Lorraine was quiet for a moment as she looked the oddity over. It had seen some action, it looked like. The way it spoke was strange, and might have put another person off. Lorraine was only taken with wondering how it might have been taught or programmed to make this sound; A recording would have simply sounded like a tinny human... This sounded more like it had been taught to construct words from some base syllables. Again, not what she'd expect for a simple Golem. So what did that make him (it, she reminded herself absent mindedly), and who could have built him? For what purpose? It seemed to be going around and helping people in general, but she hadn't been watching long enough to be sure there wasn't an over-all pattern to it.

Realizing she'd been silent for several seconds, she replied: "Hello there!"

Planewalker's Guild

While Lorraine and Magpie meet for the first time in one segment of the platform, in another the midday meal is being served, drawing a good number of guild members once more to the public commons to eat. Of the core travelers, most are hopefully included in this number, as some may not have seen one another for a full month, busy in their own matters as they may have been. Even merely an exchange of pleasantries, a sharing of goals or recently-heard jobs, all have the opportunity to blossom into further interactions. If not present, though, they are sure to be involved in their own social dealings elsewhere, of interest to many as they are sure to be.

Shawn is strangely absent from affairs today. Over the last week, in fact, she's hardly been seen. She has, however, been heard in her tent. ..Mostly yelling at people to leave her alone.
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

Asp, having spent a week engrossed in the study of chaos-stuff, has lately been engaged in a peculiar sort of research, busily scribbling away in his various spellbooks and inviting anybody who shows an interest to have input into the scribing process. Between this and a tendency to get distracted from his research by interesting things, it's probably taken him a bit longer than it would a more dedicated wizard, but there are definitely a few new spells in his repertoire now.

At any rate, the cycle of research is now at an end, to the potential worry of anybody into whose business he might stick his nose. Surprisingly, he has managed to completely miss the arrival of Magpie, through a series of chance non-meetings. One thing he hasn't missed however, is that Shawn seems to be sulking. Kender, as a race, aren't really big on sulking. They might give it a go from time to time for the novelty value, but that short attention span dooms all such efforts in short order.

Thus, Asp's reaction to Shawn's sulking is that perhaps she'd like some company. After all, there's no logical reason why sulking shouldn't be a group activity, and he's sure he can come up with a few things to be gloomy about if he puts his mind to it.

Having acquired a short length of wood from somewhere, Asp holds it up next to the flap of Shawn's tent and knocks loudly. Terrible design flaw in tents, really, that lack of surfaces on which to knock.

There's a muffled sound of surprise from within Shawn's tent, and after a moment of orienting herself, she shouts out, her voice sounding clogged and mildly congested-

"What the fu...Go away, goddamnit, I'm sick!"
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

As Lorraine spent some more time observing the golem-like construct, she could see that the scratches... weren't really scratches at all. Sure, there were plenty of small ones from all manners of waponry, but what she'd first thought was battle damage... were intricate patterns moving all across the gleaming mithril and the dark, almost black wood that made up its form. The patterns formed circles, lines of... of words. Words so small they looked like straight lines.

It continued to care for the shields as she observed it, doing it, she noticed, without looking at it but it had instead its tiny specks of green observing the woman for a while. The look was... it was like something old and big, a giant, who'd just woken up. A kind of... curious watching, the creature stumped as to what this tiny thing would be... and whether it should eat it or just leave it alone.

But there was no sense of enmity radiating from Magpie, who merely blinked... Well, it looked like blinking, the light quickly dimming and then flaring up again.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" it asked as it put aside the last shield, the two gleaming as if they were hanging on display at a particularily nitty armssmith. "My name is Magpie," it spoke with its choppy, syllabic tone, looking at her...

Lorraine had probably noticed quite early that aside from the two shields, Magpie seemed to carry a small arsenal with itself. Strapped to a Sam Browne* belt was the scabbard of an impressive looking sword, the hilt and cross-guard made out of material looking quite similar to the Warforged itself. Although the blade looked to be of high quality, The flail, wound together on the other hip, and glaive, strapped to the back, seemed of much lesser worth, but polished to a shine none the less.

While other people were doing their own thing, Rosalyn was uncreatively showing up for lunch at the dining area. For once, she wasn't planning on running down to Limbo again today to mess around with the chaos matter. She had, after all, managed to turn up a lead for another quest recently, so it made more sense for her to hang around the guild headquarters for a while now to see if she could get anyone together to go after it.

Down in the Outlands, something odd was going on in one of the villages. It didn't really seem too menacing, just people being inexplicably cured of their ills, though the recent loss of communication with the place could have sparked a bit of suspicion. In any case, it seemed like something worth checking out.

