Though snickering a bit at first at her own mental image of the idea, she falls off when she catches sight of another student behind the girl and her dog. She doesn't yet make any sort of move of acknowledgement, though, glancing away as she meets his eyes and doing her best to keep Hope from taking notice herself.

"...what about the others though, all the people that came through here? There...um...there aren't a lot of places to hide a giant dog that fast..."

Karif turned his head to look at Lucja like somehow, an additional head had sprouted. Narrowing his brows, the taller boy leant forwards, and looked around at the group, without even gesturing - just making a theatrical show of where his eyes fell. The message was probably relatively clear - Around here, you think hiding a dog would be weird?

Bluebird kept her eyes averted, standing upright. All smooth motions, with no wasted movement. There is a lot of imperfection in the way a normal human being moves, all of this emulated by her OS. All of this disabled in emergency situations. Such as the appearance of some kind of hellhound.

"If these two are not the cause of this lockdown, nor a threat to us. I would suggest we move on at once, mm? At the very least I need to swap bodies. My room is this way, which happens to be where the lockdown presumably began. Safe to say, the source of our curiosity would be in the same direction." With that, Astella turned right at the T section, the opposite direction of Dhoo.

"Coming?" She could trod off on her own but.. she lingered. Safety in numbers, right?

Lucja doesn't even notice Karif's reaction herself, too focused on the two ahead of them (and the one beyond them). When Bluebird speaks up, though, and starts off, that draws her attention, and after barely a moment she darts off with a nod. "Yeah, you're...yeah." She looks back to Hope with an awkward smile, waving as she follows after Bluebird. "It was...nice to meet you, but...um...we've got more looking around to do! Maybe we'll...er...see you around school?"

"Yes! Let's go!" Jeremy whines. It's almost like Hope and Dhoo scare him! He turns and quickly follows, and surpasses, Bluebird with only a quick glance back. With his attention on the creepy pair, he manages to miss Alan entirely.

When Drow catches up to the now departing group, he isn't paying his fellow students much mind -- he's reverse-navigating the path taken by the injured kid and his carriers by smell more than vision, hugging the wall, eyeing the floor, sniffing, and hunched over in a prowl with an unconscious grin on his face as his symbiote's eagerness exceeds his own. His eyes pan over the group as if impatiently trying to look around and between them, but it's Dhoo who really gets his attention first. Enough that he pushes away from the wall and drops into a kneeling slide right across the floor and to a stop directly in front of the dog, staring it right in the face with his silver eyes wide, reflecting the dim red glow of the hound's.

"Fancy meeting you here..." he murmurs in a scratchy voice, then springs back to his feet, looking to Hope. Without the scratchiness, and with a note of confusion, he offers her an uncertain, "I'm...I'm sorry...?" then whirls around and strides quickly after the other students as if whatever creeps them out about the girl and her hound just took a while getting through to him. Keeping as much distance from Lucja and Jeremy as the walls of the corridor allow, he sniffs at the air for the scent of blood in the hopes of picking the trail back up. He asks aloud to no one in particular, "Did you see the guy that got fucked up by Riot?"

As the others begin to leave, Hope narrows her eyes as Dhoo almost seems to 'hmph'. The pair begin walking away, Hope's image blurring for a moment, before shifting to a smokey-brown colored long coat. "Disgusting." She says, her voice taking on an ethereal quality as the pair seem to disappear into fog that's not even there.

Longshot blinks, pointing to where the dog was, then to Alan, then quickly scurrying to catch up with the others. "Okay, whot th' bloody 'eck was THOT?"

Lucja looks back as Alan speaks up; not having noticed any of his strangeness with the pair, Longshot's comment seems a little out of nowhere, so she just ignores it for now. She shudders a little, though, as she thinks back on the guy they saw rushed through the hallway earlier. "We...um...we saw a guard get wheeled by with a bunch of others, but he wasn't a student. Who's Riot, though? Is that...is he why there's all this lockdown stuff?"

