Not getting a clear shot before, Sam watches for a good opportunity. When the apparent ice-zombie stands distracted at just who it is she's facing, he takes the opportunity, snapping off a short blast before falling back into cover besides the APC.

Alexis stands her ground, her body would have quivered if she was still alive, the tension palpable in the air... but now she was a wunderkind... and she'd trained for this. The girl they were facing was... she was some sort of science-project-thing... well, that means she's not human... or she's working for someone who made her... or...

"spotting Sam setting up to fire at the girl, she made to move a little towards her, hoping to keep her distracted from noticing Sam.

"S-So what?" she felt her cheeks light up a bit. Why couldn't she keep from stammering? "w-w-we're going to s-s-su-stop you anyway!"

Having seen the ease with which Winterstorm had deflected or survived eveything thrown at her thus far, Emily contented herself with leveling her rifle, refraining from firing for so long as the zombie was talking.

"What, so you think you're going to end the time of man without ending the time of kids as well?" she asked.

"Stop me from doing what, exactly?" The zombie says. "You don't even actually know what I'm going to do yet." She shifts her weight, clearly not taking the situation seriously. "And another thing, kiddos. You should leave spandex to the people who can fill it out. And the underpants go on the INSIDE. And another thin-"

As she mocks them, Sam gets his opportunity, and shoots. The bullet catches her in the shoulder, and as it enters, the wound immediately freezes over, and the zombie spins on her heel a few times from the force. She stops, rebalancing and looking very, very angry.

"Okay, twerps. I'll go easy on you, because you're just a bunch of stupid little kids who can't even dress right. But I'm going to teach you one thing tonight!"

She falls into a fighting stance, as the rain suddenly begins to freeze, turning to snow. "Don't mess with an Angel, kids!"

(Combat has begun! I will have a map up shortly. You may make your initial moves, and I'll GM them all at the same time.)

Loading another round into the chamber, Sam leans out from the APC and lets another shot fly, hoping for a better result from the strike this time around.

Enzo scrambled out of his seat after the vehicle had come to a halt. He needed a moment to compose himself, and in the meantime his brothers and sisters had already jumped into action. It was his turn, now, but the best he could do at the moment was to pull up some references on the chant Winterstorm had intoned. Ettazan. So that's what she was calling herself then? He did a quick search and came up with reference material almost immediately. He belatedly registered the change in orders and realized the girls would be here soon... or already were. Alright then.

Ettazan. The Angel of Retribution in Imperial Legend. Legends suggest her favored tactic is to freeze a foe solid and shatter them. Until we know more I advise against prolonged physical contact.

He tried to form a plan, but it wasn't coming quickly. He stepped out of the vehicle... where it was snowing?

"Don't mess with an Angel, kids!"

He looked Ettazan over visually, willing any sensors he had to start actively scanning their assailant.

Blah blah blah!

Silvie climbed out of her ATP and jumped to the highway, before she looked over to Ettazen and the boys. Somebody needs to shut her up! And angels aren't zombies - she's just calling herself that to sound cool!

Back to shutting her up. Silvie narrowed her eyes, before she ran down the highway and took a flying leap towards Ettazen in an attempt to tackle her off the ATP.

Ettezan is tackled off of the APC, landing with Silvie on top of her. It takes the zombie a minute to register what happened, before she looks down at Silvie. "Girls, too? Who's dressing you kids!?"

Alexis finds it difficult to remain with the VIP, but she needs to... it doesn't feel right, Ettezan's barely done anything... just a lot of talk... if she's alone here, that means she's strong enough to handle them... either way, she's not going to underestimate this foe. She uses the opportunity to mark her as an enemy... not really necessary, but it might help the ranged wunderkind to aim in on her.

Well, there went any opportunity for Emily to get a clear shot. Shrugging, she waited patiently for Ettazen to throw Silvie off (it was bound to happen) before taking her shot.

Well... that sword is wedged in there pretty good. Can't really do much else to it from here. Guess it's time to get to fightin'.

Max bolts out of the APC and heads back behind it with Sam. He then takes stock of the landscape to see if there's a nearby balcony or rooftop, or, failing that, road sign, that might make a good sniping perch.

Being able to fly is a fantastic ability for a sniper.

Ettezan stands, dragging Silvie with her, and easily hoisting the girl, despite her several hundred pounds of metallic body. "What the hell? What are you, Hot dog Girl? You little superheroes are in well over your head."

She places Silvie on the ground with one hand, she crosses with the other, delivering a hard right hook to Silvie's jaw. Thankfully, though, the damage is minimal.

However, as soon as Silvie's away, a volley of gunfire comes down on Ettezan. Every bullet hits, seeming to penetrate her leather, before Darren's rocket swerves around the side, knocking Ettezan completely off her feet, slamming her into the APC and knocking her on the ground. With Enzo providing assisted targeting for the children, as well as the painting of Alexis's mark, the kids put on a show of being perfect marksmen.

