Enzo hung back with Janet, so he could hide himself and put his full attention into monitoring his brothers and sisters, and any data that was sent his way. If Kid hit him and he were disabled, it would be bad for the whole unit. ... Plus he didn't want to get punched or kicked by Kid.

He relayed to the others, continuing to exclude Kid from the broadcast:

I'll be hanging back here, coordinating.

Alexis frowned slightly as the others got into hiding, making far too much noise for her own taste. Then they all started whispering, and her brow furrowed even more as she tried to resist the urge to call for silence over the shared radio-network. If Kid noticed them before everything was set in motion, and all exits were guarded...

Is everyone in position? she sent out over the com, unable to contain her frustration. She wasn't used to feeling like this, but this was a mission, and they needed to get Kid to understand who she was and who they were...

Enzo didn't respond right away. He'd been tumbling what little he knew about the Database from his time there over and over in his head. He had a thought, but he wasn't entirely convinced by it. For one thing, it was anticlimactic. However, it fit the data he had right at this moment.

He whispered back to Janet:

"I think... I think that the unformatted section might have been formatted once, in the past. Or maybe a very small part of it. Maybe the adults were originally using it as a testing area for something, and this is what's left after they deleted the data; Most deletes don't actually remove anything, they just take off the file start and end markers. Whatever they did could still be there... just ripped up and falling apart."

It would explain why they never bothered to mention it, but it really wouldn't explain why looking at it made him feel weird. It still seemed wrong.

Enzo thought about the church some more, and came to a conclusion. It was taking a risk, but what they learned from it could be valuable.

When you guys get into position and start moving, I would appreciate it if someone could work into their act throwing one of the pieces of the old church in my direction. I'm going to interface and analyze the code. It shouldn't keep me from monitoring you guys and doing my job as normal.

Deciding that everyone was more or less in place, Emily hopped up onto the top of the rocks and began her spiel, doing her best impression of a haughty elven queen, "So, mortal, once more your kind profane the woods of the Firstborn. Have you anything to say before we pass judgement? Choose your words well, for few violate the compact and leave."

She was definitely having fun with this, but it wouldn't do to go on for too long; the idea was to keep Kid's attention divided after all, and the others deserved their turns.

Sam looks quickly at Darren, before turning back to the church. Keeping his voice at a low whisper, he holds Alexis's Percival protectively close under him. "...Yeah, okay." It weirds him out a little how friendly Darren's been today, but it's not something he'll complain about.

As Emily hops up and begins her speech, Sam grins. "I think she's having fun. D'you know anything about elves an' stuff? I don't really know what kinda stuff to say, but it sounds like they talk really fancy."

Oh man. Max can't resist riffing off of that setup. He performs a quick, controlled burst of his boosters, just enough for him to alight on top of a piece of church wall, making sure to find a spot that seems less likely to crumble beneath him. Hopefully the higher vantage point would earn him some contentious, haughty bastard points.

Max addresses Kid with his best effort at self-important aristocratic douchiness. "Oh dear. It would appear the poor mongrel has no idea how numbers work. It's almost pitiable."

From this vantage point, Max can see the inside of the building, the ceiling collapsed some time ago and all that's left is rubble scattered among pews. There are many stained glass windows, as well- Perfect for someone else to jump through dramatically! And Kid is standing near the altar, and looking...Fairly calm, really. She grabs a stone, lobbing it at Max, but missing horribly- It seems for her strength in martial arts, she never learned to actually throw anything.

"I'm not a mongrel!"

Alexis remained completely motionless in the tree, observing everything that was going on, unsure about what she should do. Emily and Max seemed to have gotten the whole thing off the bat, and Kid certainly seemed to react in there. She drew a hand through her ha... no, wait, it was tied up, so she merely traced her fingers along it, twisting the end slightly between her fingers as she watched. Maybe she'd be the quiet, deadly kind... Yeah, that seemed like something she could pretend to be... well, deadly would be difficult, but if she just tried to look serious, and kept quiet, maybe Kid would believe it.

Though this sort of acting isn't something Sam's ever been especially good at, and though he doesn't know much about what he's supposed to be pretending to be, the silence that seems to be stretching just a little too long spurs him into action. He quickly thinks over what the Database tells him about elves before he stands from his hiding place, doing his best to mimic Emily's and Max's tones. "You haven't defended yourself yet! This place is for real elves, so why'd you come here?"

Max chuckles derisively as the rock sails past him, although honestly he's glad it was a whiff. One less thing to worry about. Seems like this was a good location for a second reason, as well! He continues the charade, while running through an online thesaurus in his head.

