Remarkably stupid question time.

Unread postby Banjooie » Thu Nov 20, 2003 11:47 am

We all know what happens.

Parents see violent games.

They complain to the company.

Blah blah huge media uproar.

The question I have is:

Why do we as gamers continually have the same debate with ourselves every single time they do it?

It's the -exact- same debate, every single time.

Gamer 1: Parents should parent their children!

Gamer 2: Yes! Yes they should! Video games don't cause violence!

Gamer 3: ...Nope!

Gamer 4...5.....6.....7....236.....439469346.....: Nope!

For some reason, these threads are huge/conversations take hours. But it doesn't -mean- anything.

It's like a church of Christians having a debate on whether satan worshipping is good every single time there's mention of it on the news.

It's like a police department debating whether murder is bad whenever there's a murder.

I don't -get- it.

It allows people to bitch about those stupid grown ups/irresponsible parents?

Also, video games can cause violence. As can anything that frustrates you to a huge extent.

Well, I'll be. One of my favorite sites linked to this article that gives us the same exact argument that every other anti-video game activist has given thus far.

Oh no! Silent Hill is teaching my kids to beat misshapen mutated demons of Hell with a pipe! Forbid!

That article makes me feel dirty all over.

I am somehow related to the people who believe that sort of thing...they have the same origin I do....

Urgh.

Banj: Because it keeps coming up. Any time the topic comes up in the news or in a magazine or something, people get outraged all over again. There really is no point to it, besides letting people vent.

Which, in and of itself, is a good thing, because we wouldn't want them to hold in that anger and shoot/stab someone Image <p>

People need some one to blame, they can't accept that they failed or some thing like that. Any how its te stupid loser kids who have no life and stupid retards whose parents should have figured that out by now that give games a bad name.

Retailera are stupid though.
