Passing by, Rosalyn noticed a familiar winged person flagging her down. After a short moment's thought, she remembered that she had loaned that torch to the other group, and he had gone with them. Now was as good a time as any to get it back, so she strode over to him.

"Hey there," she greeted the guy as she drew near. "It's been a while since I saw you last."

Shawn bats the cat away again, though gently. "Um...I'm in the..tent...But don't come in! I'm sick!"

She coughs a couple of times for effect.
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

"I know, but don't worry, a cleric's on the way. You'll be fine soon, I'm sure." Under the blankets, the cat sniffs at Shawn, nudging her with her head and giving her a strange look while Florence continues to speak. "But if you're worried about me, I'll just stay over here, okay?" Leaning over, Florence enters the tent, taking a seat just inside the entrance. "How bad is it? Do you feel okay? I'm sorry I couldn't be here for you earlier; how long've you been sick?"

"Pft, don't worry about me. If I'm sick, I'm sick. I'm just here to worry about you." She laughs lightly, while Nora gives Shawn a deep stare. "Is there anything you need? Anything I can get you?"

As Florence continues to speak, Nora lays next to Shawn motionlessly. Suddenly, without warning and faster than Shawn can react, Nora smacks her across the face with her paw, hoping for a reaction that can enlighten her confusion.

As Nora bats her, Shawn shoots out of her sleeping back, whirling around and digging her claws into the floor of the tent. Her ears fold back, and her orange and black fur stands up, along with her tail, as she bears her sharp teeth and hisses at the intruder.

This lasts for an awkward moment before she turns her focus to Florence, flicking an ear, and a whisker, and smiles sheepishly. "...Glass of milk?"

Nora jumps back in surprise from the apparent threat, watching Shawn from a safe distance in the corner of her tent. Meanwhile, Florence stares in shocked silence, mouth moving but no words coming out. She blinks, trying to make sure what she sees isn't merely a trick of the light. "...Shawn? What...happened to you?!"

and at that very moment, Asp and Zant reach Shawn's tent themselves, just in time to see the fallout.

Seeing Florence's reaction to her current form, Shawn's shy smile melts into a frown, and she looks down, kneeding the floor with her hand..paw...claw...things. "I..I don't..I can't really..explain it, I guess..."

Lorraine smiled, perhaps just a bit too widely. There was definitely an intelligence guiding the construct, or else something clever enough to pass for it. The question, then, was only whether it was controlled by remote or if it operated autonomously. However, she didn't have the tools or the time to work that out on her own just now. So, instead, she replied:

"Great! When everything's ready to go, I'll talk to you again. It was good talking to you Magpie!"

She headed off right away, intent on doing precisely what she'd said: Getting a couple more people to come with them to Automata.

"Yes," Theller said, "Nice to see you. Thank you for lending us this torch; it proved invaluable, even if the mission itself was something of a disaster. These things do happen, though, I suppose." He handed the torch back to Rosalyn. "I'll have to buy one of my own at some point."
"Tell you what, Leto, I won't fight with you. Zeus' wives are pretty tough customers. You have my permission to boast openly that you have beaten the daylights out of me."

Magpie observed the curious woman as she spoke, the construct remaining motionless until Lorraine finished, and as she did it gave a short bow and spoke in the gentle voice once more:

"I will be waiting until that time, it was good to talk to you to, Lorraine."

And as the woman headed off, so too did Magpie, walking at a brisk, but for the warforged natural, pace that brought it towards the meager tent it had established as its home.

There were a few advantages to being a mechanical construct built for war; one, for instance, was good hearing, a fundamental sense of calm and, of course, the ability to render most opponents severely wounded in a short time. At the moment, both its first and second advantage, although thankfully not the third, was informing Magpie that there was a group of people gathering just a few tents away from its home. One amongst them Zant!

It walked over, lumbering unnecessarily (although, of course, it couldn't help but), and the green in its eyes gave a little flare as it comes up to him.

Zant inclined his head to the construct before nodding it towards Shawn's tent and entering in time to catch Asp's remark.

"A possibility, though if such is the case I am unable to provide any assistance." he said, not betraying any surprise he might have felt at Shawn's appearance. "Have you been confined to this form since we last traded words?"

Warforged were intelligent. They would have to be, considering they had been designed, originally, not only for warfare but for a multitude of tasks that required it to make minor decisions and alterations to the original order due to irregularities in the environment. Tactical sense required a mind capable of instant adaptation and cognitive thinking to a degree.

Magpie, however, was not very adept at reading body language. So when Zant nodded his head towards the tent, right after inclining it towards Magpie, the warforged walked after him, standing outside the entrance to the tent or, if Zant continued into it, it would try to follow him inside.

