Squintz nodded. "Ahh, yes! I like to study old artifacts too! Sometimes, I find it helps me understand my own magic.."

Dèja Vù

Postby Divinegon2130 » Thu May 30, 2002 3:28 pm

Derill remembered this man. The man had given him a brief vision earlier that located this residence. He was unaccustomed to the interior, however, having to keep his head down in most parts to avoid hitting it against the ceiling.

Now, however, Derill felt he had his chance. He wanted to know whether there was a connection between two magi that Derill had heard of earlier and the amount of undead the group had met.

"There was something I forgot to ask about when I saw you earlier," Derill said to Vin. "I've heard of two magi at war with each other, and noted the amount of undead creatures about. Since we know you're innocent, could these two magi I've heard of be the real source of these undead?"

"Why yes, of course, I thought you'd never ask, you see. Word gets around, yes? I know more than you'd think, I do. You see, the undead are powerful, but unintelligent, yes, that's what they are. They need a leader, you see, yes, who understands things the way they do, of course. An undead commander, of sorts, you understand, right? A powerful mage to lead them, indeed...a powerful undead mage...a lich, of course!" Vin smiled slightly, a twinkle in his eye.

"Great, yes, but terrible creatures, they can be, you see. Very powerful, yes?" Vin nodded continually. "And two, there are two of them, you see, and they're at war. Yes, that is the case."

"One of them, you see, is on the mainland, here, not far, no, not too far at all, only a day's journey or so. The other, yes, he is farther, on an island, off the shore, you understand, correct? It's simple enough, yes? I know, yes, because I feel their presence, I do. Constantly, indeed..."

Liches! ...Lichens?

Postby LadyDragonClawsEDW » Thu May 30, 2002 4:12 pm

Maybe we should ask this guy to come along...then again I get the feeling that he won't survive the trip to be able to enjoy his reclaimed tower...and damn, if that one guy can animate an army all the way from off the continent, then he must be pretty darned powerful.

"Well I guess we ought to take care of the closer one first...he's the one in Doma..."

Liches, not lichens >_>

Postby Archmage144 » Thu May 30, 2002 5:13 pm

"It's an astral thing, you see, you should know, but apparently you don't, oh well, it doesn't really matter, no, of course not, it doesn't at all. How can I be so silly?" Vin smirked at Squintz, nodding as he did so, a familiar twinkle in his eye. Squintz recognized it as the glimmer that shone in the eyes of the terminally insane. Potentially wise, perhaps, and very powerful, but twisted from all of their bending of the tapestry of reality.

"Ah, yes, you might, except for the fact that there is one problem, you see. His opponent will quickly learn of the death, yes, and he shall realize it is time to seize power. Unopposed, he shall march on Doma itself, yes, and conquer! Conquer, he will!" raved Vin. "Therefore, you must defeat them both at roughly the same time, yes, or the other will become all the more powerful, you see. At the time, of course, they balance each other, they do, but if the balance of power swings, chaos, I see, and devastation. I don't want that, no, and neither do you, I suspect, hmmmm?"

"That would be horrible! We can't let that happen! However...how would we get them both at the same time?" Squintz thought about that.

"I thought it would be obvious, yes, there are six of you, I see, is this not correct? Are some of you illusions or phantasms created by my inhaling too many alchemical ingredients, hmm? You divide yourselves, yes, into smaller groups! One to visit the island, yes, the island of Veran, of course, you see, I'm sure you understand, it's quite simple."

"But you do not go alone, no, for I shall give you some aid, in the form of a powerful artifact of your choice, yes, I shall assist you. How does that sound?" he proposed.

Please form 2 parties...

Postby LadyDragonClawsEDW » Thu May 30, 2002 6:44 pm

"That's great..just great..." she grumbled a little, but her face brightened slightly. Ah, easy, I just WON'T be in the group with Mahou in it and everything will be fine! And since I'm the queen I can demand that I not be in her group! Great! Aya smiled smugly to herself She'll be out of my hair and out of the nearest 10 mile radius!

"Yes...this IS a good idea."

Squintz then pulled next to Vin to whisper his next request.

"Whatever happens, I must be in the group with the weird looking lady," Squintz whispered, indicating Aya, "I swore to protect her."

Vin chuckled. "It's up to you, of course, how to divide, you see, didn't you know that, it's quite obvious," he whispered back.

"Also, miss, you see," he nodded, pointing to Mahou, "I'd like to offer you a gift, a relic, if you will, of sorts, you see, of course, a tool, that will help you along. You can decide yourself, if you'd like, of course, or perhaps, you might want to, maybe, potentially, you see, consult with your group?"

He stood up, strode over to the mess of beakers and chemicals on his desk, and brought back two boxes made of silvery metal. One of these was long and thin, and the other was small and squarish, and both opened much like briefcases would, with hinges on the back. Vin smiled slightly.

"Would you care to select one, perhaps?"

I know which way I plan to go...

Postby Divinegon2130 » Thu May 30, 2002 9:14 pm

Derill thought of this for a moment as well. After a while, he decided that he'd be part of the party that went off the main continent. He stepped forward slightly.

"Well, whatever way we split up, I'm going to be part of the group that goes to the offshore island. I've made up my mind on this, so don't try to change it."

He was going to wait for both parties to be assembled before he'd worry about the artifact.

