O.O

"Woooow, Miss Aya. That was cool... well, it was kinda scaryo too, but it was pretty cool the way all those crazy skeleton-things got zapped by those large flaming rock-things, and they were all runnin and stuff, and... and... umm.. and.... it was cool." Apparently the necromancer's display of power had impressed the little kid very much. "I wish I could do that. Umm... hey. Where's that tall lady going?" he said as he watched Mahou stroll off from the carnage.

Getting to the root of the problem...

Unread postby Archmage144 » Tue May 28, 2002 8:28 pm

After a bit of a walk, though not an especially long one, Mahou arrived at the town hall. The building was fairly grandiose and made of marble, complete with ionic columns, as well as a very nice shrub garden out front. What was left of it, anyway. A few stray bursts of fire had apparently dealt a bit of damage to some of the hedges out front, somewhat reducing their grandeur, and lying on the ground was the remains of a battle-worn skeleton, his head resting against a burlap sack with the label "bone meal."

Entering the town hall, she noted it was equally nice inside, what with carpet and oak furniture--a building truly fit for a ruler, somewhat like a mini palace. A woman sat at a desk in the middle of the front atrium, scribbling fussily on a piece of parchment on her desk with a quill pen and spattering black ink everywhere.

Squintz looked at Darin.

"Perhaps now that it's relatively safe, I think that we should go and meet with this governor. You never know when these skeletons will come again..."

Testing the wings...

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Tue May 28, 2002 9:18 pm

Derill, after getting a hard stare from Mahou, looked back at Aya. Oh crap, she IS royalty! Derill started to panic again... before remembering that they were working together on this.

"And maybe we should get there quick," Derill said in response to Squintz. He then stepped farther away from the gazebo... and, incidentally, from the others.

He then asked the others, "Could you stand clear for a minute? I'm going to try and get an idea where the governor would be." Derill was about to try to see where the governor would be, and he would fly straight up to get a better view if needed.

(OOC: Not sure if I can see the Town Hall or not from where we are. If I can, just a general direction would do. If I can't see it from where I am, which is about five or so yards from the gazebo, I'll ask for a Flying check to fly straight up and get a better view.)

Grrrrr

Unread postby LadyDragonClawsEDW » Tue May 28, 2002 9:24 pm

Aya growled softly, ignoring Solis as she stormed off, "Stupid elf has a point, gotta meet the governer I guess...."

Faster this is done, the faster I can get this damned bounty hunter out of my hair, can't be that difficult, just nuke the necromancers and the problem is gone... She walked past the skeleton, pausing for a moment to read the words on the sack. "Bone meal? Guess the governer likes to take good care of his roses..."

Squintz had followed after the queen, keeping to his unspoken oath. He walked inside the Town Hall only a second after her.

We're off to see... wait, wrong timing.

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Tue May 28, 2002 9:31 pm

Derill, upon sighting the town hall, headed straight for it, not even bothering to get a look around just outside to see any damage to the landscape.

He walked there, however - he was not about to fly so soon. He kept his wings folded so as not to hit anything or anyone by mistake.

Once he got close to the building, he went straight in after the others, and got a look around inside, trying to figure out who could help him - or seeing if the governor was in the immediate area.

Mahou stepped forward to the desk and cleared her throat. The woman looked harried and in a fuss so Mahou decided a softer persona would be better than her usual hardness.

"Excuse me, miss. But may I speak with the governor. It's terribly important. It's about the necromancers..." Mahou leaned forward. "I think I've acquired intelligence on them." She bore a serious expression. Firm but not threatening.

Solis, seeing Aya running off, decided to run off after her.

"HEY!!! WAIT FOR MEEEEEEE!!!!"

Just as the remainder of the group was arriving in the town hall, the secretary behind the desk leaned over towards Mahou, blinking, a serious stare on her face. "The...the necromancers...right. We'll have to allow you in to see the governor, then won't we..." she glanced over Mahou's shoulder, a somewhat shaken glance illuminating her features.

"And...these people...are they with you, or here for some other purpose?"

Aya fell back slightly to allow Solis to catch up, but as the secretary had announced, she was no sooner standing behind Mahou, waiting patiently with a smile on her face.

"I wouldn't say that we are WITH her but our reasons are the same...."

