Jak eyed the others with a slight feeling of embarrassment. For a person who stakes his entire reputation on being a volatile ball of raw power, having people even mention his love for Kotoki in public was slightly annoying, even if he had gotten more used to it of late.

"Erm...so, Brandon, right? Why are you up here in Doma anyway?"

"Actually..." started Brandon, shuffling his feet nervously. "That really has to do with what I want to talk about..."

Kotoki shrugged. "So talk." she said, hopping onto the counter and dangling her legs.

"Well-" started Brandon. He was cut off rather rudely as three soldiers in foreign suits of armor burst into the inn with swords drawn.

The appearent leader looked at Brandon. "So here you are."

Die-o~!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Thu Jun 13, 2002 4:36 pm

"Oh f*cking great! I told you this guy was trouble!" Jak proclaimed, glaring at Kotoki, then quickly shifting his gaze to 'Dan.

"Alright, what do you all want?" he scowled at the guards. "I don't take armed people rushing into our inn lightly." His voice dripped with venom, the mage obviously disliking the trio who had invaded his home.

At this point Kraken who had somehow made his way onto the floor of the inn stood up, right in front of one of the armoured guards. His vision was blurry and he stared into the helmet of the foremost guard "Who....the hell....are you?" he said tapping a finger against a metal breast plate.

The man made a face, taking a few steps back. "Official Thernish Royal Guard Force." he replied. "We've come for him. The rest is none of your concern."

"I'm... I'm not going with you." replied Brandon quietly, hands shaking. "You can't make me..."

"Who says we can't?" said another one, with a sneer. "We have orders."

Kotoki sighed and frowned. "If he says he doesn't want to go, leave him alone." she said. "This is my inn and I don't take kindly to people who take away my customers."

Royal Guard Force? thought Devon. This triggered some instincts that Devon had long ago embedded in his mind.
He drew his longsword threateningly.
"I hate royal guards. You're all just bloody extensions of an outmoded system of government."

One of the guards walked over to the bar, taking Molo's next freshly-cooked dish and shoving most of it in his mouth. . .then proceeding to spit it out in disgust. "Hmph." he scoffed. "It's a pity these back-alley slobfests are even still around. . ."

"WAAAAH!!" Molo jumped up, grabbing his Chopstick Katanas from his pocket, getting ready to enlarge them at any second. "Jak, do something!! Who are these guys!?"

Brandon bit his lip. "Please leave." he said quietly. "I don't want to fight you, but if you force me to..."

"You?" asked the guard incredulously. "Fight us? And *win*?" His grip tightened on his sword. "Remember, you can kill the rest- but her majesty will have our heads on the block if he dies."

Weee, guilt-free stabbing! ^_^

Unread postby FF Fanatic 80 » Fri Jun 14, 2002 11:10 am

**A few moments earlier**

O_O;; "Oh my!" Midoku thought aloud, looking at the guards entering the Inn behind Stephan. As the guards spoke to Brandon, threatening to take him away, one of the patrons at the Inn seemed more happy about it than should be normal.

^_^ Ehehehe... tough luck, bardboy... Stephan cackled to himself, nearly laughing aloud as he smiled.

e.e Let's see you try and steal 'him' away now...

Midoku, however, was thinking something else. The blue wizard started to get angry, his fists balled and shaking slightly on the table.

>\/>;;; "We can't let them take Mr. Brandon... I know he's a nice man..." Midoku whispered to Stephan, causing him to cough up his drink.

O_o; "Eh?!" Stephan stammered back, wiping up the drink, "But, you barely know the guy?!?!"

>.> "Yes, I know but... I can't explain it, I know he shouldn't go with those men."

V.V "...he has something important to do..."

<\/< "Bah, big deal. He probably robbed some rich bastard or something, why should we care if he was stupid enough to get caught?" Stephan complained back.

o\/o+++ "BECAUSE I SAID SO..." Midoku growled back in a hushed voice. The Dark Knight recoiled in response, eyes wide in surprise.

o_o;; Damn, I've never seen him get *this* worked up over anybody...? Stephan though, as Midoku got up to face the guards behind him. The gears in his head started turning and came to a horrifying thought.

,ó.ò, OH GODS, WHAT IF HE DOESN'T LOVE ME ANYMORE!?

e\/e+++ That tears it, I'm taking this sword... Stephan thought, drawing his sword and turning around toward Brandon, And stabbing that bishy basta...

Then he spotted the guards. Then he remembered what they had done earlier. Then he remembered that he wanted to stab something pretty f*#king bad at that moment, shoving his jealous thoughts out of the way for the time being.

e\/e+++ "...well well, if it isn't the f*&kheads from earlier..." Stephan hissed at the guards, pretty much nullifying any hopes for a peaceful resolution as he readied his sword.

^_^ Oh Stephan, I *knew* he could care if he tried hard enough... Midoku thought to himself, smiling as the pair got ready for action.

Star stood up and pushed the guard away, then drew his rapier. He heated up as the attention of the guards focused on him. He swallowed hard and stuttered

"Y-you heard him, he's not going. And you're not going to k-kill me, or m-my friends."

They weren't really his friends yet, but it sounded better.

While pansy boy was giving some lame speech about 'friends' and other crap, Stephan was busy chanting.

-\/- " Winds from the north, encase my foes in the burning cold..." The Dark Knight chanted, aiming a palm at the nearest guard.

o\/o "BLIZZARA!!"

A blast of cold air flew from his hand, straight for the nearest guard...

Stephan's blizzara hit the second guard straight on, encasing his body in a large block of ice.

