"Nowthen, what do we know 'bout th' place? Got any maps? How many troops 'e got there? How many civilians? Any o' yer kids wit' 'em?"

Phoenix grabbed another piece of paper. "We have one operative inside the base. It's known as a "camp," where they keep traitors and mages before they're killed. Usually, though, they just get killed INSIDE the camp, unless they're a high profile prisoner. A few of our top operatives were captured, and are currently in the camp, as well as a few mages that might be useful." She got back in the car. "I can brief you better if we go to the tactical room. Hop in, please."

"Right," Pervy says. Now that Phoenix had wrapped her mind around the idea of not using magic to wipe out people not involved with this, she was starting to think sense. Thus, he complied with her request.

Zukath was just starting to calm down at this point. He had been getting angry at Pervy until he had been less against Phoenix, even if for just the moment.

Zukath got back in the car, in the same seat as before.

Nagan got in. Amazing what you could do without magic. But that was hardly the issue. The issue now was to find out to do stuff, and do it well.

The car arrived at a camp after a few hours, Nameless saw. It was dull grey in construction, metal in all its forms. The entrance was guarded by several mean-looking guards, with the fully automatic weapons. They drove by, the guards watching. After a few minutes, the men arrived at a barracks.

"This is a mage-guy. So, throw him in the mage cells."

The soldier nodded, and forced Nameless along. They patted him down for weapons, and one of them looked under the hood. In an instant, he jumped back in fear.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?"

The other soldiers took a look at Nameless' face. Several actually let loose their lunches at the site. However, one kept his composure. "Just throw him in."

They chucked Nameless into a cell, and two guards stood outside. Nameless could feel all touch with the astral drain from him, his magics blocked. Another person was in the cell, and looked up. "Welcome to Butcher's World, mage." His look was weary. "Guaranteed to have the time of your life." He sighed.

Phoenix and the others took off, reaching another room quickly. "Okay, we're here. I'll get you all informed, then we need to train you guys." She got out, and began talking to an officer, standing near another screen.

"Umm, okay... this looks... interesting," answered Alash a bit nervously. He looked from Pervy to the ground, seeming to avoid Pervy's question as best he could manage.

Nagan hmmed, and took out his staff.
"Hey, Pervy, how do you think I should do the posing? Spin first, or hop first? I mean, I can get the last two. That's obviously a spin, hop, but I can't figure out what I should do for the first one. And if I'm going to be using weapons like this, I need to know how I'm going to do it properly. No, I won't do it every time I use it, but it's..the principle of the matter, y'know?"

Nameless nodded to his cell mate and looked around his cell. To be caught again and have no chance of escaping? Such an annoying fate indeed. This camp was a travestry, showing the ill of men at its highest, to seperate there own into sections just cause of small differences.

And they had been sick when they saw him? How often Nameless wanted to show his disgust of them with such visibility.

Putting thought of that matter aside, Nameless did the obvious thing and looked around his cell and at his cell "mate", seeing the situation he had been brought to.

Kelne had been fairly quiet during the tour, preferring to simply absorb the information he was presented with, but this just couldn't be let slide by.

"Nagan, if I catch you spinning about and making dramatic gestures with a loaded firearm, particularly in a mission which requires stealth... Well, you won't like what I'll do. The accepted procedure is 'point and shoot.' Flashy stuff is far better suited to a diversionary role."

All things considered, he wasn't too happy with the situation. This whole thing smacked to him of a test. What better way to find out just what the mages were capable of than to send them into an incredibly dangerous situation? Unfortunately, as their only remotely friendly contact in this time, Phoenix held all the cards.

Besides, what better way to find out just what these 'Reltians' were made of than to put them in an incredibly dangerous situation? He'd have to take their measure sooner or later, and it might as well be now.

"T' get somethin' done," Pervy answers. "Y'see, th' point tis t' get in an' out wit'out them knowin' ye were there. That scares th' piss outta them that much more. Because, then ye can say that ye used magic, an' they didnae see it."

Privately, he wondered just how good of a guard captain Kelne would turn out to be. At this rate, he was definately going to get an offer.

Changing the title...

Postby Banjooie » Thu Mar 27, 2003 6:22 pm

Nagan blinked.
"Hm...so what you're suggesting is that somehow, being less dramatic can have the same negative effect on morale as being dramatic, if not more so?"
He stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Well..sounds a bit strange, but okay. There's still something undeniably wrong about the whole idea.

Zukath also kept himself quiet. Rather than get involved in what Pervy and Nagan were talking about, he paid more attention to his own thoughts. Including those of Phoenix.

She's been so tolerant... even considering the situation she's in, she hasn't said a lot of bad things.... But... what do they see that makes me resemble a dragon?? I thought lizardmen would truly be better known around this place....

Phoenix looked up, and pointed to the screen, which became a map. "This is the infamous "Butcher's World," where Relti keeps his prisoners before they're killed. It's a work camp, so usually, they don't even make it that far. We have lost several operatives to Relti recently, and we believe they are still alive and still trapped in this camp. Now, I think we should split into two groups. A and B." On the map, two colored circles appeared. Phoenix pointed to the green circle. "This is group A, which will be led by me. we'll provide a diversionary attack while group B," she pointed to the blue circle, "can sneak in the back entrance. Remember, stealth is key here. If they realize they've been infiltrated, they'll break off their defenses to get group B. Killing is okay, but not necessary. Group B will be led by..." she looked at a sheet, and her eyes widened. "Okay. Someone explain this to me. Your DNA testing came back, and YOU," she pointed to Pervy, "Are none other than the former Captain of the Doman Guard, Captain Aliester Purvis."

