Campaign Cartographer

Unread postby Nekogami » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:14 am

So I was web surfing for DM related things when I happened upon this site.

I love the program and add-ons but it's kind of expensive. If you straight download it from the site, it's around 40-45 bucks a pop.

Still...sooo...pretty....

So anyway my questions:

1) Is there anyway to get these programs on the high seas? *nudge nudge wink wink*
2.) Does anyone have this program and is it as awesome as it looks?
3.) Is there a comparable program with possibly cheaper prices?
4.) Any and all opinions are welcome.

Only version 2, sadly (3 appears to be the most modern).

Alex...I love you.

Remind me that next time we meet I owe you a meal and the booze of your choice.

Glad to oblige. The site linked is pretty good for torrents and, if it ever fails, this place is also pretty good.

Also, on question 2/3), I tried out a mapping program ages back. It was made of naff graphics and general failure. Hopefully this one will be better.

I like it...so...I bought the CC3.

Now, I bought it through download so the links to download it are in my email. So does anyone else fancy it? I'm not great with it but I love playing around with it. I was hoping to redo some of the continental maps but I guess it could also do country maps.

If I have some cash next month, I'd like to get the City add-on and really go wild with making some of the capitals!

Igala attempt 2

Unread postby Nekogami » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:36 pm

Attempt one got deleted due to program error.

UPDATED: I looked at all the available nation maps and included some detail. You'll note more forest and some ice at about 72 degrees latitude.

It never occurred to me that new maps of Gaera could be made with this program. Can you zoom in on it to bring up/place more details (lesser cities, sites of note etc)?

Yeah and like photoshop there's layers so theoretically, I could detail the hell out of this thing then take out certain layers to only show pertinent things.

I had planned to make individual maps of the countries too.

The map up top is very incomplete thought. I just wanted to do the physical features but I plan to ad whatever information is on the map in the wiki.

Full colour maps would be pretty awesome, and Igala's not being changed up alot (or at all) currently, so the effort wouldn't go to waste.

*drops a tectonic bomb on Igala*

In seriousness: Awesome stuff so far. When I get money together I'll probably buy this program for myself, too.

Neato!

Little surprised at the lack of woodlands though o.o;
For some reason I always thought there was more of it.

Agree with you Dave, I was surprised with the lack of rivers, lakes, and woodlands.

Bes: It's a weird program but the results do indeed speak for themselves. I can't wait to become more proficient. I plan to get the City add-on so that I can map Doma! I so excite!

A map of Doma would be exceedingly good. How much do each of the add-ons cost, though? Paying for the main program seems fair enough, but there's got to be a dozen different addons on that website.

City Designer Pro is 39.95.

But for the mapping Gaera and its establishments the only other program I should need would be Fantay Floorplans, also 39.95. Then I could do the layout for established inns, homes, or other businesses.

Might make any potential mudding easier. And the nice thing about all this is that if we need specific stuff, any of our sprite artist can make it, save it as a bmp or png and it can be used for the maps or floorplans.

Roads

Unread postby Nekogami » Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:38 am

I assume there are major roads to each of the capitals. And I'm sure these roads have names. Is anyone able to supply them or suggest them, or...uh...something?

Updated the main Igala map. I don't think that I'll include roads in this map unless people absolutely want them and I doubt that right now anyone is that serious about it. My next project in CC3 main are the individual nations. So if you want detail or something more than what's presented in the wiki let me know. Otherwise, I'll either skip it or bare bones it.

Doma Capital

Unread postby Nekogami » Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:12 am

Yellow house = High income
Red house = moderate income
Brown house = low income
Blue house = shop/inn/bar/business

It's just a rough summation and by no means has every singe house in existence in Doma be I figure there's enough houses were if people were so inclined they could say, "So and so lives right there."

There's an ominous gazebo in park. I wonder what it's doing there...[/i]

Could take the clumps of houses as designations for residential districts. You seen 9 houses in the upper left, but there's more like 90. Or 900. How populous is Doma City?

I actually used Medieval London as a base so somewhere between 100k and 200k people was my guess.
