Kaze was slouched over his table once more, glad to be home. However, the scraps of paper and half drawn schematics for magical devices and spells were now all shoved here and there, making room in the center of the table for a new collection of books on magic. Most of these dealt with water spells, and how to effectively counter them using spells of the other elements. Many paragraphs in the sections dealing with Lightning and Shadow counterspells had been underlined, and many notes had taken shape in the margins.
However, Kaze was not satisfied. If he found himself again waist deep in water, he doubted he would be able to apply any of these techniques effectively. Currently, his ferret was cradled in one arm, and he was perched on a stool, thinking about the matter intensely.

With a snort, he got up and swept them closed in a single movement, the shutters banging shut as if to emphisize his frustration at the whole situation. As he moved, his ferret jumped from his arms, rather upset by the movement, and landed on the work table, upsetting an ink pot. With a sigh, Kaze grabbed the nearest piece of expendable cloth and threw it in the path of the spreading ink.
As he did so, a new idea formed in his mind. As soon as he had the mess cleaned up, he sat down to think look at it more closely, pulling a new tome over to where he sat...
