He stays at Enzo's side as they make their way back to the game store. "I never really thought of Kid as the Winterveil type, with how quiet she was I was kinda worried she didn't like it or something. I'm glad she's enjoying herself!"

Lauren looked after the fleeing thief in disbelief as Max made his call. "Is that really...but that's...AMBASSADOR LEAFSHA--" She cut off suddenly and switched to a comm link with Ambassador Leafshade. Get out of there! The thief is Ettezan! That ice zombie lady!

Ambassador Leafshade, who was about to attempt a nasty chomp on the hand of the thief, froze in place. Woah...that's even better! I can find out where she's headed!

Lauren shook her head in disbelief. "You have got to be--" You have got to be kidding me. Remember the whole giant sword thing? We don't even have superpowers like this!

I don't need them!, the superpower-less robotic sentient ferret with a built in radio communicator replied. Look, I'll just keep in touch, I'll peek out every now and then to see where we're going, and I'll bail out if things get dangerous. Don't worry!

Lauren stamped her foot. Ambassador Leafshade, get back here this insta--

Could you quiet down? Ambassador Leafshade responded calmly. I'm trying to figure out what she's stealing.

"Ugggggh!" Lauren turned to Max. "Ambassador Leafshade's in the bag. And she's being difficult."

As his phone rings, Max looks at Lauren and confirms that her furry companion is, in fact, missing. Looking back in the direction the thief ran off in, he seems impressed. "Wow. She's got balls. Not literally, of course, but-"

Rivendare answers the phone and Max drops the thought. He moves his phone back to his ear and places a finger over the other to stifle some of the ambient mall noise. "Oh, hey. This is Max. So, I'm sure you guys are watching us and probably saw it, but Laruen and I just came across a thief who looked an awful lot like our zombie intruder/guest earlier today. I don't know how many blue-haired white-skinned people there are in Deck City, but if it is her, you know..." Max pauses, searching for some kind of answer. "... Well, I hope you know, because I don't know what to do with us all in civvies over here."

"There's not a lot." Rivendare says. "You'd have to find a way to upload yourself into your main bodies. Not very likely. Don't play a hero, just let her go. Best to just drop it for now."

It's basically what Max was expecting to hear, but he still frowns a little. It's not a very satisfying response, but it's difficult to argue with. "Well... yeah, but... she's got Leafshade. She stowed away in Ettezan's sack of stolen stuff."

"Uhh..." Max pauses his conversation, and gives Lauren a questioning glance, wondering if she heard the same thing. He then looks to his left, and sees a rather nondescript planter that he barely even noticed before. He goes over to inspect it, while stalling with Rivendare. "Plus, you know, you might want to tell mall security to back off a little. It's probably not in their best interest to try too hard to stop her, you know?"

Chips? Really? Max wasn't even aware they could still slot chips in these non-combat bodies.

Alexis gave an upset little "oh n-n-no..." and kind of wrung her hands in frustration. Why would someone do this? Who could be such a... such a poopy-head? And on Winterveil of all occasions!

Max picks up the chip with his ear-plugging hand and flips it over a couple times. It's... pink. He's pretty sure he knows what that means. Max closes his hand around the chip, and finishes his conversation with Rivendare. "So, I guess that's it, then? Just thought you might want to know. Talk at you later, chief."

Max puts his cell phone away and casually makes his way back to Lauren. "So... I didn't know these things grew on mall shrubs. And between the two of us, I'm pretty sure this one accessorizes with your outfit better." Max pushes the chip between the knuckles of his middle and pointer fingers, and nonchalantly offers Lauren the chip. "Does this mean I still have to get you something? I mean, technically it's from Thirteen."

"Of course you still have to get me a gift!" Lauren took the chip from Max and held it up between her thumb and fingers, and stared at it thoughtfully. "Buuut....I'm going to have to get Thirteen something really nice." She dropped the chip into the palm of her hand and clenched a fist around it. "Change of plans. It's time to right wrongs and triumph over evil." Lauren took off after the thief in as much of a run as she could manage, given her outfit and the crowds.

