Devon searched his pack until he found what he was looking for. Triumphantly, he pulled out some dry rations and handed them to the kids.
"Here you go. These should keep you going for awhile."
Then he went to follow the group.

"I don't mean to interfere with the proceedings," Ashrem said as he followed the group, "But is there some sort of trail we're going to be following after the side trip to the temple, or are we merely to go around asking people if they've attacked any children in the sewers lately?"

Confident that the children were alright, Midoku hurried down the corridor after the Dark Knight, keeping a good distance away from the flowing waste to his left.

Something's wrong... but why won't he tell me what...? He wondered, reaching the end of the hall. He had arrived back to the cellar steps leading up into the Inn. Not wasting a moment, he climbed the stairs, hurrying out into the Inn...

...to find it emply.

"...Stephan? Are you up here?" Midoku called out, looking around the main dining area. Glancing to the floor, he noticed a trail of grimey footprints leading across the floor to the front of the Inn, the entrance door wide open?

Ã³.Ã² "....why did you go....?" he said aloud, staring at the open door.

...why can't you tell me what's wrong...?

Kotoki tapped Midoku on the shoulder. "Erm," she started apologetically. "Could you please go and get a white mage...? I don't think we should move her too much."

She pointed to the little girl carefully layed out over the bar.

Midoku facefaulted a bit at the girl on the bar, feeling a bit guilty for chasing after Stephan instead of assisting them more.

o.o;; "Oh, right away Ms Kotoki, I believe there is one nearby..." he told the inn-keeper. Without wasting another moment, he was out the door and heading down the road looking for help...

Midoku walked down the street. As he walked, he spotted someone who looked like a white mage- a rather flat chested woman in a large shirt, wearing a choker with the symbol of Ashura.

Kotoki started fussing with Velvetine, trying to make her more comfortable. "Jak?" she asked. "Could you get some blankets from the attic?"

Jak slowed to a halt, muttering and turning around, heading back to the inn basement. Storming off to kill someone for brutally wounding a kid wasn't any good if you left the kid to die.

He returned a few minutes later, dumping a blanket down besides the girl.

"Now, once the white mage gets here we're going to kill these people, right?" hissed, irritated by the tardiness of the entire group.

Oh... thank goodness! Midoku thought to himself. He quickly approached the woman, nodding to her politely.

"Excuse me madam... I apologise for disturbing you, but we somewhat of an emergency at Kotoki's Inn..." he started to say to her...

**Meanwhile**

...I...I... why the #$@# am I doing this... I didn't have to...

...of course you did... he was in your way... he cared nothing of what he did to you... you should feel the same for him...

..b....but...he...he said to stop..... th..this doesn't feel...right...

...Give it time... that's all it will take... you'll see...

A shadowy figure makes their way down an alleyway of the capital, as another man is left lying there, left in a sight that no person should have to see, his last words a cry for help to the Gods as his life fades to an end...

(OOC: just more foreshadowing of things that already happened ^_^; )

As Midoku spoke, he noticed that said woman was actually a very pretty man. "Oh, Kotoki's?" he asked. "Of course. What's wrong now?"

Kotoki nodded. "Of course! As soon as she's taken care of, we'll go back and join the others. There's no way I'm gonna let anyone get away with this..."

"Well that depends", said Kraken, and then seeing the look in Jak's eye continued, "on what kind of person they are. I mean judging from what we know whoever did this is unlikely to be from this city or to consort with the kind of people I do." He paused to take a breath and spoke sighing as he did so, "so its looking pretty bleak I'm afraid unless our new friend Brandon can tell us anything."

The pretty man entered the inn, and Kotoki blinked and waved. "Raile!"

"Good day," he replied pleasantly. "Where's the patient...?" He stopped short as he noticed Velvetine lying on the inn counter. "That looks bad."

Kotoki bit her lip worriedly. "You can save her, right?"

Nodding, Raile touched the little girl's wound lightly. A stream of white energy seemed to flow into her body, and the wound healed considerably. "She'll be fine," he said quietly. "I'll take her back to the temple, okay?"

Kotoki nodded and waved as the man picked Velvetine up and left. "Well then," she said cheerfully, "shall we get going?"

Brandon got up and started walking towards the sewer entrance.

