Annie had already stood, but turned when Richard asked his question. "The ones out here know a thing or two. But the ones on the mainland? They probably wouldn't know it at all, really..."
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

As Idran retires for the evening, and the Domans disperse to their own matters, the ship presses on. Deeum heads up top, watching the ocean pass by as they head to the city of D-52. The sun hasn't quite set yet, and the clouds glow orange as she reaches the edge of the ship, the rain having faded into a thin drizzle for now. There's few men at work here - no sails, no rigging, everything's mechanized on this ship it appears - but enough head back and forth that she's not quite alone with her thoughts. Krynus's sun slowly begins to sink below the horizon as red lights begin to glow along the ship walls.

Meanwhile, Spob begins his research belowdecks, having found a small library tucked away in a corner of the vessel. Though he's not especially familiar with the theory behind either side of things, it seems that it might be possible with the proper machinery behind it. Thankfully, it occurs to him that they have someone with them with a bit of experience combining magic and technology. And though Annie's since gone to bed for the night herself, she should be available to talk over the idea tomorrow.

Night passes, and dawn comes and goes. As the sun rises, barely distinguishable through the rain that's returned in force this day, those that look in the proper direction can just barely see the first sign of the city shining through the clouds. Points of light, speckled about almost randomly, clustered together in a single area of the horizon with a single bright beacon floating above them. Soon, as they approach closer, the city begins to come into clearer view. The points seem to be windows, lights coming from the buildings of the city. And though some certainly are immense, towering easily dozens of stories tall, by far the most noticable landmark is the massive pyramid - glistening blue glass sparkling in the rain, it stands easily 400 feet tall if not more, with that beacon beckoning forth from its peak.

The city stretches out along the horizon as they grow closer, though no land seems to be visible on either side. A floating island metropolis, by all appearances. The ship slowly approaches the city docks, and at this distance those on the ship can even make out people moving back and forth on the boardwalk. From what the crew say, they'll make dock by 2, in only another half-hour or so, and then they'll be able to see this city up close for themselves.

On ship, Idran hasn't yet been seen, not coming out for breakfast nor lunch. Annie and Selene have made the occasional appearance outside, though, and from what they say, he's merely resting from the exertion of the portal, if reluctantly. Visitation's fine if anyone wishes to do such, but otherwise, they won't see him about until they arrive.

Well, time was a-wasting. Spob stifled a yawn (he could never get a decent night's sleep in this place), and went to track down Annie. If anyone could answer his questions, it would be her.

Spob would find Annie leaning on the railing on the deck. The clouds prevented too much light from getting through, and as such, she actually wore her goggles around her neck...Although she was still squinting. She didn't notice him approaching, appearing lost in thought, at least until he got fairly close.

"..Oh! Hey, Spob."

Jeridan hadn't had time or need to do training for some time now. So it was that starting that morning, he could be found in the Ship's Gym. He'd had a little trouble getting used to the equipment there at first, but it wasn't long before he was using a treadmill contentedly. As other folks trickled in and began to make use of various machines, he began to notice something troubling though; The humans were, in various degrees, sweating. Jeridan did not sweat, and he certainly didn't observe the ring illusioning any up for him. Then again, he also wasn't terribly exerted yet. Maybe if he just gave it some more time?

Kelne could also be found up on the deck, gazing out at the city with an expression that seemed equal parts thoughtfulness and suspicion. He nodded absently to Spob upon seeing him, but his attention soon returned to the city. It wasn't quite something outside of his experience, though the last such place had been nowhere near as lively when he'd been there. The endless succession of lunatics trying to kill him had also precluded any sightseeing.

This place was certainly going to be an experience. Though whether it would be a positive or negative one remained to be seen. It would be a foolish person indeed who bet against negative, given the way his luck ran.

Since it was dark and drizzly outside, Deeum decided to check the ship out a little more. It's going to be a fair bit, so she might as well get a good work out in the gym. If anything, she can think about what's going on a bit more and to work off some of the greasy food she's been eating so far.

