Lauren frowned when she noticed that the door had disappeared. It wasn't that she was worried really, it was just nice to know that there was a way back if they needed one. Come to think of it, what did that door even mean? Did someone delete a shortcut? How could they separate them from the file system? Lauren shook her head and walked over to where the door used to be to see if she could feel anything, just to be sure.

"Well, since the door's gone I guess we can camp anywhere we want. I wonder if day and night are the same length here as they are outside?"

"I'm not sure." Janet says, thoughtfully. "Has anyone spent enough time here in the last few days to notice? Our internal clocks should be good enough to measure if it's the same."

"Not really," she said. "I mean, we only came in here to get Rob, right? And that didn't take too long."

Silvie was about to go on, until she remembered that Kid wasn't there for that mission. She looked at her, and said, "We had to find a cat here for one of our training things earlier - long story. Anyways, should we all measure this stuff? You know, like if one our our clocks is wonky or something."

(Gah, forum ate my post...)

Alexis sniggered a little at Janet's remark, after all, her clock had gone bonkers after the last mission here... but then again, maybe that'd been an effect of meeting Thirteen? "Y-yeah, that's when we met thirteen squirrels!" she exclaimed with a grin to Kid, showing off her dimple.

Then she unslung her backpack and dug out something she'd apparantly ordered from her room and a thing some of the other kids may or may not have seen since their adventures in the wilderness. A teddy bear. Dressed in the same kind of uniform as Alexis herself, with the sun reflecting in its beady little eyes and an expression that truly radiated a forlorn and thoughtful mood. Why, this teddy was no ordinary stuffed animal, and one instantly got the feel that if he'd have the ability to talk, his opinions would most likely carry great weight in all matters, for he seemed like the kind of teddy who always thought before he spoke, and remained calm in even the most dire straits.

As it were, he couldn't talk, so mostly what he was good for was snuggling. But you'd believe he was damn snuggable in the most respectable way possible!

Alexis held the bear up, inspecting him for damage, before sneaking him a little hug, just barely noticeable, before holding him to her side and looking at the others, a very faint blush creeping up on her face. "M-maybe we could camp just outside the forest? I-if T... if the squirrels want to join us, I thought..."

Kid looks around, squinting. "..I don't see any squirrels at all."

((OOC: Freaking Wright State computers, eating my edit))

"Are we really being monitored out here? Isn't this where 'the squirrels' showed up and... I don't know, dropped acorns of knowledge on us or something? Isn't this 'our world?' If there's anywhere it's safe to drop the bullsh... charade, it's out here. Right?" Max looks around at the group, gets unconvinced looks, and decides to strengthen his argument.

"Look, they couldn't find Bob out here. They had us go get him. They haven't tried to communicate with us at all out here, and it sounded like they aren't going to this mission, either. When the last mission was over, bossman asked us to go back inside to submit our mission reports. Right now, they're having us check the place out because they have no idea what's going on out here. Heck, the only thing we've seen them actually affect out here is the door, and that's probably only because it's attached to the... indoors. We're trying to name this place, but it's still basically just unformatted hard disk space. I don't think... I don't think they have the... files, or programs, or whatever, to really do much of anything out here."

Max ponders for a moment, and seems more or less satisfied with his explanation.

"... That's the theory, anyway."

Enzo nodded to Max.

"Rivendare specifically said they couldn't see anything that went on in here. At the time there wasn't really any good reason to lie about it, so I think it's safe to talk about Thirteen. Beside that, there's the fact that if they could see in here and had been watching us, they would have seen us with Thirteen before anyway. So unless Thirteen is some kind of really elaborate and hard to understand test, I think we're good."

As he thought about it, Enzo realized that this was not the first time that "is Rivendare lying?" had come up. They weren't a very trusting bunch, were they? Not much to do about it, though. They had been completely at D-52's mercy for months, and they didn't seem to have taken advantage of Enzo and his new friends so far. Was there really a reason to suspect that they would do so now? Not particularly, he decided, and turned to look at the lake.

"So, here's an important question... Who knows how to swim? Cuz I don't."