Meanwhile, Dan's attack managed to penetrate the first guard's armour and cause a rather nasty scratch on his shoulder. "You!" the man growled, slicing at Dan's head with his sword.

The attack was fortunately a little bit off, and the only damage Dan recieved was a shallow cut across his cheek.

(Guard 2 is frozen for one turn, unless he's attacked by someone. I'm damage counting mainly by dice and a healthy bit of bias, just so you know now.)

Deciding to capitalize on Kotoki's attack, Midoku cupped his hands before his chest, closing his eyes and concentrating. As he chanted, his voice sounding more like grunts and snarls then actual words, a ball of fire began to spark and ignite between his hands. As the magic crackled and grew in size, eventually filling the space between his hands, he finally brought his hands down and back. Midoku's eyes finally opened, seeming to burn with the same intensity of the spell in his hands.

O\/O "FLAMETHROWER!!!!"

As he shouted, he thrusted both hands forward, sending a massive stream of flames from his palms toward the guard...

The man was entirely immersed in flames, which didn't really effect him until his armour started to heat up. He hopped around screaming and trying to put it off. Finally tearing the last piece away from his skin, he stood only in a shirt and pants- with several very nasty looking burns.

The second guard merely stodd encased in ice.

Gigra!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Sat Jun 15, 2002 11:08 am

Jak had been chuckling up to this point. Anyone fool enough to challenge a black mage in metal armor deserved what he was about to get. And even if he didn't, Jak didn't care.

Cupping his hands together in front of him, he chanted a few arcane words, little meaning in them by themselves, but they served to enforce his will. As he uttered the final syllable he thrust his hands forward, concentrating a normally wide spread of electrical destruction into a single beam, directing it at the conductive Armour of the third guard.

Kraken being a thief never played fair and thinking one of those quaint little bar fights had started brought his knee up between the third guards legs.
Hearing chanting behind him he looked blearily over his shoulder to see a flash of electricity fly towards him and he just managed to fall sideways in time. He noticed that it was some green guy who did this to him and if he could be arsed to get up that green guy would be next on the hit list.

Yes! Overly long combat monologue!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Sat Jun 15, 2002 6:43 pm

Jak turned around, a cold glare meeting the guard.

"You still breath, and yet you remain? You are the stupidest people I've ever met. We have beaten you flat within seconds, and yet you still stand to face more?"

"Run for your lives, pathetic maggots," he sneered "for this bitch queen of yours will have a hard time killing a running man. I, on the other hand, will not."

To emphasise this point, his right hand crackled to life with electrical energy, the mage gathering himself up, trying to appear as menacing as he could to the guardsmen.

Kotoki

...wow!

Unread postby Kotoki » Sat Jun 15, 2002 7:23 pm

The first guard snarled. "I'd rather be killed here than face the queen if I fail."

The second guard, however, appeared to have no such objections. He heaved the fallen man over his shoulder and turned tail out of the inn.

Brandon bit his lip and blinked at the guard. "Don't talk about her that way!" he yelled, running forward and hitting the man over the head with his harp.

Surprisingly enough, the harp split the helmet in two and rendered the guard unconcious on the floor. "Sorry..." murmured Brandon to the man.

o.o Spoony! He clocked him good!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Sat Jun 15, 2002 8:52 pm

Jak, rather than looking smug as he usually did after winning a fight, looked plain confused. Firstly, Brandon seemed upset that the guard had insulted the queen. What was even more surprising was that he'd managed to clock the armoured guard with a harp.

Of course, the first bit began to make a little more sense when he remembered that the guards had said that they were royal guards. Even though Jak wasn't quite as smart as other mages, he had no trouble putting two and two together.

"Alright, your majesty or whatever, do you mind explaining all of this now?" he said, talking at the back of the victorious bard.

"Naah. How would that help my reputation?" Devon said glumly. He then brightened up. "You think I could just, like, spit on him when he regains consciousness? Material for the ballad, you know."

As if on some sort of cue, the door was suddenly flung open by a figure in chainmail. His manner seemed to say: 'Yes, I'm flinging thet door open. Why wouldn't I?'
He then looked at the scene before him.
"Apologies." said Ashrem sarcastically. "Mine own assumption was that this would serve as a place for lodgings, as opposed to a common dueling arena. Couldst the soul least involved in the depravity enlighten me as to the location of the inn? No doubt it will prove to be advertised as an arena."

"So, mummy and daddy dearest sent their royal guard after their run away son. Which, unless this country has some backwards government, makes you a Prince, correct?"

He paced around to Brandons side, far from done with the weakling.

"Of course, there are a few details that I can't deduce myself. Such as who this "special" person is, and why you've sought out Kotoki here." His tone took a sharp hike down into clear aggression, the notion of some Southern ponce causing Kotoki and himself grief not pleasing the mage one little bit.

Ashrem sat down, and played a few notes on his bardic lute. This could conceivably make a good ballad. Then he noticed Devon.
"Whyfore dost thy face appear on the Wanted posters in this establishment's doorway?" Ashrem asked.
"Huh?" said Devon. "Oh, right. That was my idea. I'm rather proud of it."
"Thou hast placed thine own image to be tracked by those seeking fortune?" said Ashrem disbelievingly.
"Yeah, sort of. It's easier than just going up to them and TELLING them I'm a legendary outlaw."
"Thy logic appears unfathomable." said Ashrem.
"Well, if I don't tell them I'm a legendary outlaw somehow, then how would they know?" Devon explained, as if it was obvious.
