The hole was circular in shape, about seven feet deep and four feet wide. The edges were rough, with jagged rocks jutting out all the way down. At the bottom was a pile of broken stones that had fallen from the top when the hole was cracked open.

The incubi did not put away their weapons.

"I think we'll be the ones to tunnel into you," said a second incubus with a sneer.

"So the 'gatekeeper' opened this hole up for you, did he?" asked the first incubus, ignoring the remark.

Seryntas also ignored the remark, mostly because he thought of the pun first, damn it. "I don't know about any gatekeeper. Some bigass tentacle thing blasted out of the stone and grabbed one of the girls we were travelling with. Now, I don't want to have to make little bite-sized bits of demon knight out of you guys, but I will if you don't put up your swords right now." Seryntas tried to look as tough as he could...of course, in this case, appearences aren't very deceiving.

(OOC: I've been pretty busy with school starting lately, and that's why I haven't posted yet.)

"That tentacle would be the gatekeeper," said the incubus. "And this girl who you say it grabbed must have been a succubus in the service of someone other than our master. It will extract whatever souls she has managed to steal from our transmitter, and then it will extract her own soul. You, in the meantime, are under arrest and are to come with us."

Now that she has a source of light, Xiao Long can see the opening of the tunnel ahead of her.

Xiao Long started down the tunnel that had been illuminated, looking back and forth at the tunnel. The tunnel seemed to be only an extension of the hole. The walls were just as jagged, and at som epoints thy seemed to be death traps, so that if you leaned on them you'd be skewered. She continued down the tunnel, unwrapping her hand and examining them. They had been shredded by the spiky walls, and holding a sword was going to be difficult. She pulled out one sword and held it in her hand. It felt okay, with only a small amount of pain. She then struck it against a wall, causing a reverberating echo throughout the entire tunnel. A sharp pain lanced through her hand, and she said, "Shit, shouldn't have done that..."

Hearing the echo, Kilisha came out of the daze that had settled over her not long after the tentacle had pulled her into the tunnel. She found herself lying on the floor of a cavern, staring up at a stalactite. The tentacle was still wrapped tightly around her waist, but she felt too weak to move anyway. On her forehead, she felt what seemed to be fingertips, and against the top of her head, she felt the palm of a hand. She couldn't hear the voice of the spirit that she had consumed earlier, and she felt like her own essense was being sucked into the palm. This felt strange, causing her eyes to feel sleepy, but also causing her stomach to feel incredibly sick.

It was just then that Xiao Long came to the end of the tunnel. Beyond it lay a large cavern, lit by a pale green glow that didn't seem to have any source. In the center of the cavern's floor lay Kilisha, being held by the tentacle but not making any movements to escape. Aside from the tentacle around her waist, another tentacle lay closer to Kilisha's head. This tentacle had a human hand on its end which it held against the top of Kilisha's head. Both of these tentacles ran back some distance further into the cavern where they joined with what was simply a large orb of flesh. Out of this orb ran a great many other tentacles, some large and extending into more tunnels around the sides of the cavern, others short and simply lying on the floor. Overall, the entire creature looked like it was dead except at the end of the tentacle that held Kilisha's waist and the hand which would change the position of one of its fingers every few seconds.

Noticing Xiao Long's arrival, Kilisha slowly turned her head to look at the girl, hoping that she wasn't seeing some false image.

"H...help...," Kilisha said in a weak whisper that took most of her strength to conjure.

Meanwhile, after a long stare-down between the three incubi and the two humans, Jeshua finally nudged Seryntas.

"Hey," he said. "... I think we can take them."

Xiao Long saw the hand on Kilisha's forehead and gasped in surprise. She strung her bow and left fly on arrow which was aimed at the hand tipped tentacle. She made sureto aim a little to the left, away from Kilisha's head. Before she saw whether or not the arrow had hit it's mark, she let fly two more arrows at the orb of flesh she saw towards the back of the cavern. She then threw down her bow and unsheathed her jians.

