"Somethin'n wit' 'nough gunpowder t' choke a dragon," Pervy calls back, his ears catching Zukath's question.

Zukath got enough of an explanation from Pervy that another question came to his head. But first, to get going.

"Yeah, let's just get moving."

Zukath then hurried to catch up to Pervy, ready to ask his question. He sounded confused and somewhat in shock - he didn't know much about gunpowder, except what it usually was used for.

"But... but how would someone even GET that much gunpowder to begin with?"

Pervy gives Zukath a grin, then says, "Ye dun visit th' coast much, do ye? There's enough Gunpowder in Doma's Fleet t' make a good-sized isle sink. Y'see, most o' th' ships use cannons nowadays, if they ain't got mages. And sea mages ain't common.

"What I'm wonderin', now, is how they got so much in thing as small as that... whatever th' hell twas that hit that village. Maybe they go some powder they refined th' hell outta 'r somethin'?"

Zukath was still confused. Now Pervy was talking in terms he couldn't quite understand, and Pervy, if he were to simply look in Zukath's eyes, could see this. This lizardman was not exactly a wellspring of knowledge, even IF he was smarter than the norm for his kind.

"Haven't got a clue, since I know very little about gunpowder and whether refining it is possible."

Nagan followed along.
"Right. Can we decide on how to look ostentatious and how we're all going to look...inconspicuous....if need be?"

"I honestly have no idea where to begin, Nagan. I doubt anyone could render a group like this inconspicuous." Kelne surveyed his companions as he walked, "As individuals, we're probably not too bad, but together..."

He shrugged simply, "Added to that, we know almost nothing about the people we'll be wanting to blend in with. Let's hold off on the issue until we know more, alright?"

His annoyance with Pervy was set aside for the moment, if not forgotten. No sense in infighting at this point.

Nagan nodded.
"Right. Face it, guys, we are never going to look unimportant. Not any of us. We're going to have to ham it up and hope for the best."

"Tell you what - you ham it up, I'll find a good spot to observe from and see if you get away with it." The mere thought of Nagan attempting subterfuge brought with it a sensation of impending doom.

Nameless looked at the group and, within the confinds of his hood, smiled grimly. These people were loud and so full of themselves that he'd not have to worry about them asking him any questions at all, if they'd ever even notice he was here.

Even if this was amusing it was getting him no where, and so Nameless walked of to the front and headed down towards where the strange object of destrucion had seemily come from. Someone or something must have 'fired' it, and they could destroy a village without reason or notice and such a thing was wrong.

Nagan looked at the black cloaked shape moving in the direction of the "Beamy thing of Death", as Nagan had decided to refer to it.
"Oy! Get back 'ere! We're not going that way. That way has nasty beams of death coming from it. We're going this way. The way with less nasty beams of death and more villagers we can scare supplies out of. You all can claim some moral high road, but we need to eat here."

"Well, water ain't gonna be a problem, I hope," Pervy says. "I can magic us up some when we need it. Assumin' somethin' bout this place dun mess it up."

He then looks back the to consumed Lizardman and says, "Ships use cannons, so ye find a lotta powder by the coast, aye?"

All the while continuing down the road.

If Nameless could talk, he wouldn't have anyway. That man had put himself near the top of people he'd rather not meet again, and he was above pychotic mages. The man seemed to enjoy giving out fear and Nameless did not. The people who had that weapon were this way, so thats where Nameless was going.

And so Nameless continued on without even looking back.

Hrm.

Postby Banjooie » Wed Mar 19, 2003 2:55 pm

Nagan sighed.
"...I suppose, if it gets DOWN to it, in a pinch, I can at least hide our scents from animals. But let's be reasonable. If we hide we're mages, we still have no money we can spend anything on. If we don't, we can demand whatever the hell we want. I'm sure that no matter what's going on, somebody has a defense from the beam guys, because otherwise, there would BE NO MAGES LEFT. And if there were no mages left, nobody'd know about them, nor fear them. Thus, we need to find whomever can stop that beam, and use that as a stepping stone to get the hell out of here."

"Aye, Nagan's got a point..." Pervy agrees. "If they knew 'bout us, must be some mages out there somewhere...

"Wait a damned minute...

"I think I know how they found us... Magic got us 'ere, right? Maybe whoever blew up that damned village sensed it, that teleportation spell and whatnot, then used that thing t' try an' wipe out th' source?"

The sun was starting to set, and the air was slowly growing colder. If they didn't find a place to camp, or get going on their way, they were liable to freeze.

Meanwhile, Nameless continued on.

Nameless decided to press on where he was headed until the moon reached its highest point across the night sky, then he would "rest", as much as the circumstances allowed.

Perhaps I will discover where I have been taken tommorow, if I should not come across a small town to rest nearby tonight.

That weapon is a very powerful too, I would be intrested in seeing on who weilds it. This may be a clue to my origin somehow...

The trouble with his quest was Nameless knew it was helpless. Unless if one day blind fate would suddenly throw something his way, he has no clues as to what he actually is, or why he was here.

