The draconian continued, "My plan? Well, this tower happens to be sustained by large amounts of magic, apparently tied to one of the resident's possessions. If we destroy him, and whatever's causing the tower to stay up, it should collapse rather easily. Of course we'll have to get out really fast, but I can handle that."

"Yes, you can handle that, but some of us don't have wings." Elijah gave him a blank stare.

"....oh, right." The draconian glanced back to the ceiling for a moment. "I can get the rest of you out too... but how I can is going to remain a secret until the time comes."

The draconian glanced to the chains again.

"Secrets are not exactly the best thing to keep from would-be saviors..." Elijah just stared into his eyes for a bit, contemplating.

The draconian glared into Elijah's eyes for a moment.

"Frankly, the only reason I keep it a secret is because... I don't want the residents to find out. Which is why I'm waiting until they're dealt with to reveal it."

He then glanced at the others.

"...aaaaaand..... you guys look like you've already been through quite a bit."

"Yeah, you could say that. Damn lich insists on putting magic-resistant creatures on guard all over the place. I'll be glad to see it reduced to a pile of rubble. How long does it take to unhook a bunch of chains, anyway?"

"....oh, right," the draconian added. "Can't you guys hurry up on the chains?"

Damon, however, seemed alarmed at this. He also went over to the chains, and tried to get them off... but his fingers couldn't quite reach far enough to pull them.

"Someone else will have to take care of the chains... my fingers aren't quite that flexible," Damon said upon finding this out.

Sighing Elijah khelt down, "Yes I suppose some horrible evil will descend upon us soon, so best to get you out of here now...." And so he tried as best he could to remove them.

After a couple of minutes of careful movements, Elijah was able to pry off the chain from its stake. Taking a few minutes, he then removed them from around the draconian.

Surprisingly, when the chain just fell limp near the end, there was still more of it left around the draconian's right arm. However, said chain was ONLY around his right arm. Thus, he was freed, and he immediately leaned up, stretching his arms and wings. He looked as if he had been starved, judging by the general over-leanness of his body.

"Anyhow... who are you guys? I never got the chance to ask since I was so panicked. But you seem all right."

As Damon kept himself quiet, waiting for the others, the draconian answered, "....huh? Me? Of course I've got a name - I probably wouldn't be so concerned with being saved if I didn't have one."

The draconian smiled for a moment before continuing, "That name is Darrith Redfang. Though just Darrith will be fine."

Darrith looked down toward his stomach after saying this, now frowning.

"Jeffrey Kasan," Jeff said simply, suppressing his impatience at how long this was taking. The lich would probably use the delay to his advantage, assuming he was paying any attention whatsoever to the goings on in his tower.

Darrith looked around carefully for a moment, nodding at the recent name.

Then Damon spoke to Darrith. "Just call me Damon." He then reached out his hand, which Darrith shook, while at the same time pointing to a spot in the wall.

To Elijah and Layne, the spot Darrith was pointing at seemed to be just a tad bit darker than the rest of the wall around it. It was more clear what was going on when Darrith said, "There's something back there... I believe the resident was stashing something for an emergency yesterday, and I saw them at the wall, but that's about it."

Darrith looked downward to the floor again, muttering, "Damn, am I hungry." He looked at Elijah then, shaking his head. "Water isn't the thing... I can take care of that myself, but I've been lacking food for several days."

"....no. I don't eat things that look human if I can help it. Besides, we may need him later..."

Darrith was being rather harsh in his tone of voice. Irritability was starting to set in to him, but then, as his tongue came out for a moment, he looked at Damon.

"Don't even try it, Darrith," was Damon's response to this.

"I suppose we have other worries besdies hunger, yes." Elijah crept up towards the wall and looked around for the device that could possibly be used to open it.

Elijah couldn't notice anything that could have been used to open the wall. It seemed as if this was a joke.

But when Elijah touched the wall, his hand went right through it. He pulled his hand back and found no harm was done to either his hand or the wall.

This part of the wall was apparently some sort of clever, although likely overused, illusion meant to keep out the unwary.

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">"... sweet! Let me try!"

Layne stuck his hand in the wall. Then took it out. Put it in. Took it out. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out...

"That is awesome... ^_^" Layne then shoved his whole head through, saying, "Peekaboo!"</span>

Layne saw a rather small room beyond the wall when he poked his head through. The room was mostly empty, except for some sort of stone structure, looking like a large fountain, taking up the back half, and a crate near the front, about three feet high.

Inside the stone structure was what appeared to be water. Just pure water - no fish swimming in it, no insects around it, no filth at all. Perhaps this was a storeroom?

Elijah poked his head through nad made his way cautiously inside, approaching the crate and moving his head continuously, scanning the room's ceiling floor, ect.