With her towel draped over her shoulders, and wearing some blackshorts, and a yellow tank-top, Deeum enters the Gym. She nods to Jeridan as she walks to what looks like a stationary bicycle.

"huh, does this place have the room for this?".

Jeridan nodded back. In response to her query:

"That bike doesn't go anywhere. Sounds silly, but so did this until I thought about it."

He continued to run at an even pace, the treadmill ensuring that he didn't actually go anywhere as he did. He wondered idly if the people on this ship, as a whole, didn't already know about them. They hadn't been making a point of secrecy so far, come to think of it. That in mind, he was tempted to take off the ring, It wasn't particularly uncomfortable wearing it, but there was always a weird moment when he looked at his hands and didn't see the familiar dark brown lines of millions of hairs there greeting him.

Ah well, idle musings. Conversation time was now.

"Give it a try."

Deeum takes a seat on the bicycle and nudges at the pedals.
'So.. it just stays here? Kind of defeats the point of having one of these'. She shrugged and pedals away.

'What brings you in here? Looks like you're doing well enough without breaking a sweat.'.

This evening, Richard realized that perhaps he should at least get back into training. In his room wouldn't be enough for that, especially considering that he'd never be able to do all of his leg exercises in a cramped space... And probably it would be rude to the others on the ship as well. So, he asked someone on a whim if there was any decent place for him to work out... and he found out that the ship had a GYM.

Wow, he thought, They really do have a lot of good shit here, don't they? No reason for him NOT to use it, then. Once getting there, he took a look around at the various devices that they had set up. Not all of them (okay, almost none of them) were familiar, but he could probably get some help with figuring out how not to kill himself with the contraptions sometime after he finished his stretching routine. No reason to embarrass himself with a cramped or pulled muscle because he tried to show off.

As he's stretching, he notices Deeum and Jeridan are already here. Huh. Great minds or somethin' like that.

"Hey Annie." He gave her a short wave as he walked closer, while his other hand held onto the strap of a backpack. "I was doing some research in the library, but there's some things I'm not sure about. Mind if I ask you about some stuff?"

Jeridan nodded to Richard as he came in. Right after, he answered Deeum:

"Actually. I don't sweat. And I'm not sure the ring knows to make me look like I do. I've also only been on for about fifteen minutes, so I guess we'll see."

"How much do you know about radio waves?" Spob moved his arms back, stretching his shoulders, and said, "I was thinking about Kelne's idea, and I've been thinking about different ways it could work."

Deeum's words brought back memories of his time in the desert like a mallet to the snout. It wasn't the most embarrassing or uncomfortable thing he'd experienced, but it was still bad. After a moment, he realized she'd said something else, too. What was it? Ah, right.

"Yeah. It's a fairly nice gym, once you figure out what everything in it is actually for. ... I'm still not sure about that one."

He gestured to a chair, mounted on a steel frame Only the chair was laid totally flat. There were steel rods protruding almost straight up from the back in matched pairs, and each had a hole at the end. A bar suspended from a steel cord hung over the chair. It was, currently, not in use.

"Eh" was Richard's eloquent reply. "I've gotta stay in shape SOMEHOW, right?"
As he finishes his stretching routines, he looks at the various machiens, some of whom he can kind of understand, but a couple he can't quite get....
"Probably need some help with these machines..." he mused. And then he noticed the weight bench.

"Hey, one of you wanna spot for me over here?"

Deeum sensed that her first comment wasn't exactly the best thing to say. But some things are best left alone. She started working up alittle sweat on her own while going a little faster on the bike

'That is, indeed, a strange looking .. machine of sorts. Is this what they use over here to keep in shape? Most of it seems.. almost needless.' she commented. What next? Stairs that move in one spot?