The group walked back through the sewer, Brandon leading them. Finally they reached the divide in the passage. Denim and Cordroy stared after them anxiously.

"Don't worry," said Kotoki cheerfully, patting them both on the head. "She'll be fine."

Brandon stood quietly at the beginning of the yet unexplored part of the sewer. "Let's go."

Jak moved forward, eyes darting back and forth. He expected a trap or an ambush, of course, his experience with darkened, narrow passages making him justifiably paranoid.

"Hey, get up here and check the area." he called behind him, hoping that the hired help would be smart enough to know that he was speaking to him.

Midoku, having followed the white mage into the Inn, glanced back at the entrance to the Bar Area.

Ã³.Ã² ...maybe I should go after him... Midoku thought. He glanced over at the group gathering at the sewer entrance, then let out a small sigh.

v.v ...but Kotoki is my friend... I should try to help... and that poor child... the people who did this to us cannot be allowed to get away with this...

Bawling his fists, he started toward the entrance with the others, taking one last glance over at the door.

-_- ...Stephan... please, be safe... he thought, as he poked Kotoki on the shoulder.

o.o "Miss Kotoki, I'd like to help you all if I could."

***Meanwhile***

The Dark Knight lurched down the road of town, holding his forehead with his palm. A few townsfolk quickly got out of his way, sensing that something seemed wrong with this individual.

-_-; ...wh..what just happened...? Stephan thought to himself, as he tried to make his way back to Kotoki's, ...I...something @$@#ed up was going on with my he...

He chose that moment to pull his palm away from his forehead, blinking a few times as he felt something drip down an eyelid.

Glancing at his palm, he saw what the substance was....

blood.

;; ...where the hell did that come from...? he wondered, wiping the substance on the crimson interior of his cape, ...did I hurt myself...?

Kraken crept down the tunnel looking for traps and with all his senses tingling, ready for that giveaway sight or sound that might betray an ambush.

Kotoki nodded gratefully, smiling at the Blue Mage. "Of course. I think we're going to need all the help we can get, if we want to find Alissa..."

Meanwhile, Kraken sneaked around the passageway. It was cramped and almost totally dark. There were no traps, and nobody else seemed to be in the tunnel.

Brandon nodded and began walking. The rest of the group followed behind him.

After roughly ten minutes of walking, the group reached a half-rusted iron door. It was open a crack, and light spilled through to the passage.

Jak stopped, knowing that there might very well be a dozen or so soldiers on the other side.

He crept up to the door as quietly as possible, and tried to listen to any sounds that were coming from the other side.

"Shut up!" Jak hissed at the dim witted "revolutionary", and continued to listen, hoping that he'd at least be able to hear if the guards were running to greet them with a sword point to the gut.

The sounds beyond the door were only those of footsteps, reasonably far away, and slightly muffled conversations.

Kotoki cautiously moved forward and peeked through the crack.

The door opened into a huge and rather inhabited vaulted cave. Large brown tents lay camped in rows, and torches were everywhere. Busy looking soldiers rushed around the cave. Directly in the middle, a group of people surrounded a figure she couldn't quite make out.

"Let's go," said Brandon quietly. "We're wasting time."

Jak peeking into the camp, and grinned. Unaware, unprepared and extremely flammable. He liked the situation.

Then he remembered they were in a sewer.

"Shit...how many do you think there are?"

His strength lay with his magic. With his strongest two spell types "out of commission" down here, he'd have to rely on Ice magic, and those little hobbies he'd kept up for some reason.

"...Lots," said Kotoki under her breath. "It looks like they brought in a big chunk of the army... One fifty or more, maybe. We're going to need to be careful."

Brandon, apparently ignoring everything she had just said, opened the door and walked into the cave.

o.o? How odd... why would anyone choose a place for waste disposal as a hideout? Surely the tactical advantage is not the health risk... Midoku wondered, making sure to keep himself behind the rest of the group. Spoting the individual surrounded, he assumed what the others were likely thinking themselves.

That must be Miss Alyssa... I only hope Ms. Kotoki or Mr. Brandon... or *someone* has a plan >_>;;; he thought to himself, sweating slightly in nervousness under his hat. He started to go forward, in order to ask Kotoki what she had in mind for a plan. However, he found that he was unable to move. Turning his head, he looked to his shoulder, to find a bloodied gauntlet grabbing him there.

