Darin nodded slowly. "Hello, Aya, it is certainly nice to see you here...did Hakaril send you as well? It would be nice to accompany you, as best I can..."

"Darin?" she turned, gazing at him through her hood for a moment, "You're here too...I mean...SHH! Keep it down!" she laughed again nervously, "Yes Solis, you could say I'm a little...uh ...tense... eh heh..."

Solis looked curiously up at Aya and asked the one question that is feared by parents everywhere. The question that spells impending DOOM for any plans that the person may have for at least acouple minutes.

"WHYYYY?"

Derill had come close to getting a nasty remark from Aya. But then Solis decided to glomp her and announce her name. So THAT'S her name... and what is this castle that... Derill started thinking. Then, he heard what seemed the child's name from Aya's mouth.

...that Solis speaks of? Is Aya some sort of royal leader or something? Nahh, she couldn't be... Derill finished his previous thought. He was getting INCREDIBLY nervous now, seeing how everyone seemed to know each other, and he felt as if he were isolated from the conversation.

"Uuhhh... can we worry about this later, and take care of the nasty occurrences around here?"

Derill gave everyone a look that said he was extremely nervous.

"Or has this become more important all of a sudden? I'd like to wait on the introductions myself... but, uh, you may have, erm, other thoughts on that..."

Derill decided to stop where he was before he made a fool of himself again.

Fortunately for Aya, having dealt with similar questions on a daily basis, she was equipped with the answer used by parents everywhere to temporarily combat the dreaded WHY question.

"Because."

Darin blinked at Derill. "My name is Darin," he murmured, extending a hand shyly. "It is a pleasure to meet one such as yourself," he mouthed, hoping he had adhered to all the proper social codes for politeness. "This is Solis," he said, indicating the child, "and this is Squintz, I believe," he nodded. He glanced up at Aya, his face deadpan, concealing any knowledge he had of anything related to her identity. "And, as you know, this is Aya. You are who?"

Squintz was once again flabbergasted at how small children acted. He would have to remember that trick.

"Yes, I am Squintz." His real name was too embarrassing. He then took the time to ask another question. He hoped that it wouldn't casue this Aya to snap at him. "Excuse me, Miss Aya, is it? May I ask if you are here about those rumors too?"

"My name?" Derill was surprised at being asked his name. This was unusual for him. However, he then saw Darin's outstretched hand. He decided to shake hands with him.

"I'd prefer to be called Derill. That's my true name. Not like that nickname SOME people give me.... which I ask that you don't worry about."

"Ahh, I see." Squintz nodded, keeping track on who was potential allies. Let's see...we've got me, Darin, most likely, that dragon... Squintz heard the dragon say his name, and mentally corrected himself. Derill, Aya, and maybe Solis. Squintz nodded again, deep in thought.

Darin gripped the draconian's hand and gave it a shake, then released him and lowered his eyes towards the ground again, as he had before. Suddenly, he perked up, apparently having heard something, and drew a few looks from the others.

Mahou, with her sensitive elven hearing, heard the same thing, even though she was quite some distance from the rest of the group, on her way to the town hall.

It was the sound of marching soldiers.

Without warning, a group of well organized skeletons in varying degrees of armor and wielding a variety of weapons in a multitude of conditions of repair, marched around the corner and down the street. People cleared out of the way, fearing for their lives if they interefered whatsoever with the troop of undead. Skeletal units paraded, rank and file, straight down the main street and divided into smaller groups, spreading out to cover more ground as they marched. All in all, it was an impressive, albeit disturbing, sight.

Villagers darted under nearby cover and locked their doors, evacuating the streets within minutes at the first sign of the undead platoon. Our adventurers, however, had not yet decided to evacuate, and instead observed the sight for a moment. Perhaps a moment was too long.

Quite abruptly, an enormous meteor-like burst of flame fell from the sky, slamming into the midst of the marching skeletal army and dealing significant collateral damage to nearby buildings as well. The blaze raged, tearing apart ranks of skeletal warriors who, for the most part, seemed unfazed at the loss of their companions. An obvious advantage to lifeless undead warriors, it would seem.

A few more massive bursts of flame peppered the city, and suddenly, a massive disturbance in the air, followed by a loud popping sound, tore the fabric of reality asunder. Zombies, ghouls, and others popped out of seemingly nowhere to engage in combat with the marching army from earlier. The battle raged on, army against army, and Derill, Darin, Aya, Solis, Squintz, and elsewhere, Mahou, were all directly in the middle of the conflict...

(OOC: Archmage, I request that, if you refer to Derill without using his name, that you call him either a 'draconian', a 'dragon', or a 'dragon-kin' (the last one is what is stated as his race on his character sheet). Because lizardmen don't have wings like Derill does. Apologies if this offends you.)

