Jak Snide wrote:"Man's right." Jim agreed, taking a look at just what Kara was wearing for the first time since they'd landed. "I reckon that pilgrims also tend to favour more modest clothing, miss."

<ooc> she was actually fairly modest until the rain soaked her clothing. Now all bets are off... :) </ooc>

The free fall of the rain and the lightning seemed to have unusually energized Kara. Her eyes were shining as the lightning flashed around them. "I worship the Emperor without regard to my clothing. The Ritual of the Storm should be conducted sky clad but there is no time to conduct it properly." She seemed to calm down a bit at this last and sighed. "I do have a water proof cloak in my gear, but..." she glanced down at her soaking wet clothing; "I doubt if it would help much now."

"I, for one, do not mind the rain," Leveticus will say as the group moves out, away from the shuttle. "It cleanses and nourishes the land, as prayer does for the soul. I've also found it does wonders, aiding in meditation and rest."

As you get closer, you can see that the group is composed of six men, all wearing dark uniforms of some time -- not Arbites uniforms. They have pistols and truncheons holstered at their sides.

One of them yells at you in accented Low Gothic. "New arrivals, get yourselves over here! Check-in time!"

Brother Leveticus looks the welcoming committee over. "They don't look like Arbites," he'll say, "and I'm not sure I care for their appearance or their tone. Best keep our eyes open."

He'll be carefully scrutinizing these guys and try to see what sort of identifying insignias they might have, and any other clues he can glean.

Chani moved towards the men with the calm and composure you'd expect from someone who have absolute confidence of their own abilities. These men were armed, certainly, but so were they, and Chani, although she wouldn't admit it to herself, was itching to practice her blade on live opponents for once, the training routine she had been running occasionally when they'd been aboard the ship lacked the proper tone... it felt as if she was doing scales, not creating.

Kara followed Chani over to the six men with a confident walk. Her earlier enthusiasm contained now in the presence of strangers. She nodded to Chani; "A healthy paranoia is leads to a longer life."

She does take note of the local accent with an ear toward eventually discerning differences between local regions and social classes.

Jim strolled on over, waiting to see what move the enforcers made.

(Just to clarify: Enforcers are not the Arbites, correct?)

Correct. Enforcers are just local law-enforcement, the extent to which they are under direct control of the Adeptus Arbites varying from world to world.

I'll wait for a little to see if Huw has a post; if not, I'll assume he's following along lugging his bags.

Leveticus has it on his person in a water-tight protector of some sort, its just not in plain sight where just anybody can see it. I'm assuming the writ is some sort of parchment scroll like on some of the 40K models, so he would have a scroll case which it would be placed in. His rosette would also be worn, but it would be under his cloak.

"That is exactly what we were thinking," the guy who motioned you over says. "Get into the checkroom newbies. Time to check your docs. Have a long trip?"

Some of the enforcers exchange grins with each other,

One of the other enforcers opens a door and motions for you to go inside. Inside you see a table and a few chairs.

Jim did his best not to glare at the enforcers. He'd seen these sorts before and knew exactly where this was going. Men who took up a badge not to serve but for the power it granted. For all his disagreements with his senior arbitrators they'd seen eye to eye on the matter of such people. They didn't last long in the Adeptus Arbites. The local enforcers, magistratum or what have you; they were another matter.

He tapped Leveticus on the shoulder. "These boys look like they're out to have a little fun at our expense." He muttered. "We going to put the fear of the God-Emperor in them or we going to play along?"

Chani'd managed to keep her clothes relatively dry, 'though her hat was drooping, and she looked paler than usual, the cloak she was wearing chilling her down from all the rain, but with a composed look she stepped inside the room, looking as relaxed as ever as she took off her coat, readjusting her duelists gloves and shaking out some water from her starch-white hair.

(OOC: yes you do have personal papers.)

You file into the room. It's a little thing, about 3 meters on a side, square. There's a chair in the middle with four chairs around it, but not enough space to sit comfortably. Behind them is a file cabinet and another door. Next to the door is a large poster of a young, beautiful woman with a serene expression. She stands, hands outstretched in beckoning or offering, upon what looks like a desert background.

The enforcers march into the room after you and one closes the door.