Drow pivoted all the way around on one heel to suggest to Longshot, "Have you ever heard of a spooky black hound with red eyes being a good omen?" Back facing the direction he was headed, he stops to listen to Lucja without looking towards her, then responds. "Overheard a couple of the staff calling it 'the worst case of Riot there's been in years', so I thought it was a what, not a who, something in the air, but they weren't taking those kind of precautions in the infirmary, so then I was thinking maybe some kind of alien parasite taking our brains over. But then someone there said the kid was part of something called 'Riot Shield', that this happened because they were trying to take some other kid down, so now I'm working on the assumption of rage zombies."

All of Drow's words went in one of Panoram's ears and out the other. The way his mouth was gaping, they were probably going in his mouth too.

Mouths can't hear.

"What are you?" Jeremy asked rudely as he stared at Drow. First it was beat up student soldiers, then a big black dog with its creepy girl, and now a vaguely demonic looking kid appearing out of nowhere.

Nobody said the school would be uneventful.

Lucja gives Drow an odd look, about to reply before Jeremy speaks up. "What do you mean what is he? He's just another-"

With a tiny wince, Lucja frowns as she looks back to Drow. "Agh, I just realized that we never even asked what your name was, or even introduced ourselves! I'm Pryzmat, and this is Bluebird, Panoram, Brigand, Longshot, and...uh..."

She pauses as she looks to Karif, thinking for a bit before continuing. "Well, he told us his name, but I don't want to spread it if he doesn't want, and he didn't say his code name yet."

Drow sized up Karif while Jeremy and Lucja asked their questions, for the sake of looking at someone that didn't trigger that bizarre urge he suspected would be a lot harder to resist with his other at the surface. The warning prickle he'd felt when he noticed them in the group of loose students was a lot stronger than the weird buzz he'd noticed a bit before the hate swept over him in the cafeteria. If we get infected we should probably put the big one down first, he mused on an unrelated note, featureless silver irises reaching Karif's face as he flashed a crooked, unconscious smile.

He looked away to respond, focusing his attention on Bluebird, the furthest up the corridor of the group. Though as he hadn't looked to see who was indicated with each of the names, he didn't have a clue which name went with which student besides Pryzmat. "Drow." His tongue trilled faintly under the softly voiced D, making it sound a little closer to "ttrow".

"Hey!" A voice calls from the way the group came from. A couple staff are approaching rapidly! "You kids aren't supposed to be here!"

"Uh oh." Brigand says from the shadows. "You guys might wanna get lost."

"...y...hey!" Prizmat glances around for Brigand, her voice lowered to a near hiss. "Cheater!"

Scowling, she starts looking all over for an escape route, but doesn't hold out much hope; their costumes make them stand out pretty well, after all. Still, for just a moment she considers darting off and away from the group, waiting just long enough to see if the others are going too; she's not going to leave someone to get in trouble by themselves!

A brief moment passed wherein Jeremy was gripped by indecision. He stood frozen, an unhappy and somewhat fearful expression clear on his face as he looked down the hallway at the staff. It didn't last long.

He caught up to Lucja without looking back, apparently not caring so much if he left someone behind. Where he was running to, not even he seemed to know.

Bluebird was quick to make her decision; clearly they hadn't been identified yet.

She stood upright, pivoting on her heel to sprint after Lucja and Jeremy, movements all perfect form and function.

"This way, third door on the left. Follow." She quickly said, patting each on the shoulder as she strode by. Surely the others would be caught up in their wake and follow. She was leading them back to her temporary quarters, of course. So long as they moved quickly enough to keep out of sight from the faculty, there would be no telling which room they ducked into.

Furthermore, she could always stuff the other students into the various shipping crates her other bodies were packed in.

The group scrambles off as the officials approach, intent on probably dragging them to the Headmaster's office. As they move away, they find ample opportunity to get away: A four way intersection of halls, thus three ways to go to get away from two teachers. The decision is easy enough: Split up.

Although there are likely more questions to be discussed at this point, it's highly likely the group will convene again another time.

And thus begins the first day of the first year at Kirby Academy.