Derill had to think quickly. He knew that he either had to run or hide, seeing the number of these things.

"Shouldn't we get out of the way of these armies?" Derill asked his companions, trying to make himself clear over any noise from the fight going on. "Seeing how they outnumber us..."

"AHHH!!!" screamed Solis as he looked down the street at the marching skeletons, meteors, and bursts of flame, and he IMMEDIATELY leapt over to Aya, glomping onto one of her legs"

"SCARY SKELETON-THINGIES!!! Make em go AWAY, Miss Aya!! Make em go away!!!! WAAAAH!!!"

Squintz was taken aback by the sudden "attack." He had seen skeleton warriors before, but not of this magnitude. He decided to heed Derill's words.

"Aya, Solis, Darin! We must find cover!" Squintz looked franticaly around, trying to see if there was anything that could be used as cover.

(Uh, well, Div, all I have to say is WHOOPS. That wasn't even a conscious thing...it was an accident. In any event, it's fixed now. ^^;;)

Squintz glanced over, spying the only thing nearby that could be used as cover whatsoever--a large, rather ornate gazebo.

Aya, conducting a search of her own, noticed that the guide who had been with her earlier had vanished mysteriously. Further investigating his disappearance, he realized where he had gone within less than a minute. Half of him lay a few feet away from her, and the rest was somewhere within the sea of skeletal warriors that had apparently trampled and cut him down when he impeded their progress...

And Derill, upon hearing this, looked to where Squintz was pointing.

Derill tried to keep calm as he approached the gazebo, keeping his eyes open for anything along the lines of a trap, or an onrush of the undead beings that were around.

If he found anything strange, he'd report to the group on it.

Mahou looked around her....

"Too put it lightly......Sh!t." She assessed her situation further. "If this is a battle between two mages....maybe they won't attack me." Mahou ducked behind a treee. "Or better yet, maybe I should go back to Vin's...." She sighed. Let's just see what they do.

(Div, I laughed out loud at your post...mainly because...well, just the fact that you were afraid of TRAPS and there was a GAZEBO involved...if you don't get it, well...um. *laughs*)

Darin quickly made his way, following after Derill as fast as he could move, and beckoned for the rest of the team to follow.

The battle raged around the group, the gazebo a relative spot of calm in a sea of chaos as skeletons fought skeletons, ghouls sparred with ghouls, zombies who lost limbs retrieved them for use as bludgeoning weapons, and incorporeal wraiths battled and flitted about across the sky.

Interestingly, the undead armies seemed to have little or no interest in anyone or anything...except the other undead army.

(OOC: 'Cause he's a bit overcautious, Archmage. You can call it paranoia, but Derill denies such.)

Derill decided it would be safe, ducking his head under the roof of the gazebo, and trying to make as much room as possible for the rest of his allies by bringing his tail close to his body.

Mahou walked out. She dodged the warring undead soldiers and observed the insanity.

"This...is pointless.....I admire them used already dead soldiers to fight but still. Battle should not be so frivolous..."

She hopped over a ghouls skull and walked past the gazebo, still observing the chaos.

Squintz had gotten to saftey in time; he was lucky. However, as he watched the carnage, he grew sick. Why was this happening? Suddenly, he saw a figure, obviously not a skeleton, walk by the gazebo.

"Excuse me! Don't you know it isn't safe out there?" Squintz called out.

"Holy @#%$!" Aya had of course retreated along with the others, dragging the still glomped to her leg Solis to the gazebo with her. "Just calm down kiddo...I'll um...think of something...."

Guess I won't have to pay the guide...oh well... And those armies...damn, this isn't going to be a one-person job at all.... Aya pulled down her hood and brushed back her cloak, finally revealing her appearance to the others. Her golden floppy ears and long spaded tail strongly indicated that Aya was clearly not a human. "Crap, look at all of them!" She scrunched her nose They smell AWFUL! . As she peered out over the ranks, she too noticed the non-undead walking about, "Hey you! Get somewhere safe before you end up joining their ranks!"

Odd, that person out there...seems strangely familiar...

"...if there's an advantage to this," Darin whispered airily, "no one's actually dying...but think of all the graveyards and tombs they must have raided to acquire...all those corpses..."

The time mage quivered nervously, glancing out of the gazebo at the undead armies clashing within the city, and likewise spotting Mahou.

"Hey!" he called out. "It's dangerous out there, and it's fairly safe over here!"

Mahou looked at those that had called out to her. Her expression was emotionless and without concern.

