And now, for the First Annual Overly Violent Filmfest!

Unread postby NebulaQueen » Mon Sep 13, 2004 6:03 pm

*ahem* And now, for a brief idea I had about a potential activity for when we meet up for Sugoicon. Inspired by a talk on movies in RPGWW chat.

Basically, sometime during Sugoicon, we all sit around and watch a collection of entertaining and violent movies (as the name suggests). So far, the list includes...

*Boondock Saints
*Pulp Fiction
*The Kill Bill movies
*Resevoir Dogs
*Maybe some old school samurai and kung fu movies
*That one episode of Excel Saga that makes fun of Fist of North Star
*Battle Royale, suggested by Gus
*Braindead, aka Dead Alive, again suggested by Gus (as he described it: "Braindead - the most violent film ever made. Peter JAckson before he did lord of the rings")
*Versus, suggested by the Shini (unrated version, if he can get ahold of it)
*Evil Dead Series

And maybe some more.

However...it should be noted that it likely won't be possible to see all the movies suggested, due to a lack of time. But, when it gets closer to the con, we can choose between the nominees.

Anyways, discuss this as you wish. I'd like to see if this could work out or not.

And now, new nominations!

*Robocop (suggested by DM, and I am shamed for having forgotten about it. ._. )
*Evil Dead Trap (suggested by End)
*Zombie (again End)
*He Never Dies (End-are you sensing a pattern here?)
*Random Italian Cannibal flicks + Guinea Pig Flicks (End-see his post for all the titles)
*Bad Taste (Suggested by Molokidan. Another pre-LotR Jackson film)
*Terror Firmer (Molokidan)
*Begotten (Molokidan)
*Organ (Molokidan)
*Inferno (Molokidan)
*Driller Killer (Molokidan)
*El Topo (Molokidan, and holy crap, I want to see this movie)
*Santa Sangre (Molokidan)
*Freddy vs Jason (McBastard)
*Clockwork Orange (Ducky)
*Shaun of the Dead (Jak, and I would like to mention that it has the best tagline for a film ever)
*Fists of the White Lotus (FD)
*Shaolin Challenges Ninja (FD)
*Once Upon a Time in Mexico (Me)
*Desperado (It's the movie that came before Once Upon a Time in Mexico! However, Mexico is still fun if you haven't seen this one)

And yes, I know it's impossible to see all of them. :( Hence, why the movies will be voted on and weeded out when it gets closer to the con. <p>

Mmm, Braindead. Classic movie. It's called Dead Alive over here, though.

I'm not sure if many people would be up to it, but there are always the old Italian Cannibal flicks - Cannibal Ferox, Cannibal Holocaust, et al. They're somewhat notorious, so they're rather easy to find info on. From what little I've seen and heard, they're crappy movies as is, but they may satisfy any gorehounds. :O Hand in hand with these go the Guinea Pig flicks. Flower of Flesh and Blood, Devil's Experiment, Mermaid in a Manhole, and one that I can never remember the title of.
He Never Dies is also in the series, and is apparently a rather good slapstick comedy with heavy amounts of blood, so if you can find it, that's one to consider!

There's also Zombie (as it's referred to here), from Lucio Fulci. Zombie flick, somewhat healthy amount of painful-looking yet obvious gore effects. The voice acting alone is pure, cheesy entertainment.

From what I've heard, Evil Dead Trap from the crazy Japanese folks also features a fair amount of gore. And, hey, both feature scenes of sharp objects piercing an eyeball. It's a slasher-type flick, or so I've heard. I kind of doubt most RPGWW folks are interested in that genre (cepting possibly Ash and a few others) but it's always there. <p>

Takorou: Look here. It's a word used to refer to everyone: old, young, man, and woman. "Rou-nyaku-nan-nyo". But you would say "rou-nyaku-nan-nyo-nyo". Here's another one. In Italy, there's a region called Bologna. You would say, "Bologna-nyo". In Buddhism, there's a word called "nyorai", but you'd say "nyorai-nyo". Could you stop saying, "nyo"?
Dejiko: No-nyo. I don't plan to stop-nyo. Go somewhere else-nyo.</p>Edited by: Crawling Reshiki at: 9/13/04 6:13 pm

I want Shini to see the scene with the baby carriage. :(

As well as what happens when that door is forced open.

These lines are vague yet to avoid spoilers, but they consist of my favorite parts. :D <p>

I've seen Dead Alive.