Chapter 2: Haunting in the Underhalls

The eventful day draws to a close, with school beginning proper tomorrow. Dorms are still not sorted out due to a 'technical issue', though it's easy enough to figure out that the Riot problem- Whatever that may be- Is what really slowed the process down. Students are allowed to temp bunk with whomever they want, so long as it's not coed. Or co-species. Given that the rooms are for the most part standard issue, it shouldn't be too much trouble to get settled. Students are free to spend the evening how they'd like, with the promise that eventually The Commons will be opened up to them. For the immediate time, they have normal stuff--Access to outdoor and indoor fields, a pool, temporary rooms set up to watch television and movies, games...

But, eventually things begin to wind down for many. Though a good number of students have no need to sleep and continue to kill time through the night, for most the allure of rest gets the better of them and they find their way to their rooms. For many, it may still be a new experience being in school dormatories...But really, at a super hero school, what could happen?

(Feel free to decide where you are right around midnight, the day before classes. Also work out among yourselves who is bunking with who, unless you want an NPC. In which case, you are free to pick an existing one, or MAKE UP YOUR OWN SEE IF I CARE.)

Despite being in his room, and despite being in bed, Jeremy couldn't sleep. His nerves were getting the best of him. The focus of his distress was set on rotation in his mind. The excitement of escaping the staff earlier (though Jeremy was convinced they knew who he was, and that the staff was merely biding its time), being in a new school, being in a new dimension, and his certainty that, here too, he wouldn't fit in; each had their turn to release cortisol and adrenaline into his system. His father would have told him that his worrying only caused more worrying.

A shuffling sound came from the bed on the other side of the room, causing Jeremy to tense up. His roommate, for the moment, turned on his side and murmured something in his sleep. Jeremy hadn't gotten his name. He hadn't had the courage or inclination to say anything to the short, red-headed boy. The roommate hadn't seemed strongly inclined to say anything himself. Another awkward type, which really made it so much easier for Jeremy. It seemed that their reluctance to approach other students was the only factor needed for either to share the room for the night. The roommate thankfully looked normal too. For the brief window of time during which they were both in the same room and conscious they avoided eye contact as politely as possible. Jeremy knew his father would have urged him to use the opportunity to make friends, but it was one missed opportunity he could live with.

It became clear to Jeremy that he wasn't going to sleep anytime soon. Quietly, Panoram slipped off his sheets, slid out of bed and made his way to the door. There was a brief pause in which he looked at the school uniform he had worn earlier, but it seemed unnecessary. Pajamas would do. Jeremy tried to shrug off the disapproval he imagined would come from his father for sneaking out. So, Panoram crept into the hallway and, upon closing the door as noiselessly as possible, began wandering the hallways where he knew he was allowed while pausing in the recreation areas which were open to quietly watch other students.

Much like Jeremy, Lucja's too jazzed up by the events of the day to sleep, already having had more firsts in a single day than she's had...well, since she was probably like 3 or something! Unlike Jeremy, though, Lucja was off almost as soon as she finished dinner, eager to explore every bit of this school. She even invited her temporary roommate along - she could turn into fire! - but she wasn't interested; her loss!

An hour at the pool, an hour in one of the lounges chatting with others (someone could make literal shadow puppets?!), more than a couple hours getting shooed out of one place or another. And hey, there's Panoram!

She waves to him with a broad grin, keeping her voice low thanks to the time, but no less excited. "Hey! Still curious too, huh? I've been going around for hours; it's like this place goes on forever! Can't see most of it yet, though."

For a moment, Panoram gave her a vacant gaze. One would think he didn't even know her. Fortunately, it passed quickly.

"Curious? I guess.. no. I can't sleep, so like I'm wandering around and.. okay, I guess I'm a little curious." He gives a weak smile before continuing, "Find anything cool?"

"Good morning, Bluebird."

Her father's voice. Every time she would reboot her systems. It was a pleasant reminder of home, even for how little time she has been away - she knew full well it would be some time before she went back; and after last night's events and the very realization this school could be just as dangerous as rumor stated - it was IF she went back.

