"...Goddamnit. Y'know, wind-riding about this damned place would be SO much fun...but...oh well."
He sighed, and kicked the ground.
"Can we just learn how to use the bloody well weapons now?"

Just what we need - a Neo Vane mage with high tech weapons from the future. Then again, given the sort of people who'd wound up with those same weapons on the other side, how could Nagan possibly be worse? Why do I have this nagging suspicion I'm going to find out?

"Might as well," he said aloud.

Phoenix nodded. "Okay, I'll take you there."

They hopped back into the car, and poked along to another room. This room was long, and had several round targets at the back of it. The room was separated into lanes, each one with a screen in it, and a little white line to let the gun users know if they went too far.

"Now, let me show you some of our weapons." Phoenix strolled over to a weapons rack, and pulled out one of them. It was larger than most weapons, and had an elongated barrel. The middle was larger than the others, too, and had a little handle at the top. "This is the J74-K8421, but we call it the J74 for short. It's a fully automatic weapon, that is, holding down the trigger will let out a constant stream of bullets. This thing eats ammo like a bitch, though." She walked over to another rack, this one with square boxes. She grabbed one. "This is an ammo clip. Just place it here..." she stuck it in the bottom, "and pull back this." The gun cocked itself. Phoenix moved to one of the lanes, and pointed the gun at the target.

"Now, all you have to do is point, and shoot." she aimed it, and pulled the trigger. Several small "bangs" resounded, and the screen near her lit up, showing a representation of the target. There was a small hole in the dead center of the target, and one or two were an inch away, but it was no denying: she had dead on aim.

"That's how it's done, boys." She grinned. "Now, we do have some other guns here." She pulled a few out. "Now, this here is the PZ4, it's also got a silencer, so it doesn't make noise." she indicated a small pistol. "It doesn't have as much stopping power, though. And this is the AV33. This fully automatic weapon can also be silenced. Whatever one you choose is up to you."

The Training

Zukath was again amazed. A weapon so simple... but yet, he wasn't sure how well he could use it. And Phoenix hadn't distinctly mentioned a little practice with the weapons already.

"And I'm assuming we get a little time to practice our aiming here? To be honest, I don't want to end up accidentally hurting someone on our side."

"Of course. I would fear for my men and I's saftey if a person who had never fired a gun before was rattling off in front of Relti. Not good. Just take a gun, take some ammo, and find a target."

Zukath nodded, taking another look at the weapons. After a while, he made up his mind.

He pulled out a J74 from the weapon rack, then went ahead and picked up an ammo clip before heading to another of the lanes. He waited to load the ammo clip in UNTIL he was actually at the lane.

Zukath then stepped up to the line, standing just behind it and pointing the rifle at the target. Taking several moments to aim, he held his breath... and a few thoughts ran through his head.

Phoenix has had such practice with this... my aim's probably going to be horrible.... and what does it feel like after someone fires one of these.... "guns"?

He pulled the trigger, hoping for the best.

The gun bursted off a three round burst. The recoil was pretty weird, and it caused the gun to bounce about. The first one registered on the screen as hitting the far edge of the target. The second one, however, was jarred by the recoil, and smacked the wall. The last shot was controlled somewhat, and smacked about six inches from the first one, though still at the edge.

"Now, each clip has about 15 shots, so be careful. And the longer you hold down the trigger, the more shots are fired. The recoil will screw you up, so don't ever shoot more than three, unless you think you've got it well enough."

"Right, gimme one o' each," Pervy says, "Lemme get th' feel fer these bastards."

He had used pistols once in awhile, but for the most part he wasn't that great with them. The cutlass was far more his style, and he liked cannons when it came to guns. Still, he suspected those automatic weapons were likely a bitch to aim, given the massive amount of recoil they muct have. So, he suspected he would be keeping to pistols for the time being.

The lizardman looked at where the shots had ended up. Seeing two of the three shots register on the target brought a feeling of surprise - he hadn't expected any of them to hit on his first try.

That's better aim than I could have even predicted for someone like me....

Zukath lowered the gun after a few moments, pointing the firing end toward the ground, before turning his body halfway toward Phoenix.

Hmmm... fifteen bullets in one of these ammo... 'clips'... and I've used three already. Not what I was hoping for in something like this. Probably should keep a mental track of how many I've used.

"Guess I'd better stick with the three round bursts, then. It'd probably take me years to get used to the kick - rather, the 'recoil' as you've put it - of one of these well enough to go for more than three, and we don't quite have THAT long. Though I'll admit, for the very first time firing this gun, I think I did fairly well."

Nagan hmmed, and took a look at a pistol. After all, he'd used staffs in the middle of windstorms, so how hard could a bit of recoil be?
He aimed a little below the target as best he could, and fired.

Having observed Zukath's showing, Kelne selected a J74 and a PZ4, loading the larger weapon. It would be nice to be on the dealing end of this sort of firepower for once. There had been times when he'd felt as if he might as well not be carrying his sword at all.

Right then, brace the end against the shoulder, line it up with the target, nice steady stance, and... fire.

The recoil was too much for Nagan, and his bullet flew into the air, smacking well ABOVE the target.

However, Kelne had a good idea about him, and his three shots were good. One managed to hit the inner ring, the second hit the outer ring, and the last one nicked the top.

"I think I'll be using this sucker at close range, but..."
This time, he put one hand on top of the pistol, and tried again.

