The woman thought for a minute, idly glancing up at the sky while doing so. "Kremmich...Kremmich....Ah, yes. I think I remember hearing of you. Good to see that you're helping these travelers get used to our little corner of the Val'ri. So, how do you like it so far?" The question was sweet, even genuine sounding, as if she really wanted to know. Inverse would know that was a bit strange, expecially scince she didn't regard the group with any malace or dislike as most foreign visitors to the island saw, and this wasn't the typical 'happy face' that was put on for special events. It seemed as if this girl actually cared.

Jak lingered at the back of the group, watching the foreigners silently. No matter that he was the one currently abroad; in his eyes anyone from outside Igala was an alien (regardless of where he was himself), and thus subject to no small deal of suspicion. Perhaps, once the others had given their names, they'd forget about him. The fact that Inverse had given a false name had made him even more wary.

"It's a tad damp at the moment," Kelne remarked, bringing a raincoat out of his own pack, "But otherwise nice enough." As the question had been aimed at the 'foreigners', he'd felt that one of them ought to respond, but as far as possible, he intended to let Inverse do the talking.

The question of names was bound to come up again, and after a few moments consideration, he decided that he might as well stick with his real name. After all, there was no reason anybody in Barius should have heard of him.

Kyle flipped up the hood on his custom made coat (Ned was such a creative person!) and tugged at his sleeves a bit.

"I'm Riley" He said. False names were always fun to use in new places. It helped make you feel unattached to things. Unattached to people. Besides, something about the whole thing seemed a bit off to him.

"Riley Brodinshire; Expert Duelist." Grinning a bit, he casually stepped back to let the others speak.

Hmhmhm..I wonder where this conversation will lead.

Reako felt kind of odd with all the strange clothing he was not used to wearing, but at the very least, he didn't feel all too cold or wet. The weather mattered little however, since what apparently was a patrol of the country was now questioning the friends with him.

Not long after, another thing struck him as odd, since everyone began using fake names. Nothing bad seemed to happen, though, so Reako thought for a bit, and wanted to make a fake name as well. It seemed like a fun game, right?

"Uhm, I'm Doug Finn, I'm also here about the tournament ^_^"

Reako was rather impressed with his fake name, and thought it was kinda funny.

"I don't mind the weather all that much..."

The blue eyed woman looked at Reako, her expression changing from being the friendly welcoming commitee chairman to a look of surprise. It seemed she hadn't figured on a non-human appearing in Barius, tournament or not. She walked twards Reako and kneeled by him, looking him in the eyes with her own pair of crystal blue peepers, quickly thinking of how to word what she wanted to say- "Are you here to watch the tournament, young one?"

As the woman asked her question, Reako could feel the eyes of the older man and the one with the mask boring into him. He could tell from the older mans face that he was thinking of something snide to say about Reako, probably something pertaining to his lack of humanity. Instead, the man turned twards the others and spoke with a very thick east Barian accent- "You all haff signup, ja?"

(For those who don't know- West Barian accent- Italian. East Barian accent- Russian.)

"...I think I might get that alot, but I am here to sign up for the tournament"

Reako figured he'd probably get laughter from them, and from the mental vibes he was getting, it wasn't all too hard to tell some of the patrolmen didn't like him all that much.

"uhm, I think it'd be hard to explain until you see me there."

The womans expression changed to become even more surprised. "What's a young boy like you want to join a fighting tournament for?"

The white haired man grinned a bit, showing off slightly crooked, yet very white teeth. "Then I shall see you there, ja? The name's Giovanni Recci, I am Black Soul Knight, ja?...And Sir Kremmich, I recall seeing your name on the signups, ja?" By this time, Giovanni was already giving Inverse a rather strange look, as if he figured something was up.

Oh, wonderful. Inverse has gone and chosen the name of some semi-famous fighter... Well, I'm sure the misunderstanding can be resolved in an amicable manner.

And then Vaniyakna will step down of his own free will.

He'd just have to see how it all played out, and be ready for any eventuality.

"Some prankster must have done it as a sick sort of joke, then," Inverse suggests, trying to sound properly deferant. Internally, he wanted to push them off the cliffs and be done with it.

Giovanni gave Inverse another mean glare-"Sir, I think you're playing with me. And I should mention I don't like being played with. If you'd like, I can go confirm that it was infact Ivan Kremmich that signed up to particpate, ja?"

The man seemed incredibly suspicious of Inverse now, and Inverse would probably know it's not like a member of the Barian military to think that one of their own could be easily fooled by an immature prankster.