Enough musing about these strange contraptions, Deeum thought to herself. thing will be vastly different over here than they are over in Gaera and there's nothing to do about it. Though.. what is it like over there? What will the people be like and how do they survive on such little magic in the first place. 'Heh' she said more to herself than anyone else.

After some fiddling, Jeridan managed to turn the treadmill off. He started to head over to where Richard intended to do repetitions, and called back to Deeum as he went:

"Hm? Something funny?"

He fell into position to spot easily enough; Gaerans had this form of exercise as well, if most of them didn't have such a polished and clean looking set of weights for it.

"Anyway, what do you guys think of all this?" Deeum asked as she chugs along steadily. The question was overused quite a lot at this point, but what else is there to talk about?

"Oh?" Kelne asked idly, in response to Spob's query, "I imagine radios could provide a bit of a boost, but the trick would be to do it without getting the signals too intertwined. We don't want to attract the attention of anyone who happens to have a radio of their own, after all."

"Still not sure." said Richard between reps. For a moment he stopped to catch his breath "It seems like a nicer place than home in some ways. And so much of its done without magic, ya know?" He gets up and shoves a couple more weights onto the bar. "But eh. Makes me wonder what sorts of problems they got here, honestly."

Skipping ahead over some chat stuff, and brooming on since this RP has set for much too long.

Not too long after the conversation in the gym or Spob and Kelne's work on the beacon, the boat pulls into the dock. Idran, Annie, and the others meet the rest of the Gaerans at the gangplank, and together they disembark. Though still leaning on the cane, Idran's looking better than he had been on Gaera, if nothing else.

And finally, the travelers have arrived in the floating city of D-52, a city that although not much bigger than Doma, is quite definitely taller. Subtle signs of technology are everywhere, though most of the citizens they can see milling about in the light drizzle barely give it a second thought. Idran and Annie lead the group down the concrete walkways, passing by innumerous mechanical vehicles rolling down the wider path alongside. Soon they're led into one of the city's buildings, where after a quick check at the desk, they're brought up to their rooms in this massive hotel.

After checking in, everyone's given a few hours to settle into their place. Things are fairly nice here - warm, clean, well-decorated, and a bit lavish. Private bathrooms, television, Commwebb access - even though they might not know what some of this is, it's there for their use. Outside their rooms, the hotel has all the amenities they might want: a dining room, a bar, an indoor pool, a tourism shop. Not to mention what's to be found in the city itself.

Unfortunately for Spob and Kelne, they don't get as much of a chance to enjoy things, as after only a couple hours they're pulled away by Annie to a nearby broadcast tower to start work on the beacon. But for the others, things are up to them how to spend their time.

Jeridan, after having most everything in the room explained to him with painful slowness and detail (on his own insistence) by Annie, Idran, and even a bit by Spob, locked himself in and drew the curtains. Alone for the first time since arriving on Krynus, he removed his illusion ring, and shook out from head to toe. He'd been resisting the urge all day, and it was a great relief to finally do so now.

The next thing he really, really needed, was to bathe. After a boat ride over on Gaera, and another from the island on Krynus to the mainland (or, he assumed this was the mainland), his coat was starting to collect some very irritating salt crystals. However, he took some time to get into the shower; Jeridan was more than a little worried that his feet would slip on the shiney, smooth looking surface of the floor. Be silly to come so far only to break his neck in a hotel bathroom. When he did set foot on it, though, and his footing didn't abandon him, he hesitantly entered and started working the shower knobs. He learned very, very quickly which knob was hot and which was cold. After the first icy blast, he decided to stick with the other one.