Alash looked at Pervy at this announcement and then back to Phoenix. Looks... quite serious about this... So. This guy's the captain of the Doman army huh? Giving Pervy a look that was half-admiration and half-apprehension, he wondered if, perhaps, this proclamation had some hidden meaning.

"Aye, that I am, and ain't no former 'bout it. I'm Captain til Chuck, Aya, 'r Elle tell me t' piss off." Pervy states.

"Anyway, what have we around th' place?" Pervy looks at the map. In particular, he wants to see where the camp was located. Having it in a civilized region and having it in the middle of a woods required a different approach. qand if he could improve the rebel's plans, all the better.

Phoenix mulled this over. "...okay. You said why, and though it does sound odd, it would explain SOME things. Okay, the base is out in the middle of nowhere. Relti Capitol City is at least an hour by car, so no civilians will be around, if you're wondering. The fortifications aren't that bad, but they aren't the best in the world. It also features several smaller versions of the Magic Block, so that mages can be held there." She pointed to an entrance. "Team B enters here, neutralizing the guards, and moving to here," she pointed to a cell block. "There, you'll free the prisoners, and if possible, free the mages, located here." She circled another cell block. "Now, remember. Stealth is the key here. Any questions?"

"What sort of diversion are we talking about here?" Kelne asked simply, "And how many people are we going to be rescuing?" Getting out would be considerably more difficult with a large crowd in tow.

On the plus side, it didn't sound like anyone stayed in there long enough to become emaciated. They wound up dead long before that. So they'd be able to move under their own steam.

Nagan chuckled, then hmmed.
"Sooo...what you're saying is that you need somebody to sneak in badly enough to be caught, then proceed to make a gigantic scene impressive enough to take a great deal of guards by surprise and distract them. I do believe I should be on Group A, somehow. However, I'm wondering if you have anything to make gunshots quieter for group B. Because I imagine they may want them. Now, let's see. Basing on whom looks the most impressive..."

He looked at the group. "I'll be wanting Zukath to come with me. I suppose you can, Phoenix, but what I'm thinking here is that you should be the one to go on group B. I could go with, say, Kelne. Since you know the mages, and that'll save group B a lot of "Who are you?" time. Which we're going to need, because I can't make a good show last forever."

He hmmed again. "I figure that I can reasonably make ourselves look rather deadly and brutish. This does mean, Zukath, you'd have to play a fairly mindless beast. It'll get 'em all the better especially if you start talking at the last second."

And on a last note... "Kelne, I'm sure you love the idea of sneaking around much better, but when you realize that you'll be standing BEHIND me somewhat, since I'm the guy who looks the most like a mage, I think you may be a little safer than stuck with Pervy, especially once they start ringing whatever it is they've got for alarm bells around here."

Well, he went ahead and said it already.

Zukath, finding that Pervy had been forced to tell what he was going to say, now looked at Nagan. It was as if the wind mage had read the lizardman's mind.

How many lizardmen has this guy met? Because he seems to know what they're good at.

"Right on, Nagan. That's the kind of thing lizardmen tend to be best at. And personally, I would RATHER be with group A. I KNOW I'm not that good at sneaking around, to be perfectly honest. But as for ideas on distractions, I don't know what would work best."

"...and my tendency to think everyone directs all their negatives at me comes out again," Zukath muttered. "I don't understand why every statement about not knowing something seems to come through to me as a real bad thing." He hated the fact that he felt he had been misled. This feeling tended to happen to him a lot.

What I would give to NOT have a past that made me suspect everything negative was aimed at me...

Kelne pondered for a few moments, "You're quite right, Nagan. I would far rather be on the group doing the sneaking around. It is, after all, one of my areas of expertise." In fact, the operation carried a distinct sense of deja vu for him, being quite similar to an occasion when he had snuck into a Valthi fort under cover of magical distractions.

"I'm quite confident in your ability to cause a distraction without my aid. Just remember that you have to get away again afterwards."

"On that subject," he said, turning to Phoenix, "I think it would be a good idea if you had people on hand to cover the withdrawal of both parties.

The Plan

Postby Uncle Pervy » Fri Mar 28, 2003 8:53 pm

"Two problems, Nagan" Pervy says. "First, ye can't use magic lest ye wanna get us all blown t' hell an' back. Think about it. They'll hit people they already conquered, what th' hell makes ye think they won't wipe out a base wit' people they already hate in it. So yer magic's out lest ye wanna kill us all.

"Second off, we gotta make this look right. There be a fine line 'tween makin' 'em think yer breakin' in an' lookin' too suspicious fer yer own good.

"Now, this tis my place. Firstly, ye kids take one o' them metal carts an' drive it up t' th' gates. An' load th' fucker up wit' as much gunpowder as ye got. Now, they're gonna get suspicious an' try t' arrest ye, right? So yer boys pile out th' cart, then set t' powder off. BOOM! Their front gate's gone! Now, they'll be thinkin' its fer real. Now, ye get a few o' yer boys out there wit' th' best guns ye got, givin' coverin' fire.

Best part is, if this works right... Ye actually do break in th' front, while th' rest hit th' back. Give then fuckers a two front war an' make 'em surrender!"

The pirate grinned a bit, recalling when he did something like this in a port at Inustan a few years ago.

Phoenix nodded. "That's a damn good idea. Now, I dunno about gunpowder, but I know we have several bombs at our disposal, so that can work out just as well. All in favor of this plan?" Several others standing in the room raised their hands, or grunted approval.

"What about you boys?" she asked the group.

Zukath considered this plan. He wasn't into causing terror like this normally, but this was a desperate situation. He decided to go along with it, even against his better judgement.

"I'm for it. Seems to be rather effective, which is what we'd need for something like this."