"Not a mongrel? How amusing. I suppose I could call you a mutt, a half-breed, a misbegotten cur, and you'd deny them all, wouldn't you? So I suppose you don't understand words, then, either."

Max is getting into it. He's a little surprised at how much fun this is. A mischievous smile creeps across his face.

"Yes, why don't you tell us why you've come here? Clearly it was not to show off your intellect, or your aim."

"Yes!" Silvie declared as she (finally) stepped forward. She crossed her arms and sniffed her nose at her, and said, "Tell us why you're here, you...you fool. Or else you'll PAY!"

She pointed her finger at Kid after she said that, just for extra emphasis. It just seemed right.

Kid, bombarded with the verbal assaults, whips around frantically, trying to get a look at all her attackers. Finally, managing to miss them all, she falls into a martial arts pose. "Come then, and face me! I'll show you the power of a true heir of the forest!"

Following Darren's suggestion (though he's not entirely sure why), Sam calls out again to Kid, feeling more confident about his role. "You're not a true heir yet! You needa...prove yourself! Yeah, you needa prove you're worthy!"

Lauren sent out a message to the others: Guys, um...I don't think I'll be any good at this acting stuff. So, uh, say you've mystically enslaved someone to fight her or something?

Lauren was anxious to get involved and anxious to get this over with, but more than anything, she was really looking forward to dramatically crashing through that window.

Alexis had gotten an idea, and like all stupid ideas, it seemed to make absolute, perfect sense to her. While the others had been talking, she had slowly removed the many ribbons from her hair, finally just tying it up at the end like she usually did. She took a few seconds to stretch out her hair, looked at the others and then gave a little nod, as if to herself.

I'm going to try something she sent out to the others, before gracefully leaping from the tree, landing with barely a tap a short distance in front of the church, and in front of Kid. She had her arms folded, and looked at the 'elf' with her usual stary, blood-red eyes, remaining quiet.

She was swift enough to... well, maybe dodge Kid's attacks. She wouldn't fight the girl, but hopefully rile her up enough that she'd try to attack without any plans. She was well aware that this might just result in her getting beat up... she didn't want that to happen, but she'd seen what Kid had done to Sam. But she couldn't stun what she couldn't catch.

She gave an almost imperceptible nod to Kid, arms still folded, but quite ready to jump out of the way if Kid lounged at her.

Lauren, if she goes at me use that to jump through the window and surprise her. I'm no match in a fight, but I think I can get out of the way.

Enzo was quick and too the point: He needed to be, considering what he was seeing.

Guys, Kid just activated her XLR8 system and has combat locks on 32 targets. Repeat Three Two individual target locks XLR8 is hot.

Things weren't going the way he'd like them to. This had been the plan, though. All he could do was watch and give advice.

Well, that hadn't been part of the plan. Emily had hoped that Thirteen might at least have disabled Kid's XLR8 system, but it seemed that was too much to hope for. And, although she was certainly agitated, she showed no signs of patching. Clearly, further provocation was called for.

Accordincly, she burst into cruel, mocking laughter. "So, you wish for trial by combat? So be it. It has been a long time since we have seen such sport."

Thirty two? Alexis bit her lip as Enzo revealed this bit of information... XLR8 huh... Well...

She gave a slight smile to kid and then leapt backwards, pushing off from the ground to jump at least six feet along it before landing, hunching up and then backflipping up into one of the trees, eyes still locked on kid.

"Come on, then." she said to the girl, speaking for the first time. "Or a-are you going to keep hiding in that building?"

Alexis jumps out of the way, and time itself seems to slow for all of the children, as they observe something that's either borderline silly, or completely awesome.

Kid speeds out of the church again, directly forward, past the hiding children, and rears her fist back. In slow motion, her palm shoots forward again, striking the first tree she finds square and solid. There's hardly a sound, although a moment later they can all hear a low, moaning crack from the tree. Leaves, suddenly deadened, begin to fall from it's bows, and suddenly...It shatters to pieces, leaving a messy, jagged stump behind. Kid slowly looks up from her follow through, before hopping a very slight bit in the air...And disappearing, reappearing in her starting position.

"You're clearly outmatched." Kid says. "But I accept! Give me what you've got!"

Enzo:
Spoiler:
Thirty-Second strike: Lotus palm completed. Returning to normal combat subroutines.

So we're pretty screwed, 'cuz I ain't seen any of you guys do that, Darren sent. Know what would have worked really well? If that stupid room had let me have a gun. "Your trial is to let the black kid keep hitting you with his 12-gauge until your ass patches." Freaky psycho chick part over, back to the part with the marshmallows.

