Max looks at Sylvie with a mixture of enthusiasm and confusion. "Okay, I like the whole ferret-steed thing, but... fly Janet out? Out where, exactly?"

"The bus?" Silvie let the sword rest against the ground, still gripping it with one hand, and scratched the back of her head with the other

"Sorry," she said, "I thought you said that's where you wanted her."

"Fly her... to the bus? You mean, the one that's like, right there?" Max points to their entry point, which isn't actually all that far from the rubble. "It wasn't the location that had me confused, it was the flight. I really don't think flying will be necessary, especially if she's tiny."

Max then turns to Lauren. "So how 'bout it, Lauren? You think you can shrink Janet? You want some help with that?"

While Emily heads down the corridor, Sam waves her and Darren off, watching as they head deep into the building. Once they're nearly out of sight, he turns to Kid, shrugging. "Sorry you got stuck guarding after all, 'cause I know it's not very exciting an' all. But we gotta watch out for Enzo, it's an important job. You aren't mad or anything, are you?"

Kid shrugs, and begins bouncing from foot to foot, punching at the air. "Nah, there's worse things, y'know? I don't mind guardin'. Especially 'cuz when there's stuff like this happenin', somethin's bound t' happen."

Lauren took a deep breath. "I think I can do this." She bit her lip and shook her head. That wasn't the way to do it, was it? "No, I can do this." Lauren closed her eyes and put a hand on Janet's shoulder. Ambassador Leafshade scurried up beside her to rest a paw on Janet's opposite shoulder.

Okay, let's start this easy. Lauren tried to think Janet small, sort of mentally asking the world for permission first.

Janet snorts in her sleep, shifting position, before beginning to compress.

There's no errors this time, thankfully, and Janet compresses small enough to fit conveniently into one of her siblings hands within a minute. And even better, Lauren isn't even tired!

"Awesome! Way to go, Lauren! Nothing to worry about."

Max kneels next to tiny Janet and, with the care and delicacy typically reserved for surgery or preserving of fragile antiquities, picks up his sister and places her in his palm. It was a... unique experience, holding a friend in your hand. It inspires carefulness he doesn't often observe outside a machine shop.

"Um... okay. So, I'll get Janet into one of the beds on the bus. You guys go ahead and shrink and work your way through the rubble. I'll catch up with you on the other side."

Max gingerly carries Janet over to the point at which they entered the system, and even more gingerly sets her down. He then compresses himself, and carries her in to the bus the only way any man in a movie carries any woman; draped across his arms. It's not as easy as it looks. With effort, he manages to carry her back to one of the bunks, where he sets her down a bit less gingerly than before.

"I gotta stop carrying people."

After making sure Janet has a pillow under her head, Max heads out of the bus, decompresses, and takes flight, heading over the ruined building his teammates are in.

Hey, you guys good in there? I didn't think about it, but if you want, I can shrink down and trudge through there with you.

Silvie looked away, feeling embarrassed for the second time in less than ten minutes, before she forces a smile on her face and turns back to Lauren.

"So, uh, how small should we be for Leafshade, you think?"

Lauren and Ambassador Leafshade looked at eachother for a moment. Whatever passed between them was on a different channel from the normal Wunderkind comms.

"Ambassador Leafshade says it's a pretty tight fit for her, so it would probably be a good idea for her to get a bit smaller before we ride on in. Small enough so we can all fit on her back should be fine, and if we're too heavy for her she'll let me know."

Lauren grinned hugely. "This is going to be the coolest thing ever."

Alexis looked at all the shrinking, and handling, and riding, and lifting, and blinked. Well, it was obvious what she was going to do..

Or at least, obvious to the others. Realizing that no one'd answered her question, she merely shrugged and started walking around the large area, occasionally trying to get a grip on one of the walls, or climb a lamp-post, or something.

Mind you, she did keep her eyes open for anything.

"Yes, yes it is- oh! But I wonder if I can shrink this, too."

And with that, Silvie looked down forlornly on her glorified meat cleaver.

Hearing no response from his team, Max continues his flight over the rubble, and waits for them on the other side. It looks remarkably like the previous side.

Standing around by himself, Max decides to get in a little practice with that whole 'manipulation of digital matter' thing he experienced with Enzo. There's plenty of raw material around, what with the fallen, crumbled building. He doesn't expect it'll take too long for his team to get there, and he's not expecting any miracles anyway, so he decides to keep his concept small and simple. He thinks about creating a link in a bike chain, but decides that would take far too much refinement time. Instead, he tries to see if he can reshape a chunk of rubble into a sphere.