Spoiler for James:

Spoiler:
You made your Awareness roll. You can hear the locking mechanism in the door engage as it closes. You're locked in the room (assuming the other door is locked.)

Spoiler for Huw:

Spoiler:
You made your Awareness roll. You can hear the locking mechanism in the door engage as it closes. You're locked in the room (assuming the other door is locked.)

Spoiler for Leveticus:

Spoiler:
You made your Awareness roll. You can hear the locking mechanism in the door engage as it closes. You're locked in the room (assuming the other door is locked.)

"Alright," says the one who appears to be in charge. He's in his late 40s with gray hair. "Let's get this started. Have a seat." He himself remains standing (note that there are only four chairs).

One of the other enforcers takes Chani's proffered documents and hands it over to the boss, who looks at the rest of you expectantly.

The guy that took Chani's documents says, "what are you wearing? Is it Cheelah Day all the time where you come from?" He smirks.

Taking a wild guess Kara curtsy's deeply to the poster of the woman; "Praise be the saint."

<ooc> Have we seen pictures of the saint? </ooc>

Kara pulls out her documents from her leather pouch and being careful not to get them wet hands them to the nearest enforcer. "We are blessed to be on the world of the saint."

You say artists' representations of Altheria when you were doing your research. It being uncertain if there ever was such a person, artists' interpretations vary. But she is usually depicted in some variant of the pose on the poster.

The enforcer takes your papers and passes them to his boss at the table.

"Saint? What? Oh yeah, whatever," the one who took your papers says. He doesn't seem too interested.

"Yeah it's her. Sit down, we don't got all day."

His fingers thrum idly on the grip of the truncheon on his belt.

The seemingly head enforcer says, "leave your bags on the ground you lot. They need going through."

"Who here's in charge?"

I forgot to mention that the room has no windows by the way, It's lit by a little bulb in the ceiling. It also seems somewhat soundproofed; you can barely hear the rain and thunder outside.

Note that, if they start going through your bags, they will come across, among other things, Huw's frag grenade and Jim's Arbites uniform.

Chani gave the man a somewhat puzzled look, as if he'd spoken a foreign language she could only barely grasp.

Then she gave him a hint of a smile and took off her wide-brimmed hat, putting it down on the table and pulled back her cloak as she sat down, revealing more of her outfit and the elaborate hilt of her blade.

"Are my papers in orders?"

Leveticus will offer a wane smile, and reply, "We'll give them enough rope to hang themselves by. I have little tolerance for thugs, especially those with authority."

The seemingly head enforcer says, "leave your bags on the ground you lot. They need going through."

"Who here's in charge?"

Leveticus will look at the enforcer, and say in a quiet tone, "That would be me. So tell me, do you do this with all your guests, or just special ones? It might explain why tourist season around here is so...slow."

Jim looked lazily around the room as he took his seat. He was no expert in interrogation, that had been the chastigator's specialisation, but he'd picked up enough pointers to figure out that sticking a bunch of people fresh off a space ship into a tight space with harsh lighting wasn't going to disorient them much. He was waiting for Leveticus' prediction to come true, ready to play his Arbites ID should the priest wish to avoid mentioning their master's hand in this. All they needed was to be handed over to the Adeptus Arbites and they'd be clear of this little charade. Until then he'd indulge his insolence a little. Being cooped up on the ship had tried his nerves towards the end.

Leveticus will look toward Jim and give a slight nod (indicating he should present his Arbites badge), before addressing the head enforcer. "There is no reason why things cannot be handled in a civilized fashion. I would strongly suggest you consider adopting a more ... cooperative stance, otherwise matters may take a far more unfortunate turn."

Huw shook more droplets of water off of his arm, and scratched the back of his neck furiously for a moment before going into his pocket and retrieving his documents.

"Hopefully everything is in order. A word of caution to a fellow traveler, the conditions onboard were a bit on the shabby side. Most of use got bit up by mites of some sort. I'd exercise caution diggin' through our garments."

I've been really busy because on top of my standard job I freelance as a translator and I am trying like hell to finish a giant project in the next couple of days so I can go to Crimea, where my girlfriend is waiting for me and yelling at me because I'm not there yet. I really do intend to get everything going on a frequent posting schedule real soon -- I really apologize for all the delays. You guys should be deep in the adventure by this point, not going through customs!)