The security guards seem to be giving up, falling way behind and just letting her go. Lauren, not so much! She has stamina...But so does Ettezan. She's falling behind a bit though, between Ettezan's longer legs, and her dress.

Gotcha! I can't wait to see... Ambassador Leafshade responded, with...perhaps a faint note of jealousy? She then attempted to pop her head out of the bag to see the surroundings.

Aaaand there she goes. Max wonders if he should follow her, or contact the other Wunderkind. They're probably enjoying their shopping trip and would rather not be bothered, and it's not like they could really do much to help anyway, right?

... wait, what is he thinking? Of course he should follow Lauren! Some crazy shit is about to go down; and besides that, they're buddies for the day! He can communicate and run at the same time, right? Max takes off after her, thankful that she doesn't have the benefit of her XLR8 system.

Meanwhile, he decides to compromise between telling everyone and telling no one, and opens a channel with just Enzo and Janet.

Enzo, Janet, hey, sorry to bug you guys, but, um.... apparently there's been a burglary in the mall, and Lauren and I just ran into the theif: Apparently it's Ettezan. Obviously we didn't stop her but Leafshade is stowing away in her swag-sack. Um... also, Thirteen apparently left a chip behind for Lauren, who is now chasing after Ettezan. I'm... not sure what's going to happen, but I figure this is relevant information. I also don't know if I want to tell everyone, since they're probably having a good time, and there's not a lot we can really do in these bodies, but you guys are intel so I thought at least you should know.

As Max runs and relays a big chunk of information, it occurs to him that communicating over the network like this apparently takes less time than actually speaking, although it is perceived like normal conversation. I mean, he said all that and he hasn't even caught up with Lauren yet.

"Sure," Emily said, falling in with Alexis, "Good luck getting the dress back," she said in parting to the shopkeeper. She wasn't quite sure where Alexis wanted to go from here. The thief was probably long gone, and there wouldn't be much they could do on that front anyway.

We're heading out the exit near Withering's! Ambassador Leafshade reported back, while ducking back down into the bag. Whatever you're going to do, do it soon!

I'll be right there! Lauren ducked into a nearby side hallway. Max, she sent to her shopping buddy, She's heading out the door near Withering's. Try and keep an eye on her if you can. She held the chip up to the light for a moment. I'm not completely sure how this will work, but it's going to be awesome.

Lauren slid the chip into her arm and let out a yelp as she suddenly felt energy flooding through her body. She collapsed to one knee, as it grew more intense. Strange lights flashed in her vision and words rose to her lips unbidden.

"Starlight...Reflection....Engage!"
She was suddenly surrounded in a soft glow as she felt herself lift gently into the air. Constellations in tiny dots of pink light flashed before her eyes as pink gloves appeared on her hands. Several pink stars began to shine on her chest, and from them, a white spandex suit began to form, flowing over her body as the fabric it replaced vanished into pink sparkles. Her shoes reformed into pink thigh-high boots, and a pink cape faded into existence. Finally, as the light began to fade, a pink domino mask appeared on her face, and a delicate silver tiara settled gently on her head.

Meanwhile, in the shopping bag, Ambassador Leafshade suddenly felt something strange on her face. Woah, what the... she sent to Lauren as she began to feel around with her paws. It was...some kind of mask?

Lauren blinked. Wow, I feel...really strong, she sent to Max and Ambassador Leafshade. This chip is pretty cooHOLY CRAP I'M FLYING THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER

With that realization, Lauren flew out of the hallway towards the Withering's exit, zooming above the heads of the crowd, wooping in delight. Hahaha! THIS IS AWESOME!

Lauren flies like it's second nature, speeding over the heads of the amazed crowd- Slipping in front of Ettezan, causing the zombie to come to a sliding stop. "Oh, you have GOT to be KIDDING ME." She shouts, standing all the way up. "Superheroism must be a goddamn virus."

