the trees being spares enough to let it's light in. Keldorn found that his eyes had begun to adjust to it's bright light, and he could look about the clearing without squinting or having to blink every two seconds. It was just as he came to this revelation that a shadow fell over the clearing...

Thank god something finally blocked out that horrid....sun, I think it was called. Yeah, that sounds right. Figures, as soon as I start getting used to it, something comes and.....blocks it......out..........................shit.

Keldorn looked to see the biggest lizard ever in his life. It was flying, too, which was also something he had never seen before.

With any luck, it won't see me.....please don't let it see me.....

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Postby JoshuaDurron » Sun Feb 02, 2003 7:59 pm

Just as Keldorn prayed to go unseen, however, something strange happened. He began to feel very light-headed, and a moment later blackness covered him. He collapsed in a heap at the center of the clearing just as the massive Drake completed it's descent into the clearing. When it arose again a few moments later, Keldorn was no longer there...

When Keldorn awoke from his sleep, fraught with dreams of flying high above the mountains, he found himself in a dark cave, similar to many in Exile. He was atop a mound of matted dry grass and old, shed lizards skins. He could see an exit off to his left, and through it came a warm, red glow.

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Keldorn woke up slowly, and looked around, confused as to where he was. After determining that he hadn't dreamed the past few days, he figured he must have been captured while he was out. What was worse, he now assumed himself to be in the lair of that flying lizard he had seen earlier.

He checked near himself. His pack unfortunately hadn't been taken along with him, and thus he had no food. Fortunately, his captor hadn't bothered to remove anything he was wearing. His breastplate, helmet, bracers, and, most importantly, his hammers were still on his person.

Freeing the reddish (the flame striking) one from its straps, he held it in a ready position and slowly headed through the exit.

The first thing Keldorn saw was that he was now in a large cavern with a crack of lava running from one side to the other. The roof was almost twenty feet over his head. The second thing he saw was that he was in what appeared to be a major junction of passageways. At least five of them branched off of the cavern, counting the one he had come in through. And the third thing was...

There were rubies. Lying all over the floor of the central part of the cavern were unmistakeable red gems. Wherever he was, he was close to a natural vein of precious stones.

Keldorn's eyes widened when he entered the room. Never before had he seen so many gems in one place. The armour and weapons he could craft with those....

Looking around for any guards, and finding none, Keldorn bent down and grabbed a handful of the stones, shoving them into his pocket.

We've barely started on this quest, and already I've been paid!

Pausing for a moment, he bent down and picked a couple more up, and slipped them into his boot.

Just in case....

Picking a hallway at random, he headed off down it, hoping for a way out of these caves.

Keldorn hadn't gotten far when he arrived at a dead end. Looking back at the path he had taken, he estimated that he had only come about twenty feet down the corridor. But just then, he heard something move into the large chamber he had just left. Loud hissing was quite evident. He was now faced with a decision. He might be able to break through the stone in front of him and get through the collapsed rock. But that would give him away, and it might be safer to try and sneak out once the... thing in the other cavern had left.

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Keldorn froze, tensing up as he heard the hissing in the other room. Quietly he undid the straps on his other hammer and hefted it up, prepared to throw it should the the need arise.

Preferably, though, whatever it was wouldn't see him and he could go back to exploring this cave....

((OOC: Yes I am, Geoc))

Keldorn's prayers seemed to be answered this time, as the noise in the cavern beyond eventually stopped, and all was still once more. What was interesting was the fact that the sound of the creature moving had not faded, it had simply stopped. But the hissing sound that had been audible before was no longer present. Either the creature could hold it's breath for a long time, or it had actually left...

Is it gone...? Or is it just waiting for me...?

Keeping both his hammers at the ready, Keldorn slowly made his way back towards the room with the rubies. Trying to keep quiet and out of sight, he peered into the room, checking for anything which might try to eat him...

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

What Keldorn saw was rather surprising. Crouched in the entry of the small cave he had first awakened in was the same Drake he had seen earlier. (At least, it appeared to be the same, he was no expert on magical lizards.) It was looking around the cavern quietly, it's nose resting almost right next to the open crack of lava in the center of the room. It was this that had obscured the sound of it's breathing.