The secretary nodded, and Darin stepped forward, speaking up for the first time in the last few minutes. "If no one objects, then perhaps we should go in to see the governor together? I predict that alone, we can accomplish little, whereas together, we could achieve much."

Aya stammered for a moment, "Work with her....er...um...I guess..." she shrugged, glancing back at the elf woman. Oh goody, working with missus a dragon's length ahead...fun fun...

"Yeah, so I guess we're all here together..." she glanced at Mahou, "As long as it's okay with YOU."

Mahou looked at Aya. "Just stay out of my way. You can tag along as long as you pull your weight."

She looked at the secretary. "So may I meet with the mayor now?"

Solis looked from Aya to Mahou and then to Derill with wide eyes.

"Why's everyone so growly and mean and stuff all the time?"

Derill also nodded and, for once, kept his mouth shut. He was not about to let the petty problems of the rest of the group get in his way of working together. Besides, he wasn't about to let anyone go alone, either.

"Absolutely," the secretary nodded, gesturing towards an oaken door at behind her desk. The group strode over, Mahou in the lead, and entered to find a tall man sitting in an oversized chair wearing spotless white robes with golden trim. An insignia on his left side marked him clearly as a Doman governor or magistrate to Aya's eyes.

The man appeared somewhat worried as he leaned back in his chair, sighing softly. "I understand you six are here to deal with the problem of the undead? Why don't you explain the situation to me...someone..."

Aya remained silent, waiting for several things to happen, fully expecting Mahou to spill whatever she had in mind. That, and she wanted to see if the mayor would recognize her position.

Smiling lightly, she patted Solis again, "Don't worry about it..." First change I get I'm ditching that elf...

The governor gave Aya an odd look. "The Queen of Doma herself is here? Your highness, it's a bit dangerous for you to be here like this...shouldn't you be going home?"

Darin shook his head slowly and raised a hand, palm up, towards the governor in a halting gesture, cutting him off. "I was...sent by General Silvar to investigate. And...I believe...you see, also, the Queen was sent by him..."

The governor nodded slowly. "...right...your highness, if you insist, I suppose I cannot supress your desires." He shrugged slightly, and sighed audibly.

Mahou looked at everyone in the room. Idle chatter does not get the job done...

"Mayor, what were your reasons for evicting Vin the Elder Mage?" Mahou asked bluntly.

"Vin?" the governor responded quietly. "Vin was suspected of practicing necromancy. We felt he might have been a part of the undead plague, you see. There's plenty of evidence, actually...he possesed several artifacts of necromantic origins. We managed to seize a few of them, in fact," he noted.

Mahou nodded. "However, you will note, Your Grace, that you assumptions were incorrect. Besides, having known drow that practiced necromancy, you'll also note that simply having items does not make you necromancer. Much like simply owning a sword does not a hero make." Mahou nodded slowly. "Yes, necromancers have a distinct look and scent about them. They spend so much time with the dead....they become the undead. Even if Vin had been a necromancer, evicting him would not have stopped nor would you have been able to evict him in the first place. I sympathize with the elder...I say replace him in his home. His days can't be too much longer...."

Squintz blinked, looking at the artifacts. Were they really what they were made out to be?

"You'd be amazed how long some of these old mages can live for, you know," the governor smirked. "But...if you insist, I'll restore him to his proper location. But I intend to keep those artifacts, to insure that they don't fall into the wrong hands. They'll stay locked up in the vaults, you see. Perhaps I'll send them to General Silvar for study."

"If you all are going to investigate this further, then, I suspect you might want to find the source. Even if he isn't responsible for the undead himself, Vin might know something. I'm sure he'll cooperate if you give him this."

The governor reached into his desk, pulled out a piece of parchment and scribbled on it furiously, obviously writing some sort of legal document. He reached across his desk for a stamp, stamped the parchment, slid it into an envelope, and pressed it shut with a wax seal imprinted with the crest of Doma. "Take this to that crazy mage. If you need anything, my name is Sam...and you can come back to report to me periodically. I'll do whatever I can to help you."

"Umm...does anyone know where Vin is?"

Solis thankfully remained silent throughout this exchange. But as it seemed to have ended, he decided to ask a few questions. "Miss Aya... Mister Squintz... Mister Derill.... what's with all the talk of scary-sounding Necro-thingies and umm.... umm... in..vestly...grating? Are we playing a game?"