Still! Little time for worry and homesickness, she had work to do and a campus to sweep. Opening the shutters that pretend to be eyelids, Astella had a quick take of her small room. Already in a temporary setup, she was spared a roomate for the time being. A small mountain of boxes, all amidst a tangle of thick cables providing power to her charging station. It was like sleep, but only took an hour or two. Fatigue replaced with a small blinking red "Low Power" notice in the corner of vision when the time came. She almost missed fatigue. Almost. Certainly missed actual sleep. Standby Mode was dreamless, with no concept of the passage of time.

She took one heavy step out of the charging station; the gel-like pads on the bottom of her boots muffling the worst of what would otherwise be loud crashing footfalls. The combat chassis needs a reduced weight load.

Her current body was certainly robotic in nature; no attempts to visually emulate a normal young woman - instead looking like something out of a Sci-Fi film or cartoon. Armor plating, large rounded shoulderplates, tracks of energy indicators and lights. The whole package. Though her head, still went unchanged. Almost seemed out of place.

"Won't catch me off guard again." Astella re-assured herself, as she wandered outside for a midnight patrol. Scanner working feverishly to locate everything of import: Spikes in power, surveillance equipment, anomalies with a need for explanation, anything she could find. This path led her past the Rec room, where she lingered in the doorway before spotting two familiar faces.

"Good evening." She gave a small smile, and deep down really hoped they wouldn't call attention to her chassis.

Unfortunately for Bluebird, Jeremy had trouble keeping his thoughts to himself at times. He turned, did a quick double-take at Bluebird, Jeremy's eyes going from chassis to face and back again, and gaped.

"Oh my god, is this, like, your battle armor or something? ..Are you going to fight someone?"

He didn't seem too excited about the idea out of an unrealistic concern that the target would be him. Jeremy's logical mind knew that, of course, but his logical mind was rarely in full control where unexpected questions were concerned.

Damnit.

"It's just a precaution. I'm doing a little exploration, and I wouldn't want to be caught in a hostile situation wearing my civilian body.. okay?" She kept her cool, or rather seemed to. Answering quickly and concisely, her body unwavering and stoic.

Even if she was doing a little internal screaming at how silly she might look right now.

Note to self.. make the combat chassis.. cooler.

Looking over her shoulder at Jeremy's comment, Lucja openly gapes at Bluebird's new look, taking a few moments before coming up with words. Way too many once her mouth finally catches up to her mind.

"No it's okay, it just...doesn't seem like you! Er...well...no, I guess we've only known you for like a day, and you're...no, it kinda makes sense. It's just so...different!

"...so you've got a bunch of whole different bodies too? You said the different parts, but I thought you'd just have, like...different arms or legs or stuff. Like a laser arm, or rocket boots, or that kinda stuff! Not like a whole different body...what other bodies do you have?

"...and how come you don't have a helmet? That looks like a helmet kinda body."

An internal sigh, though no sign given outwardly, Astella replies, "Because transporting a brain is dangerous. I can't swap my head around as easily as the rest of me, so it remains static. You can't tell from the outside, but I may as well be wearing a helmet. This thing is nigh impervious." She nodded sagely, "And I happen to have a laser-arm."

>Prime Photonic Cannon
>Charging ... 5%

Bluebird lifted her left arm, splaying her fingers out as wide as they would appear to go. The center of her palm a kind of iris of shimmering blue which began to glow with tiny dancing lights; in tiny circular patterns they spun faster and faster amidst a horribly cliche charging up noise.

>Disable Weaponry
>Charge Aborted

She snapped her fingers shut, and the sound cut off just as quickly. "See? That's just a minor form, too. It can pack quite a bit more oomph if I actually allow the arm to unfold. Think of it as a sidearm. Arm." She smirked a little, "What has you two up at this hour, anyway? Still excited from our earlier trek?"

Lucja stares at Bluebird's hand, a few moments before she realizes she was just asked a question. "...oh! Uh...well, yeah! I wanted to see what all there was here, and so I thought I'd just start looking around. This place is huge! Have you seen how huge it is yet? It's like it goes on forever! But I guess with how weird this place is maybe it does?

