"Well, someone certainly doesn't like visitors," Jeff muttered, already soaked through. This dracolich character was going to pay for this...

"Might as well get moving," he said, gathering up his possessions.

GUARDS!!!

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Thu Feb 27, 2003 11:31 pm

Damon hesitated for a moment, then he followed the group quickly as well.

It was still raining heavily when, half an hour later, they came across the huge front gate of a large stone building. The gate was a heavy wooden door, with metal built into it to make the door more sturdy. The hinges were made of iron, clearly rusty to a slight extent from exposure to the elements outside. However, there seemed to be no overhang that was sheltered from the rain.

Nevertheless, the group somehow knew this was the tower they had been seeking. They hadn't stepped closer than 30 feet from the door when two winged figures swooped down in front of them.

The winged figures were a strange sight. They looked humanoid, but their faces and fur suggested initially that they were hyena-men. That was not the case, however, because of their feathered wings and the talons on their hands and fingers. Even stranger, they were barefoot, with oddly-jointed toes.

A quick look at them indicated they were guards of some sort. Their arrow quivers hung by single straps around their shoulders, over their loose clothing.

One of these figures said, in a bold voice, "You may not pass."

Damon looked at Elijah for a moment. Finally he whispered, "I'm thinking we do something different. We try to talk these guys into letting us through."

He hesitated and whispered again, "If that doesn't work I suggest busting through."

Surprisingly, the winged figures, known as marrashi, didn't hear this.

(OOC: Also, the singular term for 'marrashi' is 'marrash', just in case you want to use it in a post. Not like the characters know or anything. Heck, even Damon doesn't know what the name of these things are.)

"And may I ask why we are denied passage before you know who we are?"

The guard who had not already spoken answered Walter's question.

"This is the property of the dark lord. He has asked that we do not allow strangers inside."

"Dark lord, schmark lord," Damon responded. "I came here on important business, and the inhabitant of this tower says he needs me here at once. Now move."

"You have been mistaken, demonhalf," the first guard spoke. "Master does not want any visitors. You still cannot pass."

Damon would have seemed incredibly angry right now to those who were watching him carefully.

And combat now starts.

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Fri Feb 28, 2003 10:45 pm

"Our names are of no concern to you, mortal," the second marrash said to Jeff. "We are demons, and the name of a demon means nothing to a lesser being like you."

It was still raining heavily where the group was. The first marrash looked at Layne quite curiously. But the mage's words failed to sway the demon to let them by. "You understand that Master doesn't like to watch bloody battles, don't you? Because his pleasure comes from reading and plotting, not from watching bloodshed. Now GO."

Damon, however, had reached his limit of restrained anger. He drew out his staff, twisting it very hard to expose a spear point at the end closer to his head.

The guards knew what this meant. And unfortunately, they had their weapons ready within little time. They pulled large bows from the position between their wings that had carried them. Then their wings opened, and they started to fly upward... but due to the torrential rain, the marrash knew they'd have to fly somewhat low to keep their balance at all.

(Combat starts now. Order of initiative is:
-Damon
-Jeff
-Marrash B (the second one)
-Elijah
-Marrash A (the first one)
-Layne
-Walter

The rainstorm is going to impose a -2 penalty to AT, PA, and balance-related checks for this battle, since it hinders vision for all involved. Just a note.)

Damon, however, was quick to react. Sensing the marrashi's slowness, he lunged out at the stomach of the one closer to him. However, this one had already taken flight. He twisted his body to the side and his abdomen withdrew somewhat, and the spear point barely missed him - any closer and it would have been very painful for the demon.

(Jeff's turn.)

Unfortunately for Jeff, when he sent the shards flying at the marrash, his sight of the demon had been hindered by the falling rain, and his shards went wide. Very far off his intended target, in fact.

(Spell resisted. Jeff has 71/75 MP.)

The marrash seemed undaunted by Jeff's ice-flinging. Putting his bow skills to use now, he drew out an arrow, pulled back the string, and aimed it at Damon before letting go.

The arrow caught in the demonhalf's shoulder, blood quickly staining his robe and bringing on a new level of anger.

(Damon suffers 26 damage. Elijah's turn.)

Elijah dashed towards the Marrash Damon had attempted to hit, and leaped into the air, hoping to either tackle it if he could get enough lift, or at least grab its leg and try to pull it down to the ground with the extra weight.

(OOC: Got it, Kelne.)

Elijah's leap fully surprised the marrash. Apparently, the demon hadn't seen such a giant leap before! Regardless, Elijah was easily able to grab the marrash near the arms and slam him down to the ground very easily.

(Due to the force that the marrash is slammed down by, he takes 22 damage.)

The marrash had been utterly surprised. Elijah was pinning him down with his weight, and the demon hadn't the strength to move him... but he did have his teeth.