"Of course we can take them, old man. But we have to make sure we have a captive, so we can trade him for Kilisha, if that gatekeeper thing's the bargaining sort."

Seryntas tilted his head to either side, eliciting a muffled crack from within his armor. "Let's dance, demons!" He held his sword in a combat stance, then with surprising agility for a man his size, lept forward and assaulted the first incubus with it.

***The Cavern***

(Arrow 1: d20-Roll 17)

The first arrow fired by the wood elf pierced the targetted tentacle a little ways behind the hand. The tentacle recoiled, removing its fingers from Kilisha's head.

The succubus could now no longer feel her soul being sucked out, and what part of it that had left her was immediately drawn back in. The other soul, however, did not return to her, and, with what awareness she had at the moment, she felt thankful. Unfortunately, that awareness was immediately dulled even further, as the sleepiness in her eyes and the sickness in her stomach suddenly increased.

(Arrow 2: d20-Roll 20 *critical*)

The second arrow to be fired from Xiao Long's bow struck the orb of flesh hard and dead center, its shaft driving in all the way up to the feather. At this, a painful convulsion ran out through all the tentacles, after which the shorter ones rose from the ground and began angrily waving about, preparing to defend their owner.

(Arrow 3: d20-Roll 20 *critical*)

The third arrow struck not far from the second, driving in just as deeply. Another shudder ran through the tentacles, after which their fury was heightened.

Battle

Order of Initiative

The Gatekeeper

Though the orb of flesh could not see its attacker, its sense of pain had informed it of her presence. Therefore, it quickly determined that it would have two objectives. One would be to maintain control of its prisoner so that, after its soul extracting organ was repaired, it could resume draining her. The other would be to incapacitate the attacker, preferably in a non-lethal manner so that it would be able to take her soul as well.

To the first end, the tentacle around Kilisha's waste retracted, drawing her in close to her captor's main body. Two more tentacles then wrapped around her arms tightly so that the succubus would not be able to fight even if she were in any condition to do so.

To the second end, the rest of the undead tendrils began to thrash about even more violently, striking wildly in seemingly random directions. Naturally, one of the things flew in Xiao Long's direction.

(Tentacle Strike: d20-Roll 7)

To the girl's fortune, though, the thing missed. Unable to determine the kid's position, the monster was left open to a direct attack.

***The Mountaintop***

(Attack Incubus: d20-Roll 11)

Seryntas' blade clashed against the armor on the incubus' chest, creating a large bruise and causing the demon to stumble back a few steps.

Incubus Leader

"Hmph," the demon grunted, having quickly regained its balance.

He might have known that the large human would try something like that. Raising its own sword, the leader of the incubi lunged at Seryntas, taking a stab at the man.

(Stab: d20-Roll 5)

But, there was not enough force behind the lunge. And so, the blade simply glanced off the man's armor, causing no damage at all.

She saw that her onslaught of arrows had hit their mark, but was disappointed in seeing the creature draw Kilisha in rather than give up.

"Look like I've gotta do this the hard way," she said. She rushed up to the tentacled being, slashing at any tentacles that came after her, trying to reach Kilisha in hopes of freeing her from the tentacles that were bound about her.

Seryntas immediately saw an opening. The incubus leader's attack had glanced off, and naturally unbalanced him. So Seryntas decided to capitalize on that lack of balance and ducked low, slamming his greater bulk into the demon as hard as he could, attempting to drive him off the mountaintop.

(OOC: Really, plate armor works much better than football pads in these cases.)

(OOC: I'll post something soon, but right now, there is a matter of some importance that needs to be addressed. The system I've been trying to use isn't working out. Basically, it's forcing my posts to be horribly long, difficult to come up with, and just an unpleasant chore overall for me. So, I've decided to change it. From now on, the RPers will do basically the same thing that they've been doing in their posts, but I'm not going to use orders of initiative or dice anymore. Instead, the RPers will only have to wait until the GM reacts to their post before posting again, and the GM is going to just arbitrarily determine whether what the characters try works or not, keeping in mind the goal of keeping things fair, reasonably believable, and interesting. That way, I can be a human instead of a computer... and stuff.