He'd heard about hot water bathing... the nobles and some inns provided it, and he'd heard a very small number of them could even afford to have a system set up like this for their private use, but he never dreamed he'd ever experience that sort of luxury himself. Sparing the details, it was immensely gratifying! Alas, it wasn't quite perfect. The provided bar soap didn't seem to be made for hair, and it irritated his skin almost instantly. He set that aside, early on, and was using the shampoo... The bottle, being about the size of Jeridan's thumb, didn't get much of the job done. He sighed in irritation, little more than his head, neck and shoulders properly cleaned when the bottle ran out. He could hardly complain; It made sense, for humans. They had one small patch of thick hair and sensitive skin to clean. Still, that did nothing to alleviate his irritation. He stayed in long enough to rinse and remaining salt out of his fur, and then began an hour long process of drying himself with two towels and a hair drier. That fiasco led to another hour of combing out fur that had suddenly and bewilderingly burst out to twice it's normal body and thickness. By the time he was finally back to something close to normal (his tail still reminded him of Nekonian after a bad fright), the idea of slipping back into clothes and straightening his fur again afterward to avoid chaffing was not worth considering. He'd just stay in the rest of the evening.

He sat on the bed, and tried to work the 'ree moat', as Annie had referred to it. Point it at the glass box... check. Push this little red button... He started as the TV came to life, dropping the remote on the floor. There was something on the screen talking about the weather in various locations throughout the area. Temperatures and humidities and on and on. He laughed at himself a little and picked up the remote again.

"Ishtar, pull it together, man."

He flipped through channels for a while. Nothing much interesting was on. Or, rather, from one point of view everything that was on was interesting. Very interesting, if not appealing. It was sort of like visiting a zoo full of strange and exotic animals from far provinces... very boring animals that were occasionally foul mouthed, often violent, sometimes shameless tarts... Then, every once in a while, it would swing violently towards the intellectual. Political debates on subjects he knew nothing about, documentaries on animals he'd never seen before... All of it interspersed with what he assumed could only be merchants, hocking foreign objects with foreign purposes for what were apparently "low, low prices!" Somehow it was all a little too much right now. It all moved at it's own pace, and asking questions didn't seem to produce responses. He turned it off.

He glanced at the Commweb machine, sitting over near the window. He could try it... But he couldn't seem to remember much of what Annie and Idran had said to him about operating it. He remembered words like 'click' and 'key' and 'mouse'... None of them made any sense to him in the context they'd been explained in, and he didn't particularly feel inclined to mess with it right now. So what was left? He still didn't want to leave the room just yet, so looking around the city was out. His eyes fell on the phone, sitting on a side table next to the bed. Spob had explained briefly about phones, and those at least sounded pretty simple. Suddenly his stomach growled pretty loudly. Well, now was as good a time as any. The phone had some numbers on the hand piece, each one next to a label. He tried putting one in, and putting the phone to his ear like he'd been shown.

"Hello? Room service?"

Soon after exiting the Gym, Deeum felt really.. well, pretty grody. So after arriving into her room she made good, good use of the bathroom facilities! Deeum doesn't get to indulge herself very often, so she's gonna milk this for all it's worth. And it was quite refreshing. The tub was deep enough to submerge herself nearly from head to toe.
This place just seemed too luxurious. Almost what a king and queen would have. The only thing that bothered her was the fact that there was an unnecessary amount of toilets in one bathroom. Two seems a bit much. Ah well, she'll ponder on that later. For now Deeum just relaxes.

Nearly forty minutes later, Deeum strolls out of the bathroom while drying her hair. She needed that severely. You just can't get that sort of experience back home.
Deeum takes a seat on her bed and looks at the TV and some.. weird smaller TV that can fold down. Ignoring these, her eyes makes a connection to various pamphlets and brochures for the Hotel. Now these seems interesting and it has been a while since she had actually had anything else to eat.
Though.. part of her is feeling guilty. They're here for a reason and it almost feels like she's treating it like a vacation. Maybe it is, in a sense, for her.

Despite Spob's previous grumbling, he couldn't help but enjoy the luxuries the city provided. Spacious rooms, regular running water, electricity, and a myriad of other things were at his furry little finger tips. He didn't enjoy all of them (the commweb could crash and burn a fiery electronic death, for all he cared...at least, he thought so until he remembered Erin. He made an instant silent apology right afterwards), but there was enough to keep his interest.

