Kid will be fine. And we cannot track them, they're behind at least fourteen proxys. This isn't a normal hacker; whoever is doing this knows exactly who they're dealing with. They just don't know that we're here.

Do you know why they're doing it? I mean, people don't usually hack into stuff for no reason, right? Well, maybe they did, but not for targets like this, surely. They had to be looking for some kind of information.

...Oh! If they're not hacking us 'cause they don't know about us, then they're hacking D52's computers and stuff, right? So they're probably looking for stuff from D52 I bet! Someone that doesn't like them or something!

They're not sure what they're looking for. At least, as far as I can tell.

Just as abruptly as it begins, the quaking and splintering of trees ends. The woods clearing is a mess, as is the path that Lauren is on. Tree branches are everywhere, and an angry sky continues to pour rain as lightning streaks across the sky. But, it seems to be over.

Likewise, both Enzo and Kid come off their patches, Kid falling to her knees, gasping for breath. She looks at the others around her, one at a time, before slowly starting to sob, burying her face in her hands.

----

On the forest path, Thirteen stands, and helps Lauren to her feet. "Are you hurt?"

Watching Kid collapse to the ground, Sam heads over, sitting down next to her. He speaks up quietly, looking at her worriedly. "Are you okay? I'm sorry we all had to be so mean, but we didn't mean it, I promise. It's okay now, we're not gonna be mean anymore."

Alexis is momentarily stunned. The rain, and thunder, has her shivering. She'd completely forgotten about it as things got on, but she really, really hated thunder. Then, she realized Kid's patching was done and she choked on a half-formed word, hurrying over next to Sam. She fretted for a little while, not sure what to do, but Sam's words just... well, she realized she had to cowboy up, so she sat down next to Kid and hugged her weakly, trying to hold back her own tears, mentally willing herself not to break the hug, shivers running up her back and down her arms as she struggled to keep the hug.

Darren hung back a little, not being at all proficient at making someone feel better. "We gotta find somewhere to get her out of the rain. Back to the tents?"

The rain is largely irrelevant. No risk of viral infection or hypothermia or anything like that. Max is much more concerned about Kid's mental state. He squats in front of her, folding his arms across his knees.

"You're gonna be alright now." Probably, Max thinks to himself. "How are you feeling? Well, I mean, other than the obvious. I mean... are you feeling more like yourself now?"

Kid needs a minute to calm herself down to respond at all. Eventually, between sobs, she replies, "Y...Yes. I think so. I'm s-sorry, I don't know...What any of that was."

"It's..."

Silvie trailed off, unsure of what to say. "...it's just what we are. I-er, I'm sorry you got shoved through all of this. But it gets easier! Really!"

Enzo walked over, back in his normal shape now. Now that he was more or less back to normal, this place felt creepy and wrong again. He wanted to leave, very much.

"Anyway, it... There's no reason to think that that will ever happen again. You're ok now. Do you think you can stand? I... I want get us all back to camp. I need to tell you guys about somethings I learned, and I can get everyone else's patches started then too."

Alexis let go of Kid slowly and stood up, looking a little worse for wear, but she nodded to the others and tried to look as strong as she could.

"I...It wasn't your f-fault, Kidritta. T-thirteen said it could have been the p-poison of the shark th...that did this to you."

Sam holds his hand out to Kid, smiling, doing his best to look supportive. As bad as he might feel for how much of a jerk they all had to be, it's over and done with, and they don't have any reason to look back. "D'you want help up? You'll feel better when we get back to camp, I bet. Everything'll be okay."

Emily decided not to crowd Kid for the moment. She had enough people trying to reassure her at the moment. Any more would just get in the way. For now, she just stood around looking out into the woods. With the hacking over and Kid better, there shouldn't be anything dangerous out there. She could only assume the hacking attempt was what Thirteen had been talking about when she said something was happening that they couldn't interfere with. But had it really been the big deal Thirteen had made it out to be? It all depended on what the hackers had gotten out of it. If, for instance, they'd gotten access to the Blue Horizons files... Well, that could be bad.

Kid took Sam's hand, and allowed herself to be helped up. "I...Get it now. I can see, and it makes sense. We are...Special. We're something new...This is...Weird. Incredible, but weird."

One of Thirteen's vortexes appeared, Lauren and Thirteen herself stepping through. Now, the entire group is at the remains of the church. "It would be best to rest for the moment." Thirteen says. "There is much to talk about as Kid becomes accustomed to her new form."

(The entire group is reunited at the church ruins in the clearing again. Sorry to broom it a bit, but opening it up to CI Before the mission ends AND YOUR FIRST REAL MISSION BEGINS. People are free to chat amongst themselves or talk to Kid or Thirteen.)

