"They're gonna do it in the end anyway, you know," Emily said, "Might as well let everyone get it out of their systems now. Think of it as practice."

Mission: 06- Full Moon (Run away, run away, run away!) / Byrd of Hatered.
Deck City: The Database
July 27, 3756.
23:00

It's been two days since Summer Break has started for the Wunderkind. For the last two days, Janet has been pushing a movie marathon tonight, going all through the night and into morning, starting at Midnight. The main event, she says, is the very first movie Kid was ever in, before even her exploits in the extreme games.

The invitations call for people to gather at 11:30 in the theatre, bringing anything they'd like to enjoy a marathon of horror movies more.

Never having been much for horror films, Sam doesn't have anything with him; he's not even really sure what to expect out of the movies except a bunch of scary things happening. Still, he's one of the first to show up, getting to the theater well before it's supposed to start, and looking around for Janet a bit sleepily; he's never been up this late before, it's going to be so cool!

Enzo showed up shortly after Sam, carrying something with him. More accurately, he was pulling along a red wagon, which held a fairly good sized watermelon, some grapes and apples and oranges, and a comically big tub of popcorn. He'd had the Database make the popcorn for him, but the rest was a surprise. Not just for the others, but for him too. He hadn't tried it yet, but he had a good feeling!

Alexis hadn't seen a single horror-flick in her entire life, but she was looking forward to it with a child's innocence. She wasn't scared, obviously, not yet, so she'd brought with her Cheese-crooks©, tiny, vaguely humanoid-shaped pieces of crusty cheese-fluff. She had a mountain of crook-bags carried in one hand, the other holding Percival close. She also had a slip, a notice good for a beanbag, which was something she'd figured out during her programming exercises. She didn't know if they normally had access to it, but this thing should, theoretically, reprogram the closet to hand out beanbags.

Emily wasn't really a huge fan of horror movies, but since that was the designated group activity, she went along with it. Besides, the selections shouldn't be too terrifying, given the age group. Probably more along the lines of the old stuff with the obviously fake effects. She had decided to bring along a wide selection of canned fizzy drinks, always a vital component of any movie marathon in her experience.

Oh man, a horror flick marathon! Silvie was psyched. She assumed everybody had the movie situation taken care of, so she just packed her back full of goodies - liter bottles of cola and rootbeer, big bags of gummi worms and fruit rings (the sour kind, not that lame bland kind), chips of the potato, nacho, and corn variety, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Busters. Oh, and she also had a pillow. So she could get super comfy.

Hell yeah! Movie night! This sort of thing was right up Max's alley. He showed up at the theater with a giant glass bowl in which is sitting the biggest bag of snack mix any of the kids have probably ever seen. He's also got a backpack full of party supplies like plastic cups, plasticware and paper bowls and plates, because for some reason no one ever thinks to bring that stuff.

Janet stands by the door to the theater, helping get things set up as the other children enter.

As they do, they notice that it's name is accurate; it's a movie theater, plain and simple. More accurately, the children are within a media program, designed specifically to enhance the quality of video files.

"I've got a pretty good lineup." Janet says. "It's mostly horror...But, I'm not heartless. Even if we don't technically have bodies." She laughs at her own joke, as the others find their seats- Large, plush seats with drink holders and adjustable arms. "If you're getting honestly too scared, your personal theater will queue up some old Walton classics, like Bambino, and some of the newer stuff that's good too."

She gestures again at the large, wide screen. "The real event tonight is, with some help from my handler, and Mr. Rivendare, I managed to find the VERY FIRST movie that our dear sister Kid was ever in!"

It's hard to tell in the dim lighting, but Kid manages to become even more pale, sinking into her seat and tugging at her ears nervously, as Janet continues. "I'm going to give a few more minutes for the stragglers to get here. And-" She looked towards the door, lowering her voice some. "Hopefully nobody told Juliet."

Enzo was going to comment sarcastically that of course no one would, but he couldn't help but notice Kid... It was his job to notice things, after all. Rather than put her on the spot in front of everyone, he messages her privately:

Hey, you ok?

Sam waves to Janet as they head in, and takes a seat about in the middle of the theater before turning back to her. "What kinda movies are these like, anyway? I never saw any like this before, all I know is they're really scary an' stuff."

Max was in the back, setting his snacks and supplies on a table that he's glad is there. It didn't occur to him that tables aren't necessarily standard equipment for theaters.

"Man. Kid's first movie. Wow, that's obscure! I've actually never seen it. This is gonna be great!"

Max tosses his empty backpack under the table, and heads over to Kid to give her a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

"Hey, don't sweat it. I'm sure it's cheese-tastic, but you gotta start somewhere, right? The first time you do anything is never your best. I'm sure an athlete like you already knows that. You gotta work on your skills, and you gotta prove that you've got them so people will put you in better stuff, right? So, look at it as an incredibly embarrassing but important stepping stone on the path to your more recent successes!"

Alexis was really excited, so much she could barely sit down in her seat. Kid's first movie!? Aaaaaawesome!

She was feeling much more confident recently, even though she wasn't using the ice-chip at the moment... but she couldn't get rid of that damn stutter, it was really annoying.
So when everyone was speaking, she sent a little private tell to Kid.

I think it's going to be awesome. and it's cool that you've been in so many movies... I've never been in one!

She meant the last bit as supportive, it was awesome that Kid had been in movies, even if they weren't good, which she didn't know if they were!

Enzo nodded at Kid's reply, and went to sit down. He wasn't going to badger her, even if she was obviously just trying to not talk about it. It never worked to bother people over and over, so... well, if she wanted to talk about it later, she would, right? Probably?