Meanwhile, Max finds himself a nice overhanging highway sign to set up shop in.

(Battle map's updated! You should be able to tell by your name and colors where you are on it. If you have questions, let me know. Literally every shot CRITS, Ettezan is knocked on the ground, though it's hard to be sure if she's getting up. Silvie takes 2 damage from being punched in the jaw.

Koss: I acted as if that Lauren is holding position right now, next time you post go ahead and have her make two actions.)

Moving a bit further to his left, Sam keeps his rifle centered on Ettazan, keeping his distance but waiting to see if she's still a threat before he fires off another shot. She's down, after all; she might already be out of the fight.

Yeah, definitely really strong, Lauren thought to herself as she climbed out of the vehicle.

"Going in for a hit and run, better safe than sorry" she sent over the link, then signed off to focus her own thoughts. She took a deep breath. This would be just like dad taught her. It was about one thing. Control.

Lauren started to run, her pigtails bobbing behind her, with Ambassador Leafshade clinging to her shoulder with an iron grip.

Control yourself. To control yourself, control your fear.

Lauren sniffed disdainfully as she came to a stop and raised her right leg above Ettazan. "You're no angel," she said quietly.

Make your opponent lose control. To make your opponent lose control...did zombies even feel pain? That really wasn't fair. Lauren frowned as she brought her heel down hard, towards Ettazan's knee.

Control the fight.

She raised her leg for a second strike. "You're nothing but a bully."

To control the fight...

Lauren stomped as hard as she could towards Ettazan's head.

...remove your opponent. Do whatever it takes to defend yourself or others.

Lauren ran back towards her vehicle, hoping to avoid retaliation and clear the way for the others.

Max balances atop his road sign perch with an ease that never would have come to him in his past life. It should probably be a little unsettling, but it just feels so natural. He's not sure exactly where to aim, since this is his first real-world target, and since it's all fleshy. Even though he's fairly sure he's in no danger of actually killing an enemy this strong, he decides to aim for an extremity rather than a head shot or a chest shot, just to test out the kind of damage his rifle is capable of. Specifically, her right arm, since that's the one she was holding her sword with.

Max contemplates taking the shot while she's down, but as he's aiming, he considers what their opponent said just a couple seconds ago. Still focusing on his aim, he decides to address her. He'll wait 'til she gets up to shoot her.

"So, ice lady, I guess it's true that we don't really know what it is we're attempting to stop you from doing. Other than kicking our asses, obviously. Why don't you fill us in? What are you trying to do?"

What? What was with all the chatter? I mean, ok, some of the other kids were saying things that were fun to hear considering this person had attacked them, but still. Enzo kept quiet, continuing to help the other kids by aiding their targeting where possible, correcting trajectories for all the crowding the others were starting to do. He set up an alarm to warn the others if they were wandering into another child's line of fire.

Emily had to admit she was curious about the answer to Max's question herself. She her both her fire and her peace for the time being, waiting for Ettazan to resume hotilities. Nobody had raised the possibility of surrender yet, and she didn't think the zombie/angel/whatever was quite ready to entertain the idea just yet, despite being heavily outnumbered.

Had they done it?

She felt a chill run down her spine... No, no it didn't feel right... She glanced over at the others, nervous, shifting her feet... what now?

Careful... I don't think this is going to be enough... is anyone watching out for others?

Remembering it herself, she gazed out into the rain, ready and waiting for any reinforcement that might come.

Lauren got her kick to the zombie's knee off flawlessly, Lauren picking up a very sharp crack...though it sounded more like ice than bone.

She brought her foot down...Just as Ettezan rolled out of the way, and Lauren beat her quick retreat. Ettezan rolls, sliding onto her knees, and..Skidding across the highway. Enzo picks up a thin coating of ice on the knee pads now. She stands, clenching a fist in front of her face. "I get it. It makes sense now. You're not human!"

She lowers her fist, bringing her shoulder forward. "You..You're just like me. Just. Like. Me. Hah! HAH! No, you're not like me!"

She raises her hands into the air. "Now, you little super heroes! Now! Now! Now! Now! Now you'll feel the hatred of twenty-six tortured souls!"

Her fists begin to glow blue, as she twists her knee, flinching from Lauren's blow, and slams her fist into the ground. "Howling blast!"

For a moment, time seems to slow.

Emily fires off a shot, trying to interrupt whatever's happening.

A wall of white forms around Ettezan, swirling it's way outward.

All the Wunderkind have enough time to shield themselves behind cover, or at least an arm.

A freezing gale washes over the squad. Each gets a warning from their HUDs- Atmospheric temperature dangerously low. Armor efficiency greatly reduced at temperatures approaching absolute zero.