Darren looked around where he was to see if he was near anything that could be picked up and thrown or used as a blunt instrument - at the very least he could find a club he could toss to one of the desk-lifters to even what was looking to him like a completely hopeless fight.

Wow. That was... actually pretty badass. But what was that business with 32 targets? She only hit one thing. But damn, did she ever hit it. They were going to have to play this carefully if they wanted to remain in whole pieces.

Hey, Thirteen, I don't know if you're keeping tabs on everything that's going down over here, but things are heating up. If you were planning to hit Kid with some kind of limiting effect like you used on us when we first got out here, now would be a pretty good time.

Max isn't sure exactly how to respond to this situation in-character. So, he decides to go with the option that's the most fun: he starts laughing. It starts out a little forced, but as the absurdity and the gravity of the current situation mix together in his mind, it becomes more natural, and a little unsettling. Max almost loses his balance, and at that point he decides it might be a good idea to stop the laughter. He wipes a tear from his eye.

"Oh... oh, I'm sorry, it's just... I thought you were going to try to prove to us how much of an Elf you are. That was very impressive, but I'm afraid it doesn't do much for your argument. You've done a wonderful job of proving how much like an Orc you are, but an Elf? What kind of Elf proves their worth with a display of brute force, against a tree of all things? A tree! Are you serious?"

At this point, Max changes his expression from amused and aloof to angry, and serious, glaring directly at Kid. "How very human of you." Max thrusts the word at her like a dagger, pronouncing it with the kind of hate one would reserve for someone truly despicable, like a bully or a puppy kicker or something.

Again, time seems to slow, and the forest goes silent, other than a loud thud, as Kid falls to her knees.

"It's..It's not my fault..! I can't help the way I was born. It's just..The way I am..."

..For the moment, she seems..Subdued.

What are you all waiting for? she jumped down again, heading over towards the church rather hastily, If we can restrain her while she's like this, we might be able to force her to patch!

Alexis was surprised herself at the tone of her message, but they needed to help Kid, and this was the best opportunity they could've hoped for. They didn't have to fight or hurt her, just restrict her. Insulting her was kind of... she didn't like doing that, and Kid was really hurt by it. She didn't want to say this to the others though, but she was going to try to speak with the others about it later.

"I-Impressive, but this is going to end n-now!"

Well, that... wasn't quite what they wanted, but it's a step in the right direction. Probably. But what now?

Hey, guys, we've got a small window of opportunity here. Do we want to bring her back to Thirteen, or do we want to try to restrain her here and push her a little more? Honestly, if we could do it, I think I'd rather take her back with us. Thirteen did say that if we didn't get Kid to patch on our own, she'd have something if we brought Kid back to her.

Well, with that question posted, it was time to perpetuate the charade a little more. Max puts on a face of feigned concern.

"Oh dear. Lost the will to fight already?"

...Maybe she is patching? Rebooting's what normal computers do when they get a patch, right? I mean, she doesn't look like she's patching, but that'd make sense, right? But if she's not, I think we should bring her back too.

Staring from behind the bush, Sam puts on his best glare towards Kid. Since hes pretty sure he's wrong (since she didn't turn into a cloud or anything), he quickly figures out what he can do to keep the performance going. "...It looks like she's got the...um...the stamina of a human too! Tired after one attack!"

Max lights up a little. Hey, I did actually think to bring some rope! And then he frowns a little. Aw, crap, I left all my stuff down at the lake. I think we all did. Hey, if anyone has any rope or rope-like stuff, speak up now, otherwise we'll have to have Lauren run back to the lake and fetch mine. Whaddaya say, Lauren? How long do you think it would take you?

Max tilts his head just a little. You know, I'm not actually sure we'll need it, though. While you're doing that, let's see what else we can do here.

Stepping off the ruined wall into thin air, Max puts his boosters on a low burn, just enough to float down to the ground slowly, and hopefully with some degree of magesty. He shakes his head, and lets out a heavy sigh.

"You poor, misguided child. You really have been living among the humans for far too long." Max extends a hand to Kid while landing about five feet in front of her. "Come; let us show you what you've been missing."

Alexis stopped outside the church, hearing the other transmissions. With a nod she darted up to the wall and began looking for holds to climb on. Unlike Max, she didn't have any boosters to rely on, so climbing the wall took a while, especially since she was looking for loose bricks as she climbed.

I'll try to find a piece of the building that's loose. I don't think there's much I can do to help keep Kid restricted.

It takes Alexis a few minutes, but eventually, she finds a brick that's lose and light enough to be taken away without too much effort. Suddenly, she has the feeling that Enzo and Janet need to see it ASAP.
