Long (Innate) Abilities

Unread postby Nekogami » Thu May 03, 2007 7:13 pm

Lenore requested this a while ago and I've been dragging my feet but Brian's post really put a fire under my feet and I decided to give it a shot.
Below are some examples of Dragon (Long) abilities that may be innate to them. Whether or not these abilities apply to Aldrosian or other kinds of dragons is up to their respective creators. The basic idea is that the Long have one primary breath weapon, or the natural properties of the dragon breath a secondary breath weapon, ususally a more powerful, condensed version, a spatial, defensive ability, and lastly a defensive, melee ability.
Again, these are only ideas that I've had and are by no means yet canon. I'll look forward to feedback from you all before I put it on the wiki.

Shadow

[Draconic Powers, Shadow] Acid Spitting 6 TP- Shadow Long are able to generate corrosive acid with a tar-like color and consistency to disable their prey or attacker. The acid is strong enough to corrode most metals and does not dilute in water making it very powerful and impossible to wash off. It does Level*3d6 damage for 1d6 rounds.

[Draconic Powers, Shadow] Corrosion Breath 3 TP- The original form of the Shadow Long's breath is a blackish gas that corrodes much like the acid. It's toxic to inhale since it's begins to eat away at the lung tissue. It will slowly corrode skin and is impossible to wash off. Level *1d6 for 1d8 rounds.

[Draconic Powers, Shadow]- Acid Skin 2 TP per round- By secreting the natural corrosive substance through their sweat glands, Shadow Long creates a waterproof layer of acid on their skin that burns upon contact. Rank+1d6 damage, adds to all melee attacks.

[Draconic Powers, Shadow] Corrosion Atmosphere- By continuously emitting their dark gaseous acid breath, a Shadow Long can create a protective and offensive atmosphere for itself and any immune allies. Area= Rank*1d6 hexes. Damage = Rank*1d6 for 1d8 rounds+ rounds in atmosphere.

Holy

[Draconic Powers, Holy] Searing Light- Long with holy affinities are able to open a brieft gate into the UpperRealm and direct a beam of pure holy at their opponents. The properties of this light are like extremely hot fire but in fact disintegrates rather then burns; disassembling at a cellular level.

[Draconic Powers, Holy] Healing Saliva- Treasured by Lanese apothecaries as a cure-all, Holy Long saliva does, in fact, speed up the healing process, encouraging cells to repair and reproduce.

[Draconic Powers, Holy] Purifying Aura- Holy Long have a natural healing effect on people and standing within a Holy Long's natural auric range can have a slow and weak healing effect. It is also said to be revitalizing to ones energy. Experienced Long can extend their aura to cover a wider range or increase the effectiveness of their aura.

Fire

[Draconic Powers, Fire] Flame Breath- Perhaps the most well known ability of dragons, it is beautiful and deadly. The flame of a fire Long can reach degrees to melt steel and harder metals. Its capable of melting sand into glass, as well.

[Draconic Powers, Fire] Oil Breath- An acrid smelling oil, the fire long uses this as a ignitor for it's flame. By storing up a well in its throat and regurgitating it on an enemy, it covers the opponent in an irritating oil that is also flameable. Not particularly strong by itself, it can extend the life of a flame considerably.

[Draconic Powers, Fire] Melting Atmosphere- A fire long can increase it's metabolism temporarily to increase it's body heat to a level that, in enclosed spaces can ignite flammable material and cause severe burns. This requires a lot of energy and the dragon must consume a great deal of food to restore it's body fat and energy afterwards.

Water/Ice

[Draconic Powers, Ice] Frost Breath- An Ice-based Long released a frigid gas that can freeze a target upon contact. The blast of air can be so cold that it destroys cells instantly.

[Draconic Powers, Ice] Crystal - Initially a liquid, once it hits a surface, its properties are such that it freezes the surface and begins to draw in water from the surrounding air and causes ice crystals to form. The crystals can weigh down an enemy as well as damage the body.

[Draconic Powers, Ice] Frigid Atmosphere- An Ice-based Long can absorb the heat of its surroundings and drop the temperature to below freezing creating a bitterly cold atmosphere where unprotected life can quickly find itself in danger of hypothermia.

[Draconic Powers, Ice] Cold Touch- Ice-based Long can absorb heat very efficiently and carry the illusion of being very cold to the touch. In fact, they can instantly draw the heat from an object or person and prolonged exposure to a heat absorbing Long can be damaging.

Earth

[Draconic Powers, Poison] Envenom- Earth-based long produce a very deadly venom and are the only Long with syringe like fangs. Their bite can kill even another dragon if untreated.

[Draconic Powers, Poison] Poison Spit- The entire mouth can produce poison that can be absorbed through the skin or other membranes. It is less potent but lasts long where as direct injection effects the target immediately.

Lightening/Wind

[Draconic Powers, Lightening] Lightening Breath - Lightening-based long can harness the power of electricity and expel a powerful blast from their mouths.

[Draconic Powers, Lightening] Shock- Much like an electric eel, a powerful electrical shock can be delivered via touch. The effects can be stunning, damaging, or lethal.

[Draconic Powers, Lightening] Static atmosphere- By exuding electrical energy from their bodies, these Long can create an atmosphere that increases the effectiveness of their lightening based attacks.

[Draconic Powers, Sound/Lightening] Thunder Clap- A skill not well understood but powerful as a distraction. These Long can generate a clap of thunder in their general vicinity that can temporarily deafen an opponent.
