Alexis shook her head a little and then kind of tugged at the hood of her jacket.

"I-it's o-okay... I-I kn-know h-her... s-she w-was in..." she frowns and switches over to intercom.

I had her in my last team... her name's Tuft... I don't think Spooky wants her to leave the part, I just kind of entered her number by mistake but... she nods to herself it's not real fire... and I know Tuft wouldn't hurt me.

She smiles and nods to Sam, looking more confident by the minute, Yeah, we'll see what happens. Thanks, Sam.

Spooky, meanwhile, kind of rolled up to its feet without a sound, waddled over to Louie and looked at him with the same smile...

Except all of a sudden, the eyes and mouth of Spooky began to just... float around on its face, completely independ of each other. It wasn't better when a disembodied tongue poked out its tongue at the duck.

Then,

"Spooky, that's enough. Don't bother Louie." Alexis called out and held up Spooky's monsphere as a warning. A few of the other mons in her team chuckled in a kind of creepy way, the Froslass giggling slightly as it hovered in the air to the left of its trainer.

Louie watches the Gengar silently as it floats around him, just...waiting. But when its tongue appears from nowhere, Louie squints, giving it a solid Peck. Because Louie doesn't have time for this nonsense.

Spooky huffed angrily as the duck used Peck, and for a few seconds it seemed as if the ghost (which was also rubbing its poor tongue) was going to attack, but Alexis' order turned its smile into an angry frown and it hovered backwards, the other members of Team Creep chuckling in order, the Weavile especially looking like it was having a field-day. Alexis gave her team a worried look before she tried a smile at Sam.

"S-so-sorry Sam... Spooky's a b-bit..."

Enzo appeared not long after Alexis, wearing something akin to this. He'd removed his enhancement chips in the database a few days ago, since things had calmed down somewhat and while magic was fun, shocking everything around him every few minutes was less so. He'd get the hang of it later. Anyway, this meant he was wearing his normal uniform colors, if a few shades darker than normal.

He blinked and looked around at the others and their Mons, completely unaware that spooky had tried to start a fight just there.

"Oh, wow. We got costumes. Neat!"

He started looking for his own monspheres, and quickly found them on his belt. He went to pull one out, and yelped in surprise as they all poured out instead. He tried and failed utterly to catch a few before they hit the ground. They all activated at more or less the same time, revealing: a Ponyta, a Dragonair, a Tentacruel, Kadabra, Parasect and a Ratata wearing a smaller version of Enzo's beret. The last quickly leapt up onto Enzo's shoulder, making him start and nearly fall over. He just caught himself, and looked from his Mons team to his fellow Wunderkind looking equal parts nervous and stoked.

"Uhm. Wow."

Uplink Room
Lauren made her way to the uplink room, and perused the tablet. "Wow, there are...a lot of choices..." she trailed off. It was more than a little intimidating. "I don't know, what should I...."

Ambassador Leafshade sighed, and said, "Come on, let's not waste time! I want to get started!" She then hopped off of Lauren's shoulder, onto the tablet.

Lauren jumped, and dropped the tablet with a small crash. "Hey, what're you--

"I'm just speeding things up." Ambassador Leafshade walked over the tablet, causing it to emit random beeps and boops until the screen showed "selection complete". She nodded to herself in satisfaction, and started walking towards her pod. "There," she said over her shoulder, "now we can go."

Lauren shook her head, shrugged, and then made her way over to her own pod.

Digital World

Lauren appeared in the room with a soft "whop", and followed suit with everyone else's self-inspection. She was now wearing a pink-and-white-striped jacket, white shorts, black boots with pink laces, and a white ball cap with the mons battler logo on it in pink. Ambassador Leafshade had undergone a bit more dramatic of transformation. Her black coat now had pink rings in it, and she seemed slightly larger. She also had a miniature version of

"Hey, this is kind of neat!" Lauren bounced from one foot to the other, testing her motion. "I don't really feel too different. I wonder how much we've changed..."

Ambassador Leafshade clung to Lauren's shoulder to maintain her balance. "I don't know about you, but I have the strangest urge to say "Furret" over and furret." There was short pause while the Ambassador mouthed her previous sentence, trying to figure out what she'd said. "...I mean over."