Sam nods, smiling to Kid, happy to see that she's already feeling better. Moving a bit off so other people get the chance to come in and see her, he stops by Alexis, handing Percival back over to her. "You did really good, I thought. And you didn't look scared or anything too."

Silvie was quiet for a moment before she nodded.

"Yeah, we are," she said, with a wide smile on her face. "I mean, we're normal kids, sorta - we play games and go camping and all that stuff, even if we're training in a computer. But we can also do a lot of stuff, a lot of really cool stuff."

She paused and looked up at the sky, before her voice quieted. "And we'll be helping people," she said softly. "We'll be doing things normal people can't. We'll be like... like heroes."

Sam grins to Alexis. "Well, it was really good. You didn't even get hit even, it was really neat." His eyes widen a bit, as something just comes to his mind. "Oh, I almost forgot! Thirteen, we were gonna ask if you wanted to camp with us while we were here. We're gonna be here all night, so if you wanna camp too, that'd be okay. It'll be fun!"

Emily grinned, "It'll be a chance to unwind a bit, and I think we could all use it." Between Kid's infection and the hackers, it had certainly been a tense time. She wasn't sure just what they were going to do about the hackers; Having them periodically messing with their world was just not on.

"Camping ain't got no video games," Darren reminded the assembled as he sat down on the ground. "So I don't see the point. D'you think someone out there knew what was gonna happen, so they sent us here? Sometimes I feel like the grownups do know more than they let on."

Alexis kept smiling, looking a little off as she didn't really know what to say to Sam's praise, instead just glancing at her feet, Percival, the others and Sam too and fro, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Alexis smile brightened as she looked at Thirteen, hearing her acceptance to camp with them.

"Y-You've camped before? As a wund..." she kind of trailed off, remembering that Thirteen was from the future... except not really, but kinda. So she thought for a little before adding, "W-we're going to eat s'mores... I've never had any, so I don't know if it'll be good or not..."

When Lauren had returned the clearing, the ferret had immediately run to her and hoped up on her shoulder, where it sat peering about with interest. Lauren herself paced around the outline of the fallen church. "I wonder what this place was...and what it means that it's gone now." She sighed, and the ferret shared her downcast expression. "I never even got to smash through the window. That would've been so cool!"

Well, whatever. They were all gathered together now, so it was as good a time as any to tell the others.

"Actually, I know what that Church was. I was going to wait til we got back to camp to say, but since we're all here and hanging out for now anyway...

"It's a file, which is why it looks like a building. It's ruined because they tried to delete it, and it didn't finish completely... that happens a lot, it seems like. Anyway, I was able to read what's left of it. The file concerns a project called 'Winterstorm'. It doesn't say who the project belonged to, and now that I've had some time to think I can guess at a few different reasons why D-52 would have a file about it, whether or not they were the ones who did it.

"Winterstorm was an attempt to crate a zombie that had ice powers. I guess they succeeded... Her name is Lindsay BAiley, and she has some kind of call sign or room asignment or... something. She's designated as "Cell letter 'T'". She was creature in early February of this year, and became powerful enough to escape her makers. Anyway, there's... I don't know right now if that was a video file or what, but I saw her. And I have this terrible feeling that she saw me, too... And I'm pretty sure she wants to hurt us. I'd think she was a lost fragment of an RPG data file reading about her, but..."

He shook his head, as he thought about what he'd seen again.

"I know she's real."

Silvie quickly became distracted from her conversation with Kid thanks to an overheard snippet from Enzo's explanation. Did he just say something about ice zombies?! Sure, it wasn't any crazier than kids in a computer, but still...zombies! With ice!

"You...you know about that?" she asked, gaping at Enzo and Thirteen.

"Wait, what?" Emily asked, having had much the same reaction as Silvie. Zombies? Okay, she could deal with virtual realities and robot bodies, but zombies went seriously over the line of what was scientifically plausible. Perhaps more worrying, D-52 had created this zombie. Yet more worrying, random hackers might have gotten hold of the remains of the project files. Given that was where the vortex had manifested, it seemed a reasonable chance. She also had to wonder how many other impossile projects D-52 had had going. All in all, there were suddenly a lot of things to worry about. Emily wasn't sure she could unwind now.

"D-52 was not part of this project." Thirteen says, almost as if reading the other children's thoughts. "They attempted to stop it when it began. It was an Imperial project that was founded in a secret laboratory. You'll learn about it in time. For now...Please, try to relax. Getting yourselves stressed now won't help anything."