"You're sure? I can have the kitchen rustle some up no trouble," Asp says, "Anyway, you can't stay all cooped up in here. That's what the germs want," he continues sagely, quite oblivious to Shawn's efforts to get rid of him. Nobody ever really means it when they say to go away (another of those kender articles of faith).

"Come on out and get some sunlight," he carries on, sticking his head in the doorflap, "Or indeterminate-source-light, anyway. Probably close enough, but if not, I think there's a material plane down a couple of flights of stairs..."

The sight of a humanoid working out is one familiar to most. Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and bench presses are a part of life for a person trying to keep their body in shape, and considering that at any moment during a planar journey a group of Guild members might suddenly be called upon to run for their lives, being that sort of person is a survival trait.

However, someone with the basic humanoid shape - one head and four limbs - who passes by Theller doing his morning workout is likely to see a set of workouts that they may have never seen before and definitely cannot do themselves.

Theller has set up near the bathing tents two flat benches of the type that bench presses are done on and arranged them parallel to each other and about six feet apart. He is lays between them on his stomach, his arms crossed beneath him.

He stretches his wings out to their full eleven-foot span and lets them lay on the benches in such a way that the centers of the benches sit under about the centers of his wings. Then, taking a deep breath, he starts to push himself up with his wings, tilting up on his toes like a person doing push-ups and counting out his repetitions out loud. After about ten, his voice is strangled and gasping, and at twenty he puts out his arms to catch himself as he relaxes his burning, aching posterior-pectoral muscles (i.e. the separate set of pectoral muscles that flex his wings for him).

"Three more sets full," he mumbles to himself a little angrily, getting into a sitting position and flapping his wings slowly to get the blood flowing to the muscles involved. "I do hate these..."

(OOC: It occurs to me that with arms and wings, Theller actually probably has two different sets of pectoral muscles. This is significantly less weird than the musculature of a marilith probably is. Thoughts, anybody?)

"Yes, but lying in bed all week won't help," Asp says, tying the tent flaps back to let a bit of indeterminate-source-light and fresh air in, "What do you have, anyway? The Creeping Doom? Measles? Chicken-pox? Ooh! Is it the Dreaded Lurgi? And how do you do that booming voice?"

"Leave it to me!" Asp says enthusiastically, zipping off in search of a cleric and some form of musical instrument. Seeing as there is no door, he chalks that up to hallucinations setting in, possibly as a result of the Creeping Doom. While this means that Shawn is momentarily rid of Asp, it surely won't be long before he returns with someone else in tow. There's precious little chance of him getting distracted from something this interesting.

Planewalker's Guild

Darting off from Shawn's tent, Asp barely notices the woman in front of him - a middle-aged woman, black hair tied back and green eyes, stopping just in time to avoid a collision. She glances up at the tent he just left, before looking back to Asp. "...Oh, you're a friend of Shawn's? I think I've seen you around her before. Is something wrong? Why the rush?"

Meanwhile, back in the tent, Shawn soon notices she's still got a guest around. While she lies in the sleeping bag, she feels a weight on her; Nora, Asp's cat, looks to have stayed behind to keep her company. Curled up on her, she's already drifted off to sleep.

Shawn pokes at the cat, and it shifts! It stands and hops off, but before long, she can spot the movement of sheets as it noses at the edges, trying to poke its head inside. Too stubborn to listen, this cat.

Back outside, Florence looks back to the tent with horror. "What? You're serious? How bad is she? How long's she been sick? Is she feeling all right?"

Planewalker's Guild

Ignoring her requests entirely, Nora pokes her head through the sheets. She stares at Shawn, tilting her head in befuddlement and making a small mew. She begins to crawl closer to her with a look of curiosity, heedless of protests to the contrary.

"...I don't think diseases work that way." Her eyes continue to jump between Asp and Shawn's tent, and she makes no effort to hide the growing worry that crosses her face. "...But if she's that sick, go, hurry! I'll keep an eye on her."

Well, wow. It had a name, and the manners to introduce itself. Well, she could hardly refuse to do the same. Besides, maybe they'd start up a conversation and she could learn how diverse it's mannerisms really were!

"It is a... pleasure to meet you too, Lorraine." It spoke, without any real emotion but at least with the appropriate manners. It stood suddenly, only a bit above 7 feet, and although large, with its plated, wood-wrought muscles, it was only a tad bit taller than what you would see amongst men, perhaps somewhere between six and seven feet tall. Although muscular, it was sleek, a design intended to perhaps make a more mobile and flexible warrior rather than one whose brute strength made it successful.