Alexis glanced at Max and Enzo, unsure whether she ought to add her own thoughts on the matter. Kid was one of the wunderkind as well... but... "...maybe Thirteen'll... get in touch with us... with..." she cast the new kid another worried look. It wasn't as if she was afraid to reveal the mysterious girl's existance to their latest addition to the bunch, it was just that... well... she didn't want to bungle it up. Then again, Max and Enzo seemed to have their ways with words, so if anyone could describe why there would be a wunderkind-but-not-yet-wunderkind-spirit-girl in the forest, it was one of them.

The other question, though, made her perk up a bit. "I-I know... a bit..." she answered Enzo, and took a step towards the lake, before stopping, looking somewhat nervously around. "I... used to, anyway..."

"She might show up later, I guess. Maybe 'cause she'd need to meet Kid or something" Sam turns to Kid, grinning. "She's this other Wunderkind that's in here, but no one knows anyone about her and she talks all mysterious and stuff. And we aren't supposed to tell Mr. Rivendare or anyone about her, so you gotta not talk about her when you're not in this place so they don't find out."

When Alexis mentions knowing how to swim, Sam looks over to her, excitement brewing. "Really? Neat! Can you teach me too? I mean, if you wanna."

Alexis nodded shyly to Sam, a slight blush creeping up on her face and she shifted a little, "O-okay... but I don't-don't know if I'm good enough to show you... I mean..." she traced off, squeezing the arm of the teddy she was carrying.

Emily simply nodded, happy to let Alexis take the lead with the swimming. She seemed pretty withdrawn really, and it was good to see her speaking up. She wasn't too bothered about the absense of the door. No doubt it would pop up again when they needed it. For now, she started heading for the lake. Best to get themselves set up before they started with the exploring.

She gave the teddy another quick squeeze before she gathered up her courage, seeing that no one else seemed to want to try dipping in the water. She looked to Max and Enzo and a worried look slowly unfolded as she asked, shifting a bit uneasily: "W...what happens if I start to sink?"

It seemed like a pretty relevant question really. Did she need to breathe? Sure, this was inside a computer, but she still felt somewhat uncomfortable with the idea of drowning. After all, if everything else tasted, felt and looked real, why wouldn't water?

"C-can anyone help me with me hair?" she glanced at the other girls, still looking nervous, growing even more so as the possible accident that could unfold seemed to dawn on her entirely.

Besides, anyone with any common sense knew that swimming around with hair reaching down to your waist was a horrible chore all around.

Alexis shifted a little, looking a bit embarrassed. "Well... y-yeah, I guess a pony-tail's good... thank you." She smiled, not wanting to admit that her mom had used to tie it up in a braid when she was smaller... besides, why would Janet do that anyway? No, it'd be easier with just a pont-tail.

She gave Darren a pretty worried look. He'd been half-quiet, chiming up mostly to complain... "Y-yes, it's.. it's kind of like that, yeah." she nodded, hoping he'd be happy someone agreed with him.

Janet shoulders her pack, and pulls out a number of ties. A moment later, she begins tying off more and more of Alexis's hair. "I don't know how you deal with all of this." she says. "I've never had my hair past my shoulders."

"Me neither."

By now, Max was carrying his box across his shoulders, and heading towards the lake after Emily. He turns around to face Alexis, walking backwards.

"Seriously though, if you run into any trouble in the water, just let us know, and we'll come in after you. We won't let anything bad happen."

Sam waves to Max and Emily as they head off, waiting by Janet and Alexis. He watches as she puts up her hair, bouncing a little in place. "It's pretty neat how long it is I think. Have you never cut it?"

Alexis blushes a bit more, hand idly going up to her hair as she shook her head a little, careful not to bother Janet in her tying while squeezing the teddy in her arm, "N-no... mom used to cut it a bit, but only to k-keep it even..." she trailed off and mumbled an embarrassed thank you at Janet and Sam, trying to think of what to say.

"I-it kind of... gets in the way sometimes, but I'm used to it... do you think I should cut it?"

