AdriftFor now, the groups part, each pursuing their own interests in the Inner Planar city.
Rosalyn returns to the inn, to fulfill her duties to Fharlanghn. Her meal's certainly an odd one; a couple of slabs of half-transparent meat, garnished with a bluish-green lettuce-like leaf. The taste, though...it's subtle, and buried under a release of trapped water, but it's there. Just slightly reminiscent of beef, as if she were eating an unmarinated steak underwater. Though not bad, exactly, it's not an especially filling meal. After her food, she pays her tab, and moves on to her next task.
While poking around the market, looking for a salt merchant, Rosalyn's joined by Anne, who seems to have been in the process of doing the same while she ate. With their numbers doubled - tripled, even, as Shawn joins them in the middle of their search - they have better luck, coming across a stand where a large block of the white mineral sits, offering a packet of scrapings from it for a silver a pouch. Despite the humidity of this realm, it looks to be utterly untouched by the mist, even perhaps repelling it. The group makes their purchases, and split once more, each pursuing their own interests.
Meanwhile, while Rosalyn was satiating her curiosity and her appetite, Lux and Joss were in the process of looking about the city, seeking out great works of art to gaze upon. It doesn't take long for them to encounter Zant, who seems to be interested in some sight-seeing of his own. And after a short bit of inquiry, the trio are pointed to the dead center of town, where they're told there's a sight of a lifetime.
And indeed, this comment proves true when they arrive, joining with Anne and Shawn fresh off their salt purchase along the way. There, the travelers take in for the first time the
Floating Statues of Adrift. For the city seems not to have been built on a disc, but a ring, with a circular gap easily a half-mile across, somehow clear of fog, sitting in the center. And within this gap: statues, each at least a thousand feet tall, of human men and women. They're utterly still relative to the city, neither spinning nor drifting on the air, and despite the wide patches of this plane's ever-present bluish moss clinging to the stonework, their craftsmanship looks incredible; indeed, they appear to not be the only travelers gaping at the sight, as others can be seen standing and watching all along the inner edge.
But the biggest shame of all; the statues are but in pieces now, floating in a vague semblance of their original construction as they have ever been, as far as any questioned citizens are aware. Some merely have a separated arm or head, floating near where it was once attached. Others are wholly fragmented, recognizable only through the orientation of the pieces against one another. Despite the harm wrought, however, the beauty of the work is unmistakable. Whoever formed these, mortal or no, was quite obviously a master at their craft.
Eventually, however, their time in the city draws short, and with but an hour remaining before the departure of the
Wisprunner, they reconvene at the dock. There, the steamship readies itself for departure, a gangplank stretched up to its deck as steam mephits and humanoids alike load crates up, check rigging, and prepare the large puffy creature lashed to the gondola for the trip. It appears that Joss might have his chance after all.
However, not all news can be good: Besides Zant, the party's breath is starting to become somewhat ragged, the effort of drawing in such moisture-laden air starting to show its effect. Though still not half as bad as Joss's research had indicated, it's still showing its effects on the party, if subtly. Still, they struggle through it, overcoming the obstacle as best as each among them is able.
As mentioned, their time in Steam does seem to be getting to the party: as of now, everyone but Zant is fatigued from the thick air. With time, they'll likely adjust, but for now it's like being in the middle of a rain forest at high noon during monsoon season all the time. Only worse.
As for the various purchases people made: Rosalyn's meal was 5 silver overall, and the packets of salt were 1 silver apiece. Spendy, yes, but it's what the market'll bear here; blame planar cosmology.
Anne, Rosalyn, and Shawn should each mention, ICly or OOCly, how many (if any) packets each of them purchased, for records purposes. There's enough in one for about 6 meals'-worth for a single person, or a single meal for the whole party.
Finally, as for Rosalyn's question: as her meal might suggest, if they have any it's a very small amount. They seem to be mostly water by and large, much like the more elemental inhabitants.