As soon as the Drake spotted Keldorn it reared to it's feet. The blacksmith readied his hammers for defense, only to stop in surprise as the lizard seemed to beckon him, and then turned to proceed down another tunnel at a relaxed pace, one that the human would find easy to match. Apparently, it was taking him somewhere...

EKDS5k

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Keldorn, not wanting to enrage the lizard by running off, followed him down the tunnel. As the creature had previously been resting right in front of a vein of lava, he figured his flame striking hammer would be mostly useless, and reattached it to his belt, keeping the other one (which I have just now named the hammer of flight) in his hand.

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

Postby JoshuaDurron » Mon Feb 03, 2003 7:42 pm

After a time, Keldorn noticed that the walls of this corner were getting farther apart. It was also getting warm. Very warm.

A few steps later, the Drake in front of him moved to one side, sliding into an alcove. Beyond it, Keldorn was confronted with an even more intimidating sight. If the Drake he had just seen was big, this lizard was HUGE. Easily forty feet in length, with it's giant bat-like wings folded at it's sides and the expected fires burning from it's jaws, was a true dragon. The descriptions Keldorn had heard (mostly attatched to Mortax) did not do justice to the true power of the lizard's presence.

The Dragon stared at Keldorn for a moment, then it spoke a simple question. "What is your name, human?"

D...d...d.d...dr....dragon.....Dragon?!

Keldorn's hammer fell to the floor with a clang, then a thud as the handle hit, as he stood dumbfounded in the mighty lizard's presence. It took him a minute to regain his composure, and almost by instinct, his hammer returned to his hand.

"Uhh....Keldorn....Keldorn Stevenson...." was all he could say.

The Dragon stared at Keldorn for a moment. And then it's face crinkled in a strange way. It took a moment, but it soon became clear to Keldorn that the Dragon was amused.

"Do you even know who I am, human?"

"Uh....no....Why? Should I? I mean....I've never even seen a dragon before, let alone become acquainted with one....sorry..."

Keldorn was confused and frightened. Any moment the dragon wanted he could just grab him and eat him whole.

Re: Keldorn keeps putting himself in convinient situations

The Dragon sighed, an action that was accompanied by a bust of fire and smoke.

"I suspected as much. Very well then, human, my name is Sulfras. Sulfras, if that means anything to you. I have brought you here to give you a warning.

"The quest you and your comrades are being sent on is no mere delivery run. It will run much deeper, and it's consequences will stretch much farther than you can currently imagine.

"In the past two centuries, humans have proven that they are becoming the most powerful race on this world. They have reduced the once proud race of dragons to a sliver of their former power, and gone so far as to attempt conquer the wild caves below. I do not doubt that humans will survive no matter what the outcome, but the rest of this world...

"I am going to give you a tool, human. A tool that will help you to complete your task. Take it, and leave here. The Drake will show you the way out."

With that, Sulfras lay it's head down on the ground and closed it's eyes, as if weighed down by troubles to great for it's strenth. The Drake, which was now standing almost next to Keldorn, began to carefully turn itself around. If Keldorn had any questions, now was the time to ask them.

Crys with Confusion!

Postby Nick Shogun » Tue Feb 04, 2003 2:33 pm

Genji felt very light and airy. Something had happened to him, and though he was not sure what, it felt like it had been something helpful. Genji took a single step, and when he did, he moved a much farther distance than he would have with a normal step. A spell, perhaps? He looked at Elena, and then suddenly recalled what sort of predicament they were in. Growling, he dahsed toward his spear to retrieve it.

Jason, being a little fresher than the other combatants, was able to strike a powerful blow to his target, cleaving it's head off. Two unicorns now remained, the first still charging after Genji, the second turning to run from Angel while it still could...

Angel, dropping his bow earlier, had no choice but to charge teh unicorn down. Raising his sword to his chest he charged towards it, sword out in front, clutched by both hands. He was determined to make this one hit, otherwise the outcome wouldn't be pretty. In a screem of rage he, heroicly, thrusted his sword towards the oncoming unicorn.
