Legends of Space: New Crew in the Quadrant

Unread postby Capntastic » Mon Oct 02, 2006 1:24 am

Near the edge of 'civilized' space, the Tammany Nebula colonies are the last place any decent person would want to find themselves living, as it is more a handful of small station-clusters than anything. Space immigrants from other quadrants are recieved here, and as thousands of them come through daily, there exist many facilities to process them. These facilities, run by SAI, Space-Ace Industries, are also breeding grounds for small rebellions, riots, smuggling operations, rampant acts of vandalism and graffiti, and even an occasional instance of curfew being broken. As such, SAI has grown to be a sort of police force, and therefore trains a small batch of recruits every year to keep things 'civilized'.

In a small space-station orbitting Tenement-Planet 09, this year's recruits are being led to an examination room for their finals. The long chrome hallway terminates in a big red door that swooshes open to a room with several empty desks. A uniformed man with cyber-eyes and mechanical arms (courtesy of modern science!) writes on a laser-board.

"Please be seated and begin the test as soon as you're ready. If you are caught cheating your test will be instantly failed."

These recuits would know this man to be Captain Rosko, a hero from the Great Space War. It was said that before he was nearly killed, he had the voice of an angel and could shout out the window of his ship and scare off pesky electromagnetic fluctuations- but now his vocal cords were burnt so bad they had fossilized. He commanded a ship during the battles at the Gallia Sector, and is rumoured to have warped his own ship through a star in an unorthodox tactical maneuver that cost him a good portion of his body, most of his crew, and his sanity. The upside to this being that the Kaiserian ships trailing him were not agile enough to avoid getting dragged into the star themselves. This was considered a great trade, back then. What exciting times.

Oh well, time to take the test, eh?

(OOC: As soon as all of the players post, I will respond with the test!)

A test eh? Surely this will prove to be as daunting and anything I have ever faced.

This was the first thought that entered Joeseph Ramos McPotipher's mind as soon as he realized that actually getting into the damn set up he wanted would take more than glaring menacingly at any and all officers above him until they willingly stepped down and awarded him whatever lavish award one recieved for being all intimidating. No one said anything about a test. Not that he felt that it could intimidate him, it was only a few words with spaces for check marks beside those words. It wasn't going to bite him or anything. He took his seat.

A quiet but rousing "Hmmm...." resonated out of his throat in a deep, cavernous bass as he waited patiently for the test to begin. His arms crossed over his chest as he waited, watching the facilitator in those brief seconds between Taking the Test and Angrily Resigning Ones Self to Failing the Test.

Briefly yet, he considered possibly the greatest test of all would be to take the proctor out to prove his worth. After all, he was only a robot that used to be the greatest space hero of all time. This thought was dismissed quickly.

The next to enter is the laudable Calahan. A veteran navigator who has served under several commanders on several ships, he has decided to throw his lot in with Space-Age Industries. He is very confident that the test will be a piece of vitamin-enhanced double-processed spacecake. With sprinkles. Calahan likes sprinkles.

Kaitiri entered the test room. She had made it to the Finals, now there was only one last hurtle to jump.

The former princess of the planet Sakron had once been in line to rule her world, but that seemed like a lifetime ago. Her ancestors had ruled the planet for centuries until a few years ago when the government of the nearby planet Navius suddenly attacked and drove her family out. Going from the life of a wealthy aristocrat to a dirt-poor nobody in one day had not been pleasant.

Now, though, it seemed to Kaitiri that she was on her way back up again. Though the position of a law-enforcement officer in a place like the Tammany colonies was still lowly compared to where she had been, it was a start.

For now, though, she just had to pass this test. Letting out a breath of air to clear her mind, she was ready to start.

Berzal was the next to enter the room. He hustled through the door, as the automatic doors here had the bad habit of closing on his back fins.

He then took notice of who the person in charge of the test was. See, he had been keeping up with his reading, and was quite impressed that Captain Rosko was here. They must take great interest in our results if they have him here.

Noting this, Berzal took a seat and waited for the test.

A tall, darkskinned African American strolled in next, carrying an oversized, tricked out to hell energy assault rifle. Entering the room with a confident swagger and cocky grin, both disappeared when he saw that this was a regular classroom.

"... so this ISN'T the weapons exam. Great."

Stowing his weapon at the door, he squeezed himself into a desk next to Katiri and quietly asked, "Got a pencil?"

"Yeah," Kaitiri responded.

She had just bought an entire package of pencils before the exam, so she still had six to spare. Taking one of the extras out, she handed it over.

"Hey... thanks." Nancy shot her a big, supercharming grin. "So, uh... I'm not doing anything after the exam... would you... like to go out for a smoothie afterwards?"

So I can examine those funbags a bit more? ^_^

Funbags? the telepath thought to herself. In the first moment, her aristocratic snoot brought on a flash of indignance, but there was just something about that supercharming grin...

"Sure, I could go for a smoothie," she replied.

As she spoke she took out another pencil for herself.

"Just don't keep me waiting too long," she jabbed as she waited for the exam to be handed out.