Or at least, there would be, if he didn't have work to do. Spob sighed to himself as he went with Annie, but he did not complain; after all, this was his idea. There's no rest for the weary he told himself, as they neared the tower.

Heading from her room after an hour or two of relaxation, Deeum follows the path to the dining hall, using once more one of the more interesting items on this world: elevators! A short trip to the ground floor, and following of conveniently-posted signs about the lobby area, and she finds her way to the dining hall, where there's a staff eager to take her order. And on the edge of the room, Idran's already there to be found just starting on his own meal from the looks of it. He looks up as she enters, smiling and beckoning her over.

Jeridan, however, doesn't even bother going that far, taking advantage of the hotel's expansive service. On the other side of the device, a slightly tinny voice echoes forth. "One moment, please." After a short delay, a second voice speaks up. "Room service. We're currently on the lunch menu, though special orders are always welcome. What can we get you?"

Kelne couldn't help but regard the room with moderate suspicion. It just seemed a tad too lavish and spacious to be entirely trustworthy. You didn't put people up in such surroundings unless you were trying to distract them with luxury. Still, the rest of the building seemed to be largely composed of just such rooms, so clearly any attempt to lull people was aimed at civilisation as a whole, rather than him in particular.

Of more concern was the sheer number of rooms which could be occupied by damn near anybody. At least in an inn, you could get a sense of who your fellow patrons were by looking about the common room during mealtimes. Here, in theory at least, a demon lord could check into the room next door and the first he'd know about it was when the damn thing came crashing through the wall. Very unlikely yes, but Kelne made sure he knew exactly where the others were staying in case he needed to find anyone quickly.

Since he was heading out again soon, he confined himself to stowing his gear securely and checking a couple of the more obvious features. The television was soon switched off after it tried to sell him some kind of wonder knife. Clearly these people worshipped a merchant god. The thought sent him wandering over to the commweb terminal to satisfy his curiosity.

The thing had been billed as more or less an ever-expanding library contributed to by a substantial proportion of the populace, so it was potentially an excellent source of information. Kelne decided that its first test would be a listing of the local gods. The museum back at the portal complex had been fairly illuminating in terms of technology, less so on religion.

Figuring out how to work the blasted thing based on trial and error, brief experiences with Infinity computers and a short primer for the group from Annie took a while. He still had some time to look over the commweb's offerings before he left though.

Then it was off to the lobby to meet up with Annie and Spob. He still felt distinctly uncomfortable without a well-used sword at his side to warn off anyone who might otherwise think him easy prey. But carrying one would only draw attention, and he felt quite capable of demonstrating to anybody who decided to mess with him the error of their ways.

Really all of it was still sort of amazing, and only now was it sinking in for Richard. Here was a place where they apparently had the ability to pipe water easily into one's rooms at will, to transport people by crazy flying contraptions, and all of it done without a single lick of magic as he understood it. No mages waving their arms, no one spending lots of time enchanting pieces, or even knowledge OF it.

Somehow as he figured out how to get his shower to pump out hot water instead of cold, it hardly comforted him. After years of being taught about the evils of magic and all of its works, THIS was the true magic for him. It was so... alien. And yet, it WAS amusing to realize that the same things his own people had hated were even more prevalent here. And showing just as many good points at that. Still... where's the other fucking boot at, anyway? he thought. I mean, so far, this has been almost like taking a vacation, friend in need aside.

Ah, well. No use brooding over my bad feeling. I wonder what other stuff they've got around here? What DO they consider tourist-worthy? And with that in his mind, Richard dries off and gets dressed, with hopes of seeing even more of what this strange world had to offer. Maybe I'll even see what passes for beer around here.