"I'm not late am I?" a worried voice yelled into the room, barely arriving before its owner, Lauren, who was traveling at full XLR8-enhanced speed. She increased the friction on her side just a nudge, enough to send her into a sharp J turn towards the wall next to the door she entered by, then jumped into the air and kicked off the wall to kill her momentum. Yeah, there were easier ways to stop, but none of them were quite as fun!

"I don't want to miss any--oh, cool, popcorn!" She hopped into the seat next to Enzo. "You know, it's been ages since I came to an actual theater!"

Silvie expected something more like a sleepover, but other than the fact that her pillow was now dead weight, this was even better. She dug through her bag for snacks, and said, "Yeah, me too Lauren. I haven't been to the movies since the hospital."

She paused, but in a moment her head jerked back up, smile on her face. "I mean, I was just stuck with like DVDs and stuff," she continued, her voice cheerful, if a bit tight. "Not really the same, right?"

Sam nods to both of them. "My family used to go to the movies a lot, but I haven't been in a while either. This is gonna be fun! Oh, and that thing you just did was really cool Lauren." He grins, before looking a bit confused. "Hey, where's Leafshade? Isn't he gonna watch too?"

Mission: 06- Full Moon / Byrd of Hatred.
Deck City: The Database
July 27, 3756.
23:55

There's a bit more waiting, as Janet begins queuing up the movies and everyone gets settled in. Silvie's pillow makes her especially comfy, though, and the first movie begins- Something light, yet still in the 'scary' vein, Wicked Deceased. The opening credits begin rolling, and then, at exactly midnight, there is an awful, awful sound over the children's comm-links.

Rrrrrraaaaaaaaaaarrrgggghhh!

The voice is unmistakably Juliet's, and she sounds like she's either in a lot of pain, or very, very angry at something.

Maybe she stubbed her toe?

Enzo:
Spoiler:
Juliet's status has just gone from green to red.

Sam jumps as he's pulled out of the movie, looking around for a second and wondering if real zombies are about to attack or something, before he realizes the scream was from their comms. "...Um...maybe we should go check on her? That didn't sound like an angry scream really..."

When Juliet screamed, Silvie shrieked and clutched her pillow tight -

...not that she was scared or anything like that. O-of course she wasn't scared! She let go of her pillow, and said, "Er...that really, really wasn't an angry scream..."

Enzo all but jumped, between the sound and the extra data accompanying it. That... well, it had to be a mistake. They were in the database. And that meant safe, right?

"Something's... Something might be wrong. Let me check on her..."

His eyes unfocused as he sent her a private message.

Juliet? What happened? Where are you?

Alexis didn't spare much time. Sure, she and Juliet had been in a fight last time they saw each other, but family was family! And if she was hurt they needed to help her!

So she set off as fast as she could towards Juliet's room!

So much for movie night, Emily reflected as she set off towards Juliet's room herself. It was probably a good thing it'd been interrupted early on. If she'd heard that blood-curdling scream later in the proceedings, she probably would've completely freaked out. As it was, she didn't think it portended anything good. Either Juliet had spontaneously made that noise for the hell of it, or something had happened to her. On balance, the second possibility was far more likely. Especially since she wasn't answering. No, not reassuring at all.

The children rush to Juliet's room to see what's wrong. As they approach from the hallway, they all hear a horrible noise of metal being wrenched...Before there's a loud crash, as Juliet's huge, metal bound book goes flying through her bedroom wall, bouncing off of the next in he hallway and hitting the ground with a heavy thud.

A moment later, Juliet steps out of her room, except she's not quite how they remember her. Her hair, formerly shoulder length, has darkened a shade and now has streaks of black in it, as well as reaching her lower back, despite being done up in a very spiky, thin ponytail. Her eyes, as the children can't help but zoom in on them, are not human; yellow in color with an animal shape to them. Her suit's the same, except her build has changed; she's gone from plain to athletic in record time, and has grown at least three inches in height. Finally they notice her hands; her fingers aren't the nice, round gloves they're used to. She's got nasty, hooked, very sharp talons now.

She looks at the group slack-jawed for a moment, before she slowly grins, displaying a new set of very, very sharp teeth. "Cool." She growls. "Lunch is here."

Max really wasn't eager to end movie night to go check on some holier-than-thou scripture-thumper, especially if other people were already on it. He got more serious about it after Enzo mentioned Juliet's change in status.

And now this. Immediately, Max is annoyed. He considers expressing exasperation at the relentless onslaught of fantastic elements in their lives recently: digital life-forms, zombies, magic, superheroes... but then he remembered that he himself had said the kids were going to have to get used to weird stuff becoming commonplace in their new lives as Wunderkind.

He shrugs.

"So... I guess we've gone from zombies to a creature feature. Anyone got any silver?"

Kid makes her way to the front of the group, putting herself between Byrd and the others.

"Hey!"

Silvie ran up beside Kid, her fists raised, and shouted, "Leave them alone!"

Truth be told, she didn't know what was going on - no, no, she knew exactly what was going on. She'd seen this a million times, in comics and movies and video games. Whatever was here right now, it was not Juliet.

"So wait, you're a were-kid-who-goes-by-their-middle-name? That's a strange transformation."

Max checks the database to make sure it was her middle name and not her last name... and notices a new entry? Did Juliet spawn some kind of indistinct zoomorph instead of turning into one? That... that doesn't jive with his (admittedly limited) knowledge of zoanthropy at all. Although it does with her use of "me" and "us." Max opens a channel with all Wunderkind who aren't currently feral.

Hey, guys, the DB is showing a new entry for Byrd. I thought it might just be giving us an update on her stats, but she's got a unique serial number:0001. And talking about "getting rid of 'me' by making 'us' Wunderkind... Enzo, can you confirm if this is not, in fact, Juliet? And if not... is she ok?