"Y'know, maybe I'd be able t'help wit' that!"

A certain grey-suited, silver haired, be-jacketed student saunters down the hall, the stupidest of grins plastered on her face. "Y'wouldn't even haveta pay me're nothin'. shouldn't th' little babbys be in beddybye about now?" She asks, tilting her head forward, giving Bluebird a glance over her visor.

"The same can said for you."

And here's Abrams, walking down the hall, her pace quick, her back straight, and her expression as cold as her voice. Her focus is mostly on Charcoal, though her face softens a bit as she glances at the rest of the students.

"That said, there's no officially mandated bed time, here. But if you all want to sleep through your morning classes, well, it's your GPA that's going to go in the dumps, not mine."

Bluebird tilted her head, "We could do some controlled testing.." She replied before Charcoal wandered up and started talking.

Thankfully, Astella didn't have to say word one before someone else had intervened! Abrams herself! Which set the cyborg smiling, "Good evening, Ms. Abrams. I can't speak for the others, but I've already completed my recharge. I thought I would take in the lay of the land, so to speak."

She didn't mention her plans on identifying every minor piece of security she could scan for. Best left unsaid to teacher-folk.

Lucja's about to respond excitedly to Bluebird's offer when Charcoal comes up; she only has time for a grimace before Abrams appears, though, and she grins to her, a bit abashed, but too excited to feel too bad about being "caught".

"Oh...um...well...this place's so cool, I wanted to see all the rest of the stuff here! I won't do it too much, promise, but...well, this place is better than sleeping! It's huge, and there's so much different stuff, and...but I won't be up too late! I'll be awake for class tomorrow!"

"It'll just the first day.. They probably won't even grade us on anything," Jeremy murmured, mostly to himself, while bashfully trying to avoid looking at anything in particular. He was beginning to regret leaving his room. With his arms crossed across his chest, Jeremy glanced over each of the group before looking off and pretending to be interested in nothing apparent down a hallway.

When the adults had shown up and scattered the curious bunch who had evaded lockdown earlier, Alan had turned his already barely gripped wheel right over to his Drow side, slipped behind one of the others and used them for cover as he camouflaged against the wall of the hallway. So he'd spent the rest of the afternoon and night, slinking through the halls of the Academy trying to learn anything more about the apparent cover-up, with little success, and digging himself ever deeper into the realm of the absurd with his evolving conspiracy theories.

He'd had to reassert control as much as he could when he found himself inadvertently stalking the two people he least wanted to be around with Drow on the outside, but keeping masked and not actually having to interact with them seemed to quiet the brooding desire to harm them. With the symbiote at the surface, he was starting to understand its crude reasoning. Somehow, they could hurt it, badly, and it possessed an instinctual awareness of this none of the others had triggered. Alan was half-sure if he could personally focus on the fact that they didn't show any desire to actually do so, then his Drow side could keep its more extreme urges of self-preservation in check.

When the head of one of the girls Pryzmat had tried to introduce earlier showed up atop an awesome robot body with a cannon arm, he smiled widely to himself and felt as if a weight had been eased off his shoulders. Finally, someone who's taking this seriously! He was about to decloak when he spotted the gym teacher approaching, and chose to remain still a mite longer, watching her warily for signs of...infection, possession, whatever Riot did. It always started with the gym teacher.

He'd seen The Faculty.

Charcoal quickly grabs Jeremy up into what starts off as a jovial arm around the shoulder before quickly leveling up and evolving into a full on headlock. "Yeah, Dorkus's got it. It's just th' first day, just th' stupid rules and shedyule an' who gives a dump!"

She doesn't seem at all inclined to release Jeremy from the headlock.

Lucja glares a tiny bit from behind Charcoal, subtly conjuring a BB-sized light ball and flicking it at the back of her head; all hopefully out of sight of Abrams.

She quickly glances back to Abrams after, again smiling cheerfully. "But we won't stay out super-late, promise!"

