Square Enix announces Romancing SaGa Remake

I hope someone else besides me has played the original RS, but anyway, it`s really old, outdated, and kinda sucks, but the storyline is so open-ended and awesome, as well as the magic attacks, weapons, and just general leveling system was so advanced for its time. (1992) I never played the original SNES version, but I bought the WS port here in japan, which is basically the same game with more save slots. Anyway, it is a super super cool game, I was really surprised at how good it was. I can`t wait to see what kind of stuff they`ll add to this and fix it.

When I was playing it, the only gripes I had was that there were a little too many random battles (You could see the monsters in the game. However, that meant that when you entered a new area, you would basically be raped by a screen FILLED with monsters running around, with maybe one or two squares of walking space only.) and that the only chests in the entire game were sparce and contained puny amounts of gold that you could get for completing one battle.

Anyway, if you can`t tell, I am super excited to see that they are remaking this game, because it will definitely rock. yay!

Oh, come on guys, it`ll be good. I mean, This is kind of an exception, because no one in america got a chance to play RS when it first came out, and they are changing it and adding to it so much that it`s more like a sequel.
---------------

This does indeed seem cool.

But S-E needs to realize one thing...

If they did the same thing with FF6, they'd make trillions...
--------------------

YEs they would. Though adding some difficulty to that game would be nice. I always thought that FF6 was a bit too easy. This is ignoring the in-game glitches, which, if used, make the game MUCH MUCH too easy. Clear/Doom, anyone? Even works on Kefka!

They would indeed make a lot lot lot of money re-making(instead of just re-releasing) FF6, since in my feeble opinion it was the best one made.

Though judging many of S-E's recent efforts, they might make it suck. Make Terra and Celes all fanservice-y, and make the characters whose intelligence was refreshing and surprising (like Sabin. Who expects a Brawler with a good vocabulary?) into stupid stereotypes.
[---------------------------]

Vanish + Doom = InstaDeath to... pretty much every enemy in the game =[

And then there were the fun glitches caused when Relm sketched something invisible.

And by fun I mean corrupting your save halfway through the freakin game. >=[

"Clear" is the status effect caused by the spell "Vanish." If you're "Clear"ed, then you have no MagDef (the downside of being "clear"). There are spells in the game, though, that USE MagDef as well as MagPow to decide their success ratio... like Doom. If your magic defense is 0, then Doom has a 100% chance of succeeding, no matter what the caster's MagPow. Hence, the glitch.

FF6 is glitch-ridden in fairly obvious places (The above Glitch). Some in less obvious places (Wind God Gau). All of this probably because the programmers got slightly lazy with it (a la Kidd Radd, though it would take more work to do what was wrong with Radd. It's almost always easier to specify a number than to leave a spot blank)
Actually, "Clear" is an incredibly glitchy status effect. It's not anywhere near as broken as Bersk in FF4 (where your character's speed and attack power doubles in exchange for you not being able to control them, which isn't much of a loss for non-spellcasters, and especially not a loss for Cecil) but the game's logic apparently isn't built to sustain it all that well. Perhaps if they cleaned it up...

A funny side note- Errant Story (a pretty good webmanga) features a student stating that their final project at a magic academy is an effort to explain the Clear/Doom paradox.
[---------------------------]

The original FF6 english translation (FF3) was translated by Ted Woosely. In that version, the spell you called "Clear" was called "Vanish." I was just wondering where you got "Clear" from.
---------------

Vanish/Doom isn't a glitch, you know. There are things it won't work on, like the Goddess Statues and Final Kefka. Vanish/Doom meant to be in the game. Besides, Vanish/Imp is much cooler :(

I agree with Pervy. The whole point of using Vanish on enemies is to make them more susceptible to magic. In some cases, more damage, in others, a greatly enhanced chance of success. If anything, it wasn't originally intended but was left in because they liked it. Like the multi-coin blocks or walking on the ceiling in SMB.

...Am I the only one here who didn't care at all for FF6?

Additionally, I say they should remake some other games. Such as Seiken Densetsu 3. Or if it has to be a FF, why not FF4?

...I would have said Xenogears, but that technically is being "remade" in the form of Xenosaga (Of which Episode 2 sucks)
ChibiUrusai: *chomps* I am underage. ^-^

FF4 was a great game, except how they "conveniently" killed off every party member in order to make new ones. That, and tracking through that huge tower like five times got a little repetitive. I don't think it beats FF6, though.

They should remake FF2. . .and make it not suck.
---------------

On the plus side, if they remade FF4, they could do it with graphics that don't burn my eyes off my face! Then I could actually play it!

Fdeth makes a valid point.

Yeah, a remake of FF4 would be good, because it had a really good plotline and stuff. Good weapons, good bosses.

Same with FF5, though. I mean, the two games sort of go hand-in-hand, really bad graphics, but great stories and gameplay.
---------------

FF5 didn't have great graphics, but it didn't have the eye-murdering colour contrasts that FF4 did. FF5 is actually probably my favourite Final Fantasy game made so far. Not that I would mind a remake of it, as long as they keep it simple enough not to have the god-awful load times that the Playstation release had. Cripes.

Well, if any games should be remade, they should be remade using the best of the current technology. Meaning, 3d. Just adding new sprites and stuff, I would probably rent it, but it's pretty much the same game. But going from 2d to 3d, that takes some work. and it makes the game end up a lot different.
---------------