It's a little hard to focus to the necessary degree in the middle of a mission, but it's a skill Max finds fascinating, and certainly one that will require lots of practice.

On the north side of the rubble, Silvie manages to shrink her cleaver, though she got the idea that without so much of it's heft, it would be...Ineffective, at best. Now it was a matter of the girls shrinking themselves and making their way through the rubble.

On the south side, Max manages to get a sphere of rock in hand, having only minimal trouble manipulating it into that form.

-------

At the north building, things are quiet. Darren and Emmy walk through the halls for a good five minutes, before the hall stops, forming a T with another hall cutting it short. Now they can go left or right...And there's not much of an indicator on which way should be taken.

Hoping that Kid'll turn out to be right, Sam peers about, keeping his eyes peeled for any signs of approaching bad guys or anything like it. Quickly, though, with nothing in sight, he starts to grow bored, heading back over to Enzo to take a seat next to him. He looks over to Kid, rubbing his arms as he keeps them crossed. "So are you startin' to feel better about all this stuff, Kid? It's fun, isn't it? I hadta get used to it all too 'cause it was so different, but it's great now. I keep wonderin' what it'll be like once we're all really good with stuff, 'cause with how good it is now, it'll hafta be awesome then! I'm kinda wonderin' what havin' a robot body'll be like too. D'you think it'll feel the same?"

"Nah." Kid says, falling back, and springing forward again. "It'll feel the same, but that's only because we'll already be used to it, prolly."

She spins, holding her hands vertical, before thrusting her palm forward, using her Buddhist Palm attack on the wall.

...And causing a small segment about the size of her fist to crack and fall away. She nervously looks at Enzo, speechless.

"...Wow!" Sam jumps back to his feet, grinning. "That was awesome! Did you see that? You just slapped the wall and it broke! That's so cool, Kid! Just imagine if any bad guys come here, we'll be able to stop them no problem!" He picks up the chunk of wall, looking it over. "Is that what your fighting is, martial arts an' stuff? That's pretty neat. I'm an archer, I shoot stuff. Not like Darren, though. I use laser guns an' stuff."

Emily simply shrugged at the dilemna and picked the right hand path. No sense in getting worked up about it, since both looked pretty much the same. There really ought to be an elevator somewhere, but then, this wasn't the outside world, so who knew what the rules were?

Well, it didn't matter how useful it is now; the important thing is that it's small enough to take with her. With that taken care of, Silvie closes her eyes and concentrates, focused on making herself just the right size for ferret riding.

Alexis was getting bored. She shouldn't be... whoever had thrown that rock might still be around but... maybe it'd just been a bug or something? They certainly SEEMED to be alone, and with everyone out of the open except Max... man, she didn't much feel like being out here again.

So after giving another, final look around, she headed off towards where Kid, Sam, Enzo and the others had gone, kicking the odd piece of broken-off asphalt or cobblestone.

Emily makes a left, and not 10 feet away, she sees...A door. No, wait. A bulkhead. It looks heavy, but she could probably open it.

---

Kid looks back at the hole for a second, and backs away. "Y-yeah...Um, should we be worried about this?"

---

With a little effort, Silvie shrinks herself down to proper ferret riding size.

Sam looks confused, stepping up to take a closer look at the hole. "Worried about what? That was cool! What, is there something inside it or something?" Leaning over, he takes a peek in the divot, not expecting to really see anything, but not getting what it is that's got Kid concerned.

Max holds his little rubble sphere in his hands, appraising it like a fine jewel. He's quite pleased with himself.

"Well, that wasn't too hard at all!"

Briefly, he considers his next move, and then remembers that he's still on a mission. He looks up at the rubble, and sees no sign of his team. He can't see Alexis from here, either. What was she up to? Wasn't she going to try to make her way over here from the rooftops somehow?

Hey, alpha team, what's the hold up? You guys makin' progress, or what?

While waiting for a response, Max decides to shift gears with his little matter-reformation project. Since manipulating the shape of the rock was so easy, he decides to find out how hard changing the actual material makeup of it is. He's thinking simple carbon steel; no fancy alloys. A standard material for making bike chains.

Emily frowned. Large, heavy bulkheads, in her admittedly limited experience, were designed to keep stuff on the other side of them. Rather than try to open this one, she queried the system, hoping there might be some information on what lay behind it.