Beneath the shadow of his hat, Jak smirked yet again, although this quickly changed into a concerned frown. While he enjoyed seeing the merchant in such a predicament, the fact his false name was already on the list made him unseasy. He wasn't willing to believe it was simple coincidence, which meant that something was up.

"Better make myself know, to avoid suspicion."

"I am Jack Soloman, and I'll be applying for the tournament as well."

He addressed the lady, seeing as Mr Giovanni was occupied with Inverse, taking amusement that his true name, the one he'd discarded years ago for safety reasons, would serve as an efficient alias, seeing as only a handful of people knew it.

Blaze had taken in the arrival of these strangers in silence, and stood a little apart from the group, as he had been upon the arrival of the Barians.

For a moment the amusing idea of pretending to be a mute came to mind, but he decided that the likelyhood of the others catching on was too low. And, at the end of the day, there was no real reason for him to assume a false identity. Even on the outside chance that they recognised his name, he didn't see how he could be perceived as any particular threat.

'Blaze Schwartzsturm. I am here to compete. And might I point out that as Kremmich is this gentleman's surname, the chances of a relation of his having the same name are, in point of fact, high.' The warden smiled pleasantly, hoping to diffuse the situation quickly.

Giovanni looked at Blaze with that glare he had become so good at-"Is funny. I recall seeing IVAN Kremmich on list, ja? Not likly relation has exact same name, and I don't recall more then one Kremmich family living in Barius, Ja?". Giovanni turned to the masked man as if to confirm, and the masked man made his first move scince appearing- A simple shake of the head, as if to confirm that there was in fact only one Kremmich family to the govenments knowledge in Barius.

The woman looked up at Jak with a friendly smile. "It's good too meet you, Mr. Soloman. Though if you're attempting to sign up for the competition, I'd suggest you make haste. The city is bound to become a chaotic mess soon with the opening cerimony starting soon. If you wish, we could accompany you, we where on our way back ourselves when we saw you."

If Giovanni's glare was meant to intimidate Blaze, it failed. In fact, his mouth twitched as he supressed a chuckle.

So, Inverse had slipped up. Amusing, though potentially troublesome...

'Then, like my friend says, somebody must have falsely signed him up as a joke of some sort.'

Vincent Smartz was thinking he should use a psudonym, but everyone else was beating him to the punch. Oh well, might as well get it over with....

"I'm just a simple warrior interested in a little competition. If you want a name to call me by, Shade will do just fine," said the Chancellor in his calmest voice. "Besides...I think I have what it takes to bring Vaniyakna down to his knees. Now if you don't mind me asking, what is your name miss?"

Kyle's eyes darted to Vince's conversation.

What in the hell is he trying to do!?

Faking a touch of laughter and a smile, he spoke a bit louder than he normally would, hoping to get their attention.

"...That was a good one! Yeah, Shade here is a funny guy!"

He looked around a bit.

"Reminds me of my last duel. The guy I was fighting tripped over his cloak and gave up! Was all sorts of funny!"

Giovanni and the woman both shot Vince a confused and slightly shocked look, then turned to Kyle, the woman speaking first-"So...He was joking, correct?"

Giovanni crossed his arms and makes for Vince, putting a strong hand on his shoulder and whispering quietly and coldly, staring with mean eyes right into Vinces. "Around here, friend, we don't take well to jokes like that. You'd do well to remember it, ja?"

The woman turned back to Vince and gave her answer. "I'm afraid that that'll have to wait for later. At the moment, we don't have the time for me to introduce myself, scince we really should be on our way back to the city. You're welcome to join us, if you wish."

At this point, Kelne was barely refraining from sighing in despair. So far, two people had managed to arouse the Barians' suspicions, and it looked like they'd be getting an escort to the City of Storms. If they were lucky.

So much for the masters of disguise and espionage. He should have headed off on his own when he had the chance.

The blue-eyed woman looked at Kyle and smiled politely. "Well, I just thought you may like an escort. If you wish to go alone, I won't stand in your way. Come, gentlemen, we've got a report to make."

The woman stood and began off to the south, the masked man following behind her. Giovanni remaned, glaring at Inverse-"We shall see whose name is on that registration, and find out if it is indeed genuine. We'll meet again, ja?"

Giovanni then turned, making his way through the slightly falling rain to catch up with his comrads, leaving the group alone with the chilling wind.

Vince noticed he struck a sour note with these people, so he decided to play it safe.

"Yea, of course I was joking," he said with a shrug. "Everyone knows Vaniyakna is a really strong guy. I just wanna get up to him to show him my worth, you know. See if he...can measure my strength against his." And with that, he made a smirk under his scarf and leaned up against his glaive.

Now I know what gets to some of these Barians, thought Vince. Maybe I can use this to my advantage....

