(OOC: I don't mind if you use the two names interchangably, C_C. Just take note (I've probably said this before, but I don't remember if I did) that I will almost always use the name "Richard" when I can.)

Richard once again evaluated his situation. He was fairly beat up, and so were his allies. Of course, a lucky dodge had gotten him out of the way of a sword thrust.

He felt it was time to fight back the same way. He brought his head back. Then, running (as best as a raven can run) towards the guard, he did his best to stop before the guard and use a well-aimed peck to harm him.

(OOC: Remember how we talked about having me give him a thrusting attack? Now I'm going to use it on Guard D.)

Richard, aware of his lack of success so far, may or may not have been surprised to see that he had taken down Guard D. There were still signs of life, of course, but the unconsciousness and the bloody gash were good indicators that Guard D would not be getting up again anytime soon.
The captain quickly bent down to staunch Guard D's wounds.

(Possible attack of opportunity from Richard.)

Richard indeed WAS surprised that he'd taken down the guard. Bending down a little and taking a deep breath, he saw that the captain had come to the guard to try and bind the guard's injuries.

Richard's thoughts didn't hit him very hard, but they gave him an idea. He's come right into it... he's given me the opening... now I have only one chance to silence him...

Satisfied with his chances, Richard now lunged out at the captain.

(OOC: Here we go again... another thrust. You know the target.)

The battle is OVER!

Unread postby RPGWWer ChronoCatfish » Mon Jul 15, 2002 7:19 pm

Richard felt a momentary surge of exultation as he tasted blood. The captain was hit! However, he appeared as though he could still withstand another attack, if only barely... until Enrik's rapier pierced through his stomach, splashing Richard and the one remaining guard with blood. The captain's corspe collapsed, the medallion that he had used to call up flames clattered to the ground. It was clear that the battle was over.

The last guard cowered in a corner... or rather, what was left of a corner, which wasn't much. It appeared the battle had wreaked devastation upon the tavern. Much of the flooring and furniture had already been reduced to ash. The front wall was gone, leaving, in what was presumably a joke in bad taste by some god or other, the door intact. Another section of the thatch roof fell in. The tavern patrons were cowering behind the counter.

(EXP awards will come shortly. Do not let the current lack detain you from your posting.)

Kraken seeing the medallion fall scrambled through the window and made a headlong dash for it across the floor.

The headlong dash was hardly neccessary, as the medallion was several feet away. However, Kraken grabbed it- and then dropped it in surprise. The medallion felt like it was burning! It appeared to be cooling off, though.
The guard attempted to edge away nonchalantly.

Richard, now breathing heavily from what could have easily been exhaustion, took some time to look at what his beak had done to the captain and the guard he was about to patch up. He felt as if he were on top of the world - an evil man had been brought down by his "hand", even if it had taken the hands of others to do it!

Then he looked at the one guard that had cowered after the captain went down. His eyes turned towards him in a stare that suggested the phrase "hold on a minute". And that's what Richard wanted to say. What came out of his mouth, however, was different, made all the more nerve-wracking by his voice, which was higher in tone and more like screeching than speaking, though it could be understood.

"Don't be such a wimp. Just come here and tell me what in the world you and the rest of your troupe were doing here, when you knew it was dangerous."

"Er..." said the guard fearfully, "All Lady Fanshen told us was that we were coming to arrest some miscreants. We didn't know..." his voice trailed off.
"You've gotten all the information he has." said Enrik boredly. "Now kill him, and have him as an example to the rest!"

Despite the fear in the guard's voice, Richard took notice of the name he spit out of his mouth. Lady Fanshen... judging by the actions the captain had taken, Richard assumed that Fanshen was evil herself.

"So she's the one after killing us all..."

But he took offense at what Enrik had said. He answered Enrik without turning away from the guard at all.

"If you want him dead, mister, why don't YOU kill him?"

"Then hold on a little longer. I have one more question."

Richard raised his right wing and brought it backward to 'tell' Enrik that he didn't want to hear more from him.

The 'last' question he asked the guard would have been a surprise to the group if Richard had been in his human form. "This Lady Fanshen you speak of... how well-trained are her guards, hmm?"

What Richard was really asking for was how well the Lady Fanshen was guarded.

Sarah huffed and stood up, with her wounds mostly healed, and still kind of ticked off.
Taking this chance, she sneaked to the side, just incase one of the guards were going to attack again, and by the looks of it it was more then likely.

"You guys? Elite squadron?? Don't make me laugh." Richard held back his laughter for a moment, but it was blatantly obvious that he took the statement as a joke. Of course, if he let this guy warn the others, he feared they may come back to kill him. He lowered his right wing.