Alexis walks up the street, headed for the northern complex.

Suddenly, her sensors pick something up...Just for a quarter of a second. It's brief, but it's there.

-----

Max finds this one is a bit tougher. Quite a bit, in fact. It's going to take him a bit of time.

-----

Emmy's query gives her that this is where the bulk of the information is stored; the bulkhead representing a password that she can easily get through.

Alexis flinched, looking around herself, suddenly paying more attention to her sensors... how could she had lost her focus like that? Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the surrounding area, wondering whether she'd actually seen something...

I... might have seen something... I'll make another report in thirty seconds...

"Easy, Darren," Emily said, "No need to blast anything." If the bulk of the information was stored here, it certainly couldn't hurt to take a look. She set about cracking the password, making sure she'd be able to seal the bulkhead again when she was done. No reason to do any more damage after what had happened outside.

Alexis looked long and hard around her... the blip had been... roughly from that direction... a part of her told her to ignore it, but... she hadn't been trained this long to listen to what that voice said. Carefully, very carefully, she moved up to the wall, keeping a low, indiscernible profile, hoping the color of her uniform would help her blend in. Whatever it had been, it was probably standing still at the moment... if she could just... surprise it...

Without thinking about it, a finger on her right-hand had reshaped itself into a sharp-looking blade, and silent as death she circled around a piece of rubble to try to get a spot on whatever it was that had moved.

Emmy cracks the password in less than ten seconds, and the bulkhead slides open allowing destruction free access to the room.

----

The noble ferret steed and her miniature passengers dart through the rubble, taking a twisting, turning, dark path. Although it's a little bumpy, it's still a pretty quick, comfortable way for the pair to travel. Finally, they reach the light of the other side.

Max sees the ferret, along with his miniaturized sisters, pop out of a small hole nearby, before Leafshade comes to a stop at his feet. Now, there's nothing in the way to the entrance to that secondary building.

----

Alexis sits quietly for a minute, before that blip appears again, this time to her north-west. Again, it's only there for a second before it disappears.

Alexis darts in the direction of the blip, closing in quickly. She sneaks around a rock, and notices...

Two small children. Smaller than any Wunderkind she's seen, but Wunderkind none the less. No older than five, the two of them huddle together, terrified. There seems to be one boy, and one girl, and they have yet to notice her.

Both children look up, and then return to huddling. ...They seem to be afraid of her.

As Alexis looks, she gets...An internal email. One dated for this time, at this day, sent from...Thirteen.

These are Juniorkind. Thirteen's email begins. They are like us; evolved into their new form. The difference is that they're younger, and not ready to take on a role as we are. Their data is very simple and easy to compress, so locating and collecting them would be for the best, so they can be returned to Project Bluesky, and cultivated into true Wunderkind with time and training.

The first thing Silvie did was hop off of Leafshade and grow to full size. She was about to smile and wave at Max, but before she could continue her cheerful greeting, she caught the last message from Alexis.

This whole digital matter reformation thing is fascinating! Although reshaping his rock into a sphere was easy, trying to change its material composition was much more difficult. Yet, as difficult as it is, both conceptually and in action, Max gets the feeling that it's definitely not beyond his reach. It's just going to take time, practice, and patience.

Max notices his tiny sisters and their "noble" steed pop out of the rubble, and tosses his little rubble sphere over his shoulder. He prepares a greeting, but is interrupted by Alexis's message.

"Well... that's odd. I was gonna say we should go on ahead while Alexis did her surveillance, but we may have to put that on hold. At the very least, those kids might need an evac."

Alexis, you need any help up there?

"H-hey... there's n-no need to be afraid..." She tried to look friendly, but it wasn't something she'd tried to do before... she'd never had to! So she tried to smile as much as she could as she took a few steps towards the... Juniorkind? The e-mail made her stop in her tracks, quickly skimming through it and blinking.

These were other to-be wunderkind? Wow... she wondered what would've happened if they'd miss them... but then again, she didn't really want to think about that. So, with a more sincere smile on her face, she stepped up to the two, and squatted down next to them.

"Hey... don't be s-scared, I'm Alexis and I'm here to help you g-guys get home." she reached out her hands to the children, taking theirs. "What're your names?"

I think... I've got it under control. They're... Juniorkind, wunderkind too young and untrained to do field-work... Thirteen had an e-mail prepared for me, I think? I'll try to get them back to the bus...