As their visual sensors return, all the children can see that it seems like the area was hit by a very contained storm, but a furious one at that...Or, alternatively, like a bomb had gone off. There's a definite ground zero where Ettezan had been standing, with everything else covered in at least an inch of frost- Including any unshielded parts of the kids themselves.

Both APCs are coated in ice, and on the far ends, sideways icicles are shooting out several inches, up to a foot.

And Ettezan is nowhere to be found, and her sword is gone. In her place lays a beautiful rose, sculpted expertly out of thick, strong ice. And three feet away from where she was standing...A bullet, frozen in mid air, with no visible means of support.

Enzo, Alexis:
Spoiler:
As the Howling Blast detonates, a short movie file uploads itself to your drives. It's a short clip, featuring a young girl in tattered clothing, with light blue skin and icicle laiden hair, carrying a white, rime covered stuffed bunny by it's ears. She glares directly at you, before turning and walking off into the blizzard. The clip ends there.

Sam blinks, shaking off the frost as his systems struggle to warm him back up.

"...Okay she's really weird. But I think we won? 'Cause she ran away, so I think that means we won. Oh right! Is the VIP okay?" He turns to look off in the direction of their vehicle, past the APCs, suddenly concerned that maybe something happened while they were all distracted. "Enzo, are they okay?"

Wow. That was... unexpected.

"Well, I don't know I'd say that we won, exactly, but we didn't really lose, either."

Max had fallen back behind the road sign holding on with his left hand, using the sign as a shield against the freeze-blast. His fingers are a little frosty, but otherwise, he makes it out relatively unscathed. He tries to hoist himself back up on top of the sign, but the extreme cold made the metal brittle, and it creaks for a second before snapping. He's able to activate his boosters well before he would have hit the ground, but it was still a little scary. Should have seen it coming, though.

Max puts his rifle away on his back as he lands. He wipes the frost off his left hand.

"Yes, well, I'd suggest we check on our VIP and get the Hell out of here. This cold makes me feel vulnerable, and I don't like it."

Max looks up and is able to survey the situation. It was a mess, but their foe had been strong enough to do significantly more damage. Why the Hell was an 'angel' channeling tortured souls, anyway? They got off lucky, this time. Next time...

Wait, what?

Max walks over to Emily's bullet, suspended in midair, puzzling over it. That didn't even make sense.

He's compelled to poke it.

That was ...that was something all right. Silvie remained frozen, more because of nerves than their enemy's unique skills, before she finally snapped out of it.

"Yeah, we should check on him," she agreed, "But what are we gonna do about the APCs?"

"Ours should be okay," Emily said, "It's just a coat of ice, and these things are built tough. I don't know about the boys' though. I mean, it had a great enormous sword poking out of it." She considered for a moment, "First order of business is getting the VIP to safety. We can always have somebody come back for the APC." That Ettazan had been able to break off the engagement so easily wasn't exactly reassuring. It suggested that next time, she'd be able to attack at a time when the odds were more in her favour, and still get away if things went against her. Not reassuring at all.

Alexis had only barely managed to cover her eyes with one of her arms as the blast hit, her entire forehead covered in frost, and even her eyelashes felt heavy and uncomfortable... breathing out slowly she seemed to... stare at the same point for a while before she snapped out of it, giving a little yell and running up to Lauren, more snow-like frost falling from her hair and uniform.

"L-Lauren!" she yelled, afraid the girl might've been hurt during the struggle with the zombie. She tried to shake away her thoughts, and what she'd seen... that girl... was she like them?

Before we leave we should try to get the boys' APC working again she sent out, almost absentmindedly, [i]We can't just leave it back here.[/i[

Enzo didn't react immediately. However, as the kids started to go back and forth, and Alexis asked about the boys' team's wrecked APC, he cut in.

Leave it. I'm sure Janet can relay to headquarters that it's not working and needs to be moved, while we focus on getting the VIP to D52 before anything else happens. Everyone load up and let's get out of here.

By way of example, he started heading for the girls' APC.

Speaking of, how are things over there Janet?

You've got a chopper on it's way out to you. They want to bring us back in for inspection and repairs as quickly as they can. The VIP was impressed though; he's waiting for you here too. The APCs'll be cleaned up as quick as they can, but it's out of our hands. Janet says.

Enzo stopped midway to the APC. Well, that handled things nicely then.

"Or not. Ok."

He turned around to wait... and was that a bullet floating in mid-air? What? He quickly took a video capture of it, feeding that to Janet. He watched as Max went to poke it, unsure if he should stop him or not. He got closer to it himself, to get a better shot.

What... what is this?

Max pokes the floating bullet, causing it to slide...about an inch to it's left, but still remain in the air.

That's...Weird. Janet says back, responding to the picture. We..Might want to grab that.

Umm... yeah. Can do.

