Derrik, who had taken careful note of where all the stones were before he started, nodded to Jenni's comment. "Of course. Don't want to ruin relations with the aliens just because I'm a clutz." He investigated a little farther, just to make sure he hadn't missed anything, then shifted the stones back into place. "Well, whatever it is, it's either well hidden, or no type of technology I've ever seen before."

"Can you think of any other possible explanations?" asked Jenni shyly, reaching for a large blossom in the shape of a star, with crimson petals, using it for the center of the headpiece she was plaiting.

Sylavi seemd to hesitate a bit, slumping slightly, her eyes and antennae drooping.

> There are several, "Demons." Konner, demon of sickness, Trastia, demoness of deception. Though if I may ask, what did you mean by, "...bad gods, have?" Why not "are?" Do you,<

A certain strain could be sensed in her words,

Eduardo looked her in the eyes, simple and honest before signing a brief 'Yes.'

'We have... our own gods. Some. We do not agree on them, sometimes. Sometimes not believing.'

Sylavi was struggling inside her mind. She had thought that the gods were it, were everything, why should there be any others, but these facts were obviously in disagreement, unless....

>We have non-believers as well.<

She paused for a moment. Silently staring into the human's eyes with her own black ones.

>Do our gods, seem similar to yours?<

(OOC: Right-o. I'm giving this a few days more, then I'm bumping it up to the next location. If Captain Commando doesn't post by then, Edmund is out. I know I've said that before, but he came in... and hasn't posted since. Chr_C also has had connection problems, so I am still inclined to be a bit more lenient, but having a PC missing still makes my soul hurt, so Phillipe might be dumped later. <.<; )

Eduardo was thinking, and scratched one corner of his beard contemplatively.

'There are some— a few. Some of the gods share purposes.'

In older pagan religions, some gods with similar powers probably existed... he reflected.

'But not many.'

Derrik remained squatted near the rocks, thinking for a moment. Then he picked one up and tapped it, saying, "I suppose there could be a device within the rocks themselves... but I'd litterally have to break one appart to confirm that. I wouldn't want to do something that drastic just yet."

He carefully put the rock back. "I might be able to drill through one, though... of course, that runs the risk of damaging the whatever-it-is that I want to look at." He shook his head. "Aside from that... it's also possible that what the aliens said is true. This place may be influenced by some type of energy or pattern structure that we don't have the equipment to detect right now. But I would like to see other, more likely possibilities ruled out first."

"If whatever it is happens to be linked to what they call 'magic'..." Tanake reflected contemplatively, "Perhaps observing them do their 'spells' would help. Even if it's unrelated, at least we'd understand that form of energy better."

The captain glanced unconciously in the direction they had come, and the crashed ship could still be seen glistening faintly.

"It could be useful for getting us out of here... and if we can get it to work in other places, it'd be a gift for humanity."

She then shook her head slightly. "Except that I don't see much more we can do here, at least not at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow, when there's more light, we can try again."

Jenni glanced at Tanake, nodding. The crown was completed, and the nurse hung it loosely from one wrist as they walked back to the group.

'Captain Tanake...?'

Candice moved closer to the other woman as they walked back to the ship.

'The Bug War... what was it like?'

"...harsh. The Bugs were fond of digging tunnel systems, so a lot of battles were fought underground. So you'd have to go down yourself and shoot. Dark, and you could get lost if you weren't paying attention. Even so— for me, at last, feels more in control than space battles. Would rather be doing that than doing ship combat. Despite how dirty it can get," Tanake replied, after a moment's thought.

"Not many good things I can say about it, except that I'm glad the bloody thing's over. Seen plenty of people die or be injured. Lot of them worse than I was."

Jenni took the opportunity to slip further ahead, past the group who were eating, and upstream, where she dropped the wreath into the water, watching it float away quietly before returning.

>I see.<

Sylavi let a small smile develope on her face, her eyes closing for a moment or two. She couldn't allow this alien culture to spread could she? What if the people began to loose faith in their gods? Though these thoughts were disturbing she kept a gentle smiling mask on.

>Well could you perhaps tell me about some of the "not so similar" ones?<

Tanake was silent, although she still walked with Candice, and gave the scout another slight squeeze.

Eduardo sighed, his fingers stopping the sign-language so he could run a hand through his hair.

"I'm not a theologist," he muttered, cracking his knuckles.

Then he returned to the signing.

'Many. Different people have different ones. All depend on region of world.' Here, he spoke the words. "Christianity, Norse, Greek, Chinese, Indian, Native American.... Literally, gods, where do you start?"

Sighing again, he returned to the hand language.

'Some believe in one supreme god. He made everything and everyone else, and is good. He is balanced by an evil called Satan.' Of course, he had to speak 'Satan'.

Do these people even have the concept of absolute evil or absolute good here? he wondered.

'Many others. Gods of destruction, chaos. Birth and life. Thunder, the sky. Beauty. Love. War. Wisdom. Most shaped like us.'

Kyoko watched quietly as Eduardo 'talked' to Sylavi about the various gods and stuff. She let out a groan, she was still incredibly bored by this. She wasn't to keen on the idea of having to learn about the gods of the planet in the first place. But she had been listening to the twos discussion as best she could. She kind of just wanted to go to her room, and perhaps take a nap. Although if she did that, the captain might get upset with her. "Oro..."

Candice gave Tanake an inkling of an apologetic smile.

Giving Candice a measuring glance, she asked softly "Feel like talking more about it, or should I butt out?"

'Well, it's like this... my family has, well it's almost a tradition I suppose. My dad was in the military, mum was in the military. So was my elder brother. Dad was captain of a ship, and mum was the ship's doctor. My brother was infantry.'

The scout paused and looked ahead.

'I was really young at the time. I lost them all to the war and I barely remember them. I have a photo of them all, and I have a transmission sent by my parents, and that's the sum of my memories of them... After that I should have been looked after by my Uncle, but he died in the war too, so I was put up for foster care.'

Derrik had remained at the stone pile for a moment or two, then followed Jenni up stream, watching as she placed the wreath of flowers into the stream. He walked up behind her, not sure if she had seen him, and casually asked, "Something of significance to the flowers?"

Jenni gave a start, and looked up, face bright pink.

"Oh. Nothing. Really. It's just... it felt right, I guess. Like an offering."

She was stumbling over her words, evidently embarrassed at being found doing this.

"My grandmother used to believe in all these little fairies or gods of different things, and— I guess this reminds me of her. She'd do things like this all the time, and since I was with her a lot— habit, I guess."

Jenni looked down again, flushing as her fingers nervously intertwined.

Ryoko looked at Sylavi again, and tried to motion out with her hands. 'Yes, Bored.' She hoped she wouldn't take that as a insult though. She just didn't enjoy these kind of conversations. Thus couldn't really contribute anything since she had no real established faith.

Tanake chewed her lower lip slightly.

"...to be completely honest, I doubt it," she said quietly. "We can try though, especially since the natives here, what they call 'magic' can be adapted, but that would rely heavily on their consent and continued goodwill."