Intelligent, yes, tactful, not really. But it's a bit hard to be when you're a 7 foot something mechanical construct.

Trivale looked up from his musings at the telepathic message to find Feldrem, and he can at least manage a small smile at this turn of events. "I'm... just thinking." Trivale answered, a note of apprehension in his voice. "Its just that.. I've only been here a scant few weeks, and already... I didn't even know him well." An opportunity, perhaps, for the tiefling to reach out. Perhaps even someone whom he could have turned to for help, now gone in the blink of an eye. "And I'm not entirely sure what I'm even feeling right now. Or... if that's even real. I... I think it is..." For just a moment, perhaps, one might even have seen the fear he was feeling, written on his face.

But it was quickly gone, replaced in a quick shake of his head with a somewhat more composed Trivale. "Pardon me for being bad company today. Probably good that I'm taking a bit of a rest right now, huh?"

Planewalker's Guild - Shawn's Tent

Thankfully for Shawn, even were Zant to enter, her tent simply isn't large enough to hold two adults, a child, a kender, and a warforged on top of all that. Though the construct's piercing green gaze and looming physique lurking outside the flap certainly isn't likely to help her in what's already a fairly difficult situation for her. Things are quickly growing crowded here for Shawn, and it certainly can't be helping to ease her mind any.

"Whatever it is, we need to find some help for you, and quick before it gets worse. You're coming with me, Shawn, I'm going to find something that can help you. All right?"

Planewalker's Guild - Commons

Smiling sadly, Feldrem puts his hand on Trivale's shoulder. "Maybe, but you can't let yourself dwell on it either. I know you lost a companion, and that's never easy to get used to, but he survived, yes? Maybe someday you'll find him again. Try not to dwell on it, Trivale. It sounds harsh, but people come and go all the time from the Guild, it's the nature of the place. Yes, it's usually under better circumstances, but that doesn't always help. Sometimes you'll go months, even years between seeing a friend, but the important thing is to make those relationships anyway, and pick them up when you can. And if you spend more time around other people, maybe it'll help you get a better handle on your own feelings. Learn what's you and what's not.

"And as for that problem...well, remember what I told you: the first step in knowing their minds is knowing yours. Take the techniques I've been teaching you for others, and try and apply them to yourself. Turn your gaze inwards, and see what you find. With enough study, maybe that will help you find what it is you've lost."

Shawn's ears fold back as she tenses up again, digging her claws in and glancing nervously around at the assembled crowd. "N..N-no, it's fine, I'll be..I'll be okay! Really! Go on without me!"

"While I respect your need for a certain degree of privacy," the gensai said, his voice betraying the slightest hint of emotion, "it might be prudent to inform your caretaker on the exact nature of your condition or, failing that, to the best of your knowledge. Should you refrain from doing so I fear that Florence will exhaust herself searching for a cure."

Magpie had remained outside, as the tent was clearly too big for it to fit in along with the others. For a few seconds, it looked like it would return to its own tent, but instead it decided to stay, back against the entrance of the tent and arms folded, making for a rather impressive, although unasked for, guard.

If anyone wanted to get inside, they would have to confront the construct about it... but then again, that went for anyone who wanted to get out, as well...

Lorraine happened to be passing by, and couldn't help but notice Feldrem and Trivale talking. The latter didn't look so happy. Hm. Must be down on his luck. Well, she had a way to help with that!

The tiefling fixes what he hopes is a friendly smile to the newcomer. "No no, not at all." It was, perhaps, a good thing for Trivale's mind to move on to other thoughts. But he filed away Feldrem's words anyway. Learn what's me, huh? he muses before offering "Please, have a seat."

And have a seat Lorraine did! She wasted no time:

"I'm looking to do a job in Automata soon, and I'm digging around for peopel to go with me. Word has it there's quite a bit of money to be made, smuggling some chaotic priests out of the place. No idea why they're there to start, but you can understand why they'd want to leave, and how much they'd pay to get a hand on their way out. Interested?"

Without missing a beat, she had helped herself to something from Feldrem's plate, just around when she'd mentioned the Chaos Priests, and now chewed noisily, waiting for Trivale to consider the offer.

"I could try to help with that," Trivale answered hesitantly. "Wonder what they thought they would be doing there in the first place." Perhaps Feldrem was right, in his way. Brooding about it certainly wouldn't help anyone. With that in mind, he sits up a little bit straighter. "How soon were you planning on leaving anyway?"

Hm. She'd been so busy thinking of how she could study Magpie more closely that she hadn't actually considered traveling arrangements or times. It was less of an issue on the stairs, but that it was an issue remained true.