Deeum takes a quick glance at what this place had to offer in the way of food stuff. The.. 'hoagie' looked liked it'd be worth a try. A lot of meat in one sandwich. Plus it looked far healthier than some of the deep-fried items she had before. Just after ordering she saw Idran at his table! Deeum informed the waiter where she'll be sitting and went to accompany him.

"Hey there, the food decent here?" she askes before sitting down.

He shrugs as Deeum sits down, taking another bite of his chicken. "It's all right, yeah. Settling in all right? I know it's a big adjustment from back home. It took me a couple of weeks to even start to get used to everything when we were stuck here." He gives a small chuckle as he glances back to the door, just before Richard wanders in. "Ah, I guess you weren't the only one that wanted a bite. Richard, over here!"

As Idran waits for Richard, Deeum gets a sudden sense of something she definitely wasn't expecting to feel here. Something pricks at her astral sense. Something strong and close by, strong enough to get a sense of even without scanning. She can't pick up where exactly without a scan, but she knows it's coming from somewhere in this room.

"Okay enough, I guess. I had no idea that advanced technology was so.. noisy." She replied with a respectful nod to Richard.

Deeum went from a rather pleased expression or one of concern. To her knowledge there shouldn't be anyone here powerful enough for her to notice, but there is someone here. Most defiantly here. She twists from side to side in her chair looking.. no, scanning around with her senses to get a better idea where it's coming from. 'This isn't right', she thought to herself.

Deeum's search of the room ended quickly enough- There was little magic on the planet, let alone the room. She quickly pinpointed the source- A young woman, mid teens or so. Her hair was dark and feathery, and her skin pale. She was looking right back at Deeum, with a look of mixed horror and confusion, and Deeum may note the dark rings around the girls eyes. And what's weird...She looks suspiciously similar to that Janda girl Deeum met before.

Before she can get a word in, though, the young woman turns and begins running. And as she does, Deeum gets the foul aftermath of elemental corruption in her senses, making her feel partially nauseated.

Annie walked along with Spob and Kelne towards the tower. As she walked, she seemed to be humming to herself. She kept her hands in the pocket of a hoodie she put on over the black and white suit she was wearing previously.

"Now, uh, this is technically illegal, and I don't think we've got a lot of time, especially with the rain. We have to get this-" She indicated to the satchel she had- "Up there." She indicated to the top of a very tall, wirey red and white tower.

"Any ideas?"
Hey there! Can I give you a hand?

'Who in the world was that? And why does she look familiar to me..?" She thought before feeling the after effects of that.. girl. Deeum leaned onto the table trying to regain her focus. Ugh, suddenly food doesn't seem that appealing right now.

"Did.. anyone else see that girl?"

Seeing Idran's wave, Richard wandered over towards their table. It was always good to hang out with friends, after all. And it was better to keep an eye on Idran, just in case h needed more help than he'd let on. "Hey, looks like food is on all our minds today." he said, smiling. "Still not sure what to make of all this mysel... eh? Girl? What girl?"

Getting to his feet as Richard sits down, Idran points off towards the door, his expression a mix of confusion and worry. "Didn't get a good look at her, but some girl just saw Deeum and bolted. I'm not sure what's going on, but that's never a good sign." Glancing back over, he spots her reaction to the girl's presence. "Deeum, are you all right? What happened? Do you know her?"

Kelne frowned thoughtfully. Rain or not, it was a tad visible to be floating up there on the carpet. Besides which, he'd left in in his room. The same went for anybody scaling the tower themselves. Still, there was one possible work-around. "Tell me, is there such a thing as a scrap-metal dealer somewhere about the place?" Kelne asked, looking about the see if he could spot any unclaimed junk.

"Uh...Not..Really." Annie replied. "I could find some, though. What do you need it for?"

"I'm planning on animating a small construct and setting it to climbing the tower," Kelne said. It ought to be a simple enough matter to assemble something with several limbs and animate it for a couple of hours or so.