Solis looked around conspiritorially for a moment, as if looking for something and then said... "I don't think this is a fun game."

Aya gets lil kid detail...

Unread postby LadyDragonClawsEDW » Wed May 29, 2002 10:59 pm

"Well..." Aya leaned down a little to talk to Solis quietly, "Yes, sometimes this game can be rather scary, but sometimes this game can be rather fun...you see...it's like a big puzzle...we talk to different people and get the pieces to put together the puzzle...and when the puzzle is solved, we go and kick the bad guy's butt...." ^_^ She smiled placidly, thouroughly betraying her inner emotion, though a tad could be seen manifested in the irratic twitchings of her tail every now and then.

How the hell did that stupid elf get all that information?! Damnit damnit damnit, I'll show her....

Mahou snatched the parchment from Squintz.

"Vin deals with me." She nodded slightly to to him. "Sorry to be so abrupt but I don't like having others meddle in my business." She turned to Sam. "Your right. The old mage did seem to have more information and maybe with this," she wiggled the parchment. "He's tongue will loosen." She turned and walked out of the office with a brisk determination.

She called back. "If you're following...hurry up."

Derill, having paid attention to what had been said by the governor, simply went ahead and followed Mahou at this point. He was keeping his mouth shut for a reason - he didn't want to anger any of his companions or the governor himself.

After a few minutes worth of walking, the group arrived at Vin's little shack. Mahou knocked on the door, and the mage answered. Derill recognized him immediately as the mage he had encountered earlier.

"Ah, you're back, I see, yes, of course, and you've brought some friends with you, hmm? I didn't know the dragon was with you, no, I had no idea, but then, you probably didn't either, did you? Fate has some funny games to play, hmm? Nothing ever really makes sense now, does it, I don't think, don't you agree? Of course."

He blinked at Mahou, tugging on his sleeve absentmindedly. "Have you come back for a good reason, yes, of course you have, but I'm no mind reader, of course not, leave that to the professionals, yes, I do, so perhaps, of course, maybe, you know, I think you understand, hmmmmm?"

Mahou suppressed a twitch. "Yes, I've returned and with good news, I think." She handed the parchment to Vin. "I spoke with the mayor and got your tower back. Now, may I come in? We still have things to discuss."

Aya regarded Vin a bit He speaks weirdly, either he's very smart or very insane...then again he could be an insane genius, not like I haven't come accross some of those guys before She frowned for a moment before looking to Squintz. Who is that guy?? I really should say something here but damn, I don't know what... she glanced over at Mahou again, growling softly And if she wants it so bad fine, she can do the talking, it's not like I'm out here for money or anything...

"Well, yes, yes, of course, positively, sure, why not, bring your friends!" The old man visibly brightened at the prospect of having his tower returned. "I'll have to pack things up, yes, I shall, right away, but first, yes, we shall have to discuss this, hmmmmmm?"

He led the group into the cross between a laboratory and a living room he used whenever he had guests and blinked at Mahou.

"So what do you want to know, exactly, hmm?"

Solis looked at the old man, and listened to his words. Then, thinking back on exactly how much he could remember of the important events before, and as much as he could guess of what was to come, said one thing.

"You smell funny, mister. You talk funny, too."

The old mage blinked at Solis. "I do? I hadn't noticed, you see, after all, because I do live alone, and such, you see, after all, but thank you for informing me, since I shall be out in public again soon, of course, for a while. I shall have to bathe, yes, hmm? Yes, I shall...it does happen, yes, when you work with herbs and extracts as I do..."

"Alllll alone, mister" asked Solis. "Being alone isn't fun at all in fact it's quite boring till you make up some games for yourself to play and you win cause there's no one else to play with except you lose too cause you're the only one playing and when I think about it that's not fun at all...."

Solis thought upon the old man's predicament a little bit harder after a moment.

"It must be very boring for you. What games do you play, though, mister? It's fun to share your games with people."

"Oh, yes, well, you see, I like to play games with magic, yes. I invent all kinds of things, you see, and study various other effects. And I possess some very interesting artifacts I've collected over times, and, yes, of course, I study those, indeed, I do. It's quite enjoyable, you see, don't you, of course, hmmmm?" replied the old man, in his ordinarily fast and slightly confusing, superfluous way of talking.