The marrash lunged up with a bite. Or tried to, at least, as Elijah simply forced his shoulders down to the ground again.

(Layne's turn. Walter may also take his action, as he is next.)

Walter takes off his coat revealing huge angel like wings. The blood flowing from Damon's wound sent magic into Walter's body. He had been afraid of this. He set about deeping his thoughts. Clearing his mind and entering the Astral Plane. His eyes shot open and Marrash A was in veiw. Anyone who had bothered to looked would have seen Walters eyes blood red. He muttered some ancient words. He started to unweave the Marrash A's body from the Astral Plane.

[Walter casts Rip on Marrash A.]

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">I tried to warn them...

Layne thought back to Elemental Affinity class. Instructor Wohs was droning on about the proper technique in determining the elemental affinity for an unknown creature. Everyone else in class was asleep. Some said Wohs preferred it that way.

Luckily enough for Layne, though, he stayed awake and even got the only A in the class.

He had seen that Jeff's ice spell didn't work. Ice was in opposition to fire, of course, so, according to boring ol' Wohs, the correct approach was...

"FIRE!"

Massive battle post.

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Mon Mar 03, 2003 10:30 pm

(OOC: Got it, Kelne. Also, Geoc, the OOC stuff is written a bit funny and unclear, so I'm going to assume you cast Rip on Marrash A.)

Layne's spell worked well on the marrash, singing its flesh and nearly setting fire to its wings. The demon looked angry at Layne, definitely preparing harm for him. Meanwhile, Walter had gotten a grip on the other marrash's aura, and was just about to begin unravelling it when the demon's aura snapped back - a bit painfully for the demon, but Walter knew that if he had done just a little better, he would've been mroe successful in his unweaving.

(Layne deals 20 damage. Walter JUST BARELY fails to beat the defense roll, so he dealt half damage, which came out to be 12 points.)

Damon was now angry at the marrash Layne had attacked for shooting him with an arrow earlier. Calling up his anger and what he knew about demons, he lashed out with his shikomi-zue at the beast, plunging the spear into its stomach before it could react. When he ripped out the shikomi-zue, some of the marrash's flesh came with it.

Jeff, noting the failure of his ice spell, and seeing how Layne was successful with his fire magic, recalled his experiences with fire magic. Deciding to try his own spell, he flung a tiny sphere of flame at the demon he had tried to attack earlier - but he was frustrated when the demon simply lifted its feet and allowed the mini-fireball to pass under him.

The marrash then pulled out another arrow of his. Pulling back the string, he aimed for the chest of the mage that had actually singed him. And the arrow plunged right through the right side of Layne's chest. Layne knew he was lucky to be standing after that shot, since he was incredibly injured.

(Damon deals 44 damage, and Marrash B's AC is reduced by 1. Jeff's spell is resisted. Layne suffers 59 damage, bringing him down to 1/60 HP, and he suffers a penalty of -4 to actions until healed.)

(Elijah's turn.)

Elijah, taking advantage of the fact the marrash was pinned down, stung the creature hard in the chest, his poison quickly taking effect. The marrash tried to lunge up and bite Elijah, but to no avail, as Elijah swiftly moved himself just enough that he could get out of its way, but not enough to loosen his grip.

(Elijah deals 12 direct damage and 9 poison damage.

Layne's turn.)

Well, THIS will be good for Layne's mental health...

Unread postby KingOfDoma » Tue Mar 04, 2003 10:30 pm

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">"ShewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwSUNKT!"

That was the sound it made. He could hear it coming from at least 10 metres away. But he could do nothing. He didn't have the speed to dodge. He barely even had the strength to stand, to stay awake.

He was on the brink of death.

He could feel it in his chest. It stuck in the flesh of his back, tore at his lung, and pushed on his rib. To even think of touching it drove his nerves mad, screaming at the brain of the agony being experienced.

I don't wanna do this anymore, was the first reaction that came to his mind. It hurt too much, it hurt too much, it hurt too much. Sniffles came, just after the tears. Layne collapsed, thoughts of his parents at the forefront of his mind.

His parents...

They had been so supportive of him all through his schooling, and they had never seen him quit.

Would they soon, at his funeral?

no... he thought. No, I won't let them down... even if I die, I won't let them down...

Even if it was his last act, Layne was going to go out like a hero.

He pointed his staff at the marrash that shot this arrow, this alterer of life ... and smirked.

(Fire 2.)</span>

Layne's desperate fire spell worked to his advantage, singing the marrash that had shot him in the chest, and leaving charred flesh where part of its body used to be.

What was clear was that the marrash couldn't take too much more abuse. The only question was, would all of them survive?

(Layne deals 35 damage.

Walter's turn.)

Walter's spell gave Layne new hope, as it began to repair the damage done to his body. Layne still was hurting, but at least he wasn't struggling to survive.