Chris. If you can't handle Dead Alive/Brain Dead, then you suck. :{ Watch it. Seriously. <p>

Not exactly overly violent, but more like deeply disturbing- Apocalypse Now, director's cut. That is one CREEPY flick.

And if you want violence, watch the first 20 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan" as well as the second part of the first half of that awful, awful anime, "Ninja Ressurection." <p>"There is great disorder under Heaven, and the situation is excellent."

Dead Alive is great! Chainsaw + Mindless Zombies, what else do you need?

Anyway, here`s my list:

Bad Taste - Also directed by Peter Jackson! This is really funny and has lots of blood and brains.
Terror Firmer - this is by tromafilms. Most of their movies are too porny to be any good, and while this has some nudity, it`s mostly gore. It`s pretty sick though.
Begotten - A black-and-white movie that is really trippy and gory. Made in 1991. It`s just...insane.
Organ - A japanese movie about organ transplants gone wrong! Fun for the whole family!
Inferno - By dario Argento. People don`t like him because his movies are kinda weird, but they`re funny!
Driller Killer - This guy uses a drill to murder people. Lots of blood!!!!
El Topo - A western on crack. A gunman goes to kill the 4 greatest gunmen in the world to prove to his lover that he loves her. Lots of blood ensues. However, the movie really heats up when he gets back and his girlfriend`s lesbian lover shoots the crap out of him. This movie is really weird! Midgets and stuff abound, and lots and lots of gore.
Santa Sangre - This is directed by the same guy who did El Topo. It`s about a parapeligic in the circus, something something, lots of blood.

I think that is all I can remember off the top of my head! Have fun guys!

If you want a hilarious slasher flick with alot of hilariously hilarious gore, you need to get Freddy VS Jason. <p><div style="text-align:center">

That movie`s more annoying cheese than it is gore. I mean, unless they had the dvd, then they could just select the fight scenes (which were surprisingly good) and watch those for a bit. <p>"Well slap a dead fish on me and call me Molokidan!"</p>

A Clockwork Orange. It's violent and has very graphic and somewhat disturbing rape scenes! <p>

I nominate Fists of the White Lotus for super duper kung fu action!

Also, Shaolin Challenges Ninja. <p>

*SHOCKED AND APPAULED*

I just realized I never thought to mention, nor did anyone else for that matter.

The Final Destination (and/or) The Final Destination 2.

If anyone is unfarmiliar with it the first one is about a guy who has premonisions about his own death on a plane crash, he immediatly freaks out and a bunch of hist freinds try to calm him down, but they are kicked off the plane. Turns out the plane does crash and now there is a rift in Death's design, that's right, Death has a plan for everyone to die in a certain order. So now basically Death is trying to kill them. Yes, you heard correct DEATH is trying to kill these people. If you've played The Incredible Machine or you like cause and effect it's a great movie, because none of the characters die simply, it's a huge song and dance with things hitting other things causing other crazy crap to happen.

Trust me, this is an excelent movie. Oh right, one last thing, did I mention that Death apparently has a sense of irony as well as a long streak of black humour? I'm pretty sure I did.... <p><div style="text-align:center">

Oh! OH! OH!!!

And Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter. It's not incredibly gory but awesomely awesome.

Well.....there was that time Jesus hit's that guy with a human liver.....so I guess it falls in the right catagory. Finding a copy may be a little more difficult as it was an Indie film, a Canadian Indie film. <p><div style="text-align:center">

LMB is right when he talks about FD and FD2. It's like that game Mousetrap, where all that stuff sets other stuff in motion, except instead of cages and such it uses cups of coffee, ovens, shower curtains, cars, trains, etc. <p>

Oh, yeah, Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter is a great movie. Hi-larious.

FD had some good kills, but FD2 was...meh. I think the two movies kinda fall into the gap of being a little too dramatic. . .although they're not BAD movies, that's kinda what this filmfest is about, just totally overly violent gorefests. <p>---------------

... I just realized.

How did you folks miss the Heavy Metal movies? They're two of the goriest animated films ever committed to celluloid, 'specially FAKK 2. Yes, the story is lacking. Yes, the boobs are largely unnecessary. Still overly violent.

Include it! <p>--------------------

They're bad-good movies. I mean, there is a bunch of trashy movies like Jesus Christ Vampire Slayer, if you're looking for stuff like that, like "Cheerleader Ninjas" and stuff. They're all chuckleworthy, but none really worth watching again.