For the moment she's not moving- At least giving Max time to catch up and help. Maybe.

Emmy and Alexis

The pair begins to walk a bit, coming to the nearest entrance to the mall from the outside area. They see a small crowd has gathered...And a super-heroic Lauren seems to have stopped a rather casually clothed Ettezan.

Max passed by the hall Lauren jumped into and glanced over to see her transformation sequence about halfway through. He nearly stumbles to a stop at the sight. He catches himself, and then backs up to catch the tail end of it.

"That... doesn't even make sense."

After Lauren zooms over his head, Max suddenly remembers they were doing something. He runs after her, and stops in front of the small crowd-ring, but still preferring to keep some amount of distance between himself and Ettezan. It should be Lauren's opportunity to answer Ettezan with a witty quip, but Max can't help himself.

"Yeah, it's infectious. Kind of like the Winterveil spirit. Gotta say, that's a bug I didn't expect you to catch."

Given that they're at the mall, a bunch of people are around, and only one Wunderkind is currently combat-viable, Max would really prefer to resolve this conflict through diplomacy. Hopefully Lauren's presence as some kind of threat will encouage Ettezan to talk, at least a little bit.

We've stopped! Ambassador Leafshade sent to Lauren and Max It seems like there's something--

"Stop right there!" Lauren shouted, placing her fists on her hips. "Born from one faint light in the darkest night...," she raised her right hand, index finger extended upwards, then slowly lowered it to point at Ettezan. "The light that reveals the works of evildoers..." She mimed a shooting motion with her hand. "Princess Starlight is here!"

Oh, I get it now! Ambassador Leafshade chimed in. Wait, I've got one too! Ambassador Leafshade scampered up the bag, CHOMPED down on Ettezan's hand, then leapt free.

"Born from the shadows of sinister desires," she hissed, as she scurried along the floor, a dark, almost snakelike streak of black and pink. "The retribution that follows from a villain's deeds..." she scurried up to Lauren's shoulder and rested there, her pure black coat standing out starkly against the white of Lauren's costume. And on her face, a tiny pink ferret-sized domino mask. "Lady Nightshade has arrived!"

Enzo had been shopping with Sam, generally having a good time. He figured that after the dramatics earlier today, things would be calm and orderly now. They were on a semi-supervised trip to the mall on civilian bodies, for crying out loud. He was understandably rattled, then, when he received Max's message. He made an excuse to sit for a moment, and setting himself on a bench, connected to Lauren.

Ok, what the f-

The angle was wrong. She wasn't at eye level with Ettezan or anyone else, high above it. She was flying. Something was different. Was this something the chip Max had mentioned was letting her do?

Lauren, I can't stress to you how bad this could go. We are in a civilian area and we know that Ettezan uses area attacks. Whatever she stole is not worth people getting hurt.

He tried not to freak out. It had been, like, a couple hours since they had attacked Ettezan last. Against direct orders, no less. That had been in a military facility in their fully decked out and capable bodies. Now they were doing it again, with only Lauren in fighting form, an unknown value in an equation that they'd learned earlier was not balanced in their favor normally. More than that, they were now in a mall FULL of Winterveil shoppers. This couldn't be happening. He was connected to Lauren. Her sensor feeds assured him it was in fact happening. Fuck.

Confused, Sam heads over to sit with Enzo, setting his bags on the bench next to him. He waits patiently for...at least a full minute, but the look on Enzo's face isn't something he likes to see; something bad's going on, he's sure of it! He finally can't help but speak up, quietly so as to not jar him out of his connection. "Is everything okay? What's going on? What is it, Enzo?"

Starting at the unexpected voice, Sam looks over his shoulder, not quite recognizing who it is. Thinking back, he quickly makes sure he didn't say anything suspicious in the last few minutes, just in case he got overheard by someone; luckily, everything seems clean.