Nagan blinked.
"On the one hand, this means we can't cast magic. On the other hand...this means we automatically can destroy just about anything we want around here. Y'know, I'm starting to like this."

Re: *sniffs*

Zukath couldn't understand what Nagan was even THINKING when he said he was starting to like what was going on. This inability to understand was aggravated by the fact that it was getting colder around them. And, as those who knew lizards well would have guessed, lizardmen didn't tolerate cold weather too well.

The first thing that came from this was directed at Nagan. "If that's the case, we've got to find whoever's hating magic so much and stop them. I mean, being hated for magic is one thing, but what we saw happen to the village is just ridiculous."

Losing concentration, and shivering somewhat, Zukath then said to the group, "Look, can't we just find a place to camp for the night and worry about all this tomorrow? It's not like much worse things are going to happen anytime soon."

Nagan was flabbergasted. Did they not understand the sheer potential here? Why, all they had to do was use magic somewhere, and run like hell. They could be, like, omnipotent!
But, of course, these people were all about some bloody well good and morals. Bah. o.o Being kind to your fellow person was one thing, but this mainly had potential for threatening.
"Yes. Let's find the bloody well town, and avoid magic use. Unless, y'know, they start up an angry mob or something. o.o Think about it. The smallest spell around here essentially calls down a fiery maelstrom of death. I bet Ghaleon would have loved to have his hands on one of those suckers back in the day.."

Zukath was a bit confused at what Nagan had just said.

"Ghaleon? ....way you're putting it, he must've been some psychopathic mage. And while we're on that, how about we not even MENTION magic while anyone else not already here is around."

Nameless continued on his way, ignored by his peers, and perhaps it was better off this way. He traveled in the direction of the object that destroyed the town, as the moon rose on his right. It was a full moon that night. However, it started to get pretty cold. He couldn't continue on, unless he had something to warm him up.

The group continued on their way. But after some more time had passed, they hadn't seen anything of much value. Just when it seemed that it was over, their eyes came upon a forest. It wasn't large, but it was actually the only cover they had seen in a while. And the night was getting colder. MUCH colder.

"Who knows," answered Alash. "Maybe this is why they hate Mages... because they did somethin to the land or something."

Re: *sniffs*

Zukath was now clearly shivering. He hated cold nights... they seemed to affect him more than they did to other people.

Zukath first directed his words at Pervy. "If YOU think it's cold... well, at least you've got fur. Imagine how much worse it would be without it." Even though he wasn't blatantly saying it, Zukath was suggesting that he was suffering more under the cold than Pervy was.

Turning to Alash afterward, Zukath continued, "Might be that, but it seems to me more like something nastier occurred. I doubt it's just doing something to the land that would cause everyone to be so concerned about magic. Either way, if you don't count the explosive... whatever, this feels like my past, and I don't like it one bit."

"Aye, we'll have t' get a a right fire goin'" Pervy says to Zukath. "Dun need yer scales freezin' off 'r nothin'. Still, we gotta be careful. I'm thinking there's a reason folks ain't out here, and we ain't gonna like it."

He had come far enough in one night, it was time to start searching for something to make a fire with, if not, it looked like he's just going to sit through the night and have to take it.

He knew he wouldn't be able to keep it burning through the night if he slept but he'd be able to kep himself warm for long enough.

"Sensible enough," Kelne said, making for the woods. Anything which tried to mess with him tonight was going to seriously regret it. Nevertheless, it would regret it considerably more without the element of surprise, so Kelne kept an eye out as he entered the cover of the trees.

"Of course I have a flint. Along with a bottle of water and a small supply of food." Paranoia had its advantages. You were never caught out by the little things like spending a night in the wild with no access to magic.

Unfortunately, there was no planning for stuff like madmen with rocks sending you who knew where. Besides, there was only so much space in his pack, more was the pity.

As the group entered the forest, they found that there was suprisingly nobody in there. No madmen armed with rocks, no strange objects waiting to blow them up. Just quiet, which was nice.

Nameless found himself a nice log nearby. It seemed that there had been a tree that fell. Of course, the log wasn't on fire, or even remotely warm. But he could fix that real quick, he could.

"Bah, fires ain't hard," Pervy says, as he searches for a good spot to make camp;preferably one where a fire couldn't be seen easily in the distance. "If Kelne can't do it, I will.

"Th' real question tis food and drink. Likely a stream hereabouts, so th' drink bit ain't hard."

Pervy could hear the sounds of a stream trickling nearby to prove his suspicions. Other than that, there wasn't any food. The "forest" was much too small.

Zukath only cared about the 'drink' bit. Today was not the best day he had had - right now, the LAST thing on his mind was food.

"If you guys end up finding anything... don't bother giving me any food. This hasn't been the best day for me, and food isn't going to make it any better."

"Right then," Pervy says to the lizardman, he think he caught the name Zukath earlier. "If nothin' else, I got these here carrots in me pocket. Like t' save 'em fer me little girl, though."