O_@

o\/o? "Hey Mid... what's going o...?" Stephan started ask. Before he could finish the sentence, or Midoku had time to recognize the voice speaking, the Blue Wizard choose that moment to further reduce their tactical advantage.

"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" The Wizard cried out, jerking away from the Dark Knight's bloodied gauntlet...

Kotoki blinked several times as she noted the rather bloody Stephan. "Hello," she said worriedly, glaning back and forth from him to Brandon. "Uh..."

Meanwhile, said bard was walking intently through the cave. His target seemed to be a soldier sitting next to a tent, cleaning blood off his sword.

Jak scowled. What sort of idiot was this fool! Even when it came to dealing vengeance, a small group did not take on a sizeable detachment of soldiers, especially head on.

Then again, Brandon was the one these men were after. The open door in front of him cried out to him, demanding that he close it and let Brandon walk himself into trouble, and out of his life.

But Kotoki would kill him if he did that.

Muttering something under his breath, he half-heartedly charged a fireball in his hand and lobbed it into the camp, swearing he would bleed the bard for a pint of blood for every drop he lost from this.

"Heh... for once I like your plan, Snide." Stephan said, somehow smirking with both a look of joy and desire for battle.

...oh no... e_e; Midoku thought to himself, sighing as he watched the Dark Knight lob a Fire spell to join with the black mage's into the camp...

The two fire spells roared as they hit the ground, burning quite a few soldiers. The remaining scattered away from the newly made glass like leaves in the wind.

The man with the bloody sword jumped up and turned to go, only to be stopped by Brandon. "Hello," said the bard quietly. "You seem to be the one who injured that girl."

"What of i- your highness!?"

Brandon narrowed his eyes and calmly uppercut the man in the gut. Despite the protection his armor afforded him, he doubled over coughing up blood. Brandon lifted him up by the scruff of his neck and punched straight through his chest.

Kotoki drew out her crossbow and jumped out into the cavern as several soldiers drew near.

"Ehehe, Ok ya @$#@ers, prepare for some serious hurting..." Stephan cackled, starting to run in after Kotoki. A blue hand quickly grabbed his arm, the Dark Knight's momentum pulling Midoku along a moment before he noticed being held.

o\/o? "Hey, why'd you stop me?" he asked, the mage sighing before he looked up.

e_e; "Stephan... we are about to charge into a room full of armed soldiers... do you not think we should have SOME form of plan?" Midoku told him, the Dark Knight raising an eyebrow in response.

o\/Ã³ "...why bother? They already know we're coming, might as well get the hell in there and start doing something." he replied. Letting out another, slightly growling sigh, Midoku turned away from him, facing back into the sewer.

>\/>++ "Fine then, go in there without any form of plan whatsoever, charge in and guarantee that you will get seriously hurt... ._." he told him, tilting his head downward toward the floor. Sighing himself, and looking around to make sure no one was looking (at the moment anyway), he quickly walked over, giving the mage a small hug from behind.

-_-; "...Ok, Ok... you're right... I guess it WOULD be kinda stupid to fight five on one... even if it would be kickass. ^_^" Stephan said, feeling Midoku's chest sigh in response.

v_V;; "...but not smart yeah." He said with a mild drop of sweat down his cheek, "...you don't happen to have a plan... do you?"

9.9 "As a matter of fact, I might." Midoku spoke, a tiny smile starting to come back. He pulled away from the Dark Knight, turning around and pointing into the room.

o.o "I will attempt to disrupt some of the oncoming soldiers with my air magic, at which point it should be much safer for you to engage them in the confusion. And of course, I will continue to assist where I can." he told the Dark Knight, who looked into the room with an eager, slightly violent grin.

"Ehehe... I think I like this plan." he said, smiling to the blue wizard, "So... shall we beat the @$#@$ outta these @#$#holes? >:D"

"Yes, lets ^_^" Midoku smiled back, following the Dark Knight as the two ran into the room after Kotoki and the others. As they entered, Stephan sidestepped as Midoku finished his incantation, sending a massive swirling gust of wind into some soldiers. As the mage ceased casting, the Dark Knight took that opportunity to run foward, his blade ready for the closest soldier unfortunate enough to be distracted by the gust.