It's just a few moments before she realizes a chance to find out a bit more about Riot (and maybe turn attention away from them), and hopefully without giving away their earlier sneaking around too! "...oh, um...what was all that stuff that was going on this morning, Ms. Abrams? What was all the lockdown stuff about? Does that kinda thing happen a lot here?"

"Lemme go!" Jeremy squirms in the headlock, his hands going to grasp her arms. The immediate area surrounding them changes. The light dims and what's visible further down the hall distorts, while the ambient noise surrounding them fades out.

"Okay, okay, that's enough. Falconer, let the da- let Sharma go."

Abrams hoped that letting him squirm out himself would help him save some face, but that plan backfired. She places a hand around Charcoal's arm, grip firm, and pried her away.

"And as for the lockdown...." She sighs, sparing a glance towards the girls. If it's any consolation, they're not the ones she's annoyed with, not by a long shot.
"Think of it as a fire drill. Practice evacuations, making sure you kids know how to get out without killing each other, all that. If you have any questions, drop by my office later - right now I have to make sure that Falconer here doesn't get friendly with anyone else. Try not to strangle each other while I'm gone, okay?"

And, if they have nothing else to say, Abrams will be dragging Charcoal off for a nice heart to heart.

While most of the attention's on Abrams and Charcoal, Lucja falls back against the wall, eyes unfocused. She tries to steady herself, squeezing her eyes closed and doing her best to slowly lower herself to the ground. With a stumble, she falls over along the wall halfway down. Her skin starts to look a little pale as she keeps her hands flat on the ground, swaying back and forth but doing her best to keep herself steady. For a moment she seems about to try and say something before she thinks better of it, squeezing her mouth shut into a grimace.

The first myth of reality; the myth of familiarity. That which you assume you know best, you observe the least. Sofas are just sofas. Doors are just doors. Floors are just floors. A brown boy with a book on a sofa was just a brown boy on a sofa with a book. Clearly, the night was too cold for the boy, still in gloves, still in full coat, scarf up. Hair loose, eyes intent on the page.

He sat. He listened. He turned the page.
There had been a moon, and a rabbit had run across the road, and the leaps of that rabbit were longer than either Ammi or his horse liked.
Sighed to himself for a moment as the incident continued. Strange that someone awkward had decided to come out to a common space wearing pajamas. Of course, Karif wasn't fond of wearing pajamas at all - thank god for cotton bedsheets.

Karif bit his lower lip while he read, hidden by the scarf. Ashley was... what, half of Jeremy's weight? But what was he going to do about that? The boy had nothing in him to act. No desire to stand up; just wanted to bounce off things. Shaking his head, Karif turned the page and tried to reconcentrate on purple prose. The common room was a good kind of noisy - people all around, talking amongst themselves. The illusion of being social, which was important, because if Karif was seen as antisocial, with his powers, he figured he was going to face down some problems.
In February the McGregor boys from Meadow Hill were out shooting woodchucks, and not far from the Gardner place bagged a very peculiar specimen.
Still, Bluebird was around. Best to play it safe around her. An errant cheek brush, a bump of the shoulder, and he could hurt her very, very badly. Worse still, he could cause damage that cost millions to repair. To anyone outside the boy's head, all they'd see was a momentary shudder - and given the temperature, and the way he was dressed, maybe he was just cold.

But he was sitting there, so easily unnoticed.

The roommate situation was also... disquieting. A hologram. Nice enough person, but it felt a bit like a reminder that Karif was a hazard. Bonus, he appeared to be from a society that espoused some... remarkably unpleasant views. Karif had wanted to throw a book at him the second he started talking about 'the girls.'

Just moments after Jeremy is released, the light and sound returns to normal. He stands there for a moment, rubbing his neck and giving Charcoal a scowl as an inept stand-in for actually breaking free. Distracted as he is, it takes him a moment to notice Lucja against the wall, and when he does..

Jeremy stares wide-eyed, looking as though he's frozen against his will.. for a moment.

"L-lucja?"
