So, if Heaven's Gate claimed the lives of 100,000 people, THEN it would be a religion?
Dictionary.com says that a cult is "a religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader." So, in that, it can be said that regardless of how many people were in Heaven's Gate, it would still be a cult, but, it cannot be said that Mormonism is a cult.
Anymore.
But, still, often the reason why people are against the Mormons is because they were the ones who took a step past Christianity to something else. Frankly, IMHO, it was a WRONG step, but that statement alone won't stop people from believing. Which is fine. We all need answers to life's questions, and there are a myriad ways to answer them.
Anyways, I MIGHT go see the movie, even if it's just to see how they deal with their edited holy book and the fact that it was once canon (not just some guys twisting scripture, but actual, irrefutable scripture) to be prejudiced against African Americans... <p>--------------------
