The goblin thinks for a moment. "There's...four or five ogres, and...I don't know, six or seven priests? Most of the priests never leave the temple, though."

(No you didn't. I looked. You told me you weren't going to be around last weekend, but that's it.)

"Suffice to say, I've been ready," Adil replies, smirking behind the facecloth. That kid has some major overconfidence problems--that's for sure. Thinking he can distract an entire camp on his own?

I'm surprised he lived for this long without getting his head handed to him on platinum...

"Eight, it would seem, but not nine," Mulligan faces his employer, his impatience clear, "Mister Bergher," he says, enunciating these two words clearly, "as it would seem, we are raring to go fighting off a horde of dangerous, heavily armed people. It is no matter; this lot seems to be quite ready for such things. You, as callous as it is to say this, have a somewhat more important task to perform. I need you to go back to Breve. At very least, inform them that if and when everyone on the... diversion team dies painfully, they might end up with a retaliatory raid on their hands. You know, properly prepare their defenses or whatever it is militias do. Now, I only have one question for you. Do you want Cerlor to escort you, or can you handle it on your own?"

"Now, the lot of you," he ever-so-politely requests of his allies, "by the looks of it have a hell of a lot of killing to do and not a lot of time to do it in. Shall we get moving?"

"So you're STILL convinced that the guard can do a better job than us, and thus are willing to give up any and all benefits we might get?" Adil butted in quickly. "I'll kill, but I'm not stupid or weak enough to GET killed. You might want to keep in mind that we're not exactly weak--and that the diversion team is NOT going on a suicide mission, no matter how much you seem to be convinced of it to the point that you think the guard needs to step in. If you're so interested in the guard doing this, why don't you simply JOIN THEM YOURSELF?!"

He then turned his head southwest. "Enough. Let's go, before the wizard decides to send the guard in place of us entirely."

Bergher nods. "You have a point, Mulligan. I will notify the guard to stand ready in the unlikely case the eight of you don't succeed. I can handle going back to Breve myself; I know this area like the back of my hand, from when I was a young man. Please, bring my daughter back to me, quickly."

Mulligan takes a deep breath and continues on to Adil, "Ah! It is an awfully good thing to hear that you're not going to die. I'd hate to do the paperwork for it. At any rate, I am not suggesting that, gods and spirits forbid, force of numbers be even remotely on our side in this conflict. I am simply suggesting that the good sir here go back to town and, should there still be such, tell them there's a very large threat right on their doorstep and might they want to roll out the red carpet for their bloodthirsty visitors so that when all the blood and mess goes down they aren't caught unprepared?" He looks way up at the halfdragon's face and asks, "is that so very hard to comprehend?"

He nods to Mr. Bergher and adds, "Thank you, sir. We won't fail you."

Dashe sighed. All he wanted to do was get the job over with. He never really needed money, nor did he ever want any of the pride that went along with being a mercenary.

As the argument was ended with Mr. Bergher's decision, he took the goblin in his hands and quite forcefully shoved him ahead. "Lead the way."

Varlak simply shakes his head despairingly. The arrogance of the man. It's a good thing he isn't in the military. That kind of certainty that he can take on anything that gets in his way would get him and any number of people under his command killed in short order.

Mulligan, at least, has earned his respect by managing to get Dram Bergher out from underfoot and sending a warning to the town in one fell swoop. Not that he has anything against their employer, but having him safely out of harm's way is a plus. Now, if only somebody could dispose of the infuriating Adil...

No such luck, unfortunately. Declining to waste his breath arguing with him, he simply pushes on, sparing a nod for Dram as he leaves them. It shouldn't be too much longer before they reach the camp, and after a good look at the lay of the ground, they'll be able to make their final decisions.

Bergher takes a deep breath and exhales it in a loud sigh, before collecting his sunrods and leaving the copse.

It is, by now, quite dark. Those of you who who lack darkvision will need some source of light or travel blind.

Also, one hour has elapsed since Mulligan's spellcasting at the edge of the copse.

"You can see?" asked Dashe of the goblin, who walked before him. He made sure to keep a close eye on him, in case he tried to do something strange. Thanks to the spell he'd cast earlier, he was able to see quite clearly.

Of course, Adil didn't particularly understand the reason behind, or care for these little annoying details in protocol. The darkness, of course, was no stranger to him--being able to see in shades of gray was a good thing here. Sufficiently annoyed with the rest, he decided to stay silent for the time being.

(No more small-talk here, anyway)

Mulligan grimaces, wishing he had the proper spell prepared. He tugs on Dashe's leg. "You can see? Good. Carry me on your shoulders; you'll be with me on this anyway."

Completely beneath my dignity, he thinks angrily, but a man has to do what he has to do.

Mulligan, being about three and a half feet tall, would have difficulty attempting this feat of feet.

"Oh please." Mulligan says dismissively as he does so, "When a man can manipulate the fundamental nature of reality, sooner or later he stops worrying about his height."

"Hm. Just one thing to take care of..." Ciele mutters as she gets herself up off the ground. This muttering is quickly followed by the obvious motions of spellcasting as she concentrates, trying to bring the light of Barem to her bracers.

(Ciele uses the spell "Light". Because walking around in the dark is bad, yo.)

The wizard shields his eyes from the bright light coming from Ciele, sounding just slightly annoyed, "Right. I guess lighting up like that, you'll be on the diversion team. You," he nods to Varlak, "you have any problem with the dark? If not you're with me as well."

Hargen also has trouble seeing in the dark, though he would not reveal that to anyone present. So he needed another reason to stay with Ciele. After a second, he thought of one.

"And since I am not that stealthy, especially in armor, I will join the diversion team as well." he remarked.

"Ill manage well enough," Varlak says, as evidenced by the fact that he doesn't seem to be having any trouble picking his way through the woods, "And my talents are better suited to infiltration in any case."

"I think I'd do better on the diversion team, though the infiltration could be interesting." He thought about it a little bit, "Perhaps it would be best, though, if I help make as much of a ruckus as I can."

Adil travelled along with the group--he didn't really care to tell everyone which team he'd go on. To him, that was a waste of breath--not that it mattered. Though he could break barriers that would exist in such a camp easily, that was, to him, a waste of his talent. In his mind, he would go on the diversionary team.

The goblin pipes in. "I'll go in on the diversion team. I know my way around the camp, and I'm stealthy enough to do it without being seen. I could probably just do it myself. You all don't have to worry yourselves."

"Weren't you going to go on the infiltration team?" Dashe asked of the goblin, "Nobody else knows where Mr. Bergher's daughter is."

Dashe also looked back to Mulligan, who had been clinging to his back. "Mulligan, I think you should go on the infiltration team, too. You've got teleport prepared, right? You can use those spells that you have to help with the infiltration team more than you can on the diversion team."

Adil smirks beneath the facecloth--if nothing else, it appears to him as if that, albeit irritating, monk-slash-"arcanist" has an amusing problem with remembering things--after all, he himself could remember who was going to be on which team before they left for the camp. But the brawler appeared to have to re-decide something that was already decided on in the same manner.

(So that's Adil, Dashe, Hargen, Ciele, and probably Cerlor on the diversion team, and Mulligan, Varlak, and the goblin on the infiltration team, then?)
