QUESTIONS!

Postby Ganonfro » Wed Jul 19, 2006 5:32 am

...Since it's 5:30, and I'm still awake, I've been reading over the GameFAQs message boards on FFV and FFVI advanced. Two questions arise.

1: There are new classes to be gotten in FFV, likely in some extra content. WHICH DO YOU THINK THEY WILL ADD?

2: People don't know who the main character for FFVI, though many claim it's Celes. WHO DO YOU THINK THE MAIN CHARACTER IS?

wasn't the point of FFVI to NOT have a main char?
failing that, i say Terra. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image

That's what I though! But apparently far too many people think that Celes is the ONLY choice, and I preferred to hear from people who had interesting opinions instead of stupid ones. And yes, any here who say Celes will be shot if not giving proper reasonings. *Points finger at any nere-do-wells*

1. Snipers, maybe?

2. Terra/Celes. Pre-WoR: Terra. WoR: Celes.

3. While I would've preferred FF3 in a graphically enhanced form (FF1 and FF2 received it, after all) finally getting it on the DS gives me sufficient reason to get one, I think. (Well, there's also such fare as Animal Crossing: WW, Another Code (which I inexplicably already own), Lost in Blue, Nintendogs, etc...)

4. Rocks fall, everyone dies. <p><hr />

Curtis: Oh, my pupil, so tenacious of life, guess I have to kill you again.
Dan: Shut up, before you run out of breath!
Curtis: I got rid of those smiles, there's no one left to disturb our game. Just you, and me.
Dan: Sounds fair, 'cuz I hate holding back, even for an old fart like yourself.
Curtis: Talk all you want, I won't need six bullets for you.

The thing about FF6 is that, honestly, the plot can't work at all without every character- Save maybe Gau, Mog, and of course Gogo and Umaro.

Just about everyone else plays a major part somewhere else in the plot.

And yes, I know Gau helped Cyan and Sabin, but anyone could have done that. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">What's wrong with this ring?!</div></p>

I will always staunchly claim that Locke was the main character (or at least HERO) of FF6. Honestly, he's the archetype that all the other heroes after him have modeled themselves after.

Allow me to break it down. He's:

A thief (Zidane)

Who's not necessarily the strongest, but quite quick (Tidus)

Who goes off on his own after a while and is a pain to get back (Crono)

And has a dead girlfriend (Cloud).

... Squall doesn't count. <.<

Although, yes, I agree, FFVI was indeed an ensemble affair, I still purport that the one true hero was the noble thief, Loc*tackled by someone screaming "THAT'S TREASURE HUNTER!"* <p><hr />

While I share the view that the main character was Terra and Celes, I always thought Locke held the mantle for awesomitude. And because his steal command was actually useful in the game.

NEWS!

In EGM for this month, it seems there's a new class in FF3 for DS! It's called Iron Knight, with claims is completely new.

Honestly? I think the main character was, well, Kefka. Because seriously, he's one of the few that stay from beginning to end. And hey, he was the main antagonist, if nothing else.

But failing that, yeah. Locke is pretty close to being a main character, since he really had the most plot development. I mean, aside from Terra and to a much lesser degree Celes and Sabin, he was the only one who had a -past.-

Also, the new class should be 'Imp' or 'non-suck Bard.' Or something.

Can you really call Kefka the main character, though? Honestly, he gets barely any background, and he's not that developed beyond "crazy clown". I mean, the only thing that comes close to a pre-game background for him, besides Terra's brief flashback, is a single line from an NPC in Vector that's easily missed, since he's tucked away in a corner of town and only there pre-Magitek Factory. <p><hr />

I'm hoping this does well enough to encourage them to do similar things for other games, myself. :D

I mean, rereleases (even FF4GBA-add-a-bunch-of-new-stuff-style) are well and good, but they do get kind of boring. <p><hr />

The best thing for FF4A for me was the holy-shit-this-translation-isn't-ass! Granted my acute fangirlism, the new bits felt really out of place; almost makes me wish it'd been my first play-through (not quite, though). They still added to the fun, nonetheless (go go bard!) <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">dictionary.com | encyclopædia dramatica

My favorite thing about FF4A, though I haven't played it, was Cid saying something like "Those goons wrecked my airship up something awful!"

Idran, in Nintendo Power, they say it's a distinct possibility that if FF3 is a hit, they'd consider redoing the others that way too.

I'd like to see FF3j in a slightly revamped but relatively similar form simply because, even with all of its problems (required rampant power levelling most of all) I still enjoyed playing it far more than any other FF, ever. Not quite sure why, just the way it is.

Also, main character: still Terra/Celes. Celes automatically becomes the main character in World of Ruin, at least, simply because you start off with her right off the bat and can (as long as you gank Setzer and Edgar) go straight to Kefka and defeat him without help from any of the other characters. <p><hr />
<div style="text-align:center"><span style="font-size:xx-small;">Curtis: Dannyboy, look at you. You've changed considerably, into a badass, if I may.

Don't you have to have four characters there? Edgar, Setzer, Celes....who was the other one...Sabin? <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Nope, it's possible to just go there with Celes, Edgar, and Setzer.

Setzer you need for the airship, and Edgar you need... for having another character, I guess. You only need to split into three teams for the attack on Kefka's tower, which means one character per team.

...But is that a requirement for her being a "main" character? I've never thought that just because you're forced to play someone while searching for other characters means they are any more important. I've tried playing the game without getting Sabin after the world changes. It's hard as fucking hell. Also, that must make the talks with Edgar really weird... I thought he was required to get to continue on, in South Figaro.

I don't have the citation for it, but I believe Square claimed that FF6 didn't have a main character. The player was to decide who they liked most, pretty much. I'd have to find out where it was said to make sure I'm right though.