And Silvie blipped in belatedly, in all her hotdog colored glory. Her jumpsuit was still yellow, but her Wunderoos were replaced with a bright red pair of shorts, her boots (still red) were shorter and less clunky, as were her gloves. There were a few other changes, as well: she now had a matching red vest and small satchel, a red and yellow cap with a stylized monsphere emblem, and her hair was ridiculously poofed out. Seriously, it was like somebody detached her ponytail and bangs, tossed them in the dryer, and then reattached them.

"Woo, that took a while-" She blinked, and said, "Oh, you guys are all here. Sorry about that."

"Well, I've got a Blastoise, Spearow, Dugtrio, Magnemite, Vulpix and Espeon," Emily said, keeping them under wraps for the time being. If everybody set their Mons loose, things would get crowded very quickly.

"Oh! No, it's okay." Louie's reaction surprises Sam as much as anyone. But then again, he did always seem like a pretty serious bird in Purple. "I think Spooky just startled him or something. I'm sure he didn't mean it." As the others arrive, he turns, grinning. "Isn't this so cool, guys? Oh, Enzo, your team looks pretty neat. I've got a Dragonair too! Oh, Lauren, Leafshade looks really neat. Is she one of the new ones? She looks pretty cute that way." Sam laughs, and waves to Silvie and Emily as they show up.

Meanwhile, with a harumph, Louie turns from Alexis's ghost, giving Enzo's team a once over. As Lauren appears, he makes eye contact with Lampshade, before giving the honored Ambassador an approving nod. He well understands the importance of diplomacy in these complicated times.

Alexis clapped her hands excitedly as everyone else made it into the world (with a few exceptions), laughing slightly as the rattata of Enzo's jumped at its master. They all looked really cool in their outfits, but she wondered what classes of trainers the others were... however, before she could ask, Emily pointed out about all the mons running around, and with a faint blush she collected the remaining four of her team... but Spooky was nowhere to be seen.

Can someone see Spooky? she asked out loud, not realizing that the gengar was floating right behind her, copying her expressions in a pretty creepy way.

Max materialized with sort of a humming "zwom" sound effect. He's wearing a black leather racing jacket with darj blue sleeves, the color spanning across his shoulders and upper chest and back. There's also a thin blue stripe going across the chest that matches up with a black stripe on either sleeve. The jacket is open, and underneath is a gray ribbed t-shirt. He's also sporting a pair of dark gray cargo pants and a pair of dark blue and black high-top sneakers. And the pièce de résistance, on his head, a gray fedora with a black band, and on that band is a stylized white monsphere logo.

Currently though, Max is just enjoying having fleshy hands again. "Whoa. This is trippy."

His monspheres are arranged on his belt, three on either side, and he's wearing a gray and white messenger bag on his back, with the strap across his chest. He suddenly becomes aware he's wearing a hat, which normally would be pretty unusual. He takes it off and admires it.

"Dude, this is sweet. I need this hat in real life." Max flips his totally sweet hat in his hands as he places it back on his head. "Oh yeah."

Suddenly Max becomes aware of people other than himself.

"Oh... hey guys." Looking around, it appears that most of his siblings kind of have themes to their outifts and battlemon. He checks his status. "Umm... I guess I'm a 'race fan?' I mean, I guess that's technically accurate, but I'm not sure what that really means in the world of battle mon."

"Oh yeah, battle mon! I don't know how they do it, but they got me a bunch of my old guys. Let's see..." Max pops open each of his monspheres and instroduces his battlemon. "A cacturne I named Saguaro, a metagross I named Hovertank, a magnemite, a swellow, a sharpedo, and..."

Max's final monsphere opens to reveal a pale white rapidash whose flaming tail and mane burn grey with just a slight hint of purple, instead of the usual firey oranges and reds. Fans of the series will notice this is a rare 'sparkly' version of rapidash. Quite the collector's item! Max just stares at it for a moment, before recalling all of his battlemon.

"Well, anyway, that's my battlemon."