Well, the bullet doesn't seem to want to move according to its own physics, but it seems relatively willing to be moved by Max, so... he collects it for future research. Hopefully it continues to be interesting after being removed from extreme cold. For a moment, Max holds the bullet between his thumb and forefinger, and examines it. Other than feeling unusually light, it pretty much looks and feels like a regular bullet. Weird.

As he puts the bullet away, Max glances at the ice rose. It's sculpted in impressive detail. It's even more impressive considering how quickly it was made. He crouches down to get a better look at it.

What about this thing?

I think we should either leave it or destroy it... Alexis responds, a frown visible on her face.

Why would she leave something nice behind, unless she wants us to take it? She's a bad guy, right?

She looked towards the rose for a little while, then shook her head, as if trying to clear her mind of something. Then she seemed to hear what Enzo and Janet had said, and she breathed a sigh of relief, kicking a few slowly warming shards of ice a short bit.

It feels kind of like we lost anyway. She just left, and one of the APCs is totalled...

I'm fine. Everything's okay over here. Lauren sent as she emerged from behind a bit of rubble and surveyed the scene. Okay, so...what do we know? She has ice powers, she's really strong, she had a big sword... Lauren looked over to the frozen APC. Aww, I was hoping we'd get to keep that...and she leaves behind magical floating bullets? And....is that a flower?

Lauren pushed away from the rubble and slid over to the flower. Huh. There was a character in a comic I read that liked to leave flowers around...come to think of it, he had a motorcycle too. I wonder if she reads the same comics I do...

The kids could pick up a distant whir of choppers heading their way from D-52 headquarters. Finally, for the first time since their conversion to Wunderkind, they could get a good look at it.

Called "The Deck", and simply that, D-52s corperate headquarters dwarfed the rest of the city. A giant glass pyramid, the building easily took up more than a city block, with the rest of the city being built around it. At night, especially now with the once again pouring rain, it stood out as a beacon, an impossibly bright flood light shooting into the sky as a column, keeping the rest of the city decently lit during the night time hours.

However, their attention might be drawn back to the APC, as there's a loud clang, and the crack of ice breaking off. It seems a man has made his entry to the scene, jumping atop the APC and looking down on the battlezone.

He wears very nice, expensive looking shoes made of very high quality, polished leather. His pants and overcoat are a very rich, plush shade of purple, and he's got a matching fedora he holds to his head against the wind. His shirt, similarly purple, is clearly made of silk, and like the rest of his attire, clearly cost a pretty penny to make. With his hat being held down, it's impossible to see his eyes. But, the very pointy brown beard he has hanging off his chin, trimmed to pointy perfection, might be enough.

"Well then! Quite the show, children, quite the show! "Little powerless are thy miracles, indeed!"

The man jumps down, raising his fedora a bit, so the kids can finally see his eyes. He's got...a look about him. An energy that may make them a touch jumpy. Something about this guy speaks to them, saying "This guy likes purple. Also look out."

"Good job with that one. Looks like she's left behind a couple of trinkets. Now, under the international law established in the case of Finders versus Keepers, they're yours, of course. But, I'd like to see if I could lighten them from your hands, in exchange for some credits. How does that sound?"

...As the man spoke, the children's databases tried desperately to access data, until finally giving up.

Sam just looks befuddled at this weird dandy appearing out of nowhere, lowering his rifle; someone this weird couldn't be a threat, could he? "Um...how come you want them? It's just an ice rose and a weird floaty bullet, right? Hey, an' where'd you come from anyway? Who are you?"

"W-who are you?" Alexis aped after Sam, frowning and putting her hands on her hips. Whoever this... this... dandy was, he should think twice before just showing up and, uh, asking politely if he could have stuff!

"Wuh-what kind of cuh-credit are you t-talking about anyway...?" she gave the others a glance... maybe this wasn't really proper, acknowledging this guy's demands... but she was pretty sure the selling of battlefield artifacts wasn't something she'd been trained to do.

All things considered, Emily felt it was probably best not to pick a fight with the new arrival. She did hope though that not everyone they met was going to be appearing out of or disappearing into thin air. At any rate, avoiding a fight wasn't precisely the same thing as caving in.

"What are we, aspiring capitalists?" she asked indignantly, "I don't think we need credits all that much."

"I'm a...Collector of sorts." The man replies, taking off his hat and bowing. "Call me Yuri."

With a deft maneuver, he spins his hat, placing it back on his head again. "I have interest in artifacts and memorabilia. And, I can tell you, this stuff is going to be worth a credit or two when your names are all up in lights."

He turns his head to look at Emmy as she speaks, before shrugging. "You work for D-52. Of course you're aspiring capitalists in one way or another. But, if that's the way you want it..."

He flicks his wrist, and suddenly has a Flare Drive in hand. "I could also offer you this."