She gave another short nod to Max and tried a smile. It looked kind of weak. "A-alright, I'll try to... well, do that mind thing..." she closed her eyes tightly, obviously concentrating as she tried to send out the same kind of message Enzo had gotten away before. Can you hear me?

Enzo didn't get in on the conversation about Alexis' hair. It wasn't that he found it uninteresting or uncomfortable, he simply didn't think about people's hair much. Her hair was long. Ok then. He was hoping one of them would teach him to swim. Darren was, of course, calling him an idiot for not knowing how. That was sure helpful. He didn't say anything about it, though. He wasn't sure he could make himself do so if he wanted to.

And then there was Alexis' voice in his head. Enzo blinked and looked at her. Well, it was nice to know that it worked both ways. He sent a reply to her privately:

I can hear you just fine. :D

... Wait, did he just think a smiley emoticon at her? He had. Well, that was surprising.

As the twins head down to the lake, both are fairly sure they feel the tingly feeling of their digital beings increasing exponentially. A cool wind blows off of the lake, and both have the feeling that they're being observed.

Meanwhile, some distance away near another shore, Janet finishes tying off her 'sister's hair, and gives her a pat on the shoulder. "We're all set, I think. Just...Remember, we're data. You can sink, but you don't..really need to breathe. I don't think."

"Huh," Emily remarked, "I thought it was just supposed to be us here, but I feel like we're being watched." She swept her gaze around the landscape, trying to narrow down the sensation. Maybe it was somehow connected to the lake itself? It was a bit hard to concentrate what with those weird, still not entirely understood digital sensations though.

Alex beamed at Enzo and sent out another quick message before her 'sister' Janet patted her on the shoulder. A-awesome! It's working!

Turning around and nodding to Janet she smiled and balanced on the heels of her foot, smiling. "Okay, I'll keep it in mind. T-thanks for the help with my hair." her smile grew a bit and she handed Sam her teddy-bear carefully, "Can you watch him for me while I'm swimming?" she asked with a slight blush on her face... and then she was off towards the water, running towards it and then leaping into the water, heaven or hell.

Alexis takes a flying leap into the water, and finds herself weightless. The water is clean and cool, and even below the surface, crystal clear. She feels an odd tingling sensation for a moment, as her suit changes itself to become more like a wetsuit than tights; though it retains it's same design. It seems, for now, swimming is more than possible.

Meanwhile, the twins continue to feel as if they're being watched, and now Lauren, Darren, and Sylvie also begin to feel the increased tingle of digitization wash over them.

Twins, Lauren, Sylvie:
Spoiler:
You begin to feel even more tingly than normal, and you're completely positive you hear a feint, operatic singing nearby.

Alexis zooms past Max, and he smiles. He yells after her as she leaps into the lake. "Go, Alex!" It's good to see her loosen those inhibitions. He was about to ask her how the water was, but as the sound of her splash subsides, he swears he can hear singing in the distance.

"Hey, sounds like I called it."

Max sets down his soccer goal kit, closes his eyes and tries to listen in to locate the source of the singing.

Alexis felt thrilled as she plunged into the water, butterflies in her stomach dispersing as the cool water surrounded her. She'd closed her eyes and although she didn't need to breathe, she'd covered her nose... But to her surprise she remained underneath the surface, not feeling the usual pressure in her lungs as the process of breathing was interrupted. She opened her eyes and let go of her nose, and smiled. It didn't take long for her to surface, though, and she gave a laugh as she did. It wasn't very loud, but it was there.

She waved to the others, but realized something was weird. Had they seen something?

Enzo was happy to see Alexis relaxing some, and it was always nice to know that the communications worked both ways. He originally meant to sit on the shore and watch her swim until he figured it out, but something got his attention: There was an unidentified green signal on his sensors, and everyone was talking about Thirteen. Well, more so now that is. He had honestly been hoping that they'd get to spend some time just hanging out and having fun, but if everyone was going to get caught up in the moment, he wasn't sure he could stop them. Might as well try to put them on the right track. He started broadcasting to everyone again.

One moment. Transferring tactical overlay.

He attempted to send them the information he was seeing, Kid included. With some luck, his sensors would register her as a friendly during the process. And without it... Well, he was going to hope for 'luck' right now.

