He sits back down behind the desk.
"What would you like to know?" His eyes scan you as he speaks. Your liaison is still standing by the door behind you, silently.
Leveticus will think a bit before suggesting, "We should probably make a few determinations as to the physiacl properties of the artefacts, I think. Material composition, chemical signatures, metallurgical properties. The metals themselves will be composed of certain molecular components that will be keys as to their origins. If the metal was smelted here on Famine, we can determine where the metals were originally mined. If not, if it is...'Exo-Famine' as it were, then we need to determine the point of origin. We also need to determine their age. The pict-images we saw tend to suggest a primitive culture made them, or that we were meant to believe such. The sphere, is it solid, or does its curved surafce hide other secrets? "
After further thought, he'll also say, "There's also the little matter of the pawn shop. Its entirely feasible the items were sold by accident, and somebody will be looking for them. This will be particularly so, if these are held to be...erm, 'holy relics' as it were. Cultists are unlikely to sell such such things deliberately, any more than I'd be likely to sell off my Aquila. We need to determine when these items were sold to the shop, and whom sold them."
"While we're at it, we need to know whom has handled the artefacts, and whether they have suffered ill effects as a result. Have any fingerprints been lifted from the objects? Also, we should also look at any case history you may already have in regards to this pawn shop operator. If he has underworld connections, perhaps some are more...'Ruinous' than others. Much as it pains me to suggest, it would be good to examine any case files in regards to any investigations the Arbites have conducted in regards to possible cult activities on Famine."
He'll then look up from the dossier he's reading and glance around at the party. "If anyone else has any ideas of where to start, by all means, please chime in."
(OOC: I'm a little concerned about Huw's total absence. Is his player withdrawing from the game?)
"I am proud, very proud in the presence of the Holy Ordos, to say that no cult activity has occured on Famine during my proctorship. We are an Emperor-fearing people and chew the meat."
"The items are Warp-tainted -- our astropaths have told us this" (PS -- as did Sholmes in the briefing). "Or at least one of them is."
"We have not done, and do not have the capability of doing, tests of the objects of the sort that would require the full presence of the Mechanicus. We are, I am sad to say, a backwater, and our adepts of the Machine God are few in number and untrained in their craft -- even if they did replace my eye."
He grins a half-smile.
"We can do whatever tests you require within our abilities. Superficially speaking, the objects appear to have been carved from common Famine bedrock. I personally doubt that they are of offworld origin -- doubly so since they mock our Blessed Saint of the Meat." (He makes a quick motion over his chest.) "Which bothers me.
"You already have the case file of the pawn shop's proprietor before you."
(I will assume everyone is looking at the file to make things easier. A quick overview -- a more detailed one will require time and some Lore rolls -- shows that the owner of the shop is one Avarus Sneed, a man of 45 years. He has a prison record, and his cousin is Morgan Tharpe -- head of one of the two criminal groups that control Harvest. Picts of the man are included -- he is small, weedy, and mostly bald. For more information, grab the file and ask to make some skill tests.)
"Fingerprints have been taken, of course. We have those of Sneed, the owner of the shop, and one other person."
