Infinite StaircaseWith preparations complete, the two parties head out from the Guild landing, soon making their separate ways along the Staircase. Phelan's group heads up for a mere hour before reaching their destination; a landing made of solid ice, and an archway of same, leading out to the hovering city of Tiera Minuut, a burg in the border realm of Precipice, and the only city of any note on the Paraelemental Plane of Ice. The frigid climate of the plane hits them even before they pass through to the far side, a small alcove in back of an ice-sculpting exhibit, showing work of the city's most renown artists. Not the pathway Phelan himself used to reach the Staircase, of course, but a good deal more direct.
Outside the museum, the protective dome glitters both nearby and overhead, the only thing keeping the city at a balmy 40 degrees. Far above, the endless skies of the plane of Air stretch infinitely, while out and past the nearby edge, the glacial plains of Ice reach out for the horizon miles below the floating, frozen disk. Rather than an undifferentiated flat tundra, the land below is marked with innumerous features - mountains of ice miles tall,
ridges of frozen waves, and fields of pointed spires resembling upside-down icicles.
Within the city itself, not much activity fills the streets; it seems still early morning here, and most of those out and about seem to be people getting ready for the needs of the coming day. Coal and wood deliveries, people bringing groceries back to their homes, promotional flyers replaced and posted in the windows of the clay and stone storefronts, broadsheets stacked and ready for purchase. The residents appear human for the most part, which is perhaps expected; this isn't exactly a city for locals, after all.
Eletta's group on Air goes here.