Inverse waited until they were a good distance away. Then he answered, "Because they were lying through their teeth. There is no Ivan Kremmich I know of. And if there is, he sure as hell wouldn't have joined the tournament. I made sure not to take the name of any fighting sort I heard of."

Inverse wasn't sure what was worse. The fact that Giovanni already suspected them, or that Vince had all but sealed it. "Thanks for backing me up, Blaze. At least someone did."

'Don't mention it - helping out is what I do, right? Now... I really think we should all get moving before anything else happens.'

And so saying he set off at a brisk pace towards the City of Storms, privately hoping that "Shade"'s stupidity would send him in the wrong direction...

Kelne nodded. He should have known Inverse wouldn't make such an elementary mistake. And now the man would have to go through the motions of participating in the tournament, instead of collecting information. He very much doubted that Giovanni would admit to a mistake. There might not be an Ivan Kremmich entered in the rolls now, but there would be by the time they got to their destination.

There was one more order of business before he set off. That of their erstwhile Master of Disguise. "If you feel the urge to speak again," he said to Vince, "Throttle it and think for a few minutes." With that, Kelne headed off after Blaze.

Honestly, how on Gaera had the man gotten to be chancellor with that sort of guile? Then again, the king was probably quite comfortable knowing if Smartz was plotting against him five minutes before Smartz himself did.

While Kelne's assessment was probably completely unfair, he tended to judge people by the worst they displayed. Vince had now been placed firmly in the 'idiots' category.

The group started off quickly enough. Walking about an hour or so through the hilly, grassy countryside, they finally reached the last hill. As they descended to the foot of the small hill, they found themselves looking across a great plain. Wind blew through the tall grass, making it sway wildly. Far in the distance, a city rose from the uniform flatness of the feild. Above it hung a dark, almost black cluster of clouds, and heavy rain could be seen falling, even from the distance. On foot, it would take at the very least a few hours to get there, and the faster they moved, the better.

And move fast they did. The evenness of the plains was helpful in that respect. The rain began quickly picking up as the outskirts of the city became visable- Groups of small, clustered houses with a very small number of people walking, not running, between them. It seems the people have gotten used to the constant rain over time, not letting it bother them at all. A couple members of the party got a good look at a couple of the citizens- ranging from 5 feet or so to about 6'4 in the tallest of the people they saw, clad in what appeared to be casual clothing, only with leather sewn onto it. Although the clothing may look a bit odd to the travelers, Inverse would know it's the style here in Barius- Even young children wore slightly protective clothing of some sort. Inverse also knew they had entered the area of the Eternal Storm- It was now pouring rain, and lightning danced in the sky, flashing down every now and then, usually hitting a lightning rod.

As they worked their way into the city, the houses began getting bigger, and a few shops of various kinds could be seen- Quite a few weapons shops, some shops for various magic supplies, a general store or two, even a cafe. Through the street walked men clad in gray and dark blue uniforms- Army troops serving to police the city. The group passed a rather large looking bar and inn- The Storms Eye, and it seemed relatively calm, expecially by Barian standards- Not even a brawl happening- yet. Further down the main road, two sights could be seen- The first was the woman from before conversing with Giovanni outside a large building Inverse recognises as an army office. On the wall is a large, rain beatten banner reading "Registration"- If anyone wanted to sign up, they'd have to go to that building there. Luckily for them, Giovanni ended his conversation and began walking away from the group. Anyone bothering to watch him would see that he was headed for a rather large building, presumably the castle, at the end of the main road. The castle itself was dark, contrasting strangely with the lights coming from the windows. The sky flashed above the castle most often- The lightning hitting what appeared to be a large spike coming from atop the castle.

And there they stood- The rain beating down on them, the sound of the patrons within The Storms Eye conversing happily, the woman from before entering the registration building, and life as usual in the City of Storms going on about them.

It was an impressive place, in a wet, thundery kind of way, Kelne reflected as he took in the scene. "Might as well get the registration sorted first, then find a room," he remarked, heading for the registration building. It seemed Blaze had a similar idea, he noted, following him in.

Kumiko looked towards the registration building, and pondered. Entering a tournament was too crude and barbaric for her...no, there were other things she could do, and it seemed their little friends felt that she wasn't enough of a threat to force into the tournament. Searching out weaknesses in Vaniyakna's security, finding potential allies, among the various activities she could engage in while the others kept the ever friendly dictator occupied.

Either way, that didn't keep her from entering the registration office. It seemed that Inverse was playing ringleader, and she had to inform him of her plans, and she couldn't exactly write anything out while sitting in the rain. With that thought in mind, she followed Blaze and Kelne into the building.