It came to her that the construct hadn't responded to the question posed, but after a few seconds it spoke again... only this time, its voice was somewhat less choppy, and definitely had more of a tone in it; "I have been here for a few weeks, Lorraine, and I hope... that I have left an impression on those whom I have met." it seemed rather a... heartfelt remark by the warforged, especially considering the question had been fairly simple.

"I do not believe I have seen you here before... would it be that you are... new around here, as well?"

How odd, it's voice changed. ... And that was the last thing she was expecting it to say. This would be quite the puzzle to solve, this man of mithril and darkwood.

"No, no I'm not actually. I've been with the guild for a while, but I'm usually headed out somewhere or other, doing some silly thing, you know."

From her tone, you'd never know that she'd nearly been killed recently... She thought quickly. Yes, she could use that to gauge it's mental complexity.

"I'm actually thinking about heading out again, soon, once I find some folks to go with me. There's something strange happening in Automata; Apparently someone's been trying to help Chaos Priests sneak out of there. There could be some money in helping that along. Would you want to come and help me with that?"

Planewalker's Guild

Lunch passes fairly uneventfully for Rosalyn; some guild members show up to eat with her, chatting about goings-on in the guild and whatnot, but none of her recent travel companions, unfortunately. However, her luck isn't completely out that day. After eating, while walking the platform, she hears grunts in a familiar voice, not far from the "path". Looking through the tents, she can spot Theller in the middle of his workout, alone and focused on his wing lifts.

The eyes of the construct gleam as Lorraine speaks to it, but the construct says nothing... a disconcerting thing as most people would at least nod or give the occasional "hmm" or "yeah" in acknowledgement. When she had finished, Magpie remained as still as a statue for a little while... before slowly folding its arms, a strange gesture, but its body language seemed to speak of... confusion?

"I was... not aware that there were Priests of Chaos in the plane of Law..." it spoke with its syllabic voice, "...But it is understandable that they would want to leave, considering the circumstances." Its voice seemed to shift almost constantly between syllabic and being softer and more fluid, almost gentle, "Yes... I believe I want to help you with that." It finished almost with some afterthought.

The warforged then turned silent as it turned to pick up the shields and a small bottle with a rag tied to it. It uncorked the bottle, poured some of the oil inside it on the rag and began to apply some of the stuff to the shields, a standard practice amongst those who keep weapons and armor, as the oil protects against rust and other forms of damage.

His last set complete, Theller lays panting on the ground, catching his breath. He forgets about this when he catches sight of Rosalyn, though, hauling his tall, thin body to its taloned feet and attempting to flag her down as he pulls the torch that was borrowed from her out of his pack.

After the mind-flaying winds of Pandemonium, as well as the sudden loss of an ally, Trivale's confidence found itself at a temporary low. And very few ideas for what to do next about his own circumstances. Perhaps I could go back to that bar... later. MUCH later, preferrably. Don't think I could take any more of those damned winds. But even WITH that I haven't got much to go on. Not a name, not a thought... And with that thought, the sullen tiefling dug into his food.

Well, at least now I know for SURE that I can use a sword. And a bow. For all the good it did us. he groused.

Zant had not been himself for the past few days. He'd withdrawn into his tent, citing a need for meditation to any who asked, and had spent most of his time inside. He had been venturing out for meals, his facial expression carefully kept neutral and his conversation with others minimal. It was no surprise that he was within his tiny home now, legs crossed, eyes shut and a small bowl of water sitting in front of him.

Planewalker's Guild

While Shawn deals with one guest, another approaches. Florence pulls the flap back a bit, speaking quietly as she tries to spot her. "Shawn? Are you all right? I just got back, and I wanted to come by and say hello. Your friend told me you were sick, though, so I figured you could use some company. Where are you?"

While Trivale eats, a voice echoes in his head. Mind a guest?

Coming up from behind him, his recent psionic mentor Feldrem sits - a light-green-skinned aasimar, completely bald with solid-white eyes. He towers a few inches over six feet, and dresses in very simple, almost ascetic clothing. "You're not looking well. Something on your mind?"

Like Shawn before him, Zant finds his tranquility interrupted by the incongruous sound of knocking. Unlike Shawn, he has little time to ponder this, as Asp sticks his head in through the tentflap.

"Hiya, Zant," he says cheerfully, "You're a cleric, right? Only Shawn's come down sick with a bunch of stuff and sent me to fetch help."

Zant sat patiently for a moment, waiting for the little person to respond to his question. When he could see that no such reply was pending he rose to his feet, praying that there really was something wrong with Shawn.

"Lead the way, if you please." he said, a faint and pleasant smile on his face.