Having given up on Spooky for now, Alexis' jaw dropped at the sight of the Rapidash. Partly because the creature was on fire, but also because it was shiny she'd only ever seen one before, a shiny pidgey... but she'd attacked it instead of trying to catch it!

Wow... everyone's got so many differents monsters...

Kid takes a few steps around, adjusting, as the last child blips in- Janet, wearing her normal suit, but with a professor's coat worn over it. "Oh, I don't think I like the look of this..." She mumbles.

Kid turns on her heels, throwing up a fist. "Okay, we're all here. Where do we start?"

Enzo was in the midst of putting his mons back in their spheres while the others imported and Sam looked over the map. He had all of them but Ratata put away now, and looked up.'

"Uhm, I could try deep diving and locating the juniorkind, but I can't make any guarantees about it working.

"Also, while I'm thinking about it, I don't think we should modify any of the code if we can avoid it. Video games are made kind of compact and I'm kind of worried about breaking it... So, if we can let's try to stay within the game's rules? I mean, there's a couple things we can do, if we're careful, but nothing that we couldn't do just as easily with cheat codes. Like, having 99 Health Elixirs or something, sure. Not so much changing the terrain or NPC text and stats and stuff."

"Well, we could try the NPCs," Emily said, "Sure, they'll probably just stick to the script, but it's worth a shot."

With that, she headed on over to one of the nurses and began the inquisition, "Hi, do you happen to know if there are any trainers doing the gym circuits right now?"

We should set out looking for them! Alexis added cheerfully, looking out the window of the center they were in, I bet there's a kindly doc or prof, she gave Janet a meaningful look, who has some kind of BattleNav or something that we can use to keep in touch! If we spread out and look for them in the towns, I bet we can find them! she looked between the others.

I mean, you remember what mister Rivendare said, one is really early on, one is mid-game and the last one's doing the optional stuff.

She paused for a while to gather her thoughts and then continued, there's nine of us, right? So how about three on every kid?

"You realize that if we run into eachother after splitting up," Kid starts, "We'll have to battle. Like, have to."

Emily walks up to the 'nurse', who responds probably as one would expect her to:

"HELLO, WELCOME TO THE MONSPITAL BATTLE CENTER. HERE YOU AND A FRIEND CAN BATTLE ONE ANOTHER USING A DEUCE CONNECT CABLE. UNFORTUNATELY NO CONNECT CABLE WAS DETECTED. PLEASE CHECK YOUR DEUCE AND TRY AGAIN."

The nurse goes back to blankly staring into space, and the children can tell that entire block of text was in capital letters.

"Hey now, we're here on business, not pleasure. If we start catching mons we'll be here all week. We need to stay focused on the mission.

... that said, depending on how good the guy on the optional stuff is, we may or may not need better mons."

Max considers taking a snapshot of the world map. But, realizing he's in a video game, he tries to see if there's a way he can 'access the menu,' as it were, and find the map there.

Sam watches Emily trying to talk to the nurse, and laughs at the result. "I guess that kinda makes sense...I mean, it's just a game, I don't think us being in here would make them smart or anything. But it's neat to actually hear what they sound like! And I think maybe we should split up anyway, Kid. Even though I bet you're right, if the kids are all in different parts of the game that shouldn't be a problem, right? And I think maybe we could meet back up inside a town if we tell each other where first? 'Cause you never fight anyone inside a town except in a gym and all."

Meanwhile, at the mention of "better mons", Louie crosses his wings, staring at the back of Max's head. He isn't offended, though...merely disappointed in Max's judgment.

"Oh well, worth a shot," Emily said, "Anyway, yeah, I think we should split up. If we all descend on them at once they'll think we're no-good dirty bandits come to steal their Battlemons or something." No doubt the recurring villains of the piece would leap out of the bushes at them in fairly short order, but Emily really didn't think they needed numbers to deal with them.

Alexis bopped Spooky on the back of his head as the gengar was making faces at Louie again, her face nonetheless breaking into a smile.

I wonder who they are. Maybe it's team Submarine! I wonder if they're going to be the stupid cartoon versions, or the serious game versions...