Zukath was now considering switching weapons, just to get the hang of them. He headed away from the lane he was in, gun pointed down at all times, and went over to the weapon rack. Paying attention to anything said to him, he now reached over and seemed intent to take a pistol from the weapon rack. He looked uncertain as to where he should put the other gun.

"Anywhere special you want me to put this gun, Phoenix, once I'm done practicing with it?" Zukath asked, suggesting the J74 he was holding with his right hand and arm.

Pervy first experiemnt was with the J47. Learning from other's mistakes. he clasped the butt of the gun under arm, rather than resting it on his shoulder. He knew that he would lose accuracy from having nothing to sight along, but he guessed that he would gain enough control to make up for it.

As he unleashed a streamof bullets at the target, he suspected that he would not need to be extremely accurate.

Alash picked up one of the guns and examined it curiously. He'd heard a bit about the things, but had never actually gotten ahold of one. Tight fisted Valthi bastards always charge so much. I hear Doma has one of these... had... dammit.

Alash turned towards where the targets were ,hoping he had the thing in-hand right.... and pulled the trigger.

"Probably good enough to bring someone down," Kelne mused, "Still, practice makes perfect." Or, at least, better. So saying, he went through the clip in a series of bursts, seeing if he could cut down on the effects of the recoil.

Pervy's gun rattled around, flying this way and that, spraying out all 15 bullets in the clip.

Phoenix watched this, and chuckled a bit when it was done. "Don't hold the gun like that. If you do, the gun will shoot everywhere. Though you didn't do TOO bad. You got a bullseye on that target." She pointed over to Kelne's target.

Kelne, however, had hit it right on the edge of a bullseye and the innermost ring. He knew what he was doing, and was doing it much better than the others, who at best only hit the middle ring.

(Kelne officially gains 1 rank of the skill Firearms(advanced). This skill can go backwards to cover any current weaponry in Gaera, as well as the newer types.)

The room was solid, no way that Nameless could escape. His cellmate looked up. "Well, you going to say anything? Don't bother trying to escape. It's impossible. I've tried."

Nameless seemed to ignor his cell mate and looked at the bars at the door. Well he had to try something. Checking around, and making sure no guards were nearby, he got out his claws and slashed at the door, hoping to cut through them.

Nagan hmmed.
"What exactly am I doing wrong here, though? Shouldn't be THAT hard..."

He then tried to account for the recoil by aiming the gun significantly below the target, and using both hands.

Nameless merely nicked his claws on the metal bars. They weren't even close to cut. The cellmate looked at him. "Now, why do you have claws? Nobody I've ever met had claws..."

Phoenix turned to Nagan. "Okay, you're doing okay. But try holding the gun like...this." She came from behind, gripping the gun in Nagan's hands, and moving his hands about. "Here you go. There, that should be better. Try shooting." She stepped back a bit.

Nagan nodded.
"Right...now, let's see..."
He blinked, and realized something.
"On second thought, I've got a better idea. Can you make a quarterstaff into a gun? Because I think I'd be more...dramatic were my staff shooting bullets. "

Nameless sighed, this would be a lot tougher then he thought. There was little he could do now it seemed which was very frustrating. Not being able to do magic was suddenly rather annoying indeed.

He turned to his cell mate and just looked at him. He could do little at the moment. Maybe he would start mouthing off some info as people seemed to do when stared at silently.

Guess not...

Zukath seemed a bit dismayed. Yet, he decided not to wait. He picked up a PZ4 pistol, went over and took one of the ammo clips for it, and then went over to the firing lane.

Setting the J74 down nearby, Zukath went ahead and loaded the pistol. Stepping up to just before the firing line, he took aim with it, holding it with both hands to prevent himself from dropping it, and then pulled the trigger.

He aimed again at the center and fired the pistol three more times, staying focused on the center of the target. He was watching where his shots tended to go.

Zukath's shots began to get closer to the center, his aiming becoming more reliable.

(Zukath also gains 1 rank of firearms.)

"We COULD do that..." Phoenix nodded. "But it wouldn't be able to kill anybody. Is that okay?"

"I'll keep that in mind," Pervy says, tossing aside the Automatic in favor of the pistol. These, he knew a bit about. Smokey Jay, his ship's gunner, used matchlocks all the time.

Lining up with the target, he aimed along the barrel, and fired.

Kelne nodded, satisfied. Of course, if he actually wound up firing this weapon, the mission would probably have gone badly wrong. With that in mind, he switched to the pistol, loading it.

Holding it in both hands and sighting along the barrel, Kelne fired several bullets at the target. A pity he couldn't experiment with enchanting bullets, but any magic use was a sure way to bring the authorities down on their heads.

Re: ..

Zukath felt rather satisfied that his aim was improving. However, he realized that something the size of a pistol was probably going to be insufficient for what his role was. Plus, there was something nagging him about what Phoenix had said regarding fully automatic fire.

I know how bad the recoil is on a short burst... but what about on full automatic?

Thus, he set the pistol down, taking up the J74 again and re-aiming it at the target. Taking a few moments to brace himself, he held in his breath as he fired it, this time holding the trigger down.

Phoenix thought. "Well, it would be enough to kill a bird, but just barely."

Pervy's shots were getting better too. He hit the bullseye, actually. Phoenix looked up for a second. "Very good! Now you're getting the hang of it!"

(Pervy gains a rank.)

Phoenix, however, was tapping her foot. "We gotta get moving. Now, I know most of you aren't ready yet, but I can supply some instruction on the way. Can we go?"