So, do we find this agreeable?)

***In the Cave***

Xiao Long made it to Kilisha. By slashing the tentacles along the way, though, she made her general position known to the monster. One of the tentacles waved toward her, barely passing over her head, then, realizing that it had missed its target, lowered itself and swung back toward her again.

***The Mountaintop***

The incubus leader felt the metal armor slam into him and was sent flying back through the air, dropping his sword and landing just past the edge of the mountaintop, then, carried by momentum, began a long tumble down the slope.

The other two incubi were stunned at first by their leader's swift ejection. However, what some would call courage and others would call foolishness quickly drove away their hesitation. Raising their swords, they charged at Seryntas.

Raising his staff, Jeshua began to chant. The end of the staff began to glow with a blaze, and he pointed it at one of the incubi. But, just before he could release the fireball that he had conjured, something on the sword the first incubus had dropped caught his eye. So, canceling the spell, he bolted over to the sword and snatched it up.

"What are you doing, old man?" Seryntas yelled, his momentary lack of focus causing him to only just barely move his exposed face out of the way of a sword blow. He faked with his shoulder then spun, swinging his greatsword in a full circle and aimed right at one of the incubi.

Xiao Long made it Kilisha and bent down to pick her up, but noticed the tentacle coming back towards her and jumped out of the way, slashing at the attacking tentacle. Her objective at the moment was to get Kilisha to safety, but she needed to keep herself alive to do this. Once Kilisha was out of the way, she could go all out.

***Mountaintop***

Seryntas' blade cut through the armor on the targeted incubus' side and about an fourth of an inch into his flesh, eliciting a shriek of pain.

Upon hearing Seryntas' shout, Jeshua glanced back at the man.

"Can't you see that I'm busy?" he snapped.

As if he had forgotten all about the incubi, or maybe just stopped caring about them, he went back to peering at the sword. The third incubus noticed the mage's inattention. Raising his sword above his head, he charged at the old man.

Jeshua, deciding to try holding the sword in both hands, haphazardly tossed his staff aside. As soon as the wooden stick hit the ground, a lightning bolt discharged from it and struck the charging incubus, rendering him unconsious and knocking him back into his partner, who, as a result, found himself pinned to the ground.

***Cave***

After Xiao Long's sword passed through it, the end of the tentacle fell to the floor, leaving a stump to wave about for a moment, then suddenly recoil. Several more tentacles began waving about the area, but, for the moment, none came too close to the wood elf.

Seryntas jumped back just in time to not get slammed into as well. Seeing they were piled on top of each other, Seryntas sauntered over and put his foot on the chest of the incubus on top. He pointed his sword rather offhandly at them. "Either of you try and get up and I kill you both. This sword's sharp enough, and I weigh enough, to skewer at least one of you. Understand?"

Then, to Jeshua: "What's so special about the sword that you have to leave me on my own, anyway? The other demon is still down there, and he'll probably be back up there soon."

Xiao Long glanced around and saw she had a moments reliefm and so decided to heave Kilisha up and dash back towards the tunnel, although somewhat unsuccessfully what with her less-than-abundant strength. All the while, she made sure to ward off any tentacles waving about her.

***Cave***

Aside from Kilisha's weight, another obstacle that worked to prevent Xiao Long's success in getting Kilisha away were the tentacles that were still wrapped around the succubus' arms and waist. Kilisha conjured some strength and tried to pull one of her arms free, but the tendril was wrapped too tightly around it.

***Mountaintop***

Jeshua ignored Seryntas' question completely, continuing to examine the sword closely. After a moment he scratched his chin.

"Interesting..." the archmage mumbled.

He then made an arcane gesture with his hand and disappeared. The staff on the ground disappeared as well.