"Yeah, you called it alright," Emily said. The theme music was a dead giveaway, after all, "She probably wants to meet the newcomer." Enzo's transmission was confirmation of another sort, and helpfully provided a location for Thirteen.

Emily still wasn't entirely sure how she felt about the other girl. On the one hand, she was annoyingly cryptic. On the other, she probably hadn't asked for this any more than the rest of them had. Moreover, she realised with a slightly guilty feeling, what did she do when they weren't around? It must get awfully lonely in here.

This last thought decided her, and she sent out a transmission, Would you like to join us, Thirteen?

Enzo and the others are in luck; not only was Thirteen being labeled as a friendly target on the overlay, she was by default labeled as Wunderkind, and therefor family. Finally, those looking get a view of her, floating high over the lake, with the pulsing light dancing at her feet. She simply floats there, looking into the distance, her braid whipping as if caught in the wind.

Heading down after Alexis, Sam keeps a careful hold on Alexis's bear. He takes a seat on a flat rock near the shore, and when he hears the distant sounds of Thirteen's singing. He stares out towards the direction Enzo's guidance shows them, but can't manage to get a glimpse of her. Alexis distracts him for a moment as she pops back to the top of the water, and Sam grins at her, happy to see how happy she is herself. He points off towards Thirteen, somewhat unnecessarily. "Thirteen's here, she's over that way. Can you hear her too? It's pretty quiet, but I can kinda hear it."

Lauren slowly walked over to the shore as she stared at Thirteen in awe. "That is so. Cool." She raised her voice to reach as many of the others as she could without shouting. "Do you think we should swim out to her? Though it'll be hard to have a conversation with her flying like that..."

Enzo looked back to see how Kid was handling things, rather than racing over to meet Thirteen. The wunderkind girl native to this place was amazing and awesome and.... well, confusing. He couldn't help feeling that Kid might have some trouble accepting her where the rest of them didn't. In addition, he wanted to see if her status had changed or not.

Max stares at Thirteen, just floating there, being all mysterious and weird. It's neat and all, hovering on her strange light platform thing, but what the heck is she staring at? What's so fascinating that she didn't bother to respond to Emily? Max lowers his pack to the ground, deciding on a more direct approach. He fires his boosters and meets Thirteen over the lake, face to face, and gives her a friendly wave.

Thirteen blinks, turning to face Max, and floats backwards quickly, as if mildly startled. "Oh. Hello. I didn't see you there." She shakes her head, and grabs her braid a moment before it whips Max in the side. "What are you doing here? Are you here for..."

She seems to catch herself, and stops speaking.

Silvie, too, was called by that strange song Thirteen always played. She began to walk towards the source, guided by instinct, until she neared the lake. There she saw the mysterious girl, hovering over the lake above her friends. She said something, but Silvie wasn't quite close enough to hear it. Frustrated, she bit her lip and quickened her pace, now jogging towards the lake.

"Hey!" she shouted, "What's going on here?"

Alexis gave Sam a puzzled nod and looked around, spotting Thirteen some feet away from her, floating around. She flinched, surprised by how close she was, and then looked as Max flew over to meet the mysterious Wunderkind. She kicked water for a while, remaining afloat rather easily, listening in on the discussion. She finally floated over to Sam, giving him a happy smile.

"Do y-you think she's going to join us? I bet she can tell r-really scary stories! And maybe she hasn't eaten s-s'mores, either!" she glanced at the bear and then looked around. "Where's Kidritta?"

"Oh yeah, I bet she'd be really good at scary stories. We should ask her if she wants to camp too, I bet she doesn't have a lotta stuff to do here." At Alexis's question, Sam looks back towards the group. He's surprised to see Kid splitting off from the others, heading towards the forest alone. "...Weird. She's going off by herself. I wonder if she saw something or something like that? I'm gonna go ask her!" Hopping off the rock, he waits just long enough to see if Alexis is coming along too, before heading off towards Kid. He tries to see whatever it is that's got her attention, but waits until he gets near her before saying anything.