"Solis, I think you'll be coming with me....is that okay?" she looked down at the kid, "And anyone else who would want to come with me would be great, I really don't hold any preferance to which locale I travel to...." she eyed the boxes, strangely drawn to the long thin one.

It's not because it's a phallic symbol!

Postby LadyDragonClawsEDW » Thu May 30, 2002 9:38 pm

"Well that works..." PERFECTLY... she shot a quick glance at Mahou, "I guess we'll go to the one nearby since that other dragon wishes to go offshore..." she nodded to Derill.

"Then I, I guess, shall accompany these two," Darin noted, "pointing at Derill and Mahou. "Very well. I don't have any complaints with that, of course," he said with a slight nod.

Derill now had another thing to say to his group. He spoke to Darin, "Well, now that we've divided ourselves up quite nicely, which relic would the two of you prefer to take?"

I think that whichever one we don't pick will go to the other group, Derill thought.

*plays crazy old man music some more*

Vin leaned over and pried the lid open on the long, thin box, revealing the item held within--a shimmering, golden staff of sorts, with a carved figurine at the head that was obviously supposed to be a grip. Glacing at the figurine, Mahou and the others noticed that it was in the shape of a small angel, wings folded across the chest, and holding a longsword pointing downwards.

"This, you see, of course, is the Rod of Corporeality, it is. With it, even the most powerful, yes, indeed, that is, of the immaterial undead, will become physical, allowing you to deal to them damage, of course, with your material weapons, yes...if that does not interest you, I have another artifact, you see..."

"Wait.." Aya interrupted, "Do we get to pick which one we take with us?" she eyed the staff. That's a nice piece of work right there...and think the damage it would do to mazoku! I'd love to keep that thing... >_>

AND to boot, it's somewhat phallic. Yay!

Postby Squintz Altec » Fri May 31, 2002 5:41 pm

Squintz looked at the rod. Useful thing, it was. He was curious, however, to see what was in the other box.

A less phallic option...

Postby Archmage144 » Fri May 31, 2002 5:49 pm

Reaching over to set the first box on the table, he pried open the second, smaller, squarish box, revealing a coal black metal gauntlet. The inky surface of the object swirled and almost literally oozed with power, and it was almost certainly of high quality make, as well as magical in some way.

"This, you see, is Elkar's Carapace, yes, it is. The great spellcaster-general Elkar himself wore it into battle, of course, yes, you see, that he did. Legend has it that it has powerful magic, indeed, without a doubt."

Squintz had practically gasped upon seeing the gauntlet, but managed to hold it in. THIS was something that was right up his alley...but it left a question in Squintz's mind: What kind of magic does it hold?

Derill didn't want to make the decision himself. For some reason, he just didn't want to. Thus, he turned to Mahou.

"I'll let you choose which one we get," Derill said to her.

Mahou shrugged. "I'm a former island dweller so I say we go to the island....And seeing as how the the dead went to the island...I'll take the carapace."

I hope I'm not wrong...I hate necromancy.

She looked at Derrill and Darin, her expression blank. "Any objections?"

Darin shrugged at Mahou. "I, of course, will agree with whatever you feel is right. I don't think I need to make your decisions for you..."

Derill waited until Darin finished what he said. Then he added, "I guess we've made our decision. I was planning to head in that direction anyway..."

Apparently the decisions had been made, and now it was time to get going on this trip. Derill turned to Vin. "We've made up our minds over here. We're going to go with Elkar's Carapace." He waited for a moment or two and added, "And I'm assuming that the other group of three gets the rod... or is it one artifact for the six of us?"

Vin smiled faintly, closing the case holding the rod. "I'm afraid, you see, that I can only afford to part with, that is, one of my, you know, treasures. I'm sure you understand, yes, I figure such is the case, is this so, hm?"

He set the item down on the table behind him and grinned. "I hope it helps you, it should, I know it will," he nodded, sliding the case with the gauntlet towards Mahou.

"Please calm down..um.." Squintz knew that some royalty chose to escape their royal titles, so Squintz didn't know what to call the Queen. He settled for somthing respectful. "Your Highness. I'm sure that his reasons for keeping his artifact are just." I hope that any dead that we meet are corporeal...

Mahou shrugged. "Fine. Defeat two necromancers at the same time...Great fun." She rolled her eyes. "Anything else we should know? They don't have death dragons or demons do they?? Just your basic undead?"

Mahou hoped that was all they were dealing with. She had seen many a relative of her summon all kinds of horrible souls. Partly why she distanced herself from her kin completely.

Vin smirked. "Well, you see, I'm afraid, that is, that I don't know, no, I'm afraid not. I swore once, I do, that I saw a zombie dragon among their ranks, yes, I did, I'm certain...but no worries, no, none at all, you shall succeed, yes!"

Postby Nekogami » Tue Jun 04, 2002 11:32 am

Mahou blinked at the old mage. "Zombie dragon....right." She turned slowly to Darin and Derrill. "Right." She sighed. "So is everyone ready? I would like to get this over with soon."

Darin nodded slowly at Mahou. "Of course, I'm ready whenever you want to go...you seem to be ready now, so that's fine, I don't want to hold you up or keep you..."

He lowered his eyes when he spoke, as though trying to communicated with the floor instead of the bounty hunter. "Are you ready too, Derill?"

"Oh, yes," Vin added, "of course, you see, just down the street, if it survived the attack, that is."