(Layne regains 10 HP, putting him at 11/60, and Walter is at 56/80 MP. Layne's penalty is reduced to -2.)

Meanwhile, Damon glared vengeance at the marrash that had shot Layne. He leaped into the air, drawing back his shikomi-zue for a stab through the demon... and he barely hit, not able to pull flesh out this time, but still successful.

Jeff, seeing the demon was near death, and being frustrated at his previous inability to harm it, remembered the one element he hadn't tried yet - lightning. Charging up a tiny bolt of electricity, he sent it in the marrash's direction, but the bolt seemed to be useless - and Jeff grew even more frustrated.

As for the marrash, well, he was at his point of desperation as well. He drew out his one black arrow, aimed it at Walter, and let it fly towards him. As the arrow struck him in the chest, a sort of demonic influence tried to weaken Walter's very being. However, the angel was too strong for the demon, fighting it off very well. The injury, however, was still there.

(Damon deals 10 damage. Jeff's spell is resisted against - again. Walter suffers 26 damage, but resists the secondary effects of a taklif arrow. He is at 29/55 HP.

Elijah's turn.)

Elijah was easily able to sting the marrash, being on top of him where it couldn't really get out of the way. The demon tried to lunge up again, but still to no avail, as Elijah was simply too strong for it.

Meanwhile, the same marrash's exposed skin seemed to turn more pale, a strange (to the marrash, anyway) effect of the weakness the poison was inflicting on his body.

(Elijah deals 22 damage, and the marrash takes 7 poison damage.

Layne's turn, then Walter's.)

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">Layne's breathing was a little less labored. His eyes had a few less spots in front of them. And he was thinking a little more clearly.

Unfortunately for Layne, his attempt to ignite the marrash met with failure, as the beast still had a lot of willpower left.

By mistake, Layne had also caught Elijah in the flame bath. Fortunately, he too was strong-willed, coming out unharmed.

Layne felt himself becoming a bit less weary once again, as the spell Walter had cast earlier was still helping him.

(spell resisted. Elijah also resists (I rolled one for him because he was pinning the marrash.) Layne gains 12 HP from the Regen from earlier, putting him at 23/60, and eliminating his penalty.

Walter put a hand on his wound, 'no more blood...' He thought as his hand pulled back showing blood his own blood. He took his staff in both hands. He held it up to the sky and spread his wings, imagining a circle around Layne, producing a magical barrior.

(casts Shell on Layne)

Divinegon2130

Ouch....

Unread postby Divinegon2130 » Thu Mar 06, 2003 5:54 pm

Walter's shielding spell wrapped itself easily around Layne, providing him a barrier against physical blows.

(Walter is on 48/80 MP.)

Damon still wasn't done yet. Flinging himself once again at the still-airborne marrash, he whipped his spear in a slash aimed for his stomach, and succeeded, new blood coming out. The marrash was getting still weaker.

(Damon deals 14 damage.)

Jeff, frustrated that his magic didn't work, thought back to his pranks. Maybe some of his more light-hearted pranks could be put to good use this time - and granted, these things seemed not to like them. He quickly brought out a small packet of itching powder, and despite the rain hindering his sight, he threw it with devastating accuracy at the marrash still flying. And it impacted near the marrash's face, sprinkling the itching powder all over the demon.

(Marrash B suffers a -4/-4 AT/PA penalty for 3 rounds.)

The marrash landed, looked aggravated by this. The itching was starting to torment him. Nevertheless, he found it within himself to grab one of his arrows and aim it at the prankster. As he drew back, the arrow turned an insidious green. He let the arrow fly.

The fact that it struck Jeff in the chest wasn't the big problem. The real problem was that the arrow was diseased. And the disease took a great toll on Jeff, far greater than even the marrash could have imagined. While Jeff stumbled to the ground, too physically weak to stand, the marrash went ahead and started scratching his nose, one of the spots that the itching powder had covered.

(Jeff suffers 24 damage, and, due to a critical hit from the magic portion of the arrow, he is at -4 STR and -4 AGI for.... 14 rounds. Ouch. Probably too weak to continue fighting. He is at 31/55 HP, though.

Elijah's turn.)

Unread postby Dark Xia » Thu Mar 06, 2003 7:16 pm

Elijah too absorbed in his current need to kill ignored the other happenings, if he turned his attention it would do nothing to help the situation, "I was thinking about offering a surrender... but I doubt you would be honorable. Die already!" Elijah's tail, already dripping with blood, descended upon the Marrish again, another thrust.

Re: Torn

The marrash found the strength within him to move his arm just slightly. This slight movement, in fact, worked to his advantage, as the stinger hit the ground rather than demon flesh.

This strength stayed in him as he tried to bite Elijah's now-vulnerable stinger. However, Elijah was simply too quick, bringing it out of the way just in time.

(Marrash A suffers 8 poison damage. Layne's turn.)