Lauren coughed in embarrassment. "Yeah, um...I should probably go with the easier group. I don't really know much about the game. I don't even know what mons I got..." She fumbled one of her monspheres loose and started poking it. "I mean, how do I even--YEEK!"

The sphere opened suddenly with a flash of light, disgorging onto the floor a shocking apparition: it had a gaping mouth filled with teeth, and a long sinuous, slimy body and a slight smell of the ocean. It...just lay there on the floor. Kind of limply.

Ambassador Leafshade hopped off of Lauren's shoulder and sniffed it. "It smells kind of like a fish."

Lauren, having regained her composure edged a bit closer. "I guess those do kind of look like fins..."

The creature lazily rolled its eyes upwards to look at Lauren. "Huntail." it declared solemnly.

Lauren and Ambassador Leafshade stared at it in silence for a moment. Then Lauren looked up at the others and asked hesitantly, "Is...is it going to be okay out of water like this?"

Max's eyes stare blankly at nothing as he checks out the menu, particularly curious about the configuration options and how they would affect his perception of the game world, and the save function. He wonders if saving and reloading would affect the whole game world, or just himself. He attempts to save his game, just for good measure.

Suddenly Max feels something, very faintly, on the back of his head and attempts to brush it off.

"Hey, guys, looks like we've got access to the game menu. It's got that same map, so we don't have to worry about getting lost! Pretty handy."

Max shifts his weight. "I'm sorry, I sort of spaced out for a second there. Did I hear we'd agreed to split up? That's probably the best way do get things done quickly, unless of course we run into each other like Kid said. I wonder if we could rig our game maps to tell us where the other groups are, in addition to our own?"

Actually, Max secretly wasn't terribly broken up about the possibility of battling his friends and team mates, even if it did slow down the mission a little.

Umm... she folded her arms, looking back up at Lauren.

I don't think water-mons... are... that bad-off on land? I mean, they... can still fight? Maybe?

Enzo spoke up to answer Alexis and Lauren.

"Water mons are fine on land, yeah. They'd always be at a disadvantage otherwise, since you really only find water mons in the water when you're trying to catch one. You'd never be able to use them against fire and rock types, which is kind of where they shine."

As Max talked about the menu more, Enzo decided to have a look in for himself, checking the contents of his bags quickly and rearranging his mons as he liked. Meanwhile, his Ratata that he had yet to share the name of with everyone was curling up and making itself comfortable on his shoulder. It was currently watching Huntail and Ambassador Leadshade.

Max fiddles with that closed door, being pretty sure it's just a static closed-door sprite that doesn't open up to anything, and also dives back into his menu to check and see what kinds of "config" options are available.

"Okay, guys, this room is super-boring. Are we done here? Can we head down the escalator now?"

He kinda wanted to get his mons-battle on. It had been a while.

As the children head down to the main Monspital room, they all pick up a familiar voice.

"Yes, I would like for you to restore my party to full health please, thank you."

As they head down, they see a somewhat familiar figure standing at the counter.

Her Wunderkind uniform is largely untouched, but the additions to it are much different; instead of her normal cloak, she wears a long white coat with light blue trim, worn open over her uniform. There's a light blue design on the back, and two matching rings on both sleeves. Her clunky gloves are gone, replaced by much skinnier ones, and her boots resemble something midway between the children's normal boots, and rather clunky shoes.

Another major difference is that, rather than wearing her weird high-tech eyepatch, her head is wrapped in bandages, covering the same eye. For the time being, Thirteen doesn't seem to have noticed the others.

That's not likely to last long, however, as Sam darts ahead and waves to her, Louie strolling calmly behind him with his leek shouldered. "Thirteen! Hey! What're you doing here? Are you looking for the kids in here too? I didn't know you even knew about BattleMons!"

Thirteen looks over, not horribly surprised to see the others. "Who's to say that I'm here on a mission? Perhaps I'm taking a break. I have off time myself, you know."

She turns back to the nurse, taking her Monspheres back. "Though..There is somethign strange here. There's more than us, and the Juniorkind here. I'm sure I recognize the signal from them, but..."