She knew basically where to go, and she had a fair idea of how to get there from the stairs. So, the idea time to leave would be about now, but that wasn;t a realistic option without one or two more persons, in case she was found by one of those demonic bastards again. That about settled that...

"I need to find a couple more people to go with us, but after that we could leave today, really. So long as it's sort of soon. We're looking at a seven hour trip to get there."

Shawn continues to look around nervously. "No, I j-just.." her eyes dart between the assembled group, panicking. "It's..I..." She shakes her head frantically before blurting out, "I just need some fresh air!"

She leans back on her haunches, springing forward and leaping gracefully out of the tent.

Shawn arcs through the air, flying over Florence's head as she ducks in surprise. She twists past Zant, getting in position to land gently on all fours just outside...but she hadn't realized the presence of the warforged just outside. She smacks head-first into its chest, falling to the ground somewhat dazed.

At the sound of the impact, Florence scrambles to her feet and almost jumps outside herself, stopping briefly upon seeing Magpie. After a moment to collect herself, though, she kneels next to the now-prone girl, gently feeling her forehead for signs of a cracked skull. "Shawn, are you all right? ...Are you awake?"

Taking out a strip of gauze and moistening it with her waterskin, Florence holds the cloth to Shawn's head, looking up to Zant, and getting out of his way if necessary. "Is she all right, Zant? It doesn't feel broken, but she's got a nasty bump..."

Giving Lorraine an amused smirk, Feldrem leans back slightly, sliding his plate to Lorraine. "Oh, feel free. I'm feeling full anyway. Do you two know each other?"

...what?

The warforged, who had understandably been somewhat confused by the rapid speech of the people inside the tent, had found its attention drifting to a passing cloud up above, its eyes gleaming as it watched the puff of white gently drift by up in the air. It hadn't intended to intrude upon anything, and had tried its best to remain uninvolved with the general panic building up inside the crowded abode (without any means to express this desire, it wasn't sure the others had realized), but as something smacked straight into the chest-plates of the warforged, it shuddered suddenly, taking an involuntary step backwards before bending down to the prone, small figure underneath it, looking at it with those gently glowing green orbs that made up its eyes.

"What... happened...?" the voice of the construct was hardly showing any emotion, but as it continued to speak its speech grew more rapid and less syllabic, "My deepest apologies, I was unintentionally blocking your way..." a small pause before it added in afterthought, do you require aid?"

The construct was large and slender, vaguely humanoid but without much of any defining features, its face like a helmet, body hinting at an attempt to make a muscular, imposing figure, a construct created for war, a warforged.

(This design, roughly, although somewhat more similar to this as far as build goes; more slender than brawny.)

Lorraine helped herself, and nodded gratefully to Feldrem. In retrospect, that was rude. Still, she was distracted with strange possibly intelligent golem men dancing in her head. Clearly, this must vindicate her, as she didn't' feel very guilty about it.

"Not as such, no. I just happened to be passing by, and saw a sad face and figured 'A little fresh air and the promise of money can't hurt!'"

In retrospect, that also wasn't great reasoning. Still, she was giddy and would stay that way for a while.

Darting forward from her shoulder, Aaron snatches a bit of food from Lorraine's fingers, gulping it down quickly to the laughter of Feldrem. "Well, Trivale, it looks like you'll have some pleasant company on this trip if nothing else. It should be an exciting time for you two, though I hope not too exciting. Do you think you'll need anything from me before you head off?"

As Rosalyn took the torch back, she began to look worried about what Theller had said.

"Disaster?" she asked, sounding alarmed. Considering where it was they had gone... "I... is everyone alright?"

A whole rush of disturbing thoughts ran through her head at once. Maybe she was prying, but... she didn't like the idea of what might have happened. If someone she knew had been hurt... or worse...

Should she have gone with that group instead? She might not have been all that big of a help for her own group, but if she'd gone with the other one, there might have been something she could have done. Maybe, maybe not, but... her whole purpose in this guild was to protect people on their explorations of the planes. By making the decision to go to Limbo, she had failed to live up to that purpose, or at least she was telling herself now. Needless to say, she felt no small amount of guilt at that moment.

Possibly a bit arrogant of her, but it was a sudden outbreak of emotion, and rationality didn't have much say.

Zant knelt down next to the stunned creature that Shawn had become and carefully examined her skull for any signs of damage.

(Heal check for the purposes of diagnosis. Hoping for impaired motor function, as a cat sized wheelchair would be adorable. As would a miniature Tenser's Floating Disc.)

So far as he can tell, Shawn seems to be fine, with no lasting injuries worse than a bump on the head. She seems a little out of it, but that shouldn't last...too long.