"All right... he's served his purpose now." With this, Richard lunged out with the intent to slay the last guard.

(ANOTHER thrust. And, after this guard goes down (however long it takes and no matter who kills the guard), Richard is going to inspect what's left of the captain to see if he can take anything valuable (say, his armor if it's still in good condition and can be removed, his sword, and any money he has).)

Kraken saw the swing made by Richard he didn't know much about this guy but one things for sure he was an evil @#%$, and so was Enrik by the sounds of it. Not that he minded working for evil people (he'd never make a living if he didn't) but he'd better be careful where he tread he could make a lot of necessary enemies.

Seeing the guard dodge and go on the offensive he pulled out his two hand crossbows from the darkness inside his cloak and fired of the two bolts almost simultaneously before crouching down protectively over the amulet, that thing had to be worth some money.

The Guard wasn't expecting the crossbow shots, and so was quickly killed. Kraken noted that the amulet had stopped giving off heat and was probably safe to touch.
At that moment, Ilken and Griff arrived at the ruins of the tavern. Ilken surveyed the wreckage and the corpses and looked at the new additions to the group.
"I c'n see you're all gettin' right into th'job, but p'raps next time a bit o'subtlety may be in order."

Kraken's ears pricked up, he started moving determindly towards the exit using all the steath skills he could muster, trying to keep as inconspicuous as possible. This was going to be pretty difficult considering he was in the middle of the room.

Richard realized that, because of the form he was in, he could easily be in a bad position. Especially with Ilken and Griff coming in, because he didn't know them. He turned his head towards Ilken.

"Well, blame it on the others, mister. I certainly didn't do a thing to this place - I just got involved because the guards that came for us were rude."

Not letting his eyes be averted from Ilken, Richard moved towards the dead captain, about to figure out if he had anything of value.

All right, everyone, here come the EXP rewards!

Unread postby RPGWWer ChronoCatfish » Fri Jul 26, 2002 4:26 pm

(OOC: Okay, EXP rewards for the battle...
+400 XP for all conscious participants of the battle.
+300 XP to all unconscious battlers.

+150 XP to Kilra, for that whole jumping over the captain, etc...
+200 XP to Richard for much battling AND roleplaying...
+150 XP to Deeum for all that healing.
+50 XP to Kraken for... uh, deciding to grab the medallion.
+50 XP to Griff for... uh... buying a sword.

And the NPCs [Enrik, the guard who ran away] get EXP as well, I'm just not mentioning it here.)

"We did smite those who would stand in truth's way!" Enrik said to Griff.

Richard, meanwhile, saw that the captain, in addition to his longsword, buckler shield, and chainmail, had several emblems depicting a flaming shield, the symbol of the god Erijun. Of the medallion, however, he saw no sign. This was because Kraken had already pocketed it, of course, but Richard didn't know that.

"Just for clarif'cation, why's a giant bird stand'in over that captain-lookin' corpse?" Ilken asked, seeming to be unsurprised.

Richard was about to remove the captain's chainmail and take his longsword when he heard Ilken's voice. He fixed his eyes on him.

"Strange..." Richard began. "Prob'ly 'cause you never seen a wereraven before. Well, now you have."

After saying this, Richard proceeded to attempt to remove the captain's chainmail using his beak and his feet. He put his wings to holding the dead captain still.

The only result was that the captain's body was defiled further.
"This is just a suggestion, mind, but d'you think that might be workin' better if y'changed to a human before startin'?" said Ilken.

Divinegon2130

Re: Didn't think of that...

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Fri Jul 26, 2002 4:49 pm

Richard hadn't thought of that before. However, with the moon out, he wasn't sure if he could pull off reversed shapechanging - that is, he didn't know if he could successfully go back to human form in moonlight.

"I never thought of that. I'll see if I can still do that with the moon out."

With this, Richard brought his right wing over his chest, and his left wing down to the floor, putting himself in the proper stance by lowering his body to the ground as best as he could. He needed to be in this stance in case he felt so drained that he fell over - it would be easier to catch himself in a lowered position than a higher one.

(OOC: I suppose a check would be needed for this... Just not sure WHAT check.)

Richard's change was successful. He could feel his natural form resassert itself. However, as the moon was waxing, in a few nights it would probably not be as easy.
"Now d'you think you might be tellin' us what the hell happened?" Ilken asked. He then moved to block Kraken's path.
"Admirabl impulse, t'escape with th' loot an' alll that, but seein' as you were pain in advance for today's work..."