After one more moment, the leader of the incubi came running back up from the hillside.

"Well, well, well. Look who's back," Seryntas grumbled as he heard the sound of the incubus climbing back up. "Hey, why don't you two stick around here a sec. I'll be back." He took his sword and smashed the two prostrate incubi with the flat of the blade on the heads as hard as he could until they were both unconscious, then charged to the edge of the plateau.

Xiao Long dashed off with Kilisha's motionless body... or at least tried to. She had fully intended to cuther loose, but in the commotion had forgotten this rather important detail. As she was jerked back by teh tendril, she mentally smackedherself in the forehead. She whipped out her sword and cut the tendrils from Kilisha's body, then attempted to make another attempt at a dash towards the tunnel opening.

The incubus leader saw Seryntas as he neared the edge of the mountaintop. Baring his claws, he dashed at the man.

***Cavern***

Several tentacles swung in Xiao Long's general direction as she approached the tunnel, but none of them managed to connect. After a short amount of time, the wood elf had finally reached the opening. The tentacles continued to sling about in the cavern, searching for the prey that had eluded them.

Seryntas readied his sword as though to swing it with his left (off) hand, while in fact preparing to strike with his right elbow and then hit him with the sword. Gloating about this plan of his silently, he prepared his assault.

(OOC: Once the incubus gets in range, Seryntas is going to hit him as described. You can describe the action yourself, to save both of us a post.)

Now, for the assault on that jelly thing, Xiao Long thought. She looked and examined the gelatinous being, trying to fin some sort of blatant weakness or blindspot. She pulled out her bow and began shooting arrows randomly to see how the monster would react.

***Mountaintop***

The incubus, seeing Seryntas preparing to attack with the sword, got ready to guard against it as he continued to close the distance. However, because of his concentration on the sword, the strike from the large man's elbow caught him by surprise, stunning him long enough for the sword to hit as well. As a result of the two consecutive blunt force traumas, the demon stumbled back a few steps in a momentary daze.

***Cavern***

As Xiao Long's arrows pierced the monster's filmy skin, a thin, dark green liquid began to ooze from the holes. Feeling the pain from these new injuries, the creature began to sling its tentacles about even more violently, but none of the appendages actually entered the tunnel.

Meanwhile, Kilisha, now safe for the moment at least, groaned softly as she felt the sick feeling in her stomach intensify further. Luckily, though, she realized that she could now move her limbs much more easily, although she still felt like she could pass out at any moment. To help alleviate the sick feeling, she rolled onto her right side and pulled her knees up to her chest, curling up into a ball.

Xiao Long continued shooting, wondering what to do next. She decided that perhaps she should bring kilisha back to Seryntas and Jeshua and have them help her. Then, she began to wonder why the jelly thing didn't come after her, and how the jelly thing could've gotten to Kilisha in the first place, since even the tunnel seemed to be out of its reach. She finally stopped firing and decided to get her back to Seryntas and the mage.

The monster's fury seemed to die down not long after Xiao Long stopped firing at it. It almost seemed as if the creature was going to let the two go.

However... somewhere down the tunnel, a faint sound of crackling rocks could be heard.

She carried Kilisha back down the tunnel, and began to relax a bit after she heard the monster's screaming and fits die down. When she reached the first shaft where she had first come down, she faced a problem. How am I going to get back up, she thought. Suddenly, an idea hit her. She took out some rope, tied it to the last of her arrows and shot it stright up into the air, hoping that it would make it past the opening of the chasm, and that the rope was long enough.

Seryntas' first punch put a bruise on the demon's right cheek, but the second punch only knocked it back to its senses. Seeing Seryntas' grab for its shoulders, it jumped back out of reach, then dashed forward again and threw an uppercut at the man's jaw followed by a knee to his stomach.

Just then, Xiao Long's arrow flew out of the hole and some ways into the air, then landed on the rocky ground around the hole's edge. It didn't really stick in though, unfortunately.