Elijah immediately noted that the walls and ceiling were rather worn, as parts of them were intended somewhat. Most of these indentations were small, but a few could have actually served as handholds if they were in a room that had a higher ceiling. Only about ten feet of distance separated the floor and the ceiling in this little room.

The crate, meanwhile, was a simple wooden one. It was evident that it had been around for a long time - this was shown by a thin layer of dust on it. Surprisingly, however, the wood was still in good shape, and the crate looked like it would take quite a bit of work to open.

Upon seeing Elijah's disappearance through the illusionary wall, Jeff followed. The scene before him was a distinct disappointment. This was a lot of trouble to go to to hide something as mundane as a storeroom.

Unsurprisingly, his thoughts soon turned to petty vandalism. I think I've got a packet of dye on me somewhere... I wonder how that pool would look like green?

"Blast it... I wonder if there's even aything worth opening it in there... hmmm but its something no one would of bothered touching for a long long time... that object you mentioned perhaps Darith?" Elijah began to climb up those holesm looking into each one thoroughly before sticking any of the tips of his limbs in them, when he got to the ceiling he would tap it to see if it was solid.

"That's not where the object would be," Darrith pointed out, as he came over to the fake wall. "The resident always keeps the object with either himself or one of his guards; either way, it's at the top of the tower."

Damon remained in the torture room, eventually going over to one of the 'iron maidens' out of curiosity. Meanwhile, Darrith continued, "Anyway, if you guys can help me get the crate open, I'll tell you something else I overheard."

Elijah could tell that the ceiling was indeed solid.

"Well, we need something that can get under the boards in this crate," Darrith responded. "If no one has such, we'll just have to break it open. I don't think the contents are THAT delicate..."

Suddenly, there was a noise in the torture room. It could be easily told that it was Damon's voice, as he stood in front of the now-opened iron maiden, a staff laying on the floor that was certainly not his shikomi-zue.

"OWW!! Dammit, that hurt!" was what he had said.

"A crowbar, eh?" Jeff said, leaving aside his contemplation of the pool, "Never really went in for those. People can always tell if you've broken into somewhere using a crowbar..." Without an obvious source of annoyance, he was acting far more like his old self.

Jeff perused the room. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be anything that fit the bill in here. Perhaps in the outer room. There was certainly a wide array of objects in there, disgusting as most of them might be.

And, from the noises emanating from Damon, potentially hazardous. Jeff stuck his head out through the 'wall' to see what was going on.

Outside in the main room, Elijah and Jeff noticed that Damon was waving his right hand through the air crazily, as if it were on fire. And yet, it wasn't.

"Frickin' staff burned my hand!!" Damon yelled.

Meanwhile, Darrith kept looking at the crate. "Well, we'll just have to bust this open ourselves, then. I honestly want to know what's in here."

"Talk about convenient," Jeff said, oblivious to Damon's suffering, "That could be just what we need." He wandered over to check out the staff and its prising potential. Of course, its tendency to burn people was a point against it...

"I just grabbed the thing," Damon began, "and my hand felt like it was being burned!"

Nothing seemed too special about the iron maiden - no one was inside it, no pieces of flesh, not even a drop of blood. Perhaps it was one that had never been used before, or the owner was rather meticulous.

As for the staff, it looked much like a piece of wood that had been subjected to the elements for too long. The one exception to the low quality of the staff was that there were chunks of what appeared to be whitish stone embedded in it at various points.

One of them had a strange inscription on it... which looked rather similar to writing.

Elijah flicked his eyes, giving the maiden a once over, and then turned them to the staff. "Well maybe it's really alive or something and doesn't like creatures besides its master touching it... and where'd this staff come from?"

Damon shook his head.

"I don't think that's it. I found the staff poking out of that iron maiden a bit, decided to take it out, but as soon as I grabbed the staff it burned me! And then I had to drop the thing!"

Meanwhile, a loud noise came from the room that had been hidden. Those watching inside that room had seen Darrith try to kick the crate open.

"...pah, too much," Darrith muttered. Then his voice became somewhat louder. "I'm going to need you others to help me open this."

To Elijah's surprise, the staff didn't burn his hand when he picked it up. Apparently there was something about Damon that had caused the staff to burn him.

Elijah was also better able to understand the inscription. Part of it read, "...to cause harm to the darkness and purge those that would corrupt the innocent..."

IM: doesn't bode well for who this "Damon" is.

Elijah stared into Damon's eyes for a moment, then turned to go back into the hidden room to help out with the box.

Darrith had not made any progress with the box. It was as if he had too little strength to even try to force it open.

He had his hands on the top edge of the crate as Elijah returned. "I've been trying to lift the top of this open... to no avail."