"These undead soldiers are not concerned with us. They're masters only want to wipe the other out." She shrugged walked up the gazebo, taking a seat on the railing, watching the battle boil around. "It's a war of two evils. For now, just watch..."

She looked at Aya and and Derrill. Then to Solis, then Darin, then Squintz. "Hn."

Within roughly 20 minutes, the raging battle had ended, leaving the streets littered with "corpses" of undead warriors. Slowly, people came out of their houses, surveying the destruction, and shook their heads silently. Little collateral damage had actually occured, at least this time. Very few buildings had suffered any damage at all, and the only people who lie dead were those who had failed to get out of the way of the marching hordes.

Squintz was watching the undead. Dhargun had shown a little proficency in summoning them, though not much, and he had used them well in battle. Seeing the undead now, it brought back memories. He then turned to the others. He was somwhat surprised to see that Aya was not human, but it was understandable. After all, most who hid their features were hiding something that they wanted secret. Squintz had done it himself, and was still doing it in some ways. His ears were hidden under his hair, and his hair itself was arranged so as that it would not appear to belong to an elf. Squintz stood, watching the undead pass.

"Surprisingly it doesn't seem as bad as it could have been, I feel sorry for whoever cleans all that up..." Aya brushed a strand of red-brown hair out of her face, "Nevertheless, it's gotta stop, it's not fair to have a nice town like this caught in such an awful war..." So much for that guide... >_>

She turned to her other companions, "So you people are here to do something about this also right?"

Derill watched Aya reveal to the rest of the group that she wasn't human. I KNEW something was up with her... I just couldn't tell what... Derill thought. But she doesn't seem to be my type.

But that wasn't his biggest concern. His concern was the amount of destruction that the town had suffered. Which, to his surprise, seemed to be very little.

Then he turned to the female that had come up to the gazebo and had NOT been part of the group that he was initially with. "I'm wondering who SHE is," Derill said silently. Or that's what he thought. It was just loud enough so that the others immediately around him could hear it.

(OOC: The 'female' I referred to in the last paragraph is Mahou, by the way.)

Squintz was waiting for a fairly short time. The "survivors" of the undead troop quickly arranged themselves, marching out of the city at a fairly rapid pace, off towards the direction of the sea.

Obviously, the majority of the group was slightly dazed as a result of all of this...

Squintz shook his head. He hated the undead. They were the embodiment of death and Darkness...two things he had sworn to destroy. At least he didn't have to fight them. He knew he had no chance against that many. Squintz turned to Aya.

"Yes. I am here also to put an end to this. Personal reasons."

Mahou gave Derrill her same uninterested look. Before hopping off the gazebo railing and examining the undead. She looked at their armor, their weapons, anything that might tell her who the were and possibly where they had come from.

More incompetent heros.... she thought as she examined a re-dead zombie. Twitching their fingers to solve the problem and get a little fame. It's more appalling that Aya is here. What was the king thinking, sending his dragon-thing wife to solve this problem.

She kicked a skull out of the way of her path and looked over the body. They're little competition. I imagine to see them tucking their tails like beat dogs in no time....

These were her last thoughts on the others, as she examined another zombie.

The twice over dead skeletal warriors and zombies appeared to be standard fare for Mahou. Standard soldiers, animated with death magic, and equipped with whatever they happened to find lying around. Shock troops, expendable units, whatever you chose to call them, that was the function of these undead hordes.

For the most part, the fallen were carrying nothing of any value. Broken swords, rusty armor, and a few loose copper coins here and there...

I remember that elf...grr...beat me in that contest, I don't get it I'm sooooo much prettier than her! She fumed, glaring daggers at the elf's back while eyeing the bodies.

Mahou stood. "I wasn't looking for them to talk. I wanted to know if they had coat of arms. If they were Doman soldiers, they'd have Doman symbols. These are just nondescripts."

Mahou started to walk away from the group towards the Town Hall. "Good luck finding leads."

They don't even know where to look....Pathetic. Mahou shook her head, slowly. They're going to have to try harder if they want fame.

Mahou turned to look at Aya. "You obviously weren't paying attention. These," she indicated to the fallen undead. "are dead soldiers. Some long before you were queen. The necromancers are from around here and are merely testing their powers." Mahou turned back around to head to the Town Hall. "If you're going to figure out who's behind this carnage, you're going to have to be more observant. I'm already a dragon's flight ahead of you."

Mahou walked off.

Squintz walked away from the gazebo, sighing softly.

"That woman should learn some manners..." Squintz looked at Aya. So she was the queen. He would have to protect her, then. Even though he was from a place with no monarchy, he couldn't allow the queen of another country to be harmed. It was the chivalrous thing to do...and if it was chivalrous...Squintz would do it.
