Brandon looked up and smiled weakly. "Like Mr. Midoku said... I'm from the south. A country called Therney. You've probably never heard of it... What about you...?"

Meanwhile, Kotoki sighed and turned to the customer. "Sorry aout that... There'll be some fresh in a little bit."

"Me?" Molo said, walking back, taking the tea off and pouring some with the other hand. He slid the cup down the bar while he walked back to Brandon. "Well, I come from a place called Sushiana. But. . .everyone's gone." he said, pacing around nervously. "Ah well. . .that's boring." he smiled once again up at Brandon. "It's nice to see a new face around here!! Later tonight, we could hit the town. I know all the best resturants!" he chuckled, happily bouncing from oven to oven, checking all the food.

Devon walked over to the table with Dan and Brandon.
"j0." he said. "I'm new to this city. D'you know where there's a map?"

Brandon shook his head timidly. "Sorry..." he replied. "I don't have any maps, and I don't know if anyone has... I'm new here too."

"I think I have one somewhere!" yelled Kotoki from across the bar. "If you give me a few minutes I can go upstairs and dig it out!"

"I don't have a map either, but I come from somewhere north of here." Star drummed his fingers on the bar, and adjusted his coat a bit. "I came down to Doma because my dad reckoned that I could do well in the city. We don't live that far away y'know?"

Jak had calmed down after Kotoki's reminder that frying inn staff wasn't good business. All the same, he scowled at 'Dan as he stalked off upstairs, going to find some clean clothes.

Molo eyed Jak warily as he ascended the stairway, unintentionally burning himself on the stove. "AAH! OW!!"

...and 'pompous'... Midoku thought to himself, along with other not-so nice sediments about Jak. ...perhaps I'll just drop that line of thinking for now...

The pair went to a nearby table, both taking a seat and waiting for Kotoki or 'Dan to take their order. As he watched Stephan, however, he noticed that he wasn't glaring at Jak for once.

<\/< Stephan was staring daggers into the back of the blond bard from the south.

>.>? How odd... I wonder why he's so upset with Mr. Brandon?

<.>? ...I hope it's not because of him being a bard, having a lovely voice for song is a wonderful gift...

<.<? What else could it be...? Midoku thought.

<\/<++ Psh... making all 'nice' with everyone, BAH! Stephan grumbled to himself, You don't fool me one bit, you little b*&ch. Lay even one *FINGER* on Midoku and you're gonna get it...

Brandon sneezed and meeped nervously. Someone in the room didn't like him very much.

Kotoki, hopping over the counter and to Stephan and Midoku's table, smiled at them both. "What would you like? We've got some specials today, I think, and Dan just went out and got some sweedish fish. They're these chewy candy things."

"You wish." scowled Jak, standing on the stairs in a clean set of robes.

"Still, your squid's not all that bad." he said, walking down the stairs and past Brandon, picking a piece of squid off his plate and popping it into his mouth.

"Anyway," he continued, swallowing the squid and turning to Brandon, "you said you came from a place called "Therney?" Never heard of it myself, and I've been a fair bit South."

Of course he was lying. Jak hadn't even been to Nekonia, let alone the far Souther countries.

"So, where might this place be exactly?"

Molo stared at Jak and Brandon. . .he had a feeling that Jak was lying. . .he had never told him about his 'adventures'. . .but, the aura coming from Jak. . .it was the same as from Brandon. . .could it be possible? Were they both lying??

He had a natural knack to sense peoples' intentions. . .he didn't know it, but it was that foolish innocence he carried deep within himself. Brandon. . .who exactly is he? And what does he have to do with Kotoki?

Brandon, looking decidedly scared of Jak, bit his lip. "I don't know..." he almost whimpered. "I honestly don't know..."

Kotoki, coming back to the bar counter, sighed and shook her head. "Jak! He didn't expect the Doman inquisition, you know. It's not very nice to scare the customers."

Kraken toppled backwards of his chair yet deftly managed to save his drink, in that sudden burst of co-ordination which drunkards sometimes display but leaves them totally unable to do anything afterwards. Kraken clambered back onto his bar stool and then proceeded to fall asleep on the table top.

(Occ: I promise Ill never introduce a character drunk again ok...I swear...no really...^_^ )

Jak, after spending a moment staring in bemusement at the drunken thief, turned to Kotoki.

"Well, it's bloody suspicious, don't you think? According to 'Dan here he's looking for you, and you don't even know him. Now, I'm not saying that he's trouble..."

He turned back round, glaring at the bard.

"But mysterious strangers looking for someone usually are."

Devon shrugged.
"I don't see the problem. This bard is obviously on the run from the law, why not leave it at that? And even I've heard of this inn, so one whose profession hinges on lore would have heard of it as well."
Devon took a swig of ale, or would have, had the tankard not been empty. The result was that he ended up looking quite stupid, and he quickly shoved the tankard aside.
"I'm not saying you're paranoid." he said to Jak. "But the magical arts often do have effects on the mind, I've heard."

Jak turned slowly to face Devon. His mental stability was a very touchy subject, especially on the topic of paranoia.

"Well, you've obviously heard wrong," he scowled, "and I suggest you watch your words from now on, before they land you in trouble." He finished, a threatening tone to his words.

Kotoki started laughing. The whole situation was really quite bizzare, and it didn't seem that things would be getting more normal anytime soon.

"Don't get mad." she whispered at Jak. "Not good for business, right?"

Brandon just ate his squid quietly. He'd been shifted out of the attention focus and he certainly wasn't going to do anything to re establish the position.

Kotoki, being the only person that Jak ever let advice his actions, had caused Jak to calm down. The fact that she knew what he had in mind for Devon bothered him slightly though. Then again, that was what he always had in mind for people he didn't like.

So he remained quiet, no thread of conversation to pick up on.
